====== Shane's office, SB 234: UNITY

Sitting behind his desk, Shane was thinking about Admiral
LeGrand and his forces and about ways how to make the best
of it. It was clear that with alpha and beta fronts in
regular Starfleet hands, Task Force can concentrate on the
remaining two fronts (gamma, delta) and offer more battle
capacities when needed. Some of the task force units could
even return to 'normal' duties and missions not
involving the Romulans.
The door leading into his office hissed open and Shane's
aide – Lieutenant Pakosii entered the office.
"Sir, there is a problem that I think is my duty as your
aide to address" he stated.
Shane raised en eyebrow … custom that he learned long ago
from Lieutenant Oriana and said: "Go ahead, Lieutenant".
Pakosii nodded and said: "It's Lieutenant Colonel Vlimar
PontBrilland, sir, your deputy and XO. Yesterday you issued
orders to the Colonel regarding the Task Force, but
addressed it to Lieutenant Colonel DuPont"
"What?" Shane asked, "Who the hell is DuPont?"
Pakosii shrugged: "I don't know, sir. But there is no
officer with the name DuPont on the station or in 1st Task
Force. There are nine DuPonts in Starfleet, but none bears
the rank of Lieutenant Colonel …"
Shane sighed: "Ah well … must have made a mistake. I
should remember not to issue orders at 23:00 … but" he
looked at Pakosii, "what's so nig about such a simple
mistake that you came to me?"
Pakosii smiled: "You must know best, sir … since it's
the third time you used that name while addressing the
Colonel. The first time I thought it's a simple typo, the
second time it was an oral order so I might have heard
something wrong … but this time it's inside a written
order. I am sure Colonel PontBrilland won't like it …"
"Really?" Shane asked, "three times already?" He
remained silent for a moment, trying to link the name DuPont
with something else. "Ah, well … he said at last, I
really must remember the name of my XO, must I,
Lieutenant?" he asked.
Pakosii only smiled and remained silent.
"Well, thank you for letting me know about that
Lieutenant. Please slap me the next time I do this again and
I guess I have to apologize to DuPo … erm … PonBrillant
…."
