[USS Chimera] SD 240903.06 || JL || Commo Guzman & Capt Rojac ||

[Commodore's Office - SB 234: UNITY]

Captain Cropa rojac sat in the waiting area in front of
Pakosii's desk. The Commodore had requested a meeting, and
he quickly obliged. Rojac had a lot of respect for his
former Captain, and didn't mind waiting a few moments to see
him. What he did mind was his shoulder. During his sparring
match with Lt Rayna the previous day it appeared he had
sprained his deltoid. His right shoulder was quite sore and
made him wince if he moved it to quickly. He hoped the
Commodore wouldn't notice. He was writing down a note to
make an appointment with Dr. Rice when the Commodore's aide
spoke up from behind the desk.

Busy with million and one thing, Shane just finished a long
talk with the head of Special forces Intelligence (SSFI).
Lernen's death was the main point … or more the
intelligence vacuum left on the UNITY and 1TF after his
death. At last, both man agreed that a small group of SSFI
operatives and analyst would help the situation
considerably. Logistic was still an issue as Shane was not
told when to expect those agents .. but 'soon'.
It was some 10 minutes ago since Pakosii signaled that Rojac
was there to see him and once the communication to SB Bragg
was over, Shane pressed the button saying "I am free".
"Captain Rojac" Pakosii said finally, "the Commodore
is now expecting you. Please proceed".

"Thank you, Lieutenant." Rojac replied, nodding and standing
up before making his way past the guards into the office
beyond them. He smiled and snapped a brief salute as he
entered the room. "Commodore, Captain Rojac reporting."
Shane smiled at his former Chief Tactical Officer. Long time
passed since Cropa was a young Lieutenant behind the
tactical console just waiting for his Captain to give the
order to fire. At some point Cropa left the Chimera to
assume a XO position on an another ship, but eventually
returned back to Chimera as XO and later CO.
"Welcome, Captain" Shane said and offered a seat to
Chimera's CO. "I am glad that my favorite ship is safe
and sound back. Anything to drink?"

"Black coffee if you have it, sir." The Captain replied.
Placing the requested drink in front of Rojac, Shane walked
over to his end of the desk and seated himself as well.
"So, tell me please how does the Chimera-C feels like?"
Shane started.

Rojac put the mug down to his lap after taking the first
sip. "She's magnificent. Almost reminiscent of the 'A'. She
agile, quick and she packs a mean punch." He smiled. "i
think she'll serve the fleet quite nicely."

Nodding, Shane said: "Let's hope you keep your ship in
one piece far longer then any of Chimera's CO ever
managed. I've heard some rumors from SSF Command that IF
they should give us an ANOTHER Chimera within this decade,
someone's head would be attached to the main deflector"

Rojac laughed. "Whether it mine or yours, I determined not
to let that happen, sir."

"OK, lets get back to your mission" Shane said looking
at Cropa, "I understand that you've met a strong Romulan
resistance with advanced weapons and tactics and believe
that all our sensor network along the neutral zone is
compromised … "

Rojac put his coffee on the edge of the desk as he got down
to discussing business. "Aye, sir. We ran into two warbirds
initially. They were new scout designs with better
acceleration and mobility. They had an interesting hull
plating leading from the engineering hull to the nacelles
that I have a feeling has to do more than aesthetics.
Captain Xerxes' fighters engaged a new fighter class as
well, designed for capital ship destruction. The cruisers we
engaged after the intial wave weren't all that different
than intelligence already suggested, only with a newer class
of disruptors. I understand Commander Terek ahs already
begun studying their effects on Federation hull
compositions."

Shane nodded: "For decades Starfleet command considers the
apparent lack of new ship's design in Romulan Empire.
You've been a tactical officer yourself, so I don't have
to explain you that the ROmulans have just a few ship's
classes and maintain using them for long years, but in the
last 20 years, we've seen a huge improvement here. What
began with the Reman Scimitar design … seems to go on more
rapidly. I wonder if the Romulans have foreign help in their
ship designing centers. But what about the sensor network,
Captain? Is it really compromised?"

"Yes. I do believe they have compromised the sensor
network." Rojac nodded. "And I concur with Captain Xerxes'
assumption that they were waiting to ambush a federation
vessel with their new fighter wings. They weren't prepared
for a new century class and her fighter wing though. I only
think the Hindenburg could have performed better."

"Damn" Shane said, "that means that we have to
relocate all of our listening posts within several sectors.
That's a bad news and I am sure that Starfleet Command
won't like it."

"We could have the Outpost commander exploy the on-board
thrusters for redeployment of the grid." Rojac suggested.

Nodding Shane said: "At least we learn about it now and
not when it's too late. Romulans were always excellent in
ways of deception and intelligence and unfortunately SFI
can't keep the pace with Tal'Shiar."

Rojac agreed. "Romulus allotts a significant amount of their
military budget to the Tal'Shiar, an amount I'm afraid the
Federation will never ideologically suport."

"Hmmm …" Shane said slowly, "so what about the
fighters? You say that they helped a lot in the battle?"

"They did, sir." Rojac nodded. "I think the Chimera would
have been in quite a dire circumstance without them."

"Then I do not understand your reservations regarding
Xerxes' suggestion to emply more fighters within SSF and
Starfleet as a whole …"

"My only reservation is with the current state of the
majority of starfleets fighter squadrons." Rojac replied.
"Valkyries are no match in a dogfight with a Romulan
Scorpion. The Scorpions have better maneuverability, speed,
and firepower. And the Warhammer assault ships are too bulky
and slow to be effective against some of the new romulan
designs." Rojac crossed his arms in front of his chest. "In
order to compete in that theatre, I believe we need to
update our fighters across the fleet. We need to roll the
Lancers out into mass production to replace the Valkyries
and we need to update the Warhammer design. Otherwise, our
squadrons are going to get massacred in the battlefield."

"That's a good point" Shane replied. "Warhammers are
good for troop transport or attacking capital ship, but sure
not suitable for dog fights. Valkyres really need an
replacement, but the problem is that it would take up to a
few years to replace them all. Maybe we will have to start
in a smaller scale … lets say 1TF and see about the
results. We shall see."

"Certainly with Commander Ohmsford's shipyard project we can begin addressing the situation soon." Rojac said.

"Well, Captain, you did very well on your mission …
again. Your next mission should be of a more enjoyable kind
… two weeks of R&R on the UNITY. Since Admiral LaGrand's
forces eased the pressure on the Task Force, there will be
another 10 ships stationed for R&R here, so there will be
plenty opportunities to learn someone new. Security is
somewhat an issue lately, so please ask your crew to be at
least not absolutely careless while on board the station.

"I will make note of that, sir." Rojac nodded.

"We shall have a few more meetings during your R&R, but
besides them, I'd like your crew and you enjoy the free
time. To be absolutely clear, Captain … that's an
order"

Rojac smirked from behind his beard. "I'll go find a jacuzzi somewhere to read my reports then."

