[USS Chimera] SD 240812.19 || Engineering Inspection JL ||

[Main Engineering (Lower Level) - Deck 16 - USS Chimera-C]

Captain Rojac walked casually through the doors into the organized
chaos that was engineering. Officer's rushed to and fro form console
to console, and conduit to conduit; apparently oblivious to the sudden
appearance of the red collared commanding officer who had infiltrated
their hallowed territory. Rojac kept his demeanour stark and cold,
calmly taking in the readouts he observed on the screen all the while
listening to the steady thrum of the large warp engine in the rear of
the room. He walked up to it and rested his hands on the railing for a
closer inspection of the ships heart and sole.

Gustav was busy finalising the plans that Marine Captain Xerxes had
requested for the new EM launch systems in the hanger bays, it had
taken a few days to finish them mostly because of the experimental
system to boost there launch power by using the fighters warp cores,
for the details he needed to incorporate this he needed to go though
huge amounts of red tape and dace through more than a few hoops, no
official numbers or stats just detailed blueprints with all of the
warp systems not necessary for the hook up blanked out.

Gustav had just sent the plans away to Xerxes for her final approval
as well as the CEO Lt Commander Curtis Scardona when he noticed
Captain Rojac standing over a console seeing that no one else had
reacted to his presence Gustav yelled over the noise in engineering
"Captain on deck" at that everyone stopped what they were doing at if
it was possible they stood to attention.

Rojac quickly turned from the console in front of the warp core as
Kroitzer's announcement echoed throughout the cavernous room. Feeling
the eyes of all the engineers on deck; Rojac calmly stood erect, and
tugged at the bottom of his tunic to straighten it out. He snapped a
quick and broad salute, "As you were. Lieutenant Kroitzer, if you will
join me please."

"Aye sir" Gustav said while following the Captain.

Rojac stopped in front of a console detailing the antideuterium flow
into the intake valve. "I'm not familiar with this distribution
pattern in the antideuterium dispersion ratio. Does this improve the
reaction quality and boost efficiency?"

"Aye sir, it does" Gustav said always a little surprised when someone
other than an engineer notices small details like distribution
patters.

"Impressive calculations. Who's formula is this?" Rojac asked.

"They were Cmdr Julian Guilder's calculations Sir" Gustav answered,
elaborating further he added "she was a warp field specialist on loan
from Starbase Bragg R+D the algorithms are experimental and are meant
for the next generation of star ship but the commander thought this
would be a good test for them"

"And it appears it is." Rojac said. "Ah, look. Here comes the Commander now."

Curtis was monitoring the warp core's energy output when he heard
Kroitzer announce Rojac's presence. The rest of the team stood at
attention until the Captain waived them off. As he huddled with
Kroitzer, Curtis approached the two of them, ready to give a report to
Chimera's commanding officer.

"Sir, welcome to Main Engineering. I was just about to send you a
report on the transporter systems, but since you're here now, I may as
well just give you an update. We're almost finished with the
diagnostic, and they should be up and running in about six hours. As
for the rest of the ship...well, she's running like a dream,
sir...shockingly."

The fact that brand new ships left drydock full of bugs and system
errors was almost a universal constant. However, the Chimera was
running unusually well. If he didn't know better, he would've thought
that it had already been through a shakedown cruise already.

Gustav didn't know if Scardona knew that the main reason for there
being so few problems were because both Lt Reese and himself were sent
along to prepare the ship prior to her arrival at UNITY, so he thought
he might mention it to his CEO "well sir, that might have something to
do with Lt Reese and myself, we were sent ahead to get the ship up to
spec before her arrival at Starbase UNITY, we also spent some of the
journey time to UNITY fine tuning things".

"Well then, Lieutenant, will attribute the ease of this ship to you
and the Operations Chief's foresight." Rojac smiled. "Commander, good
work on the transporters, but I believe Commander Summers is under the
impression that you would be finished with them sooner. Please update
her as well so that she may reschedule her test of the system."

Scardona nodded, silently wondering how the Commander could have been misinformed over such a fact. He wasn't keeping the status of his repairs a secret, after all. He made a mental note to get to the bottom of that issue once things settled down.

"Warp output seems to be optimal gentlemen. How is the impulse drive
fairing?" Rojac asked as he strode over to the "workbench" in the
center of the main work area of the room.

Gustav stood on the other side of the work bench and brought up the
readouts for the impulse drive so they displayed on both sides of the
bench "the impulse drive is working at 97% efficiency…. well within
guidelines but I'm going to start work to get that higher if I can"
Gustav said he then turned to Lt Commander Scardona and asked "If you
will let me that is Sir" he knew Rick wouldn't have a problem with
Gustav going off and doing work on his own but he didn't know if his
new CEO would have a problem with it.

Curtis just nodded, both impressed and annoyed with his new deputy's eagerness. The man was certainly capable, but he still had a lot to learn and it appeared that he was having a slight issue with the chain of command. He would have to have a conversation with Kroitzer about that when the time arose.

"Very well." Rojac crossed his arms. "That gets manoeuvrability out of
the way. What about the deflector and the shield grid? How are those
performing, gentlemen?"

"Both operating at above stated peak efficiency Sir" Gustav said
proudly, the only concern he had was in his enthusiasm he was
answering all of the Captains questions before Scardona had a chance
to.

Having been cut off at the pass again, Scardona decided it would probably be best to have Kroitzer do something productive while he escorted the Captain on the rest of the inspection. However, with the Captain present, he didn't want to anything to embarrass Kroitzer. This would be a conversation for later.

"The deflector is operating at peak efficiency. However, I'm not satisfied with the shield grid. It's performing at acceptable levels, but there's a small power distrubution imbalance...an EPS issue. We're working on it."

"An EPS issue." Rojac nodded. "Perhaps we haven't worked out ALL those production kinks yet, Mr. Kroitzer. Commander, tell me about the cloaking system. Does the EPS distribution problem effect it as well?" He checked his chronometer. "the cloak test is scheduled thirty minutes from now, I want to know of potential problems beforehand."

Curtis brought up a detailed schematic of the EPS on the workbench. He ran a few scenarios through his head, then nodded, almost certain he would be able to bypass the offending EPS relay successfully before the test of the cloak.

"It shouldn't be an issue, sir. I'm going to have to take the faulty EPS relay off-line anyway, so power will be re-routed to an auxiliary system. The tests won't be affected."

"Very well. Keep me posted, Gentlemen." Rojac held his arms behind his back as he gazed at the warp engine once more. "This was most beneficial, but I can take the rest of it from here. As you were; I'm going to stroll around for a bit."

Curtis nodded his acknowledgment, and went over to his office to assign one of the techs to take charge and spearhead the resolution of the EPS issue.
