Walking back into the infirmary which felt like the thousandth time that Jade has step foot in it she really didn't mind mainly because they finally figured out what was going on with her headaches. But today was a little different instead of tests to figure out what was wrong with her she was going to find out ways to help her control this new found ability she knew that it wasn't going to be easy but it was better then taking medications to help control it. Stepping off the turoblift Jade entered the infirmary and smiled at the nurse working the front desk by this point Jade knew most of the front office staff.
"Morning I have an appointment with LtCmdr T'Vel." Jade said noticing that the waiting room looked a little bit different she couldn't really put her finger on what was different but something was definitely different. While Jade waited for the nurse to check for the appointment she quietly drummed her fingers on the desk continuing to keep a smile on her face.
"Just a moment, please," the trainee nurse who was filling in at the reception desk replied. She checked through the appointment list and said, "Here it is. Please sit down, the doctor will be with you shortly."
Once the appointment was confirmed Jade walked over to one of the chairs and took a seat and picked up one of the PADDs to look through some of the magazines to pass the time while she waited to be introduced to this new doctor. She was about half way through an article when the nurse walked up and informed her that the doctor was ready to see her.
"Captain Reese," T'Vel greeted Jade as she stepped into her consultation room. "Welcome. I am Doctor T'Vel."
"Your telepathic abilities have recently increased and I understand you require assistance in managing them?" the Vulcan doctor asked.
"Yes I do from my understanding and what the doctors have told me because my brain can't understand what's going on it turned all the voices into white noise and that's why I've been having head aches." Jade said taking a seat across the desk where the doctor was sitting.
"Indeed," T'Vel replied. "I believe it is simply a matter of training your mind to understand what it is experiencing, to recognise what it is receiving and then to block it out. There is a technique on Vulcan used for children who are too receptive to telepathic communication that I believe could be beneficial to you, if you want to consider trying it."
"It would involve a mind meld," T'Vel answered simply. "It would be invasive at first, but I assure you I will respect your private thoughts. I will simply use the connection to help you learn to develop a telepathic block."
"Is it painful?" Jade asked hearing about the mind melds but nothing super concrete she had heard rumors that sometime they could be painful but that was mainly because either person had some traumatic stuff going on and those emotions transferred from that person to the other.
"It is unlikely the manner in which we will proceed will be painful to you," T'Vel said. "If you are ready to proceed we can begin."
"Please sit down on the mat," T'Vel indicated a soft, comfortable square mat on the floor a few steps away.
After Jade had sat down, T'Vel seated herself on her knees in front of the half-El Aurian. She looked directly into Jade's eye and reached up her right hands, placing her fingers on the key nerve points. Then she closed her eyes and said, "My mind to your mind... I will project a vivid thought into your mind. Focus on it and concentrate on blocking it until it disappears."
When T'Vel entered Jade's mind it didn't hurt if just felt weird like there was a secondary conciseness in her mind but it wasn't like the white noise it was more directed. Jade didn't nod or say anything not wanting to disturb her she then waited for the vivid thought after a few minuets a thought popped into her head assuming that must be the vivid thought that T'Vel was going to put into her mind. It took a few minuets but she was able to block it for a little bit but then she felt completely exhausted and she was unable to continue to block it.
Sensing Jade was tired, T'Vel broke off the mind meld. "Perhaps we should end here for today. You have made some progress, now you must just continue to exercise it. Soon you will be able to easily block thoughts from your mind."
Nodding Jade felt exhausted but excited that she had made progress, "I think that would be for the best." Taking a few deep breaths in she was still getting used to the idea of having someone else in her mind. "I just want to thank you for seeing me and helping me deal with this new ability." Jade said smiling.
"It is simply my duty," T'Vel replied with typical Vulcan sentiment... or lack thereof. "I advise you to make an appointment with Commander Summers again. Good day, Captain Reese."