"All right then" Shane said with a laugh, "if there is
nothing else, then I see you on the 1st meeting in 72 hours.
You are dismissed."

USS Chimera NCC96899-C

[USS Chimera] SD 240903.06 || Narendra Mission || JL || Capt Chisulo & Amb Ayanami ||

[Narendra Station - in orbit of Narendra IV - Klingon Territory]

The intensity of the piercing shriek died down suddenly, and the vision returned to Chisulo's eyes. His head pounded, he could feel the throbbing in his temples and the pressure behind his eyes. His head was cloudy and his vision blurry - which was why he didn't quite believe what he was seeing as he slowly picked his face off the metal grating of the command center's deck plating.
He saw the back on the white robed alien standing defiantly before an angelic figure brightly aglow with her wings spread wide. Had the gods come to save me? He thought to himself. But then he recognized the face: Ambassador Ayanami.

"Thought you guys could use a little help but now I found me a whole barrel of fun."  Alecto unleashed a wave of illusions at the creature probing it for weaknesses that she could exploit.

A whispering voice permeated through to the Ambassador's mind, it was low and raspy - like a gust of wind through the reeds. {{I have not sensed your kind before, hybrid. You are an interesting species.}} If the creature had a mouth, it probably would have a devious toothy grin. Instead it's sunken and dark eyes squinted at the hybrid ambassador as if sizing her up. {{Talented, yes. But young and naive. Nothing a few more centuries couldn't fix.}}

{{I'm a weapon developed for destruction.  Longevity isn't exactly in the game plan.  As Hybrids we only do three things.  We Live, We Fight, We Die.}} Alecto sent back to the creature calmly whilst building her power for one decisive attack.
{{And yet…}} It's eyes closed briefly before flashing open once more, {{you are an ambassador for your state?}} It opened its arms wide. {{How intriguing.}}

Suddenly, a console was ripped off the floor sending sparks across the metal grating as it was tossed in Alecto's direction.

Alecto jumped up and kicked the console back towards the white robed alien.  {{You think cheap parlor tricks can stop a Hybrid Assassin?}}

The creature held up a bony hand, halting the progress of the hulking device in mid-air before tossing it into the view-screen along the far wall. {{Why fight, Ambassador? Our quarrel is not with your kind. We seek retribution only against the Federation.}}

{{And why do you seek retribution against the Federation?  They are for the most part dominated by sycophantic politicians and hopeless idealists.}}  Alecto stood her ground.

Chisulo managed to make the crawl over to Faulkner's body undetected. He reached down and checked the officer's pulse – there was none. He closed his eyes briefly before grabbing his comrade's combat kit and picked up his phaser rifle. He crawled away from the corpse of his fallen comrade, and took cover behind a console where he checked the power cell on the rifle. It was down to one third.

Alecto noticed the movement and increased the telepathic focus on the alien.  She reached down and grasped the hilt of her katana.  {{Then I guess it was you who is responsible for the death of Harbright.  I can't say I liked him but he was useful.}}  Alecto garnered all of her mental energy and at the moment she unsheathed the first few inches of her katana she unleashed it like the waters of a breached dam cascading relentlessly downstream.  The attack would not stop the alien but it would focus all it's attention for just long enough.

The creature fortified itself against the sudden onslaught forming a barrier of blue between itself and the hybrid assassin. The barrier did not cover its back, where Chisulo's phaser rifle - set to heavy stun - found it's mark. The robed creature crumpled to the floor. Chisulo stood to his full height and slowluy approached the fallen figure, his muzzle ever facing the quarry.

Alecto resheathed her katana and said loudly to Chisulo "Well not to spoil the victory celebration but heavy reinforcements are inbound with orders to shut this station down permanently.  We've got less than four minutes to be elsewhere so let's get moving."

Chisulo cast a sullen glance back toward Faulkner's fallen form. Then he turned back to Alecto. "Carry this one, I'm taking my comrade back with us."

"You do realise you Federation bastards are too soft to make any real sacrifices.  Life to you is merely a token in a game but to us it is a bullet in russian roulette..  Still I'm not one to argue with sentimental bastards..." Alecto said as she picked up Faulkner.

"I'm not leaving him behind, Ambassador." Chisulo grunted as he hoisted the limp body of the alien onto his shoulders. He moved toward the doorway. "According to my contact, a pathway to the General's vessel should be through his office over there. They should have it ready by now."

"Naturally and the word is that of those who are undying to the Federation cause...no offense but once our cargo is safely stowed I want to return to my own fighter"  Alecto said as she carried the burden of Faulkner the the Federation's alternative transport.

Chisulo cast the woman a strange glance as the door to the office opened. "After you."

[USS Chimera] SD: 240903.05 Joint NPC Log Constantine Gambaretti & Rowan Campbell

=/\= Campbell's Home =/\=
Upon entering the unlocked house Rowan's mother was found in bed.  Her breathing was shallow and labored, while her skin held a bluish tint.  Her body temperature was elevated; making her coloration all the more odd.  In listening to Lissa's lungs; the doctor commented on how filled they seemed.

Rowan sat on a bucket outside the front door of her home.  She looked up when Constantine walked out the door.  "Is momma ... still in bed?"

"Yeah kiddo, she's just sleeping at the moment and the medic's looking after her.  It's likely they'll move her to the station for a little while and you'll come along as well.  I guess Joe can show you a few more Lassie movies whilst you're there."  Con said as he ruffled her hair.

"Will you watch them too," she asked.

"...Well when I'm not out on patrol I guess I could partake"  Con answered in a non-committal fashion.

"If I find you more treasure, will you watch movies with me and eat hot dogs and popcorn?"

"Listen Rowan you don't need to bribe me, I'll be there as long as I'm needed.  I can watch films and get you popcorn and hot dogs too provided you avoid puking over Nerso's shoes too often.  However if you're daddy hid more disks like the one you gave me earlier, it's important if we are to be able to help your daddy escape from the people who took him."  Con looked down at her seriously.

She looked at her shoes and kicked her heel against the bucket she was sitting on.  "Well... they looked for Daddy's treasures before... but I'm better at hiding them ... then he was."

Rowan's use of the word was to describe her father was a true indication of truly how long her father had been gone and that Rowan had heard some of things the men, who had been searching for her father's treasures, said.  She hopped of the bucket and took off running toward a field of sheep.   As she reached the sheep they started to scatter but the dog that had been placidly sitting watching the sheep, sprung into action and kept them all together.

"Guess Lassie really does watch the sheep here."  Con said absent mindedly really wondering what Rurick had found that would make him worthy of abduction.

Rowan crested a small hill and tripped rolling down the other side, coming to a stop when she hit a small outcropping of rock.  Pretty soon she was bent down in front of the rocks as if she were praying to some alter.  All to quickly though half of her body disappeared from view..

