"Just give us another couple minutes, Dick, and you'll get what you need. Spiers, out!"
Tossing the handheld back to his sergeant the Captain turned back towards his men, who were attempted to force their way through another choke point in the corridor. Green disrupter blasts had already begun to super-heat the wall of the corridor behind the marines of Second Platoon. His men were pressed up against the walls on either side of the corridor, hunched down using a half-closed blast door for protection. Beyond they could see the massive chamber holding the installations power generator.
"Johnson, get up here!" he called back, quickly seeing the platoon's demolitions tech run forward.
"Sir!"
Pointing in between the blast doors he motioned, "Photon charges! Now!"
"Copy," the dark-skinned man replied, pulling his back off his shoulders. From within he produced two palm-sized orbs which, after activation, shown a blue light from within. He stood back up and pulled back his arm, before swinging around and tossing the grenades into the room. "Fire in the hole!"
As the marines in the corridor turned their faces to their respective walls to shield from any debris, the charges exploded in a gaseous ball of flame. Bits and pieces pinged from the combat helmets of the soldiers of Easy Company.
"Now!" Spiers called out, rising to his feet. "I want that room!"
Smoke plumed across the ceiling as they all stood up and made a break through the doors, their rifles raised and emitting azure-tinted blasts. As they entered the room they noticed that most of the Romulans who had been protecting the entrance had been neutralized by the charges. Those further back had been pushed to the ground, but with a few well-aimed shots they too were dispatched.
The chamber itself was three levels in height, with Easy emerging on the top level. There were a number of Romulans on the far side of the walkway surrounding this level, as well as many more on the lower levels attempting to defend their positions from below. It was obvious that reaching the lower levels to casually discontinue the energy flow was going to be nigh impossible in this situation.
Giving out a shrill whistle, he motioned for Johnson to join him once more, "How many charges are left?"
Ducking to avoid the fire, the sergeant checked his satchel and replied, "Looks like I've got four left, sir. What do you need done?"
Keeping his head low, the Captain ran over several scenarios in his head before he held out his hand, "Give me the bag, Sergeant."
"Sir?"
"I said give me the bag!" The younger man finally handed over the satchel, though the look on his face was obviously confused. "Easy! We're going to have about fifteen seconds to backtrack through this tunnel! I want you all heading that way as soon as I give the word! Oorah?"
"Oorah!" came the chorus in reply.
Standing up, Spiers reached in and pulled a single charge from the satchel. After setting the timer for a twenty second delay he activated and took off towards the railing, "Covering fire, Marines!"
Crimson bolts surrounded him, sending the Romulans across the way diving for cover as he ran towards the railing that dropped down to the lower levels. With a heave he tossed the satchel, containing the activated charge and all three of the dormant ones, over to let them fall below.
The Captain's foot skidded on the decking as he turned to run back towards the entry way, "Now, Marines! Move your asses! Move! Move!"
In moments everyone was on their feet, double quick-timing it back through the pitted corridors through which they had fought their way in. They made it past one turn and another.
Spiers felt the pressure of the explosion first, followed by the deafening explosion.
