Khre'Riov Gaalen closed his eyes. There was a relative
silence on the bridge … as none dared to speak louder and
break the General's thoughts. Gaalen's Warird was still
cloaked and watching the battle from a safe distance.
Gaalen felt that the victory is slipping from his hands as
he watched the battle. The original plan was good and
simple. His forces will crush the few unprepared Starfleet
vessels, seize the Starfleet Station, make it to 10th fleet
HQ and secure this sector. A large offensive was planned
just a few days after this battle … where hundreds of
Warbirds would storm Federation space, but they needed a
station within federation territory … and without that
station, an invasion would become far more difficult.
Cursing the Tal'shiar and their strong belief that the
Erassians would NOT aid the Federation, Gaalen had to admit
that he underestimated the power of Erassian alliance. The
alliance was thought to be a 3rd class power, equaling the
Cardassian Union and labeled as military unimportant. The
recent battle proved this assumption wrong … as it were
the Erassian 2nd fleet that turned the tide of the battle.
With their heavy weaponry, they've managed to wipe out a
third of Gaalen's forces within minutes of arrival in the
Aeran system. Luckily, Gaalen's reserves … 30 Warbirds
… slowed the Erassians down, forcing them taking a bit
more defensive tactics, but Gaalen knew that it was just a
matter of time when his forces will be repelled. Those
reserve Warbirds were expected to raid the sector and as
such … they were not equipped with the advanced tactical
weapons … just ordinary disruptors and torpedoes.
Another element was the stubbornness of humans. They're
just unable to take a defeat and fight back again and again
… Gaalen could not understand Commodore Guzman and his
last attempt to deal damage to Romulan fleet. He gathered
four ships (all were damaged to a certain degree), formed an
assault group and attacked the right flank. Their chances
were minimal … but they insisted to fight.
As some famous guys said : "The problem is choice" Human
just LOVED to have choice and until they had at least two
ways to go, it was impossible to foretell what path they
will take. But there was a certain pattern in the reaction
of human commanders … they rather scarified themselves
rather then face a bitter defeat and destruction.
Just a short time ago, Gaalen was informed that the Humans
were using some strange signals … light signals … to
communicate (and for a certain time the battle field looked
like a gigantic xmass tree ..) , but none of his encryption
specialist was able to understand the human code. This way,
there was no option how to sniff to the human communication
and the only signals they were receiving were orders from
Guzman … "FULL ATTACK!"
Gaalen was no Klingon warrior and he saw no use to die on
the battle field for honour or glory. He preferred to
survive and fight some other day. Deep in his heart he began
to realize that there was just one option for him left.
Erassians were pressing on his fleet, Guzman's little
force was stinging like a crazy bee … and Gaalen knew that
unless there will something unexpected happen … he will
soon ave to issue a certain order …