"What the?"  Con started towards Rowna's position and saw she was worming her way down what looked like an oversized rabbit hole.  He reached in and tried to grab her before she went too far.

When she felt the warm hand enclose around her ankle, she became perfectly still, extremely unusual for a child of her age.  Nervously she asked, "Con?"

"Of course it's Con, who else would it be?"  He replied.

With his answer her little body relaxed and she relied, "Almost got it."

"How much deeper is it?"  He asked reluctant to let go of her, lest she get stuck underground.

"Just a little," she grunted and kicked her little feet until she'd wiggled from his grasp.  With only the tips of her shoes showing, she yelled, "Got it," and started to wiggle her body out backwards.

Con felt Rowan worming her way back up the tunnel and when he had a decent grip on her foot he pulled her up the tunnel to the surface.

She flipped onto her back and smiled up at Con, "That was fun."  In her hand she held some kind of foreign sash and wrapped in it was a map and another couple of small disks.

Con raised an eyebrow  "Really?  I've never been that big a fan of going caving."

With an excited gleam in her eye, she held the items out to Con, "Now we can watch movies!!"

Con examined the disks and if the data was anything like what he had seen on the first disk it could prove crucial to shutting down Orion Syndicate operations in this entire sector.  "For this I'll be more than glad to watch movies with hot dogs and popcorn."  Truth be told he would be willing to walk through barbed wire for this information.

Mnemosyme stood near what should be the front in her dress uniform.  Her hair was braided as usual the blonde streak almost looking like a ribbon running through the rest of her dark auburn hair.  As Attention was called, she put the imaginary starch in her spine and faced forward.  The at ease command allowed her to stand a little more comfortably.

She listened as Vlimar began his speech with why they were all there and became more in tune with the timber of his voice rather than what was being said.  {I like...}  her calm and thoughts were broken with the resonance of her name.  She snapped back to attention and made her way to  the spot indicated.  Nym might have been embarrassed by the platitudes but she just kept thinking {I was only doing my job.}

Her marine training kept her perfectly still even as his knuckles brushed against her breast as he pinned the medal where it belonged.  Vlimar smiled and saluted and Nym barely had a chance to return both the smile and the salute before deck attention was called again and Vlimar left.  With the colonel's departure, she began to receive many congratulations.  She finally agreed to meet with a small group of marines that she had worked with before for drinks in celebration.

[USS Chimera] SD 240903.05 || JL || Capt Rojac (CO) & LtJG Kroitzer (DCEO) ||

=/\= Turbolift 1 =/\=

Gustav was standing in the Turbolift on his way to the bridge for a meeting with the Captain, he didn't know what the Captain wanted and it didn't matter, if the Captain calls you go, he didn't think it would be anything bad after the awards ceremony.

Once the lift stopped Gustav left and headed for Rojac's ready room, as he got to the door he tapped the panel next to it to notify that someone was waiting outside the door.

Rojac beckoned at the sound of the chime and motioned to the seat across from the wooden desk. "Have a seat, Lieutenant. Thank you for replying to my request so expediently."

"Any time sir" Gustav replied

"How is your arm performing?"

Gustav thought about his answer a little then said, "very well sir… after some slight mods that is".

"Yes." Rojac brought a hand to his beard and rubbed at it slightly. "I thought it odd that you ordered such an outdated prosthetic design, Lieutenant. Especially when I heard from the counsellors that you were making improvements to it. Why didn't you go for the newer nanite based models?" He asked. He knew the answer, but he wanted to see how easily Kroitzer would divulge the information to him.

"It wouldn't have worked sir, my body and nanites don't mix," he explained knowing that his CO probably already knew about his medical history after Rangi had made him reveal it.

Rojac nodded. "It's an interesting and horrible thing what that damned company did to you, Kroitzer. I'm glad you have risen above it. You have remarkable abilities as an officer and Engineer, Lieutenant. However, that is not the purpose of this meeting." Rojac leaned forward and crossed his arms atop the desk. "Lieutenant, you papers for promotion came across this desk earlier in the week, and I did not sign them. I thought it only fair to explain to you why."

With a look of concern on his face Gustav asked "Why?"

"In the accident where you lost your arm, you were the superior officer in charge of the installation of the EM Launchers. Therefore breaches in safety protocols and on-the-job incidents go on your supervisory record. Now, I understand that the event was more than likely unforeseeable, it's unfortunate. However, with that big a mark on your record I can not afford to promote you at this time."

There was a moment of silence between the two men.

"I still don't quite get it sir, I sent in a report that stated that the accident was completely unforeseeable and that all safety protocols had been followed which computer logs back up, so with all due respect sir am I getting this 'black mark,'" Gustav said while trying to keep his emotions in check.

Rojac leaned back in his chair, quite surprised at the sudden rant from the deputy engineer. "Because I don't think you are ready for it, Mr. Kroitzer. The computer controller that you designed couldn't take the amount of power that you were feeding into the launcher and it overloaded. You designed it, Mr. Kroitzer. Besides, you've been part time for much of the last few months while first your domestic partner was injured, and then while you were recovering. As Deputy Chief Engineer, other Assistant Engineers had to step in and fill your place." Rojac paused for a moment, sensing the tension in the room. "You need more time, Lieutenant, and that's my decision."

Gustav knew that the Captains decision was final and most of his points were valid although he was misinformed about the controller, it could take the power plus some more if need be, it was the main processor was faulty and that's what caused the accident.

Knowing he wouldn't win the argument Gustav backed down "Very well sir, I apologise for my outburst, it's just been… tough over the past few weeks" adding with a renewed drive "but I guarantee you that you won't hesitate to sign the promotion papers next time."

Rojac gave a weak smile. "I hope so, Lieutenant. We have much work to do. Please see to it that the environmental control section is repaired and ready within the week. I don't want to ship out with our air conditioning not working. Not in these tight quarters." He turned his desktop diosplay back on and pulled a report closer to him. "You are dismissed."

supplies. "Ma'am." A Ensign said, "all materials are unloaded and we
just need you to sign off on the transfer orders." The Ensign said
handing her a PADD that she needed to sign.

Signing it, "thank you Ensign for your quick response and movement of
the materials." Verna said handing the PADD back to the young Ensign
and then following him down to the cargo bay floor. Verna had five
specialists, 4 technicians, and six Corporals that handle the weaponry
and the specialists and technicians that handle everything else.

"Cpl Jurez make sure the weapons and other equipment get to the armory
right away and make sure you get a signature this time." Verna said
glaring at the Corporal. The Corporal saluted and waved over the six
other corporals to grab the other crates most of the crates were
updated handheld phasers and the others were repair kits.

