[USS Chimera] ||LANCELOT|| 240811.01, NPC Log, Cdr Trent Rodgers (CO)

=Main Bridge=
=U.S.S. Lancelot=

Trent took a seat in the captain's chair and watched the four incoming Romulan
fighters. Normally, four fighters wouldn't be a match for a Katana-B class starship.
But, without weapons, shields and only thrusters for maneuverability … well, that
sort of changed things.

"How long?" Trent asked.

"Two minutes and 47 seconds," Toonces said from the tac station.

"They don't seem to be in a hurry," Lalya Jalann said from the XO's chair.

"Probably checking to see how bad of shape we're in," Trent muttered, tapping his
fingers on the arm rests of his chair. "In our shape, they will try to finish us off."

"Perhaps we should abandon ship," Shuite said, looking back at Trent from the helm.

"Our escape pods would just be picked off one-by-one," Trent said. "How many
shuttles do we have?"

"We had four type-7 shuttles and one type-9 loaded, sir, but two of the type-7
shuttles were severely damaged," the ops officer spoke up.

Trent quickly stood, straightening his uniform.

"Mr. Shuite, can you fly a shuttle as well as you fly a starship?" Trent asked.

"Even better, sir," Shuite responded with a grin.

"Then you're with me. Commander Lalya, have another pilot and three tactical or
security crewmen meet me in shuttle bay one ASAP," Trent said, headed for the
turbo lift which was still operational.

"Three shuttles against four fighters? You can't be serious," The XO said.

"What other choice do we have?" Trent responded as the lift doors opened.

"Sir, before you go. You wanted me to keep an eye on the Chimera," Toonces said.

Trent looked back as Shuite entered the lift.

"There was a huge explosion. The Chimera is being evacuated," Toonces continued.

Trent stared solemnly at the chief tactical officer for a moment then nodded before
turning and entering the lift.

Athena rolled to a sitting position letting the other woman to go back to her duties.  She let her gaze raise toward the ceiling.  With a sigh; she unconsciously supported her right side as she made it to her feet.  She began surveying the area around her trying to remember where she had seen that emergency kit.

Captain Lockheart got to her feet and went to report to Viktor  "General, we've received a message from the Chimera about how to beat the Romulan jamming.  They sent it using the Chimera's running lights to flash Morse Code out to the other ships.

Her eyes finally found it on the floor near the door.  She went and picked it up and made her way back to where the Captain was standing relaying some bit of information to Viktor.  Athena ripped the burnt cloth from the other woman's arm not caring too much if she took the dead skin with the material.  Athena ignored the look she received as she rummaged through the kit and found a cooling gel pack.  She applied the soothing gel to the captain's arm and then wrapped it to keep dirt away from the wound.

"Inform the other ships using the same method as Chimera then we can coordinate our attack better."  Viktor looked at Athena and said light heartedly "Are you sure you didn't miss your calling as a medic?"

"I don't have the bedside manner that's required," she started, "besides my grandmother was big on diplomacy."

Viktor raised an eyebrow.  "And so you were to become a diplomat?  Wow that would be a different world if you were one."

"I started out working as a diplomat's aide....... I didn't like it."

The deck shook with another impact.  "Move Artemis and Poseidon closer towards us so the interceptor guns arcs of fire overlap with those of the Hermes."  He turned back to Athena "How come?  I figured you would enjoy meeting all those different people."

"Would you find it ironic if the rule makers were the biggest ones about breaking the rules," she answered with a question.  It was a question that held truth but really said nothing.

Viktor shrugged "Not really.  The usual trend is the more power a person has, the more skeletons they have in the closet.  I know, I spent many years clearing up the messes that Federation Politicians and high ranking Starfleet Brass got themselves into and trust me pretty much all of them illegal."

"Skeletons, alcohol and sex all the good things that makes... the univ...," her words were cut off as new information was relayed to Viktor.

"General!  Sensors indicate Chimera has taken a major hit.  Her impulse core has overloaded...she's dead in the water.  Several Warbirds are closing in for the kill!"  Captain Lockheart shouted.

"Direct all long range fire at those Warbirds.  Put everything we've got into covering that ship except for the Herakles, Demeter and Atlas.  Keep them inbound to cover the Starbase."  Viktor ordered sparing a moment to check how Athena was reacting.

Athena's gaze was on the view screen where she could see the Chimera.  Pictures of different people at different times flashed through her head.  With her concentration on else where she slid hard into Viktor when the ship shuddered again.  The impact cause a sharp intake of breath as her gaze quickly flew up to meet Vik's.  She pressed her lips into a firm grimace to keep from wincing.

As the first of the escape pods started to jettison from the stricken Chimera a few of the Warbirds changed from targeting the Chimera itself to the fleeing escape pods.  Lines of green disruptor fire ripped through the defenceless escape pods.  Viktor scowled and said angrily.  "Cowardly bastards.  Change the fleet course to cover the Chimera's evacuation.  Put our shields between them and those Warbirds."

She brought her hands up and pushed away from Vik's chest.  She turned away from the screen hoping that not seeing what was happening would help with the emotions that seemed to be crushing in around her.

[USS Chimera] 240811.01, Duty Log 2, Cdr Rick Rodgers (CEO)

=Deck 15=
=U.S.S. Chimera=

Rick was on his knees, motionless, as he stared at what was once a
large section of the deck. Now, there was nothing but space and debris.
He was stunned ... more than stunned. He couldn't think and could
barely breath. Somewhere beyond was what once was sickbay, or
at least a large part of it.

"Rick, what are you still doing here?" someone said from behind him.

He didn't react. He didn't move.

He felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Gustav wanted me to make sure you got off the ship. We're two of
the only dumb SOB's still on board."

Rick just heard words, but didn't comprehend what was actually being
said. He simply didn't care. A figure appeared in his peripheral vision,
but he still didn't make out who it was.

"Damn it, Rick, we've gotta go! We don't have much time left!"

"Just leave me be," Rick muttered.

"No ... I'm not going to do any such thing. I'm getting you off this ship.
What's gotten into you?"

Rick turned his head slowly and faced the figure, who he realized was
Xavier Flores.

"I ... I can't ..." was all Rick could say.

"I don't know what's wrong, commander, but I can't leave you here,"
Flores said. "I won't leave you here ...even if I have to drag you to the
escape pod."

Rick turned his gaze back to the empty space. Flores followed his gaze
and started to realize what may be going through his head.

"Rick, a number of people managed to get out of sickbay before the
deck was wiped out," Flores said.

This caught Rick's attention as he looked up at the other engineer again.

'Is he lying just to get me off the ship?' Rick thought.

"Really?" a small ray of hope returned to Rick.

"Yes, sir. I don't know who made it out, but I know a few people did.
We've gotta go now, or we're not going to make it."

Rick took a deep breath and began to regain his bearings. He allowed
Flores to help him up. But before they walked away, he looked back at
the large gaping hole.

"Rick ...?" Flores said.

There was a short pause, then Rick nodded.

"Let's go," Rick said as they made their way to Deck 16.

All alert systems were going off.  MaiKai heard someone yell, "Sickbay's been breached!"  Only thing left to do was get to an escape pod, but Mai couldn't move.  All the AMOs were assisting patients into getting to the nearest escape pods as quickly as they could.  Even knowing that Mai's department was running smoothly given the circumstances, she still could not and would not move.

Lindsay Joy came up from behind Mai and was firmly tugging on her shoulders.  "Mai.  Mai! Come on! We have got to move!"

Mai just stood there looking at the ground, "I can't..."

"And why can't you?" Lindsay said forcefully.  She really didn't have time for this.  No one did.

"I know we must go.  Everyone is, but I can't help thinking where Rick and Rachel might be ... or end up ..."

"Well, why don't you use your comm badge," Lindsay was really trying.  This may be the first time Mai has really pushed her buttons.  It was their lives here

+taps+ Lieutenant Commander Rodgers to Commander Rodgers.

Nothing. Just a little zapping sound.

