***Lunar Shrine, Trill***

Anya paced in her Grandmother's study a little irritated by
the wait all be it all of ten minutes.  Her irritation stemmed
not only from the  fact that she was made to wait...that
she could deal with, she had been in the military long
enough for that.  The fact that they had decided what
she was wearing was somehow inappropriate for her
grandmother was probably the most annoying thing.
Jeans, a vest top and a leather jacket was hardly an
unpresentable appearance if you weren't due in court
or going for a job interview.  However neither of those
scenarios was the one she was here for therefor she
objected to being dressed in a white dress with a
sweetheart neckline especially when she didn't have
anything in the way of cleavage going for her.

Outside the storm beat mercilessly upon the windows
of the shrine, the fury of it was impressive.  Unlike most
pilots Anya thought it would be pretty fun to fly in it,
then again Anya was the only member of the Stormriders
surviving or otherwise who had enjoyed the challenge.
The noise of the door opening behind her caused her to
turn.  Her grandmother entered with a smile "Anya it's
good to see you again.  I see you suit the Ceremonial Garb."

"Although according to your subordinate not much of a
surprise as you were expecting me before I made up my
mind to come here...and what is with the dress?  Was
what I was wearing somehow not good enough for
meeting you in?"  Anya said impatiently.

Lilliana gave her own version of the young priestess's
knowing smile.  "You didn't come here just by your own
volition.  You were summoned.  And the Ceremonial
Garb isn't to impress me it's to impress the one who
called you here, the one who I've served all of my
life as my mother before me and her mother before
her, as did my daughter, your mother Rena.  The
Goddess of Storms herself, the Goddess Hypiri."

Without further words Lilliana turned and led the
way through the wide corridors of the shrine out
to the open air shrine which despite the raging of the
storm remained an area of serene calm untroubled
by the sheets of rain, savage winds and forks of
lightning.  At her grandmother's urging Anya stepped
into the pool which separated the altar from the rest
of the shrine.  The cold water bit into her calves with the
white silk of her dress floating on the surface of the
water.

A figure appeared in front of her walking not in
the water but on it.  "Welcome Anya and Prophet.  I
have waited for ages the day when you would both
stand before me.  That such a day would signal the
coming of the great enemy is a regrettable necessity
we must both accept.  You are one of the tools
specially crafted over centuries for this war created
through our specialized breeding programme.  You
must be the vanguard for our forces before they
ever set foot on the path.  You are our intelligence
for the day the Karaf return to this universe in
numbers never seen.  To prepare you I give you a gift."

The Goddess touched Anya's forehead and Anya felt a
burst of pain unlike anything she had ever felt before.
Anya had been shot, stabbed, raped and tortured in her
life but nothing compared to this inescapable pain that
coursed through her body.  Through the pain an image
formed in her mind of a tree in winter bare of any leaves,
just an incredibly complex interweaving of branches,
sticks and twigs.  The image remained strong even as
her consciousness faded.

***RT Visarias, Deep Space***

Anya woke lying on a bed still in her white silk dress,
the rhythmic thrum of a warp core and the blurred
white lines of stars streaking past the windows told her
that she was on a ship at warp.

Still dazed she made her way to the bridge somehow
without falling on her ass several times.  Entering the
small bridge of the ship she said aloud to no one person
in particular.  "Where are we?"

One person turned around and Anya despite her state
recognized her as the young woman who initially met
her on Trill and yet now displayed none of the arrogance
she had earlier.  "We're on our way to Starbase Unity,
Priestess."

[ Earth - London ]

It was a gloomy day in the countryside near London, with thin rain falling softly from the grey skies. Natalia and Fr'r'n sat next to each other on a window seat in the Cranfield Center's large sitting room, watching the drizzle on the glass pane. This was her third and last visit with him and she'd hoped they could spend some time outside, but the weather wouldn't allow it. He'd improved much in the last few days and was now able to walk slowly with the help of hydraulic crutches.