"You four technicians deliver the medical supplies and see if the
medical staff needs help unloading it and make sure you get a
signature from the CMO or DCMO." Verna said. "Specialist deliver the
misc. materials to these locations on the ship." Verna said handing it
to a specialist, "if there is a department get a signature from their
department head or deputy department head and if it's not to a
department take a picture of it and put it in your report." Verna said
heading to the exit of the cargo bay and back to her office to finish
up some minor paper work most of it dealing with the debris.

Once in her office she sent her report stating all supplies have
unloaded and being disrupted to the proper departments and should be
done by the end of the day. She also received a report notifying that
the debris was transferred over to UNITY successfully Verna forwarded
the message to Jade knowing that she might want to contact the
stations science and ops to get a report after they're done examining
the debris. With all of that done she closed down her computer and
turned off the lights calling it a day.

Jade left her office planning on taking the day off, but the work load
was piling up and with receiving the promotion and awards she felt she
needed to take some of her work with her. But she figured if she took
her work outside of her office or quarters it would count as shore
leave and a day off. "Vargas I'm going to be on UNITY if anything
comes up call me and Vaughn will be in charge while I'm gone." Jade
said a little bit more uplifted.

"Alright and oh congratulations on the promotion and awards." Vargas
said smiling, "and please don't tell me you're brining work with you."
Vargas said knowing Jade to well.

"Well with the promotion I have more responsibilities and we've a lot
of work to do before we head out again. Plus I'm going to be out of
the office so it really doesn't count as work." Jade said with a grin.

"Alright have a good day." Vargas said grinning back he then got back
to working on the schedule which is becoming tricky because of the
lack of experience NCO's and experience officers compared to the
experiences ones.

Walking out of the ODCC Jade headed for the UNITY to have day off/work
it took her about fifteen minuets to get onto UNITY and another ten
minuets ti find a cafe that she thought she would like to sit down and
have a nice cup of coffee with a snack and start reading through
reports and start working on some things. She may even stop by and
speak with the operations crew on UNITY and see what they found on the
debris from the outpost.

The first thing she started with was reading reports from the last 48
hours she'd gotten behind durning the battle and then dealing with the
more pressing things like the debris and what they found on it. Most
of the reports were basic mainly showing the power distribution
through out the ship which still needed to be tweaked and it would
probably still take a few months to work out all the kinks.

After finishing reading the reports Jade thought about what Dexter
said about the fresh NCO's that are now serving in operations and how
they're brand new knowing the very basics. The problem is when would
they be able to run a class or a training on the more complicated
systems that the Chimera has. To be honest Jade was still learning and
reading up on all the new things that has come out to help out
operations with what they do.

She figured that even a few hours a day in a class room would do some
of the younger officers and NCO's good, but the trouble was finding
the officers that could teach the courses. Jade would work this out
some more on Chimera she wanted to take a look at everything that was
semi-neglected durning and after the battle. Mainly he wanted to read
the report on how the repairs and re-look at the point defense network
was going. Looking down at her watch she decided that she spent enough
time out of the office.

=Rick and Mai's Quarters=
=Starbase Unity=

The moment Rick arrived home, he expected Rachel to
come running out to meet him. Or perhaps Mai hadn't
gone to work, yet. Instead, he was greeted to a empty
room.

'Perhaps this isn't as bad thing,' he thought as he tossed
his bag off to the side and plopped down onto the couch.

The Detector had arrived at Unity ahead of the others.
Rick knew that he would have to get back to work soon,
but decided to take a quick break beforehand. Maybe
even a relaxing shower.

Still, he was starting to feel lonely without Mai or Rachel
around. So, he asked the computer to their whereabouts.

'They're probably having breakfast,' he thought, feeling a
little hungry himself.

The reports, the Detector and the shipyard could wait, he
decided as he pulled himself off the couch and walked out
of their quarters.

Moments later, he found Mai and Rachel sitting at a table
in one of the starbase's many establishments. He walked
up to the table.

"How my three favorite people in whole galaxy doing?" he
smiled, catching his wife and daughter by surprise.

Mai was in the middle of trying to finish what was left on her
plate when she heard an all too familiar voice and saw Rachel
leaping from her chair yelling, "Daddy! Daddy's home!"  Mai
stood up the best she could and was grinning from ear to ear
and could've have cried at that moment as Rachel jumped into
Rick's arms.

"I glad to see you, too, Ray," Rick said, hugging his daughter,
not caring that others were watching the scene.

As Rick held Rachel, he used his free left hand and held Mai's
right shoulder gently, giving her a kiss.

"I also very glad to see you," Rick said after he finished the
kiss.

"Mmmm... You better be," Mai responded with a smile.

"How you two hold up while I gone?" Rick asked as he let
Rachel down to return to her chair.

"Everything is going along fine. Just have missed you very
much," Mai replied true enough.

"I miss you too," Rick said as they all sat down at the table.
He laid his hand on Mai's stomach. "And how is the little one?"

Mai smiled at Rick's acknowledgement to the one on the way,
"Doing very well.  It's been really overwhelming lately for me
since you've been busy, though.  I haven't had much help".
Mai wasn't trying to make Rick feel guilty, just trying to state
the facts of their status.  She hoped that her stress level wasn't
reaching a level where it was affecting the baby.  She would
soon find out for she has an appointment coming up.

"I know I been busy since I get ... got back to Unity, but I plan
on spending more time with you," Rick said. "In fact, I have
couple days off coming to me. We could go somewhere or just
spend time together here."

Rachel chimed in, "Yay! Vaycayten!"

"Maybe," Mai chided the child.  She didn't care if they even
stayed on base she just wanted some alone time with her family
and more help.  Mai's biggest realization that she has made thus
far is that she can't do everything on her own anymore and that
scares her when Rick isn't around.

"For now, I hungry," Rick said. "What's good to eat?"

"Pancakes," Rachel said.

"With chocolate chips?" Rick added with a grin.

"Uh, huh," she nodded with her mouth full, finishing her own stack.

"Then pancakes it is," Rick said.

=Captain's Ready Room=
=U.S.S. Jameson=

As soon as the Jameson, Qashqai and Raptor returned to Unity with
the shipyard, Rick beamed aboard the SCE vessel and made his way
to the bridge. He was informed that the man formerly known as
Captain Grey Richards was in the ready room waiting for Rick.

When Rick entered, he saw Trevor Wright sitting, more like leaning
back  at his desk in the darken room with some form of music Rick
had never heard before playing softly in the background. Rick found
the harmony strange.

"Commander," Wright said with his eyes closed, obviously enjoying
the music as his head swayed with the rhythm.

"Sir," Rick said, respecting the man, even though Wright was not
a captain or even a starfleet officer.

"Do you like Tholian music, commander?" Wright asked.

"Is that what that is?" Rick thought out loud. "This is first time I ever
heard it."

"Few have," Wright finally opened his eyes. "Computer, pause music."

The room became silent, with the exception the usual sounds heard on
a starship.