"My comm badge isn't working ..." Mai almost mumbled.

"You just have to believe they've made it out.  Whether on their own or by help," Lindsay tried to convince.

"I just don't know, Linds, and that bothers me..."

Lindsay grabbed Mai by the forearm.  "We are leaving! You understand? Both of us are getting off this ship". She pulled on Mai and the CMO reluctantly began to follow her Head Nurse in the direction of the nearest escape pods.  First at more of a drag then they picked up at a run.  They were going to make it and they only hoped that the rest of the crew would as well.

[USS Chimera] 240811.01, Duty Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers (CEO)

=Somewhere in the Chimera=

When Gustav told Rick that shields had finally been restored, the CEO

still found himself in the middle of a fire fight with the Romulans. When
more security crewmen arrived, he saw this as his change to work on
the next problem ... the impulse drive.

He knew that he had to work on the drive itself in order to get it
working properly. Without it and the mobility it would provide, the shields
that had just regained would not last long.

Rick managed to sneak out through a series of jeffries tube before being
deposited on the impulse drive deck. As he walked down the corridor, he
felt the ship shake worse than normal. Then, there was an explosion just
ahead of Rick, which tossed him back several meters. He blacked out for
a long moment before regaining conscience and struggling to his feet.

"Are you OK, sir," a crewman rushed up to him asked.

Rick rubbed his aching head and cleared his vision.

"I'm fine," Rick said. "What happened?"

"I ... I don't know sir, but we've been ordered to abandon ship."

'So it was that bad,' Rick thought, rubbing his hand through his hair.

"Then go to the nearest escape pod," Rick ordered.

Rick walked away with the crewmen just watching. He knew that there
was nothing he could do now for the Chimera. He also knew that his own
people would get off the ship safely.

So, he had one priority now ... his family.

Rick's first stop was to get Rachel. But before he got too far ...

"Commander Rodgers," Rick heard someone say over the internal comm link.
"This is Lieutenant T'Vel from Sickbay. Commander Summers and I have the
children and we are evacuating via escape pod. Do not beconcerned, Rachel is
safe with us."Rick was still concerned, but he knew his daughter was in
capable hands.
Now he had to find MaiKai and make certain she was OK.

He made it several meters from sickbay when a security crewman stopped
him. Rick noticed that up ahead, something was not right.

"Sir, you can't go that way," the crewman said, stepping in front of Rick.

"Why not?" Rick asked with some anger in his voice.

"Most of the deck up ahead had been destroyed, including sickbay. There's
nothing left."

Rick felt the blood drain out of his face and his heart beat more rapidly.

"Get out of my way," Rick grunted, trying to force down the lump in his
throat.

"Sir, I can't let ..."

Rick just pushed him out of the way and continued forward. The crewman
didn't bother to follow, instead going the way Rick had come.

When Rick turned the corner, he saw nothing but space and debris being
held back by a force field. He's legs gave out as he fell to his knees. Tears
started streaking down his face.

"Oh God no ... please no ... no ... no ...," he muttered in a state of shock,
unable to move.

***Deck 2***

When Tommy came to, he at first could not move. From where he was lying he could see the remains of two of his crew mates who were following him to the source of the invaders. The grenade had done it's work well, as all he could see was a couple of arms and a head.It was only the differences in skin color that told him they were from more than one body. He tried again to get up and managed to get to his feet. { damn romulan bastards are going to pay for this} he thought. He started to walk forward and almost fell as a sharp pain ran up his leg. He looked down to see a steady stream of blood running from what seemed to be several small holes. Tommy tore a piece from his jersey and tied it around his wounds, then picked up his phaser. Hw went to the ladder and was going to climb up when he heard the computer voice.

[Autodestruct program initiated. 3min25 seconds to detonation. Abandon ship] Tommy froze, then tapped his comm badge, + Jardan to Gordon+ + Here sir. The kids are safe. We are in an escape pod headed down to the planet's suface.+ + Good job. Did you have any trouble?+ + A little, sir. One of the kids, Martin, had to help a little. The kid sure knows his way around the jefferies tubes, sir.++ Alright, regroup with the rest of the crew planetside. I am going to see about getting of the ship.+ + Aye, sir. Gordon out.+

Tommy went over to the only working terminal on the deck and typed in a few commands. He read in horror(All escape pods released). He thought for a moment{ I wonder if...} Working quickly, he started to push on the wall. A second later, he heard a woosh as the wall slid back and a prototype emergency transporter emerged. Checking the power source to see if it was charged, he was gratified to see that it was. He quickly powered it up. then looked at the screen. He saw that an unknown type of vessel was chasing a warbird towards the Chimera. { I saw this in the guardian!} Then he opened up a channel. + To unknown vessel.. I need you to quickly open up a hole in your shields as I am trying to abandon ship and do not wish to die just yet.+ Tommy then stepped on to the padd and said," energize!" { Then time to get my revenge}

"shane.guzman@mojwap.sk" <shane.guzman@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

====== Bridge, USS Chimera ======

It was just a few minutes ago that the Qashqai rocked some
Warbird engaged in a dog fight with the D'Artagnan … and
now was going to help the Manticore. Shane left the decision
what to do on Vlimar, as he focused fully on the tactical
overview of the battle sight. He was trying to understand
the tactical situation first … before issuing any orders.

The battle took heavy tolls on Starfleet vessels … three
of them destroyed, two more floating dead in space … all
others damaged … more or less. Chimera sustained heavy
damage and it looked quite bad for the lady. For a moment
Shane thought about Rangi and Martin, but he could do little
to help them … and the best to help all … was to win
this battle.

Ivanov's Erassian fleet pierced the enemy like a rapier
and divided the battle field into two halfs. A smaller
Romulan force …about 4 ships was near SB 234 and the rest
of the Romulan fleet on the other end of the battle field.
For the moment, Erassians had the upper hand, as they
employed heavy weaponry and destroyed already some 20
Warbirds …

Together with the 15 Warbirds already disabled by Starfleet
… Romulan fleet shrinked to 'just' 15 Warbirds …

"Colonel" Shane said toward Vlimar, "I think it's
time to have some fun. I have a plan how to ease the
pressure on our ships, but I fear it will be us who will
become a priority target"

Vlimar's reply was just a grin.

Shane nodded and tapped his armchair console … opening a
public channel.

"Here is Commodore Shane Guzman speaking. I am taking
command over all Starfleet vessels in this area. All vessels
need to retreat to SB 234 and regroup there. I repeat …
All vessels need to retreat to SB 234 and regroup there"

Some of the bridge crew looked curiously @ Shane and he
replied … more to himself then to anyone else: "SB 234
has still shields up … powered by secondary power, but
still @ 30%. Ships within the shields radius will receive
base protection … what could help them a lot" Of course,
star base shields were FAR more powerful then shields of any
starship ... inclusive CHimera or Manticore.

He wanted to see about the status of all Starfleet ships …
choose those will least damage and aid the Erassians with a
banded strength of several ships. If that will work … only
time will tell.

Shane turned to the HELM officer and said: "I suppose that
sooner or later the Rommulans will realize that the Qashqai
houses the fleet Commander and will start pursue us. Be
prepared for evasive maneuvers …"

Vlimar was busy, but Shane could see it the same good …
Viktor's forces were under attack … by cloaked ships. A
cloaked attack was a nasty thing as one could not see were
the attacking ships are … or from where the next hit will
come from …"

Adding pain to injury … Vlimar announced: "Sir, there
are approximately 30 MORE Warbirds decloaking just behind
the Erassian fleet … opening fire!"

"Bren Ohmsford" <ohmsford83@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

= USS Chimera - Jefferies Tubes =

T'Vel kept climbing downward on the rungs with Rangi following above
her. Once again, as they had done five times before, they came to a
junction and T'Vel stopped to check the hatch... but, once again, it
was sealed and neither her code nor Rangi's code would unseal it. The
commander had even tried her code from when she was Chimera's XO in
hopes that it might work, but to no avail.