Fr'r'n's doctors had told her that if his current improvement was anything to go by, he should be fully mobile within the next six weeks. It was good news and gave her hope that he would fully recover. But more so than his physical improvement, it seemed his faculties were strengthening just as well. His speech was normal again and, although there were still a few blurry patches, his memory was returning and he remembered most things except the few weeks that led up to his injuries. In fact, he hadn't been aware of the war with the Romulans at all until Natalia had mentioned it.

When she told him the Chimera-B had been destroyed in the Battle of Aeran, he seemed to get somewhat uncomfortable and shifted on the seat. "We have a brand new ship now," Natalia continued. "Century class, state of the art. It's much smaller than the Chimera class, but more suitable for battle. The Task Force HQ has also moved to Starbase Unity."

Fr'r'n nodded slowly as he listened. "That's the old Starbase 234?"

"Yes," Natalia smiled, glad that he remembered the small details. "It's been almost completely refitted and is now an important strategic center."

"That's good," he replied and then glanced back outside the window.

Since she wasn't going to see him again for a while, Natalia decided to seize the moment to talk to him about his future. "The doctors say you're recovering very well, and might even be released in as early as two months."

"Good news," Fr'r'n said, though he didn't look particularly happy about it. "I asked them when I'd be able to return to duty, but they can't give me a concrete answer."

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about," she continued. "When you're released... I assume you're not planning on going back to Xenex?"

He shook his head firmly. "No. I haven't been back there for a long time. In fact I don't really plan on going back."

"Starfleet has many rehabilitation programs, and I'm sure there's one that will be suitable for you, that you'll feel comfortable with," she said. "But, if you want, you can come to Unity when you're released. There are many capable doctors there who can help in your recovery, Aeran III is a beautiful planet with lots of fresh air... and maybe you'd like having some familiar faces around?"

Fr'r'n nodded. What she said made sense. His sense of pride didn't particularly want the people he used to work with to see him like this, but by the time he was released he would hopefully be in much better condition. Besides, what was the alternative? He looked at Natalia and knew she cared for him. The words had never been spoken out loud, but her actions said more than enough. Why else would she come all this way to see him?

"I think I'd like that," he finally answered.

Happy with his answer, Natalia sat with him a while longer until finally she had to force herself to leave. "It's time for me to go," she said as he stood up. Fr'r'n nodded and used his crutches to help himself up and they walked slowly towards the entrance of the center. "I'll keep in touch and come visit as soon as I can, but I'm sure you'll be out of this place before then."

"I can dream," he grinned as they came to the door. Out of his own he leaned forward to give her a hug, which she didn't expect. It was a feeble gesture of thanks for all she'd done, he felt, but he hoped that one day he could give her something more in return.

"Goodbye, Fr'r'n," Natalia said as she finally pulled back from his embrace. "I'll see you again soon. Promise."

[ Starbase UNITY – Main Promenade ]

Gustav was getting ready to go out for the night, it was is day off tomorrow so he decided to have some drinks at one of the many bars around the station, he also needed to relax a little after one of his engineers almost blew up the ship and finally finishing Anya's missile order, normally he would have gone out with Mimi but she was having a girly night out with some of her friends.

Inside one of the pubs at the edge of the promenade, Bren sat at the bar nursing a tall glass of beer. The glass was half-empty, similar to his current state of mind. It was also his second and he planned to order another as soon as this one was finished. He looked up to see a vaguely familiar face enter the pub and approach the bar.

Gustav walked up to the bar at the Wrench Bench and ordered a pint of vintage ale from earth called McEwans 70 shilling, a brown ale with a pleasant nutty taste and hoppy after taste.

After receiving his pint Gustav looked around the bar for any familiar faces when he saw Cmdr Bren Ohmsford sitting at the bar looking a little down, he decided to join him so approached the officer.

Bren frowned for a minute and then he remembered who it was... the Chimera's Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Kroitzer. Very talented young officer, but with a tendency to attract unfortunate accidents.

"Lieutenant Kroitzer, is it?" Bren asked him.