"I discovered it about 30 years ago. I found it very relaxing," Wright
continued, then looked up at Rick. "I needed relaxation. I had to
many ideas on my mind. Too many theories. Too many projects.
After awhile, it just became too much to deal with."

Rick took a seat in a chair in front of the desk.

"Is that why you fake your death?" Rick asked.

"For the most part," Wright admitted. "I got burnt out. I became
my work. That's all I had and it was consuming me. But I couldn't stop.
I was so damn addicted. I had these ideas that I needed to expand on.
Too many ideas."

Wright rubbed his forehead just beneath his white hair.

"I was still working on projects for starfleet, but most of the time,
I was doing it for myself," Wright added. "And I couldn't stop. So
I needed not only to disappear, but to become someone else. When
Grey Richards died, it was just so easy to become him. Like me, he
didn't have family and few people really knew him."

Wright placed his hands on the desk and looked away from Rick.

"I really liked being him," Wright nodded. "And being him kept me
busy. Too busy to let my mind wonder to my old life ... my old
work. I was content."

"You can't hide who you are," Rick said.

Wright sharply looked at Rick.

"Don't tell me what I can or can't do. I was making vast improvements
to transporter technology and tinkering with transwarp drives when
your father was still sucking his thumb in his crib. Maybe even before
that."

"I not telling you what you can do," Rick said. "I just saying you are
who you are. You can't deny it."

Wright rubbed his head again.

"I apologize, commander. I didn't mean to snap at you like that," Wright
said.

"Not necessary," Rick responded.

"So what happens now?" Wright asked.

"I suppose that up to Commodore Guzman to decide," Rick said,
not knowing of recent developments. "Though in end, I suppose
starfleet and federation authorities will have final say."

Wright nodded as he and Rick both stood.

"I suppose I should hand over command to the XO," Wright said.
"I'll then place myself under arrest for impersonating a starfleet
officer. After that ..."

Wright walked around the desk, shaking Rick's hand before heading
toward the exit.

"Commander?" Wright said with his back to Rick.

"Sir?"

"Do you have a family?"

"Yes. A wife and daughter and another child on the way."

"Good. Then maybe you won't burn yourself out like I did."

Wright headed on out to the bridge, while Rick remained behind for
a few minutes longer.

"Computer ... resume music."

-=-/-\-=- Starbase Unity -=-/-\-=-

Lieutenant Junior Grade Nanee Quiocho arrived not too awful long ago and was working on finding her accommodations for rest and relaxation aboard the Starbase Unity before she was to board the first star ship she's ever been on and ever had to work on, the USS Chimera.  The good news was that with her experience and work back on Earth and the fact that a family member was a former Chief Medical Officer on the USS Chimera, Nanee felt like she already kind of had her foot in the door.  Once on the Chimera Nanee would work in the Main Sickbay as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.

Nanee had been following the directions that a nice security officer had given her, but now she deviated first to fulfill a personal mission of her own.  Lieutenant Commander MaiKai Rodgers is Nanee's cousin who had previously worked on the USS Chimera and before the Chimera, the USS Aurora.  Knowing all this about her cousin along with finding out she married an engineer one Commander Rick Rodgers was sufficient information to learn of Mai's current whereabouts.  Nanee found out that she was currently stationed on this starbase in the Sickbay as the head of Pediatrics doctor.  Nanee figured this occupation change was due to her rumored about niece that she had yet to meet along with he brother-in-law.  The Quiocho family was broken and has had great affect on Nanee and Mai with Mai taking it the hardest.  Mai's father use to be abusive to her mother and both of Mai's parents, Nanee's aunt and uncle, had sabotaged a transporter that Mai was once on in the past to stop her from attending the Academy.  This affected Nanee in the way that she was neglected contact from her cousin which hit hard to the heart since they use to be the best of friends, like sisters even since Mai only had two brothers.  You couldn't sever the two from each other in childhood and even through adolescence.

She approached what came to be Mai and Rick's joint quarters.  It said their names on a plate outside of the door.  Nanee was too nervous and afraid to ring the chime.  Nanee wasn't even sure what she would do or what words she would say if someone did answered.  She wasn't even sure if anyone was home, so instead she left evidence that she had been there for Mai to find.  Previously, Nanee had written a note on a blank card with a large, white flower from their homeland attached to it.  The note had read "It's time to make things work.  I miss you too much and the pain is unbearable.  Lets start with us. I'll be on the Chimera.  Love, Nanee".  She hoped Mai wouldn't take it in a wrong tense like she usually tends to do as she laid the note up against the door with her shaking hands.  She shed a tear before she picked up her luggage and continued her way to find her temporary quarters.

Athena stood looking at people scattering one direction or another.  There seemed to be a bit of hysteria among some of the civilians, but Athena blocked that out not needing to add those concerns to her own.  Spotting Anya not far away, Athena made her way towards the other woman and called to her, "Anya!"

Anya looked around to see who was calling her name and saw Athena walking towards her.  "Wow you must be feeling better...you know my name and you're walking towards me and not backing away.

"I seem to remember you suggestion a place that I should visit....." Athena fell quiet for a couple of moments before continuing, "but I don't think I was at my best at the time... could you remind me what you had suggested again ...... if you recall the conversation?"

"Probably unfortunately I do remember the conversation.  It was when I told you about my intentions of going to Trill to see my erstwhile grandmother.  You warned me to becareful to which I responded that I was by taking along a certain Hybrid Ambassador.  At that point I suggested that as Vik would be preoccupied killing the pointy ears that you should go ingratiate yourself with the Hybrid Court as if you and Vik are eventually going to be married you would need them on side.  Plus I think you need to at least know his daughter a bit more than you currently do as unpleasant a task as that may be."  Anya said but tailed off on the last sentence.

"It doesn't sound unpleasant.... I think its a capital idea.  I should arrange it for this R&R. Don't you think so?"    {I need to talk to Vik.  It should be easier to get a message to him when I'm with Susan..... and I really do need to spend more time with her.}

"Well the sooner the better I would guess."  Anya answered but gave some deeper thought as to what she thought might aid the situation.

She looked down at the ring on her hand briefly.  {When did I realize that Vik gave me the ring.......}  She touched her hair self consciously.  {..... the lift.}

"Listen if I can advise anything in this at all, it is simply this.  Be honest and be genuine.  You're a decent person and you deserve happiness don't screw it all up by lying to provide what you think they want to hear."

"Ummm... thanks... I think Like I'm not nervous at all now... and by the way I don't ever make a habit of lying."  Athena looked up as if she were checking a mental list, "Guess I should check with the CO."

Anya shook her head "Look I'm not accusing you of being a habitual liar or anything like that it's the stuff that comes out naturally that I'm talking about. If you're pissed of in front of a Hybrid and you say you're fine then to them as they can see right through you lose credibility."