It was quite eerie in the half light with occasional muffled sounds
from outside and their footfalls within. Twice the ship took
particularly serious impacts. The first one had caused Rangi to cling
precariously to the ladder as T'vel had dropped a few feet to the
floor below.

"I am perfectly alright Commander." the Vulcan had replied when Rangi
called down to ask if she was hurt. Climbing down, Rangi had thanked
their lucky stars that they hadnt been starting a descent or T'Vel
might well have been disabled by the fall.

The ladders and tubes all looked the same and only a small reference
code above each hatch told them where they were inside the gigantic
ship.

"None of these codes are going to work." Rangi said as T'vel retraced her steps.

"Perhaps the next one," T'Vel said as she did with the others,
returning to the ladder. "If we had a maglock, we could be able to
unseal the hatch."

" I doubt it." Rangi replied. " That was E18 22 wasnt it?...thats
still within the Task Force area. Everything will be locked
down...maglocks wouldnt help us."

"Then we must continue downward," T'Vel said.

They climbed down again further, passing a deck number that read Deck
28 and came to another junction with an exit hatch.

"Right...lets try this one." Rangi said, crawling past T'Vel and
pressing in her code on the small panel above the doorway.

Nothing happened for a second or so then the little red light changed
to green. Rangi tried the handle and with alot of pressure it moved
slightly to the left. "It's 'stuck'... I think." she said through
gritted teeth and moved aside for her companion to try as well.

T'Vel tried the hatch and at last it budged, moving open. As she
looked out of the hatch, the deck was dark and seemed without any
power distribution. Climbing out, she helped Rangi out of the
Jefferies tube and to her feet.

Rangi thought it unlikely that a Romulan would be hiding in the
darkness on the off chance that someone would emerge from a hatch so
she risked switching on her torch and swung it in both directions. The
beam was eaten by the darkness so she brought it to bare on a
bulkhead which read 'Section A-12, Deck 28'.

" It's....that way." Rangi said, speaking very quietly and pointing
into the pitchblackness.

"We must find the children." she said.".... and release Spc Gordon.
He's far more use in active security than being locked in a room as a
bodyguard.....we'll take charge of them..after all, its out duty to
care for the weakest...and they are. If the nurses stations are still
manned we should be able to find out whats happened in the sickbays.
The nearest one is two sections from here."

"Agreed," T'Vel replied.

The officers continued onwards into the darkness, keeping against the
wall and making sure they didn't make any excess noise. As they went
on, T'Vel tried again tapping her commbadge to see if it would be
picked up by the comm system, but it was as dead as the lights.

They passed another junction, travelled the length of the corridor and
came to a crosspoint. Rangi shone her torch onto the deck reference
above their eye level on the wall.

"How much further, Commander?" T'Vel asked Rangi.

"We're two sections away. " Rangi replied. " Any luck with the comm system yet?"

"None, Commander," T'Vel answered as they carried on down the corridor.

Chimera was still under attack, that much was evident from the sounds
and shaking that continued far too often for comfort but it wasnt
until they reached a final junction that they saw signs of life.

The corridor at the far end was dimly lit and they exchanged a glance
when they turned the corner and saw it. Quickening their pace, they
hurried along until they came at last to the room that sheltered the
children. Rangi slapped her hand on the button.

"Commander Summers!" she said before anyone had time to ask who was
there and tapped in the code. Nothing happened. and Rangi looked at
T'Vel. " Not again" she said.

Undeterred, T'Vel took her phaser and aimed at the edges of the door,
literally cutting it off its hinges. When she was done she stood back
and waited, but nothing happened.

"Where are they?" Rangi asked, having expected some response from the
inhabitants, particularly Spc Gordon.

Rangi's words were scarcely cold when the ship shook violently, too
violently. They were thrown to the floor and T'Vel could feel the
gravity plating shuddering, hearing the sound of metal tearing apart.
The door fell forwards, revealing the frightened faces inside the
room.

Gordon was crouching forward ready to fire the phaser levelled at Rangi

"No!" she cried in horror but his reflexes were fast and the weapon
was lowered in an instant. Behind him cowered the figures of Mimi and
Laura, They too held phasers at the ready and from somewhere out of
sight came sound of a child crying. Gordon said simply " Commander"
and lowered his phaser further.

The blast seemed to have triggered emergency power conduits as lights
suddenly flickered and came on briefly. As T'Vel got up she tapped her
commbadge, "Lieutenant T'Vel to Sickbay."

There was nothing, no response, but the commbadge chirped, signalling
that it was connected to the comm system and that the fault was most
likely on Sickbay's side.

"Mummy?" came a quavering voice which Rangi could have recognised
anywhere and next moment Martin, with a tearful Rachel behind him,
appeared from their hiding place. Rangi released a sigh of relief to
see them alive and well.

"What's happened?" Laura asked but she addressed the question to T'Vel
aware of the reunion gouing on beside her.

"Romulan troops have boarded the ship," T'Vel explained quickly.

"All hands, abandon ship," was the next thing they heard, echoing
through the intercom system and their commbadges. It was followed by
an automated repeat from the computer announcing that all officers
proceed to the nearest escape pod.

Gordon moved to the door way, ready to defend their escape route. Mimi
took Rachel in her arms, reassuring the child over and over again that
it was alright.

"He'll stay with me." Rangi said to Laura who stepped forward to take
charge of Martin and she gave a brief nod of understanding

"This way," T'Vel indicated to the nearest escape pod. Next she tapped
her commbadge. "Commander Rodgers," she said, trying to get through to
the Chief Engineer. "This is Lieutenant T'Vel from Sickbay. Commander
Summers and I have the children and we are evacuating via escape pod.
Do not be concerned, Rachel is safe with us."

Gustav was busy trying to organize all the engineers he had at his
disposal into groups, then assigning each group a task in fixing the
shields, he did the same for himself assigning Alan to his team,
Gustav needed to have someone on his team that he knew he could trust
and was a good engineer, even though no one could accuse Alan and
Gustav of being friends to Gustav Alan was a known factor.

"Team 2 help sort out that like in the plasma conduit team 3 help
reroute power from secondary systems to the shields" Gustav ordered
trying to find all the power he could

"Alan can you think of anywhere we can skim some power from to try and
get these shields back up" Gustav asked wiping the blood from his face
from the cut he received from his earlier fall.

Alan thought as he typed a few keys and then removed a side panel and
pulled a couple of bad routers out and began the process of putting
the new routers in. "I don't know ..... what about putting the
replicators in a loop and stealing some of that energy," Alan stated
his thought like question. "Or is there some system that isn't need
and can be shut down?"

"I'll try the replicators as well as the holodecks" Gustav said while
taping a few commands into the console to divert the power but it
wasn't enough power just then Rick got in touch.

+tap+ "Rodgers to Kroitzer. You be receiving a little more power now.
It won't be that much, but it should be enough to give us a little
shielding."

"Perfect" Gustav said to himself a few more taps and the power from
the holocloak was added to the power already in reserve for the
shields.

Alan finished with the routers and then quickly punched the necessary
keys to add what little he could to the overall effort. "All set" Alan
replied as he watched the results and tried to keep the power steadily
increasing.

"Good then lets try the shields" Gustav said relived that Alan was
quick at his job.

As Gustav reactivated the shield matrix he informed ops on the bridge
that shields where now back online.

"Good work Alan but we're not done yet, we still have to sort the
impulse engines". But before they could start work on them Gustav
noticed that there was a spike in the impulse core Gustav threw an
engineer working at the impulse drive console to the ground just
before it blew burning Gustav's uniform but not himself.

"Feeling a bit toasty" Alan asked as he helped to put the fires out.

"Very funny" Gustav said picking himself up and dusting himself off.

"That was the impulse core, it's blew we've suffered massive damage".
Gustav mentioned staring at the readout on the console in front of
him.

Alan looked at his own readout and was shaking his head, "I'm not ....
there isn't... could we..."

Gustav was wondering what the hell to do now when the Captain made an
announcement over the comms.

"All hands...Abandon ship ".

