Two figures were seated in at the far end of Rangis
office on the pale green sofas placed there for the purpose
of comfort in lengthy meetings.
Three padds lay on the table between them, two were med
padds and one bore the mark of a classified document.
Rangi had requested the meeting with T'Vel and had made it
clear to the yeoman outside that she was not to be
disturbed.
"So we have a conundrum. " Rangi was saying, watching the
Vulcan woman opposite to her. " Two Nicholas Harkers and but
one Samantha Palmer."
T'Vel raised an eyebrow and picked up one of the padds,
looking at the information on it. "This report is from Dr
Carpenter, dated SD 240602.24, containing Palmer's time of
death and a pre-autopsy examination. The findings in it
match the body you brought back from Padassa. It seems
therefore logical that it is the same person. As for the two
bodies of Nicolas Harker, I am uncertain."
" I'm 99.9 percent certain that they are the same person but
from differing times." Rangi replied. " Given that one was
in stasis for a while, doesnt account for cell
degeneration .Major Kinns report was very thorough on that."
"It is entirely possible," T'Vel replied.
"It is clear they
are not clones, and neither are they identical twins; they
do not exhibit the same cell degeneration rate.
Another possibility is that one of them is from an alternate
universe. The only way to confirm that would be a quantum
frequency scan. If the quantum vibrational frequency does
not match that of our universe, then we will know he is from
an alternate universe."
"I'd like you to carry that out as soon as possible." Rangi
said. " We need to get to the bottom of this without delay.
"Of course, Commander," T'Vel replied. "I will make it a
priority."
" Thankyou." Rangi said. She paused for a moment then added:
"I've also initiated a blood screening programme."
T'Vel nodded. "The results will indicate any other anomalies
we might have missed."
Rangi sighed and leaned back against the sofa cushions.
" I dont know." she said with a shake of her head. " I
sometimes feel we take three steps forward and two back.
This place is supposed to have the best security going and
yet I find that apart from a chameloid living here for
however long it was,the Admiral has been poisoned and now we
have Romulans wandering around with undetectable bombs."
"It appears that we have underestimated the Romulans," T'Vel
replied. "I am no strategist, but their tactics seem to have
become highly aggressive, much more so than in the past.
Perhaps it is understandable considering that we are at war,
but they have never before gone to such lengths."
" It might be good to think its desperation." Rangi replied
"...but somehow I dont think so."
She looked at T'Vels inscrutable expression.