"Ok... just says what's on my mind," she responded thinking {And to Hell with diplomacy... well maybe that's not such a bad idea .... sometimes it can be very overrated.}

"I don't need to remind you to be respectful to the Hybrid Royal Court but remember and do the same for Susan she may look like a seven year old but that's not what she is inside.  Don't patronise her and don't fall for any act that she's naive."  Anya said warningly.

Athena nodded her understanding even though her mind was on several other things.

Paul Howorth <palsh963@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

= Somewhere on Unity =

Rick had just finished up breakfast with Mai and Rachel and was going
to wait for the shipyard to arrive when he saw a familiar face walking
nearby. He hadn't seen his former deputy since ... well, since before
his ordeal with Hoack months ago.

"Gustav!" Rick yelled out, hoping to catch the engineer's attention
before he got lost among the large crowd of people just up ahead.

Gustav was walking along the main promenade of Unity when he heard his
name getting yelled out, almost instantly he turned wondering where he
heard the call from, then he saw a face that he didn't expect to see
again but was glad he did.

With a smile on his face Gustav approached Rick, when he got to where
his former CEO was he put out his hand and said "No one told me you
were up and about again, when did this happen?"

"A few weeks ago. They figure out what wrong up here," Rick said,
pointing to his head. "They also figure out way to fix it. Though
there some minor problems."

Rick and Gustav began walking in no particular direction.

"So, how new Chimera working out?" he asked, eager to change the subject.

"Excellent for the most part, we've been working non stop to try and
get her fully kitted out" Gustav said still knowing there was more to
do, not to mention the battle damage that she had suffered.

"I sure she in good hands," Rick said, feeling a little nostalgic for
full-time starship duty, and even more so being a chief engineer of a
starship.

Gustav smiled and said "thanks, but it's kind of good hand at the moment".

They stopped walking and Rick stared at Gustav.

"Good hand," Rick was a bit puzzled. "What do you mean?"

"I had a bit of an accident, my right arm is now a prostetic" he explained.

"Oh. I not know about that. I am truly sorry to hear about it. How did
it happen?" Rick asked.

"I was overseeing the installation of new EM launchers for the new
fighters, there was a problem with one of the controllers processors
was faulty, I was starting to fix it, when there was a serge of power
that triggered the launcher and tried to send me into space" he
explained.

"That is terrible, but at least you still alive," Rick said. "I know of
engineers who lost their lives in such situations."

Gustav never really thought of how lucky he was until then, he didn't
die and had some of the best docs in Starfleet looking after him as
well as Mimi, who Gustav considered his only family.

"We ought to get together later when I have more time," Rick said. "I
sure there is a lot to catch up on that happened over past months."

"Your right, you could also tell me about some of the upgrades to the
station, that is the ones I'm cleared to know about" Gustav said
always wanting to know how people overcame obstacles and new
engineering techniques.

Rick nodded before walking off to help see to the arrival of the
shipyard.

Gustav also headed off to the shop he was going to before meeting Rick.

=/\= Main airlock – Chimera – C =/\=

Gustav was waiting at the main airlock between the Chimera and Unity
for Mimi, they had arranged their shifts so that most of RnR could be
spent together.

The two of them for tonight had arranged to go out to one of the
nicest restaurants on Unity but there schedules didn't quite meld
together this night so Gustav arrived at the airlock first, he was
just bout to tap on his comms badge to find out if Mimi was OK when he
saw here come down the corridor.

It was bad enough that Mimi got off today later than Gustav, but when
she got back to their quarters and looked at the closet there didn't
seem to be a thing that he hadn't seen two or three times already.
She tried on and discarded a black, a purple, and a blue dress.
Finally at the back of the closet she found an emerald coloured green
dress that she had almost forgotten about.  The strapless sheath fit
like a fine leather glove even if the dress itself was silk.  It felt
cool and almost erotic as it rubbed against her skin as she walked
towards Gustav.

Gustav couldn't help but stare at Mimi open mouthed when he saw here,
this was by far the best looking dress he had ever seen her wear and
couldn't help but get a little jealous as well as proud at the looks
she was getting from the male as well as some female crew members.

When she reached Gustav he held Mimi around her slim waist and kissed
her passionately breaking the kiss only to tell her "you look
stunning".

She smiled at him brightly glad that he appreciated the extra effort
she went to.  She really hadn't noticed anyone else as she made her
way to his side but gave him a thorough once over before declaring,
"You're looking pretty good yourself."  With a couple sway of her hips
and a wink she said, "Let's get going... shall we?"

"What ever milady wants" was Gustav's only reply.

After a small walk they had reached there planned destination but
Gustav had a little surprise for Mimi "I've changed the plans for
tonight… I hope you don't mind"

Mimi turned into him with a slightly surprised expression as Gustav
almost always worked the plan he had once he had one.  "No, I don't
mind," she responded encouragingly and gave his cheek a peck

"Well I know how your taste in food is a little hmm… all over the
place, so I found somewhere that will cook what ever you want, also
they have dancing… I've practiced"

Her eyes lit up with her approval even as she said, "You didn't have
to practice.... I've always liked your dancing."

Gustav Replied, "I know, I just didn't want to embarrass you".

"You never have," she said as he took her hand and led the way to the
new location.

After a few meters from the original planned restaurant they arrived
at 'What You Want' a classy high priced eatery that guaranties to be
able to make what you want what ever race you were, "we're here dear"
Gustav said to Mimi.

She put her arms around his neck, kissed him on the lips and said,
"You're the best."

"I know" he replied, "Shall we go in then".

She nodded and let him lead the way.  {Maybe I shouldn't feed his ego but....}

After talking to the restaurants host and confirming their
reservations both Gustav and Mimi were shown to their seats, a two
seated table right next to a viewing port that showed a spectacular
view of the planet below.

Mimi felt like a kid at the circus as she tried to take in everything
all at once.  As they waited for the waiter to arrive, she took in how
the potted palms seemed to make each table its own secluded island and
the view of the planet released a feeling of calm with its shades of
blues and greens

"There's no menu here Love just order what you want and they make it"
Gustav explained.

Gustav's words let her know that the waiter had arrived and was
waiting.  She looked around for the menu and then his words sank in
and slowly she started with, "French onion soup, umm... Teriyaki
chicken with grilled pineapple rings, a loaded baked potato and
broccoli salad.   Oh... and a peach margarita?"

Gustav chuckled at Mimi's choice, he had never quite appreciated her
eclectic taste in food until now.

"Excuse me ... do you need to know about desserts now... or is later
fine," she questioned shyly as a blush crept up her cheeks with the
knowledge that she was indulging in all her favourites.

When the waiter asked what Gustav would be having he said, "I'll have
some Klingon blood soup to start with then for my main course I will
have a sirloin beef steak cooked rare please".