"Well.. we could do that," Alan agreed. "I don't see anything else
really ... at least that wouldn't take time.... which we don't seem to
have."

"We'll head to transporter 11 and beam to the escape pods on deck 47"
Gustav ordered as he looked at the plans of the ship.

"Where's Rick," Alan asked almost as an after thought.

"With the security forces I think, but right now he isn't my concern,
it's getting everyone here to the escape pods as quickly and safely as
possible". With that all the engineers followed Gustav's orders and
headed to the transporter rooms as quickly as possible.

== USS Qashqai ==

Vlimar was eyeing the holoprojector, getting an update of the battle. Finally, reinforcement was coming to SB234. It was time to the Qashqai to get closer to the battle site and getting engaged. They were just waiting for Shane orders.

Minutes later, Shane instructed the Q to head to the battle site. Immediately, the Q engaged into Warp.

"Sir, the USS D'Artagnan has engaged a warbird and keeping it distracted. It might be the time to do our entry....", Vlimar said to Shane. Shane looked at Vlimar and nodded. No words needed to be said.

The Q got out of warp, awfully close to the D'Artagnan. The D'Artagnan was obviously busy, as many fighters were trying to "bite" it. Vlimar knew that the Souvereing Class would do just fine and was looking for another ship to support. On the Holoprojector, another ship seemed to be bitten, but it was more dangerous for that one. It was the Manticore.

Vlimar immediately started targetting the fighters on the Manticore. They were surrending it like a bounch of pirhanas. Vlimar felt lucky that no Warbird deemed the Q was big enough to be an issue. What they didn't know is that the Q wasn't just "another Defiant".

[USS Chimera] SD 240810.31 || Bridge Log || USS Chimera NX 96899-B ||

<<OOC: May this day, Halloween of 2008, live in infamy as the day the Chimera-B fell from the heavens. +rojac>>

[Bridge - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-B]

Dexter wiped the sweat from his face. He had a salty taste in his mouth and his face was somewhat black-ish … result
from the little smoke on the bridge. Since shields were down… with little to no energy left to reinforce them, Martin joined the common effort of other OPS officers on the bridge of trying to assign and relocate the resources needed throughout the ship. He was quite surprised when his console announced that the shields were suddenly online … with 20% strength … and rising. "Captain", he called, "we have shields again. 20% strength and the power came from the holographic cloak systems … "

"Are there enemies in the cloak control room?" Rojac asked, although espionage was not the biggest worry on his mind. Dexter tapped his console and replied: "No as far I can tell, but internal sensors are off line in various section of that deck."

"Reboot the shields again," Natalia ordered. "It might increase the efficiency." It was a wild shot, but worth trying if it mean the shields could be reinforced.

"Shields restored to 50% although I don't know how much longer we can maintain them at that.  Internal power is spiking all over the place." Anya reported from her post.

The science officer filling in for Commander Terek chimed in. "Sir, Erassian fighters have engaged the romulan squadrons. They are forcing them into a retreat."

But just as Rojac was about to thank the gods for small miracles, the door to the bridge exploded. The two marines stationed at the door were propelled to the floor onto their backs from the concussion. Two more stationed at the turbolift quickly pulled their rifles to their shoulders and aimed at the smoky opening. Rojac had pulled his own phaser and fired at the first dark figure to wade in through the
haze, catching the armored romulan in the top right shoulder. The marines followed suit.

"Computer, activate Level 10 security force field around the bridge!" the XO shouted as she pulled the phaser pistol from her belt. But she had barely time to get up from her seat when she was thrown unceremoniously to the ground.

The bridge shook violently as a plasma torpedo struck the rear shields.  "Another Warbird on our tail!" Anya shouted as she tried to
return fire on the pursuing Warbirds with the rapidly failing rear weaponry.

Being no hero, Dexter ducked behind his console. He let the marines to do their job … and he did his. A flashing red light announced a new problem. "I read an energy spike in the impulse engines" he announced, "system overload imminent!"

On Deck 18 a small group of engineers valiantly battled to control the power flow to the impulse reactor core.  One of them widened his eyes as he saw a massive power surge flood towards the core.  He didn't even have time to shout out a warning as the core burned brightly and overloaded detonating like a mini atom bomb.

Rojac picked himself back up from his knees and wiped the trickles of crimson blood from his forehead. "Report!" He called out, hoping to hear more that painful groans for an answer. The billows of churning black smoke filled his lungs and made it hard for him to see.

As Natalia got back on her seat she kept coughing, trying to clear the smoke from her lungs. "The impulse reactor has breached," she
reported, her voice scratchy as she read the unbelievable information that was coming through on her console. "Major damage on decks 15-21! Shuttlebay 2 is gone, Cargo bays 5, 6 & 7, Aft ventral RCS thrusters! Life support has gone critical and parts of Deck 15 are missing... that's Sickbay." Natalia looked at Rojac, for the first time feeling almost helpless.

Rojac looked around defeated at the shambles of what had only an hour before been his proud Bridge, his domain. This
had always been HIS ship, since his days as a tactical cadet, to his days as its Chief Tactical Officer. He did a few jobs away from her while he was a lieutenant commander, but destiny called him back. But why? Was it for this painful moment? For this lone decision in protection of the Federation and its ideals? If it was, then so be it.

"Xerxes, engage tactical program 'Immolation'." Rojac ordered.

"Sir I've never heard of of that programme, though if Starfleet uses a name like that it can't be good." Anya replied.

"It's classified, Lieutenant. Type it in, you'll find it." Rojac replied.

{Huh} Dexter thought, {immolation?} he asked himself. Knowing the ways of Starfleet, he feared that the requested program will do little good to the ship …

"Sir..." Natalia said almost quietly, surprised that Rojac would resort to such an extreme. Immolation was a classified program only CO's and XO's were informed about, the specifics of which varied from ship-to-ship. Suffice to say there would be nothing left of the ship
afterwards. But if Rojac was going to do this, she would back him 100%. He was her captain after all, and she trusted him. "Are you sure we should do this?"

"Yes." Rojac replied quietly, his usual resolve seemed distant. Natalia could sense the remorse in his voice; the defeat.

[Attention. Auto-destruct Overload Prototype Program requires CO and XO authorization.] The computer said, in its cold tonality.

Dexter wanted to shout … to stop the Captain from making such a capital mistake … but he couldn't. Deep in his heart her knew that the battle is lost and the Chimera just a wreck .. beyond any hope for salvage …

"Authorization Rojac-Theta-Omicron-Five." Rojac said, then he looked to Natalia.

"Authorisation Trzetrzelewska-Omega-Kappa-Nine," Natalia answered, speaking clearly.

"Computer set timer for five minutes on my mark." He took a deep breath. "Mark."

Natalia looked around the bridge and tried to remember what it looked like before it was half-destroyed, but for some reason she couldn't. In the back of her head she was glad she didn't spend all that much time redecorating her XO quarters, since it would all be going to hell now. What was bothering her most were all the innocent lives that would be sacrificed, and that already were sacrificed. There was no telling if all the crew would be able to make it to the escape pods

Rojac sat back in his chair as the lights flashed through the caustic smoke. He pressed the ship-wide comm button. "All hands..." A shudder shook the ship violently, no doubt bringing the shields close to zero and hammering the nail further into the coffin of the Chimera-B. "Abandon ship." He released the button, and quickly looked over to Xerxes at tactical. "Xerxes find their capital ship and target it. Give the coordinates to helm."

"Rojac..." Natalia said, suddenly alarmed. "It will take the crew time to get off the ship. If you–"

"Trust me." Rojac said, without looking at her. "Pazla, set a course for the target and program the Chimera to engage warp at the last second of the countdown. We're going to bring the party to them."

"Aye, sir," Pazla replied, tapping in the order. The Chimera was a sitting duck in space. Impulse was blown to bits and thrusters were
practically gone. Surprisingly they still had warp and she had a feeling she knew where Rojac was going with his place. "Done. Engines
set to engage at Warp 4 just before the conclusion of countdown to specified coordinates."

