[USS Chimera] SD 240904.23 || V'Tar Offensive || Task Group Beta || Captain Tedros Chisulo ||

[V'Tar IV - V'Tar System]

The streaks of stars slammed into pinpoints as the USS Detector dropped out of warp, outside the asteroid belt between the gaseous V'Tar IV and the frigid iron ore wasteland of V'Tar III. It was a distance from the Romulan fleet at V'Tar II, where the Romulans had unleashed their deadly thalaron weapon on countless civilian lives, but it was the best point of entry if one desired stealth. The asteroids in the belt, though consisting largeley of silicate compounds, was heavily laden with sensor blocking bilitirum. The detector, and most of the fleet, could cloak well enough to avoid detection without the use of the asteroids - but the hert and blood of the operation, the carrier USS Hindenberg, was without such protection. It was much too large for any cloak to cover.

The blue lights stilled burned over CHisulo's command chair, signallign that the cloak was still operational. He turned to the sciece officer wearing a LtJG rank on his collar, "Give me a system scan, Lieutenant. Passive."

"Aye, sir." The thinly built, pale human responded. To Chisulo, he looked fresh out of the academy - and scared out of his wits. "I'm reading multiple warp signatures leading in and out of the area of V'Tar III. Scans are conclusive with Romulan singularity drives.  There's still residual levels of thalaron radiation - but nothing the defelctors can't handle." He paused for a moment. "Wait - I'm also picking up something rahter strange: tachyon emmissions. In very high levels."

"Incoming hail." The tactical officer called from his station starboard of the helm console. "Captain Daniels of the Yamato."

"On screen." Chisulo replied smoothly.

The grey-haired visage of Captain Daniels appeared on the screen, the vivid scar along the side of his face showingly prominently under his bridge lights. "Are you reading what we're getting, Captain Chisulo?"

"Yes, Captain Daniels."

"It's reminds me of a dmaned Cardassian trick they used during the Dominion War. They'd set up tachyon emitters to disrupt warp travel within a sector to prevent the enemy from advancing too far."

The science officer spoke up. "Reading would concur with that theory, sir. Our warp bubble would collapse as soon as we passed V'Tar III."

"Can you pinpoint it's origin?" Chisulo asked.

"It may take a while. Two hours at least." The wiry lieutenant responded.

"Wherever it is," Daniels said, "there has to be a guard nearby, to control the emitter for their own warp tranist if for anything else."

"Which means if we're going to send in fighters, we need to have that emitter down so that we can back them up." Chisulo said quietly. "Daniels, signal the Hindenberg and have her set up inside the belt. You'll be her escort."

"Aye sir." Daniels nodded, and ended the transmission.

"Signal the Darkstrom, have her travel to V'Tar III and search for that emitter. Tell Vrashnel not to engage, recon only."

"Aye sir." The operations officer replied. "Transmitting now."

Chisulo stood. "I'll be in the Ready Room, Lieutenant Jackson," he turned to the intelligence officer at the situation table near the rear of the bridge - the same Jackson with him at Narendra, "you have the bridge."

"Aye sir." Jackson replied in his thick lousianan accent. "I'll keep ya' posted, sir."
