Rick had returned from his interrupted jog, just wanting to put the whole ordeal behind him.
It wasn't the fact that he had almost been annihilated by a large Klingon, or that he spent
the past 20 minutes explaining, and lying to security that he had knocked the Klingon out.
It was blacking out that concerned him. For a couple of minutes, he was out of it. He knew
more black outs would come. He didn't know how often he would have to deal with them.
That unsettled him more than anything.
'Maybe I shouldn't have returned,' he thought as he plopped down on the sofa just as Mai
entered the room from the bed room.
Mai was feeling a bit restless. She was really not having a good morning. She felt more
flushed than usual to the touch and hoped it was normal for pregnancy and hoped she just
wasn't catching a cold on top of it all. She thought maybe if she got up and walked are a
little bit she would feel less restless. MaiKai saw her husband laid out on the couch and
decided to join him. She sat on the sofa next to his side.

"Good morning," he reached over and kissed her. "Did you have a good night's sleep?"
"Good morning," she reached back over and kissed him. "Yeah, I slept fine," which was true
she did sleep alright.
she did sleep alright.
He stared at the wall at the far end of the room.
"I had my first black out," he said.
"And why weren't you home?" Mai said a little hurt. She just knew that if he was in their
quarters she could have helped him better being a doctor and all.

"I woke up early, went for jog," he explained. "Happened then."
He decided to keep the parts about the Klingon and female Katarian out, not wanting to
concern Mai anymore than she already seemed to be worried.
"Right. Of course it did," maybe Mai was speaking a bit too openly, but she figured he could
take since he is her husband after all.
"Chances are, it could happen when I work. Not always able to be home," he said, then
leaned against Mai. "I was OK. After couple minutes, I back to normal. As normal as I
can be now."
MaiKai just stared for a few moments blankly. "You do know blacks out can be different each
time, right? They're not always gonna take a few minutes to get over". After all this of being a
wife, a mother, and a former Chief Medical Officer, Mai still didn't think that people took her medical
advice seriously.

Rick nodded.
"I know. Even if Doctor Montalban say they be only few minutes, I not think he certain of
that. This new to him. This new to everyone."
He looked into her eyes. He loved her more than life itself. Thoughts of her was what inspired
him to recover as soon as he did. Even so, he felt as if she was more protective of him
because she was a doctor and knew more about medicine than most. She knew more
than anyone about what can go wrong in certain situations.
"Even so, what can I do? I engineer. That what I do. I also not able to have someone me
... with me all time. That not possible."
MaiKai knew her husband was right. She just didn't want him to be, "I know..." she snuggled
closer to him on the couch. She really just wanted to be held.

As he held his wife, he was somewhat grateful that Rachel was sleeping a little bit later than
usual. There were times when that child was their alarm clock.
"I know you worried, but I be OK," Rick tried to assure Mai, then grinned. "You just be OK.
From what I told, some of those kids can be hand full."
"Indeed they can be," Mai smiled as she curled up with her husband on their couch.