It was the second time that Dexter had to abandon a ship called Chimera … first on the lost planet and now again. During the entire battle he hoped for some miracle … he hoped that someone would come up wit some genius pla … like they did always. Some super manoeuvre that would turn the bitter defeat to a glorious victory. It was a shame that nothing like that happened.

"Captain?" Natalia asked when she noticed that Rojac wasn't following when she started up the ramp to the emergency exit.

"This fight is not over." Rojac said, the usual calm assuredness had somehow returned to his demeanor. "This is but one sacrifice we will have to make. Find your way to an escape pod and make it to Aeran III to regroup a resitance." He opened a weapons locker and slung a rifle over his shoulder.

"Where are you going?" she asked, concerned that he wasn't coming with.

"To the Captain's Yacht." Rojac said. "I'm not going down quite yet."

"Captain."  Anya threw Cropa a padd that she pulled from her pocket. "On that is the design specs for the new fighter I've been developing for Starfleet.  Ensure that it reaches the correct people.  The tactical systems have been locked to automatically provide covering fire for the escape pods."  At the querying look that he sent her she replied "I'm an Erassian and a pilot.  If it's my time to die then I'll do so along side my brothers and sisters in arms in the cockpit of a fighter where I belong."  She snapped a final salute "It has been an honour to serve with you Sir, those who are about to die salute you."  Her figure disappeared in the haze of a site to site transport which took her to the Main Shuttle Bay where Ambassador Ayanami was waiting on her with her Hybrid Bowfighter primed and ready for launch.

"Figured you'd show up Anya, care to try flying this in combat?" Alecto said with a grin.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240810.30 Joint Log NPCs Blythe, Ens. Hopeler, Guzman, Rodgers & Gordon

=/\= Secluded Children's Hideout =/\=
Mimi continued hold on to Rachel and encouraged her to be
quiet and then the intruder alert sounded.  She caught
Specialist Gordon seem to add even more starch to his spine
out of the corner of her eye.  Rachel struggled even more.

"MOMMY...... DADDY..." the child shouted.

"They'll be all right," Mimi responded and hoped that she
wouldn't be lying to the child.

"NO.." Rachel screamed and pushed at Mimi.  "LET ME GO!"

Rachel had about squirmed her way free and Mimi loosened her
grip a bit to get a better hold.  It was an unfortunate move
for the little girl broke free by kicking the young
counselor as hard as possible.  One foot caught Mimi in the
chest while the other caught the side of her face.

Martin watched the outburst with wide frightened eyes which
he turned to Laura.  "It's alight." she said speaking in a
soft tone. " Rachel's upset. Don't worry Martin." She
squeezed his hand between
her own as she spoke but looked towards the little girl.

Rachel streaked across the room toward the specialist.  Mimi
gasped pulling air into her lungs and then scrambled to her
feet to dart after the little girl.

Gordon stood with his back to the door and as the little
child came hurtling at him, reached out a hand to grab her,
almost pulling her off her feet.

"Keep control of her can't you?" he growled, glaring at
Mimi. "Do you want to invite Romulans in here? Keep the
noise down!"

Laura crossed the room towards the door with Martin holding
tightly to her hand.  "Mr Gordon..please let's all keep calm
shall we?" she said in a reasoned tone.  His face was drawn
into a displeased frown but he released Rachel and replied
gruffly, "Just keep them quiet."

Mimi pulled Rachel into a gentle hug and then held her by
her arms and waited until Rachel looked her in the eyes.
"Remember .... we talked about this and your Mommy and Daddy
wanted Laura and I and Mr. Gordon to keep you safe."

Tears streamed down Rachel's face as she nodded to Mimi's
words and she clutched her bear even closer.  Mimi picked
Rachel up and returned to the now hidden corner.  Rachel
snuggled into Mimi but asked, "Why do the Romlans have to be
so mean?"

Mimi didn't have an answer.  She held the little girl a bit
closer and let a tear or two slip down her own cheeks as she
met Specialist Gordon's gaze.

Martin had taken a step forward and looked up at Gordon who
towered over him.  "You wont let them in will you?" he
asked.

"No one's getting in here," came the reply.  "You just keep
quiet and do what you're told ok?"  Martin said nothing but
looked back at Rachel and after a moment, remembering his
promise to Rangi to be brave and
care for the little girl, he freed his hand from Laura and
crossed the room towards his little friend.

"What do you want us to do?" Laura asked Gordon quietly.

"You've got your phasers..keep them ready.  As soon as the
comm works again I'll get new orders."  Laura nodded and
turned away.

Mimi overheard the suggestion that the specialist had made
and pulled her phaser from her waistband.  She checked the
setting and hoped she didn't have to use the weapon.  As
Martin approached Mimi replaced the phaser at her hip and
gave the little boy a smile.

He looked from her face to the place  where she had hidden
the weapon and swallowed down a huge lump that seemed to be
sticking in his throat.  "Don't cry, Rachel," he said
turning to his friend. "Please, don't cry."

Mimi gave the boy another smile and laid a reassuring hand
on his shoulder.  She mouthed, "You're doing great, Martin."

Rachel sniffed and looked up at Martin.  She burst from
Mimi's arms and practically tackled Martin with a hug for
him.  "But I want to cry.....," she replied as she held on
to Martin almost as tightly as she was holding on to her
bear.  Taking a cue from Martin though as well she strived
to reassure her friend, "Your Daddy and Mommy will be ok."
Rachel had stopped the sobbing but tears still ran down her
reddened
cheeks.

Martin nodded. Everyone kept telling him that.' It will be
all right...don't worry..mummy and daddy will be ok' But it
wasn't alright, he 'was' worried and no one actually knew
where his mummy and daddy were. There were Romulans on the
ship, as well as firing at it from outside, Mimi had a
phaser and probably Laura did too.  He felt rather sick and
suddenly very hot.  "Lets play with my ships." he said
roughly, reaching out to
take the nearest one.  Rachel knelt down too.

Rachel looked at the ships on the floor but couldn't even
think of picking one up.  She hugged her bear closer,
thinking {my daddy will fix the ship and mommy will fix the
peoples}.

Martin looked at the little ship in his hand. It was a model
of the Qashqai.

Rachel looked over at Martin staring at the replica of his
Daddy's ship.  "I'd rather hear Mimi read another story."
Rachel scooted over to Mimi and Held out a special book that
the counselor with the pretty black hair had given her about
the Greeks.

Martin had liked the Greeks stories and made to put the ship
down but changed his mind and holding it firmly in his hand
followed Rachel and asked Mimi: " Can you read the one about
the giant man with one eye please?"

Mnemosyme lost track of where exactly she was on the base, but judging the color of uniforms that seemed to be lying sprinkled around the deck she guessed in some engineering area.  Looking at the bodies that seemed to be ruthlessly thrown away and the fact that most of them seemed to be fleet personnel; she guessed that they had unwanted company.  She pulled out the med tricorder that was in the kit the CMO had thrown at her and rapidly scanned the bodies making sure that none were alive.  With each body she passed she became more angry and sad at the senseless carnage.  She soon became aware the anyone they thought might still be alive; had their necks slit with a rather brutal blade.

Somewhere ahead of her a battle raged on, but a small blip indicating a heartbeat had Mnemosyme stopping dead in her tracks.  She knelt down at the closest body and the tricorder blipped again.  The heartbeat was slow and erratic.  The young man didn't even appear to be breathing.  She didn't understand how he could have made it when so many others hadn't.  {Is he the enemy in disguise} she wondered.  He had a minor wound on one of his legs and she went to check for the neck wound that would match the others.  As she moved in for a closer look his hands fell away from his throat releasing a stream of blood.  And the erratic blip of the tricorder went silent.