"Aye sir it is, may I join you?" he asked.

"Of course," Bren nodded and indicated the empty barstool next to him. "Please, take a seat. Are you enjoying your R&R so far?"

"I've found it…. Stressful" Gustav replied.

"And how are things in Chimera's engineering department?" Bren asked as he raised his glass to his lips.

"First I had to help with the Biological weapons on the way back to the station then one of my engineers almost blew up the ship and station… which was fantastic as you can imagine," he said with more than a slight hint of sarcasm although it wasn't directed at anyone.

Bren chuckled slightly, "I heard about that incident. I can imagine you wouldn't have been in Commodore Guzman's good books."

"I suppose not but I don't think he would have much to say after wards as he would be vaporised, although I did enjoy my time hull walking on the Magellan," he said truthfully.

"You did a good job on the Rapier as well," Bren commended Gustav. "If it weren't for you we might not have been able to salvage her."

"Thanks but it was a team effort Sir" he replied.

"What would an engineer be without his team, eh?" Bren said as he raised his glass to Gustav.

Gustav raised his glass to Bren's and said "Cheers".

[ Two or three hours later ]

Bren let out a raucous laugh at the joke told by one of the engineers sitting on the other side of him at the bar. The Wrench Bench was a typical hang-out for engineers and as a result the clientele were a little more colourful than one might find in other establishments on the promenade.

"That was quite funny," Bren commented, still laughing... although some part of him was sure if he was sober he probably wouldn't be laughing so hard. "Don't you think, Kroitzer?"

When Bren asked him that Gustav happened to be on the floor laughing, after he had calmed down and stood back up and sat down on his bar stool, and replied "yeh I found it quite funny".

"Klingons have a lot of redundant organs, I'm not sure about the balls though," Bren laughed a little too hard, finding himself very funny all of a sudden. "Another beer please?" he asked the barman who gave him a frown.

Just as Gustav picked up his pint he felt a push from behind him that made him spill it down himself and over the bartender, he stood up and faced the man that had pushed him, it turned out that the man in question was one of UNITY's bomber pilots trying to get to the bar.

"He's going to need another one," Bren whispered loudly to the bartender and then watched Gustav closely as he stood in front of the pilot.

"I think you owe me an apology," Gustav said to the pilot.

The man squared up to Gustav, standing at 6' 3" he was only 2 inches taller than Kroitzer but he replied "Or what shorty". Gustav smiled and looked away slightly then looked directly at him in the eye and said "Or this" then he reared his head back and accelerated it quickly towards the pilot in front of him hitting him square in to nose causing it to explode in a bloody mess.

"Whoa, that was cool!" Bren muttered, not aware that he was thinking out loud. "Oh, careful, he's coming—"

The pilot recovered himself and threw a punch at Gustav that landed on his chin dazing him for a few seconds, in that time the pilots pals joined the fight, one of them starting on Bren.

The pilot pushed Bren against the shoulder and he had to grab the bar to steady himself. A sudden rush of adrenalin filled him and he jumped off the stool. Being 6'3" himself, he towered above the shorter pilot who seem to have a momentary flicker of doubt. But a moment later - after being sized up and measured and apparently found having decidedly more body fat than muscle - the pilot's right fist neatly connected with his left eye.

Gustav had two pilots throwing punches at him now but thanks to his artificial arm he was able to hold his own quite well with his one punch being about the equivalent to the blow from a pile driver or at least feeling like it.

Caught slightly by surprise, Bren ducked just in time to miss the second punch and rammed his left shoulder into the pilots chest, sending both of them into a table, scattering a trio of female engineers that had been trying to mind their own business.

Kroitzer had managed to knock the two men that had started down and was catching his breath when another pilot had struck him on the back of the head knocking Gustav down on top of the two men he had knocked down himself.

Bren noticed the man he'd plowed into the table wasn't getting back up, so he quickly pulled himself up and grabbed at the pilot that was having a go at Gustav, pulling him off and shoving him into the bar.

