Athena waited until the XO's door slid open and then she entered. She
came to a stop just inside the door putting her hands behind her back
making the lines of her uniform seem to loose any of the wrinkles that
they had acquired during the day thus far. {Hope this goes better
than Cortez's eval; although hunting down your next victim is never a
good way to start... but XOs had a tendency to be busy.} "I thought
it might help if I came to your for your psychological evaluation,
sir."

"It's Major not Sir. Come in and take a seat Commander" Scott said
not looking up from the padd he was reading on the preparations from
each department. He had yet to see a few reports from a couple of
departments...although how much pressure to put on? "So Commander,
here to make sure I don't stick two pencils up my nose, a pair of
underpants on my head and say 'wibble'?"

"Nope, just that you don't do so in public," Athena quipped without thinking.

"Good to know. Just let me finish this one..." Scott replied.

"Let me know when you're ready to begin and I'll let you look at my
ink spots," she continued even though she didn't even bring a padd
with her.

"That may not go so well. The last shrink who asked me what I saw
didn't like it when I told him I saw an idiot holding a piece of card
with an oil stain. Given your connection with General Ivanov I would
assume the same answer would somewhat diminish my life expectancy."
Scott put the padd down. "Ok fire away Commander."

Pretending to put something on his desk for him to look at Athena
asked with a serious expression, "And what do you see in this
picture?" {He'll either play along and tell me who knows what or
he'll think I'm insane.}

"The answer to the meaning of life...apparently it's bagels and cream
cheese. Either that or it could be getting close to lunchtime who
knows how the subconscious works, eh?" Scott replied. "Tell me
Commander, how many members of this crew would follow an order to do
nothing if by acting they could save a life?"

Athena smiled at his witty answer as she took in his questions. She
contemplated several answer silently as she watched him watch her.
"The subconscious works... oddly." She unconsciously rubbed the band
of her ring with her thumb, "Why not do both?" {With this crew that
is what is most likely to happen.}

"The circumstances of a war rarely permit both to happen. I ran into
the same situation during the Solrin War. My facility was below the
surface of Charos VI and when the surface was hit with the bio-genetic
plague I had a choice to make. I could either open the seals on the
facility and allow my staff to help as many people as they could,
which would cause them to be infected or I could leave the seals
intact and leave those outside to certain death. I chose the latter
and the sight and sound of those scared people banging on the doors of
the facility will haunt me till the day I die. I may not like the
decision I made but I know I was right, does this crew have the
strength to do the same?" Scott said fixing his eyes upon hers.

"Yes," she sighed, "But don't be surprised if they try for both until
they realize the optimum solution." {Tough, firm... perhaps a bit
guilty.}

"That's what I was afraid of. Starfleet's going to lose a lot of
people during this war. A lot more than it has to. I only hope
they're strong enough to reap what they sow. Being the monster isn't
as bad as being the defeated victim, until that is realised then many
people will die." Scott said bluntly.

"I hope your monsterously surprised," Athena replied. "I think I
have what I need is there anything else that you require?"

"Fair warning of when they come to arrest me?" Scott asked quizzically.

"That seems a fair enough request," Athena quipped with a smile before
turning to leave.