"Could you order some vegetables before they start thinking you're a
vampire?"  {They'll be thinking he's a vampire and I'm... the fat lady
in a thin person costume.}

"It's not really blood, it's just the colour, the soup is more like a
spicy tomato," he explained, the he turned to the waiter just before
he left and asked for some fired mushrooms and onions with the steak.

Not long after the first waiter left another came over but this time
he was only taking the drinks order, with Mimi already ordering her
drink when the first waiter took the order only Gustav ordered "I'll
have a cold German lager please… nothing to gassy".

Mimi watched as the second waiter moved away and then asked, "So how
about we try out those new dance moves while we wait for our food...
and you can tell me how your appointment with Athena went."

"If you want" Gustav said while getting up and taking Mimi's hand and
leading her the dance floor, once there he put his arm round her waist
and started dancing a slow intimate waltz.

She put her head on his shoulder, pressing her body even closer to his
as he made them glide across the floor.  Before asking, "How did your
appointment go," she placed a couple of kisses on his neck.

"Well, she said I was fit for duty, in fact I think her exact words
were that I'm not going to the 'loony bin today'" he replied before
kissing the top of her head.

She smiled against his neck and said, "Sounds like her ... I'm glad it
went well."

As the dance came to an end there order came out so the both of them
went to take their seat again.

"How's your meal" Gustav asked hoping it was as good as his blood soup.

"Excellent" she said with a smile.

"Mines good as well" he replied.

They chatted companionably as they ate comment on each new dish as it was tried.

After the meeting with the Quartermaster Jade walked onto
the bridge and over to main ops where Dexter was, "Lt
how's the work progressing on the power outputs of the
point defense program on the phaser arrays?" Jade said.

Dexter sighed: "Not very well, ma'am. We've discovered some
weak spots in the algorithm and now are trying to get around
them. But I think we shall deal with the program within 4
hours" he replied and rubbed his tired eyes.

Nodding, "alright good work look forward to reading your
report." Jade said glad they were able to figure out the
issues with the defense program.

Nodding, Dexter replied: "Thank you, ma'am. A friend in
Engineering mentioned that they are going to install a
dedicated computer core for this program, is that true?"

"Um yea I believe they're working on it right now." Jade
said, "Anything else that I need to know?" Jade asked
knowing while meeting with other people allows some stuff to
happen without her knowing.

Dexter shook his head: "Nothing major, ma'am. Just the
usual problems with a new ship just after the shake-down
cruise". Dexter has been already three times on a ship
from her very beginning and knew what to expect. Chimera-C
was no exception.

Jade nodded, "understood if you don't mind could you send me
that report to my office and I can get some teams to work on
them" Jade said nodding to a few officers as they walked by
and onto the turbolift.

"It's just that there was no time to optimize power
distribution pathways and we get frequently requests about
having too less or too much energy for certain systems.
Lavatory, showers, replicators for internal furniture, gyms
and leisure rooms … you know that trade, they have
'problems to raise the temperature' or 'moisture
level' and such"

"Alright I'll have Vaughn take a look at that and also have
some small teams go to each department to get some more
information about the power distribution and then I'll work
on a plan to try and resolve it before our next mission."
Jade said glad that the shakedown mission was short with a
minor confrontation.

"Any worries about the new personnel we received when we
left UNITY?" Jade asking not been able to speak to every ops
personnel and he was hoping that Dexter or the other senior
officers in ops have.

"Well … when you mention it, there really is a problem
with some of the new crew. I know that it is war and
personnel is needed everywhere, but a lot of the new NCOs
are just 18 years old chaps and gals fresh out the boot camp
… having little to none experience with certain systems.
Sure, they know the basics, but not all those advanced
setting. That alone is no big problem … but when they
start 'exploring the possibilities' …

"We may need to start a training course or class room
teachings to teach these new NCO's." Jade said thinking
that's going to be her secondary goal is to get these
younger recruits up to speed on the programs and things they
can do and cannot do. "Thank you Lt once you're done with
your shift I want you on shore leave you've deserved it."
Jade said smiling.

Dexter smiled back: "Thank you, ma'am" he replied. It
was quite a new feeling that his superiors were pleased with
his performance.

Shane had an headache. Quite a bad one. The last several
days were quite a nightmare and it almost seemed that
whatever gods existed in this part of universe … all were
laughing at him.

There were a lot of things that happened and none of them
was good. Explosions and murders, problems @ the promenade,
disturbing reports from the Chim and Qashqai and even an
Admiral on Shane's tail … all that was almost too much
for the ex-TAC officer. {Maybe I should just shoot and ask
later?} he thought.

Finally … Chimera retuned from her mission and Shane was
both happy and worried about that. Happy that his former
crew survived a dangerous mission once again and that his
beloved Rangi returned safe and sound. She will assume her
position of UNITY's CMO and TF's medical advisor
immediately. He was worried about the Romulans and the
extension of damage they managed to deal to Starfleet's
sensor network along the borders. ROjac wrote several long
reports about that and Shane already asked Pakosii to
arrange a meeting with Chimera's CO.

The debris of the destroyed outpost was about to be
transferred to UNITY for careful examination and Shane saw
that UNITY's operation is about to take care of that.
Terek was already eager to get his teams into the work.

A small grin on his face was the result of rather selfish
thought that it was not him only who would not remember
names or designations. It was Rojac too who had made this
mistake … while addressing the UNITY as SB 243.

Another disturbing news was the report from MCaptain Xerxes,
Chimera's Flight ops CO. Anya reported about Romulans
employing advanced tactical techniques … a trait that was
quite new to romulan Warfare. Till now, Romulans relied more
on the surprise element and once engaged in a fight … then
on brute force. Tactics was not often used and if this
should change, Romulans will become even more formidable
enemies.

Another of Xerxe's points was the suggestion to employ far
more fighters in Special Forces and Starfleet. She gave her
reasons and supported her ideas with several facts from the
last Chimera's battle against Romulan forces.

Shane had to chuckle. He knew that several high ranking
Admirals in Starfleet Command were quite against the usage
of fighters – saying that there were no fighters needed
for Captains like Archer, Kirk or Picard … so why use them
now? But Shane knew better … since he had a small fighter
wing on (his) Chimera as well. He forwarded Xerxe's report
to Captain Chisulo and asked for his opinion. Another
question went towards Chimera's CO and the last one to
Commander Ohmsford. Shane was half ready to forward the
suggestion to SSF Command, but wanted to hear another
opinion first. Sure, Rojac already submitted his comments
(rather negative), but it was a matter for further
discussion.

Then there was still the mystery of Commander Harbright's
death. There was not much of evidence left, besides the dead
body and a medical report from UNITY's ACMO – MCpt.
T'Vel. Since the Klingon Envoy refused to hand his aide
into Starfleet custody, Shane could do little to prevent the
murder from leaving the UNITY. Per official channels, he
pended for an extraditions procedure. In the meantime, Shane
charged Major Giellera Kinn with Lernen's duties.