Mnemosyme stepped back and tripped over an engineering kit and a phaser.  {Way to be stealthy.}  She picked up the second phaser and added it to the waistband of her pants.  Why she bothered to start to pick up the tools and replace them into their kit, she had no idea.  When she heard footfalls heading her direction, she hurriedly scooped as many of the rest of the tools and small parts into the bag.  She stood putting the bag over the shoulder opposite the medkit and started going back the way she had come.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240810.30 Joint Duty Log Ensign Kroitzer & LtJg. Walker

=/\= Cargo Bay 6 =/\=
Alan met two cadets and an ensign met at the cargo bay. Alan had
arrived first but he smiled genially to the others as they showed up
in the hopes that he wouldn't put them ill-at-ease right from the
start. He had been trying to decide where the problem was and where to
start. After letting everyone see the results of the tricorder
readings that he had taken and a panel near the door was removed; Alan
divided the group into two. One of the cadets and the Ensign were left
to work on the panel that had been removed. The other cadet went with
Alan into the jefferies tubes to check out the problems that was
further into the bowels of the ship, at least that section of the
ship. And Alan sent the other repair team that showed up back to help
somewhere else.

=/\= About an Hour Later =/\=
Cadet Sherpa smiled at Alan as they both wiped sweat from their
foreheads. "Well, that wasn't too bad except for the closeness," the
cadet stated.

Before Alan could reply the computer had indicated an intruder alert.
"Come on," Alan said to the cadet as he moved in the opposite
direction that they had come.

+taps+ "Walker to Kroitzer."

Gustav was taking cover behind a console while all the fighting was
going on, taking pot shots at the Romulan intruders with the phaser he
was issued before the battle when ever he had seen an opening. ((wish
I was a better shot)). In between shots he was also trying to help
rick sort out the shields with no luck, somewhere along the line
Gustav hear a call from Alan but at that time he didn't have time to
answer.

+taps+ "Walker to Kroitzer." Alan sighed as he and the cadet kept
moving through the jefferies tubes and a sick feeling took over Alan's
stomach.

+taps+ "Gustav,damn it, answer!"

+taps+ "Alan.......under heavy fire........Romulans.......need
you.........engineering second deck now........be careful"

Alan looked back at the cadet that was following him, but didn't
answer. They came to another crossroads in the tubes and fortunately
this one gave them a choice of going up or down. So, down they went
until they could go no further and then they went left until the could
move down a few more decks and then right and then down a few more
decks until the finally got to deck 40. By the time Alan and Cadet
Sherpa had made it to the desired floor both were quite damp with
sweat.

Gustav was doing his best not to get shot and to cover any engineers
that could get to the second deck of engineering, the more engineers
he had the more likely he would be able to get the shields working
again.

"Be careful and quiet," Alan said as he caught his breath, ".... and
don't get caught." He watched as the cadet nodded. Alan took a couple
of minutes to find the hatch he wanted and slowly opened it. He
slipped out concealing the cadet if there had been Romulans around but
when he saw none; Alan motioned the cadet on.

Once all the engineers that could fall back Gustav left to go up,
glancing back he saw Rick helping the security forces deal with the
Romulan boarding parties.

They took a half a dozen steps and turn the corner and then slipped
into the upper level of engineering. Chaos met Alan's gaze as he
continued to look around.

"Thank god you made it here when you did Alan, we need all hands on
deck to try and get shields back up to stop these pissing Romulans"
Gustav said while trying to direct everyone to a station, or to
somewhere they could be of some use.

Alan nodded as a nearby station came into his view.  He pulled Cadet Sherpa forward to Gustav for a job as he started work at the station only a couple of steps away.  Alan pulled a couple pieces of debris away and started a diagnostic as he pulled up a subroutine to look over.

[USS Chimera] SD240810.30 =/\= Joint Batte log =/\= USS D'Artagnan & RIS Kuulam =/\= Part 1

== USS D'Artagnan =

Moïra finally managed to get on her new bridge. She looked
around in a hurried amazement, as the partially chosen crew
stepped in. Because, when Moïra was given the opportunity
to choose her crew, she was rather speechless. The only one
she wanted to choose was Blitz, but he was named there
anyway. For the rest, she picked up a crew that seemed to be
experience, but still young enough to be adventurous.

Moïra sat in the Commanding Officer's chair, ornamenting
the Bridge, almost in a glare. She slowly rest her petite
body in the chair, touching the armrests with the tips of
her finger. It seems that all that was surreal. She seemed
to forget the noise around her, as different officers were
taking place in chairs around her. The familiar face of
Blitz made her fade back in reality slowly.

Moïra was amazed of how fast everything seem to be
together. Granted, some finishing touch of the ship was not
done, but, overall, it was shining new, with that few
starship smells filling Moïra's nose. The leather's odour
was overwhelming, at least, for her.

After a few minutes, a beep could be heard at her right
side. Her eyes shifted on Blitz console. "Status?" Blitz
nodded as he was reading the message. "Essential combat crew
is on board. We have also 7 temporary assignments onboard,
due to the circumstances. Holodecks, the lounge and most of
the recreation area is still offline, so engineering has a
little more power to play with.", Blitz claimed.

Moïra nodded and looked at the helm. "Lieutenant Chavez,
Warp... ", he said, before being interrupted by Blitz. "This
is PO1 Watkins. Chavez hasn't arrive in time.", Blitz
claimed, smiling.

The PO turned and smiled, his thick red mustache contrasting
with his white teeth. Moïra nodded, grinned, then claimed:
"PO Watkins, Head for Starbase 234, Maximum warp... NOW!"

The D'Artagnan slowly moved out of the holding clamps and
made a sharp 270 degree turn. The nacelles powered up and
the ship was slingshoted into Warp.

"ETA, 28 minutes, Ma'am!", claimed LtJg Klein, the
Operations officer. Moïra looked at the holoprojector, as
the situation was frequently updated. She looked through the
system, to learn more about the ship she was granted the
helm of.

======= Bridge, RIS Kuulam ======

erie`Riov Talek, Leigh of D'Deridex Warbird Kuulam felt
quite happy. It was an honour that the Kuulam and her crew
could take part on the 1st stage of invasion into the hated
Federation territory. Talek was one of the more faithful
leighs (Cos) in the Galae (fleet) and he considered this
chance as a reward by the gods for his years of service in
the Romulan military. Eager, he waited for his chance to
prove himself.

For the moment, the RIS Kuulam as well as six other Warbirds
were held in reserve, at the edge of the battle. Close
enough to be in center of the battle within a minute, but
still far enough not to be in danger of getting any hits. If
it would be left on Talek, he would order the Kuulam to
attack the Federation Starbase, but as a loyal officer, he
complied to his orders and waited with six other ships for a
moment when fleet command would need them.

== USS D'Artagnan ==

Moïra looked up ad she heard the PO claiming they were
seconds away. She grabbed her armrests without even
noticing, as she ordered the ship to move out of warp.
"Status report!"

Klein barked: "Warbird right in front of us, heading to
SB234".

Moïra nodded and put the warbird on the main screen. She
looked at it. "Shields up!".

Blitz screamed at his turn "Red alert, all hands to battle
station.".

Moïra looked at Blitz and nodded. She understood that she
will need to get the reflexes, and fast.

======= Bridge, RIS Kuulam ======

The Gonaiih'Saehne (HELM) officer turned in his seat and
reported: "Leigh, the Federation ship is right behind us
…. As expected".

erie`Riov Talek nodded. It was just a few minutes ago since
Galae Command ordered the Kuulan to intercept the incoming
federation ship … called … D'A. Immediately, Kuulan
left the file of six reserve Warbirds, decloaked and
pretended to head towards SB 234. Command expected that the
Federation ship will get the bait and follow them.

They were right.

"Arm rear torpedo launchers with cloaked torpedoes and
target the D'A!" Talek ordered. "We shall surprise
them and teach them a lesson".

"Launchers ready" reported the Amei'Saehne (TAC)
officer.

"Fire!" called Talek.

Since they were cloaked, it was nothing to see on the main
screen … not even sensors showed a sign … and the Kuulam
continued on his straight course to SB 234. Talek hoped to
fool the enemy and catch them unprepared.

"thee … two … one … impact!" called the
Amei'Saehne (TAC) officer with affection in his voice.

