Mai woke up from her sound sleep.  It was just what she needed.  After all if the
new baby inside her wasn't making her upset to keep her awake, Rachel was
up and needed nurturing to get back to sleep.  Mai looked over to one side and
noticed the sheets were ruffled enough it look like Rick had came home.  Maybe
she was losing it.  She has been missing her husband a great deal.

She slowly made her way out of bed.  Mai was growing paranoid and wanted to
be cautious as to not make any mistakes.  She walked to the doorway and peered
back around the bedroom and couldn't seen anything.  She then stepped closer
back inside the bedroom.  She heard a sound like a muffled voice and turned
quickly around to one of the corners of the room.  What appeared to be Rick was
haunched over on the floor.

MaiKai moved quickly to his side and dropped to her knees.  She lifted Rick's chin
up and spoke to him, "Rick...Rick dear...Oh God... Rick... answer me, please?"
Being a doctor, Mai could tell that he was asleep however, it seemed that
physically his body seemed to be a bit shaken up and he looked pale.  Rick had
always said that's what MaiKai looked like when she would get her nightmares.
Rick slowly opened his eyes. He hadn't even remembered when he fell asleep.
His body was still trembling slightly, but not noticeable, and he had a mild headache.
He also felt a chill.

He looked at Mai.

'Wh ... what?"

"You tell me," Mai arched an eyebrow in questioning as she helped her husband sit
up some.

He vaguely remembered rolling out of bed and crawling to where he was sitting.

"I ... I not know. I gu ... guess I had a bad dream," Rick stuttered. "A really bad
dream from look of things."

"I guess so," Mai replied still a bit worried, but she backed up some so he could have
some space for a moment.

Rick pulled himself to his feet, but had to lean against the wall. He didn't want
to worry Mai, especially in her state, but he learned long ago that there were things
he couldn't keep from her.

"I OK, now. I just ... I not know what happened. I feel ... I feel terrible."

Mai had special medicine for her nightmares that she had to take especially after
having surgery from doctors finding a brain tumor.  She knew this wasn't Rick's case.
She figured it was just some horrible dream.  about what she didn't know, so what she
could offer him would be minimal.  "Well, I could give you something for your headache
from a hypospray..."

Rick didn't really think he needed any medication. He expected the headache to go
away on its own. Still ...

'What could it hurt,' he thought.

'OK," he said.

Mai left and returned with the medkit that she ALWAYS either a)carried around with
her or b) left in her quarters.

He took a seat on the edge of the bed, rubbing his weary face. When she returned, he
looked up at her.

"I never really told you what happened that day, did I?"

"Nope," Mai replied automatically.  They both knew which day he was talking about.
It really didn't need to be discussed further, but really it did.  MaiKai has always felt
as though there were too many things that Rick kept from her after all these years of
being together even though they haven't been married a year yet.  Mai set the medkit
on the bed to the side of Rick and started to open it up to extract the needed
instruments: one hypospray and the medicine which it would contain.

Rick paid little notice as Mai applied the hyopspray to Rick's neck. His thoughts were on
that nightmare and the memories it brought to the surface. Horrible memories.
Memories he had tried to forget.

"Someday I tell you," Rick said, looking down at the carpet on the floor. "I will tell you
everything. But I not able to now. It just too much for me to handle at this moment.
Let just say I remember everything that happened. Every terrible thing. More than
any person should have to remember."

MaiKai knew that what happened to him was paying a toll on him physically and mentally
so she didn't want to say what she first wanted to when he said "Someday I'll tell you"
which was: 'Don't bother'.  Instead all she could do was nod and pack the medkit back
up.  It was also important for her and the new baby that she didn't stress herself out
over every little thing if she could help it.  Mai was approaching three months into her
pregnancy and knew things were just beginning to change for her.

Rick stood, still trying to compose himself. He again tried to put up a mental dam on
the memories that continued to pour out at him. He felt a little dizzy, but was able to
regain his focus. He still felt like crap, but the medication was starting to take hold.

"I need to be at work by oh eight hundred," he said. "We launching first Lancer at ten,
so I need to make sure all OK."

Mai nodded as she took the medkit and placed it closer to her side of the be, but underneath.  She had a feeling she would need to start keeping this close-at-hand and well stocked up.

"I'll make us breakfast after I take quick shower," Rick said as he pulled off his T-shirt.

"Sounds great," Mai kissed her husband partially as a mean to show she wasn't upset or mad with him or anything.  He thought that a lot concerning her these days.  MaiKai was making all efforts to show that life hasn't changed that much.  They're still as consistent as what could be expected.

"By the way, I have regular appointment with Doctor Jacobs today. He may want to
talk to you afterwards."

Mai, again, just nodded.  There were days where she understood another doctor's perspective and then again, there were times where Mai thought she knew best for her and her family being a doctor as well.  Needing to be said that Mai didn't always look forward to a second opinion.  Think she sighs as at the thought of having "to go to the doctor's" as well as the next person.  Which reminded her that she has a check up for herself rapidly approaching.
