As the Jameson towed the Detector back to the shipyard,
Rick remained on board the smaller vessel so that he could
work on the engines. He hoped to get the Detector running
under her own power before they were to transport the
shipyard back to Unity.
As Rick worked, he continued to think of Trevor Wright, who
continued assuming his role as the commanding officer of
the Jameson under the guise of Captain Grey Richards. Rick
didn't see a problem with Wright remaining in command for
the time being. The question now was what would Rick do
with this knowledge.
Obviously, he should report Wright. He should tell starfleet
that one of the most brilliant men in Federation was alive.
Wright wanted everyone to believe that he was dead, and
if it wasn't for their current situation, Rick would have no
problem continuing that ruse.
But with Wright assuming the identity of a starfleet officer,
that raised a few problems.
"Hey," Jo Weathersby said as she walkeed up to Rick,
carrying a couple of silver bags.
Rick glanced back at her, "Hey."
"Thought you could use a bite to eat," she said, handing
Rick one of the bags. "I don't know what it is, but I assume
it is edible."
Rick took the bag and looked in it.
"You not find it on this ship, did you?" he asked, taking a
seat on the deck.
"Oh heavens, no," she answered, opening her own bag and
sitting next to Rick. "It was brought over from the Qashqai."
"Oh, good," Rick said as he took a bite. "Tastes like really
bad chicken."
"At least you can taste yours," she smiled. "So, what's on
your mind?"
"Whaddya mean?"
"You were deep in thought when I walked in," she said. "It
seemed to be something pretty important."
"Just work," he said.
"I've never seen you that deep in thought when it comes to
work," she responded. "So, what's really on your mind?"
"Work," he said abruptly.
"Fine, don't tell me," she said. "Probably has something to do
with that device we found. I still don't know why you won't
tell me what it is. After all, I did get that friggin' door open."
"I let you know when I cleared to let you know. For now, it
best you not know."
'I wish I didn't,' he wanted to add, but left unsaid.
"Thanks," she said, almost pouting. "I want to know now
more than ever."
Rick just shook his head as he finished his meal before going
back to work.