== USS D'Artagnan ==

The hit was terrible. Not because it caused much damage, in
fact, it hit the shields hard and, momentorally brought them
as low as 28%, but because it was unexpected. Moïra stood
from her chair in excitement when she saw the warbird. She
was about to order torpedos to be fired, when the first
cloaked torpedo hit them. With the consecutive impact,
Moïra was thrown forwards 4 meters and landed flat on her
stomach, scraping her face on the ground.

At that time, Blitz screamed: "Compensate!", at the same
time than Klein advised the shield were down to 28%. Blitz
grabbed Moïra by the shoulders and turned her. She was
stunned a little, but conscient. "Transfer all power to
forward shields and, for the love of God, FIRE!", she
shouted, still laying on the ground.

The D'Artagnan's 8 forward torpedo bay emptied themselves
immediately, as the phaser cannons started spitting their
fire.

"Let's see what they think about that", Moïra added, as
she was standing up. Blitz nodded at Moïra then looked at
his Klein.

"What the hell was that?", he asked, not really waiting for
an answer.

======= Bridge, RIS Kuulam ======

"Direct hits … 100% precision!" called the Amei'Saehne
(TAC) officer.

erie`Riov Talek slammed his command chair in joy:
"That's shall server them! Sharp turn and fire
distruptors!" he ordered.

"Leigh" the Amei'Saehne (TAC) officer interrupted, "I
suggest we cloak and fish the DA with cloaked ammunition
…"

Talek scowled, "You're a coward. Just look at the meager
fleeters … they are frozen with fear and unable to
withstand our power. By the Declared … do what I say!"

The The Gonaiih'Saehne (HELM) officer already performed half
of the turn when the Amei'Saehne (TAC) officer cried:
"Incoming torpedoes!". It was ill luck for the RIS
Kuulam that four of the torpedoes hit the dorsal section …
where the shields were weakest. The ship rocked slightly and
lights flickered for a moment. "Minimal damage to the
hull, shields down to 70%" reported the Amei'Saehne (TAC)
officer.

Talek was surprised that the DA reacted that quickly. Taken
by surprise with weakened shields, the DA {what a silly
name!} was still a formidable enemy for a single D'Deridex
class Warbird. Tactical simulations declared that a
D'Deridex class equals to a Galaxy class federation ship
… but a Sovereigh class (what was DA's case) was
somewhat beyond their abilities.

Kuulam lost the surprise advantage and direct
"dog-fight" with the DA wasn't the best option.
"Call for assistance!" Talek called and turning to the
Amei'Saehne (TAC) officer he ordered: "Launch the
myotronic inhibitor! … we need to get their weapons
down!"

Finally, I am aboard the USS Chimera and ready to report for duty.  Once I am finished recording this log, I am going to report to the CMO, a personage by the name of Lieutenant Commander MaiKai Rodgers.  Indeed I am quite eager to do so and to begin my work aboard this starship but there is an issue that irks me greatly.  Before I took my leave of Krios Prime, mother pulled me aside and reprimanded me.  In fact, that was exactly what she did for the bulk of my trip there.

"Do you know how irresponsible it is to break with the traditions of your people?" She would admonish in her irate voice laced with coldness. "You have made your family the laughingstock because you joined this "Human Starfleet". You aren't a Human, you are a Kriosian. What of Karan, your husband? What of the life you live on Krios Prime? What of your status? Do any of those things mean nothing to you?"

In the beginning, I used to fight mother when she would yell at me but eventually, I just let her win.  Is it a crime to do what I want in life?  Earlier Empathic Metamorphs were forced into marriages for diplomatic and political reasons but I refuse to suffer the same fate.  Indeed being what I am is the curse of my life.  Nevertheless, I had better take my leave for I have business to take care of.

[USS Chimera] 240810.30, Duty Log, Cdr Rick Rodgers (CEO)

=Main Engineering=
=U.S.S. Chimera=

Long ago, Rick had learned that he done his best thinking when
his mind was on something else. His best ideas had come this way.
For example, one night in bed with Mai, he had come up with a
way to improve the efficiency of the deflector by 0.2 percent. It
had just popped into his head, out of no where. He hadn't even
considered making improvements on the deflector until that night.

Now, he was hoping it would work again. And, what better way
to keep your attention focused on something other than
engineering than being in the middle of a fire fight with a few
Romulans.

He had decided to join the security teams defending this section
of engineering.

He fired his phaser and missed his target as a Rommie managed
to take cover. When he fired again, though, he hit Rommie that
was standing next to his original target. That, though, brought a
hail of disruptor fire in his direction.

'OK, this is probably not one of my better idea,' Rick thought,
clutching his phaser tightly.

Then another thought came ... this one much more productive.
It was so obvious that it pissed him off that he hadn't thought of
it earlier.

"The holocloak," he muttered.

Even though the holocloak had been shut down, it was still
draining considerable power. That's just what the device did. It
always drained a certain amount of power because of it's
complexity. It gave the device reserve power, which was
necessary for it to function properly. And, it couldn't properly
store that power, so the power consumption had to be constant.
Even when most of the power on the ship was down, the
holocloak was still getting juice to its systems.

But now, the holocloak was not necessary. Other device were,
though, like the shields. It wasn't a lot of power, but Rick
hoped it would be enough.

Maybe ... just maybe ...

+tap+ "Rodgers to holocloak control room," Rick yelled over the
constant weapons fire.

+tap+ "Tembar here."

+tap+ "Tembar, shut down all power to the holocloak."

+tap+ "The holocloak is already offline."

+tap+ "No, Tembar. Shut down ALL power to the device. Pull
the conduits leading to the holocloak is you have to, but I want
no power going to the device."

+tap+ "Aye, sir," Tembar said.

Rick fired his phaser a couple of more times when the Rommies
attempted to flank them.

+tap+ "It's done. No power should be going to the holocloak,"
Tembar said a couple of minutes later.

Rick pulled back so he could communicate better with his people.

+tap+ "Rodgers to Kroitzer. You be receiving a little more
power now. It won't be that much, but it should be enough to
give us a little shielding."

-=- Star Base 234 - Desk 12 -=-

"Aim low," said the ODA Commander in  a soft Southern American

accent to the scratch platoon of Engineers huddled behind the makeshift

barriers. The corridor was flashing red and was filled with smoke, the

constant rocking from impacts of the battle waging outside went unnoticed

as the team held the unfamiliar weapons tight into their shoulders.

Specialist Annie Edgars' glanced up from her detonators at the ODA

Commander giving out instructions; he was apparently a Marine Captain

but was in civilian clothing along with the other four ODA Operators that

were on leave on the station. But Edgar's was more than happy to have

the heavily armed Operators on board after the Security department

had been effectively destroyed by the Romulan Commandos.

The Romulan fleet had completely blindsided the Star base when

it had decloaked, as there were no reports of trouble anywhere in

the local region the weapons and shields were powered down, and

all fighters and support craft were docked. The first volley of torpedoes

and disruptor beams were aimed took out Main Operations, Engineering

and in a brutal display, Sickbay. In under a minute the station had

lost all of the command staff, most of the medical department and

the chief engineer. The only reason that the station had been wiped

off the face of the universe was the quick reactions the Assistant Chief

Engineer - who had been had been getting some lunch at the time of

the attack - to reroute weapons, shields and life support though

secondary systems that the station was putting up anytime at all. But they

were still under powered and tacking a betting, so the officer of the

watch had order the shields boosted to critical areas and taken offline

in not critical areas, the brave call gave the station more of a chance of

surviving the bombardment but also meant that they had Romulan assault

team running around left right and centre.

The ODA Commander glanced down at his Padd and then

looked at Edgars, "specialist, are those charges ready?"

Annie Edgars was shaking and her mouth was dry, but she managed to

let out a "Yes Sir."

****

"Good job" Said Michael McKnight giving the specialist a reassuring smile.

Not that it was going to matter. The stations security were overstretched

and although groups of engineers, scientists and technicians were putting

up brave fights it was only a matter of time before they were over run.