Adding pain to injury … there was a huge explosion on the
UNITY recently and his XO was currently in the sickbay.
Shane knew little about the whereabouts of the explosion or
DuPon ::slaps:: … PontBrillant's involvement. He asked
medical to inform his as soon as possible.

Again, there were good and bad news regarding the ship yard
mission from Commander Ohmsford. He returned a few hours ago
and as Pakosii referred immediately, he wanted to speak with
him. Unfortunately, Shane was kept busy with Admiral LaGrand
and only now found the time for this Science & Engineering
Advisor. He asked his aide to locate Ohmsford and ask him to
come to his office immediately.

There was a lot of what to discuss regarding the shipyard
and all the disturbing news in Bren's report. Explosion of
(possible) romulan or breen origin, beacon transmitting
encrypted messages and even a salvaged (almost) defiant
class experinetal ship …

All Shane wanted was to go down to sickbay and see Rangi
after such a long time. But there was so much to do … that
he will be happy to see her tomorrow …

[USS Chimera] SD 240903.03 || JL || Capt Rojac (CO) & Lt Rayna (Conn) ||

[Holosuite 1 – Deck 2 – USS Chimera NCC96899-C]

A thunderous clap echoed through the wooden floor as the traditionally garbed klingon form slammed heavily on its back. The warrior quickly recovered, rolling over and jumping to his feet, his gi exposing his chest as he circling the thin human once again. The bearded, rather thin human had a surprising quickness about him. His movements were agile, well-timed, and extremely precise. The warrior could tell that he was outmatched in skill, but that the peta'q would be no match in terms of power. The Klingon charged once more.

Rojac anticipated the move. These holo-programs were becoming too predictable. Rojac quickly side-stepped to avert the full force of the blow as the klingon lowered his shoulders to drive into the captain's midsection. He turned slightly, and pressed down hard at the top of the klingon's spine. The large humanoid toppled, scrambling as he fell to the floor below. The program let loose a bellow as he reached out and grabbed hold of Rojac's ankle, forcing the Captain to fall into a mount position. This position placed the stronger klingon at an advantage, Rojac could no longer rely on his maneuverability to outdo his opponent. Brute strength could win out on the ground.

Rojac let loose a flurry of elbows and fists to the ridges atop the warrior's nose. The klingon swatted several away, giving Rojac the edge he was looking for. If given too much time, the klingon could easily overpower the smaller human. Rojac grabbed hold of the wrist and pulled the klingon's arm up and away, pivoting it in its socket as Rojac shifted position. Rojac maneuvered the klingon into an arm-bar, and had the program's arm poised to snap in two.

The klingon tapped furiously onto the mat with his free hand. Rojac released and sat up, panting slightly until he heard a clapping sound behind him.

He turned toward the sound of the applause. Dressed in a martial arts uniform of her own was Lieutenant Rayna Dior, the brunette half bajoran, half betazoid Chief Helm Officer. She smirked a sly smirk as she sat at a bench along the wooden walls of the hall. "Good show, Captain. A little too easy for someone of your skill level, but it was entertaining none-the-less."

"Computer, end program." Rojac said as he wiped the sweat from his forehead. The klingon warrior suddenly disappeared, leaving Rojac and Rayna alone in traditional dojo environment. "yeah, Well I'm a little rusty. I haven't fought like that in years. What are you doing here Lieutenant?"

"This is my scheduled time, Captain." Rayna said, still wearing that mischievous smile. Her deep black bajoran eyes seemed alluring to the captain as he approached his workout bag.

Cropa picked up his chronometer. "I see. I apologize, Lieutenant. I did not mean to intrude. I must have lost track of time."

"That's okay, Captain. I enjoyed the show." She stood up and stretched her arms high up to the ceiling. Rojac couldn't help but admire the view from behind her, he quickly averted his gaze back to the floor. "Though these programs do get boring after a while," She continued, "too predictable, I think. Would you care to spar, Captain?"

Rojac looked up surprised. "I don't know, Lieutenant."

"Oh please, Captain." She chuckled, tossing a disarming glance at her superior officer. "We're on Shore Leave, call me Rayna. And it would be an honor to receive a personal lesson from a  former Champion of the Sol Martial Arts circuit."

"You know about that, huh?" Rojac asked, his own smile appearing on his face. "Well – Rayna – that was years ago. I'm a little rusty and not sure how much I could teach at the moment."

"Oh come on, Captain." She walked up to the floor and turned around, beckoning. "I won't hurt you too bad."

Rojac chuckled, and stepped forward. She assumed a fighting stance, and he did also. He made the first attack:

He lashed out with a back leg round kick to her midsection which she slid back from to evade, but he followed with a spinning back kick in anticipation of her move. He didn't anticipate on her accounting for that as well. Rayna grabbed the foot from the second kick, and twisted the foot and ankle until it was horizontal with the floor. The Captain fell to the floor, where he quickly rolled to the side, narrowly missing a stomping kick from the extremely quick helm officer. He rolled backward onto his feet and slid back to a fighting stance as she took up a charge.

Rayna jumped into the air, executing a flying side kick that caught Rojac square in the chest. Rojac staggered back ward out of breath as the helm officer's onslaught continued with back-fists and round kicks galore. She was definitely more challenging than the klingon program. Between a punch and what was going to be a round house, Rojac quickly stepped forward and blocked Rayna's momentum. He caught her underneath her armpits, and used his height as leverage to toss her to the floor. She fell onto her back, and Rojac quickly mounted in an attempt for another arm-bar.

However, when he grabbed hold of her arm, she wrapped her legs around the Captain's neck, and squeezed hard. Rojac felt the air escaping his lungs as she arched her back and increased the leverage. He coughed, and let go of her arm in order to try and pry her legs from his throat.  It was no use, and eventually he found himself tapping the floor in surrender.

She released, and Rojac rolled onto his hands and knees and started laughing. She did too.

"I think you'll have to do the teaching, Lieutenant." He said between breaths.

She smiled, and bent over to help her superior officer up. "I can do that. I taught a class when I was aboard the Magellan, perhaps I can start one here and you can attend."

"What, and get my ass beat in front of my crew every other day?" He laughed. "I don't think so, Lieutenant."

"It's Rayna, Sir."

"Cropa." Rojac replied. He picked up his towel once more and swallowed a swig form his water bottle. "Thank you for the lesson, Rayna."

"No problem." She replied, brushing her hair back behind her ear from where it had come loose during the sparring match. "Say, Cropa. Would you like to accompany me to the Officer's mess for a drink from the juice bar?"

"Isn't it the guy that's supposed to ask the girl on a date, Rayna?"

"Yeah." She replied. "But the man's supposed to be the better fighter too, right?" The mischievous smile returned to her face.
