[USS Chimera] SD240910.15 Joint Duty Log - CMO/COps Cmdr/MCapt Rangi Summers and Jade Reese - "Compelling Results"

*** CMO's Office * Main Hospital * SB Unity ***

Rangi was standing in front of the replicator waiting for her raspberry and apple juice to materialise when she heard someone arrive at the open door of her office. Turning around she saw it was the young woman she had expected and smiled in greeting. " Captain Reese, please come in...sit down won't you? Would like something?" she added indicating the replicator which had now provided her request.

Jade walked into the main hospital after recieving a message from the CMO. "Hello again Cmdr Summers summoned me." Jade said to the receptionist. The receptionist nodded and allowed Jade to head back to her office and walked in, "um some water would be nice." Jade said smiling as she took a seat.

Rangi made a second request and waited again for just a few seconds until a second glass appeared then carried them both over to her desk and placed one down in front of Jade. "Thankyou for coming." she said " I have a question for you." She sat down on her chair, easing it nearer to her desk." Have you made any major alterations in engineering recently?" she asked.

Thinking Jade shook her head, "non that I'm aware of." Jade said picking up the glass of water and taking a sip of it, "but Lt Kroitzer may have. Why?" Jade asked wondering if it had anything to do with them trying to figure out how this happened.

"Mmmmm..." Rangi said and frowned a little. " Well...It's long been known that certain rhythms can have effects on the brain, quite profound effects sometimes. For example, a steady rhythmic drum beat continued at precise intervals was used by some 'mystics' to achieve a trance like state. It was no coincidence ofcourse although they didnt know it, but a four and a half second beat  corresponds with the four and half second cycle of Theta waves. If the effect is synchronised it can lead to a highly relaxed state. Its the same as when you fall asleep and when you wake. At both times you might be aware of experiencing a sort of twilight sleep when you are neither fully alert or fully asleep. When in that state its possible to be more receptive to information and yet find it difficult to recall when fully awake.  Dr T'vel explained Theta waves to you so I understand. so you might be interested to see this." She handed a padd to Jade already displaying a complex chart. "Thats your latest scan superimposed on the one from two weeks ago."

Nodding and looking at the chart she could tell that the theta waves were higher then two weeks ago, "so well these waves continue to increase?" Jade asked not so much worried just curious at what it all meant.

"In all probability yes." Rangi replied. She took a sip from her glass as Jade continued to look at the padd before laying it down on the desk. "Its likely, that something has caused this to happen to you and because you're one of those people with a higher suseptibilty then Dr T'Vel and I suspect that this is whats caused your condition. The problem now is to find out where a four and a half second pulse is coming from. Engineering seemed the best bet but you say theres nothing new?"

"Well we did make a adjustment to the manuvering thrusters just after the last mission, but I can access some of Chimera's reports and see if there was any adjustments made by engineering." Jade said looking at the Commander.

"Would you please?" Rangi said, seizing on the chance." Simply because you spent so much time there, it seems the most likely answer. If not, then we will have to work out an alternative and with Chimera away...well....." She looked at Jade with a hopeful expression "...it would take a while to go through the ship."

"It would but all modifications must be listed and signed off even if it was after the modifications were made." Jade said knowing that it would be in a report somewhere it was just tracking down which report. "It might take me a couple of days just with the sheer amount of reports that there was from the last mission." Jade said.

"Perhaps someone else could help?" Rangi suggested.

"Actually someone can help I have a TA for a course that the Admiral would like me to teach he could scour them while I taught." Jade decided knowing that not exactly what TA had in mind but it would help her out.

"Excellent." Rangi replied, looking and sounding pleased. "In the meantime we will refine the results and between us we 'should' be able to solve the puzzle."

"Alright I'll be contact with you in few days or once I found what we're looking for." Jade said smiling and standing up and recycling her glass and the water that was left in it.
