T'Vel's last stop for the day was Pediatrics. It was one of the smaller units of the Infirmary, but it was doing well in the hands of MaiKai Rodgers. Being a mother undoubtedly gave the Lieutenant Commander an affinity with children that was needed when working with them. Although not too many children were on Unity, there was a sizeable population on the planet that made use of the advanced medical facilities of the Starbase.
Stepping inside the wing, T'Vel headed towards MaiKai's office at the end of the ward but found her instead next to a biobed talking with a child.
"Commander Rodgers," T'Vel greeted her with slight nod of her head. "I trust you are well today?"
"Alright, Johnny. That'll be all for the day. You may go back to your mother," Mai gave the young boy a few pats on his back and let him jump down from the biobed.

"I am thank you," Mai replied almost automatic. There really wasn't much thought to that reply. "May I be of some assistance?"
"I have come to see how your department is faring," T'Vel replied. "I do my rounds at the end of each shift in order to visit every department at least once per week. Today I have come to you. How are the children doing? Any difficult patients?"
Mai smiled wryly, "The children are doing quite well. Nothing I can't handle really".
"Human children are not often the easiest patients to deal with, I have found," T'Vel replied dryly.
MaiKai laughed. Having one of her own and having one of her patients already try and kick her she knew all too well. "That may be".

"Vulcan children are similarly difficult when they are at a very young age, before they learn the discipline of logic," T'Vel said in reply, then turned her attention back to the department. "Are you satisfied with the facilities, Commander?"
"Yes, I don't seen any reason to complain," Mai replied true to form. She found the facilities rather accessible.
"And the size of your ward? Do you feel you need more staff or more room to treat patients?"
"The size suits fine. I haven't run into anything problematic where I would need more staff or room to treat patients," Mai suddenly felt like she was being grilled for answers and ran her head across her forehead.

Satisfied, T'Vel nodded. There weren't many patients currently in MaiKai's department and things were going smoothly. "That will be all then, Dr Rodgers," T'Vel said. "I will leave you to your duties. Please let me know if there is anything that you require."