There had actually been a Commander on leave for the Missouri in

charge of this defense but when the Romulans had stated attacking in

force he had order everyone to retreat and abandon the station. retreat to

were exactly? Michael had hated spilling that cowards blood, but he

doubted he would make it out of this situation for any investigation to

take place, Colonel Walsh would have understood and so did the

Engineers who did not run. They understood.

So did that Engineering specialist, Michael could tell that she would have

been a good trooper. Michael had told her to rig up some C-9 charges

along the corridor but she seemed to be able to do better than that. She had

strapped packets of self-sealing stem bolts to the charges creating a very

nasty anti personnel mine.

Everyone held there breathe as a platoon strength of Romulans rounded

the corner into view… "do it" whispered Michael from behind the

barrier to the red-haired specialist and at those words the corridor erupted

into a storm of fire and metal, the blast was so large that it sucked the

breath out of the defenders lungs and pushed back their barriers several

meters. When Michael glanced up their was not a single complete body,

it looked like the Romulan platoon had been put through a meat grinder,

two Engineers could not stomach the sight, and Michael himself felt the

blood rush from his face.

"Hell, I haven't been anything that gruesome since fighting the X'chi." Said

the Warrant Officer Ra'nar.

"Diess" said Sergeant David Hackworth followed by "Barwhan was

grisly," said the Vulcan technician, Tulosana McKnight.

Michael just nodded before leaping out behind the barrier and running

crouched down towards the most whole Romulan body. He unclipped

a Photon Grenade from his body armour placed it on the corpse

before triple tapping the combadge before arming the grenade. The

body beamed away, back to the ship that the fallen Commando

belonged to and exploded when it arrived. It was a brutal tactic that

had been used by "Ground Ponders" during the Dominion War to

great effect, inflected psychological damage more than anything else.

Michael was running back to the make shift defense when a hail of fire

erupted behind him, he did not need to turn back to realize that there was

another Romulan group behind him. The Engineers and ODA Operators

popped up behind the barrier to give covering fire, Michael tossed

another grenade over his shoulder and dived over the barrier to safety. He

had landed next to his fellow ODA Operator Ra'nar and in a moment of

stress relief they both glanced at each other and let out a huge belly laugh.

They were still laughing when a Romulan Grenade landing in-between

them and exploded.

[USS Chimera] SD 240810.30 Joint Log, Cmdr Summers (1TF Med) & 1Lt T'Vel (AMO)

= USS Chimera - Cargo Bay 6 =

T'Vel was in the process of moving a mobile biobed against
the wall when the ship rocked heavily and the lights went
off. The bed - which utilised an antigrav emitter to hover
above the ground - slid slightly towards the left and the
Vulcan AMO heard a short yelp of pain as the bed bumped
against a nurse.

"Are you hurt, crewman?" T'Vel asked as she pressed the
stabiliser button on the bed which caused it to stay in
place.

"No ma'am, I'm fine, it's just a bruise," the young nurse
replied.

Satisfied that she did not dismember one of her staff, T'Vel
turned around and said loudly, "Attention, please. It
appears that we have a power malfunction and that emergency
power has been activated. Please remain calm. I will attempt
to find a solution to our problem and return shortly. Ensign
McKay, you are in charge. Please inform Sickbay of our
situation."

"Yes ma'am," he answered as the medical staff began to light
plasma lanterns, somewhat lifting the dark gloom in the
cargo bay.

A few minutes later, T'Vel found the corridors empty as she
shone the torchlight ahead of herself. Her left hand stayed
close to the phaser that was strapped to her belt, just in
case she met someone she didn't want to. As the corridor
ahead turned slightly, she saw a light ahead and came to an
intersection where the power was on. It was the section of
the deck where the emergency quarters were located and she
assumed that a coupling relaying power to the cargo bay must
have malfunctioned.

Stepping into the light, she raised her hand to tap her
commbadge and contact Engineering but stopped midway as her
sharp Vulcan auditory sense picked up a footstep down the
corridor to her right. Instinctively she moved to her left
and drew her phaser, not a moment too soon because a beam of
disruptor fire cut through the air where she had been
standing a mere second ago.

The former Marine field medic aimed her phaser and fired at
the masked black figures that appeared around the corner.
She ducked into a doorway and tapped her commbadge, "T'Vel
to Security. Intruder alert." She tapped at the controls on
the door to open it and ducked into the empty quarters.

As soon as she was inside, she sealed the doors with her
security code and quickly searched the room for a Jefferies
access hatch. Finding one beneath the built-in desk against
the wall, she pulled the chair that stood in front of it
forward and removed the hatch. Getting inside, she moved the
chair back into position before shutting the hatch.

= Elsewhere

As soon as she could, Rangi left the Task Force Sickbay,
placing Scott Fisher in charge in her absence. She headed
for the emergency quarters on Deck 20 where the emergency
quarters would now become the replacement for the unusable
cargo bay. It was far from ideal, Rangi told herself, for
the cargo bay was designed to act as a temporary sickbay and
though the emergency quarters held basic medical aids, they
were far from perfect. She wondered how much, if any,
equipment had been salvaged.

The sound of launching weapons could be heard almost
continuously as well as dull thuds that registered hits from
the opposition. Rangi tried to ignore it and also the
gnawing feeling that told her she should be caring for
Martin and not stumbling along a corridor filled with wisps
of smoke.

"Commander," a voice said behind Rangi.

Rangi came to an abrupt stop, shocked at hearing a voice for
the corridor was empty and she had seen noone since she
entered it. She looked back quickly only to see T'Vel
emerging somewhat ungracefully from a Jefferies tube.
"T'Vel! " she exclaimed in surprise.

"I did not mean to startle you," T'Vel said as she climbed
out of the hatch and replaced it. Getting up, she quickly
straightened herself. "I encountered a group of Romulan
soldiers not far from here. We must hurry."

"They've boarded? " Rangi asked already raising her hand to
the phaser strapped near her waist. She adjusted it,
altering the settings to 'kill'. There would be no stunning.
"I wasn't aware of that." she said as the ship lurched to
the right. She steadied herself against the wall.

"Neither was I," the AMO responded. "Until now. I have
informed Ensign McKay in Cargo Bay 6, but I do not believe
there is much they can do to defend themselves. It would not
be logical for us to attempt to return there."

Rangi looked past T'Vel, thinking that she would never
become accustomed to the calm way in which Vulcans stated
facts, however joyuous or ghastly they were.
It was true ofcourse. The Romulans would annihilate the
patients and medical staff alike. They would be taken
totally by surprise and have little time to respond. Quite
possibly they were already dead.

"How many are there?" she asked, remeeting T'vels steady
gaze.

"Thirty," T'Vel replied. "Perhaps the Romulans do not find
them."

Rangi shook her head against the thought. "ok...well....we
have to..act."
It was a pointless thing to say when she was at a loss as to
what to do for the best. They had no idea how many Romulans
were abaord nor yet where they were.

"Its pointless heading to the task force decks as they will
be under lockdown...and the Romulans will certainly be
heading for the bridge."

{Martin} her inner self cried and she looked at T'Vel.

Without warning the ship shook violently, throwing the two
women off their feet. They landed unceremoniously on the
floor as a ventilation tube exploded above them, spewing
toxic fumes meant for recycling into the corridor below. On
both ends of the corridor they were in, the nearest
bulkheads immediately started to close, effectively locking
them in.

Both scrambled to their feet, bruised but not hurt though it
took only moments before the fumes began to affect them.
"I there." Rangi choked, pointing to the small door that
T'Vel had emerged through a few minutes before. Her eyes
were beginning to sting and she cupped her hands over her
nose and mouth.

T'Vel quickly removed the hatch from the way she had
arrived, holding it aside for Rangi to enter. Getting
inside, she closed the hatch and looked at the commander in
the dim light. There were two ways to go... back the way she
had come from, and down. "I suggest we go down, Commander."

Rangi nodded, taking a gasp of fresher air.