As Gustav was getting himself back up the Starbases security teams arrived to break up the fight and take everyone involved to the base's brig.

[ SB Unity - Infirmary ]

Sally moved so quickly that Mercedes had to trot ahead to follow her. "Would he have time?" she asked, hurrying along. "He's not seeing anyone, is he?" Mercedes realised too late how that must have sounded and Sally was already off on a tangent.

At Mercedes questions, Sally had looked back over her shoulder, narrowly missing a couple of nurses and a med technician walking towards her. She slowed her pace so that Mercedes could walk beside her, telling herself that she 'knew' she was right and that secretly Mercedes had come to ask about Scott Fisher and all the enquiries about Rangi had just been a cover.

"Well not seeing anyone particularly." she began, giving Mercedes an understanding smile. "After you left he seemed very glum and not at all like himself. It was very sad really because he's always the one to cheer everyone else up with a joke or two but all that stopped and I said to Hazel, 'Hazel' I said 'Don't you think its sad about Dr Fisher?' and she agreed with me and we thought he must be pining for you but after a while he seemed to cheer up again I expect he was just being stoic." Sally paused for breath which wasn't long enough for
Mercedes to say anything.

"He hasn't been seeing anyone seriously though he did take Clara Lloyd out a couple of times but I must say that I don't see why men find her so attractive. You must have heard the saying 'no means maybe and maybe means yes and yes means you work in the Quartermaster's section of the promenade' but that's not true about all the girls there." She gave Mercedes a sideways glance that said everything else there was to say on the subject.

"I actually mean in his office..." Mercedes added slowly, but the afterthought was lost on Sally. She'd already divulged so much information; Mercedes didn't see the harm in getting a bit of clarity. "Clara Lloyd, you say? Do you think it's serious?"

"Hey!... look out!" a startled voice cried as its owner leapt out of the hover trolleys pathway.

"Ooops… sorry." Sally apologised to the startled crewman whose frown of annoyance soon gave way to her disarming smile. She watched him walk away then as they continued their journey said: "Oh no, nothing serious, That was just in his first flash of getting over a broken heart and trying to bury his misery with a facade of playing the field but it didn't fool us one
little bit. I said to Hazel… 'Hazel' I said 'you don't think he's falling for her 'charms' do you?" but it ended before it began because she met a trainee pilot Mick, Rick or Nick somebody or other who was much more her type." Sally gave Mercedes another glance that spoke volumes then gave a long exaggerated sigh.

"No… after that we would see him now and then in one bar or another all on his own nursing a glass drowning his sorrow and..."

And what exactly, Mercedes was not to know for they arrived at the AMO office and Sally said brightly: "Here we are then" and beamed at her companion.

Mercedes was beginning to feel a very slight pang of guilt after Sally's monologue tirade. She was, after all, the reason for Scott drowning his sorrows in a bar since the decision to leave had been hers, but it wasn't exactly easy on her either.

A yeoman came around the corner and approached the empty reception desk in front of Scott's office. She stopped when she saw Mercedes and Sally, looked at the plant, back at
Sally. "Hi Sally, is that plant for us?" and then asked Mercedes, "Are you looking for Doctor Fisher?"

"Yes, is he available?" Mercedes asked.

"I'm afraid you've just missed him," the yeoman said.

Sally could barely conceal her disappointment for she was sure that things would be warming up nicely if only these two could be alone together, even if it was in AMO's office.

"Is he likely to be back soon?" she enquired in an innocent tone.

"He should be back in about twenty minutes," the yeoman said with a smile.

"I can wait," Mercedes replied quickly. She really needed to see Scott and thought that waiting twenty minutes wouldn't be too bad.

Sally nodded agreement. "We can wait." she echoed. It was, she told herself, just as she had known all along for now it was obvious that Mercedes was desperate to renew her romance with the young AMO. "I'll just take this into his office then shall?" she asked and not waiting for a reply, steered the hover trolley around the desk and into the room, determined that she would be there at the moment of reunion for these star crossed lovers. "Want to give me a hand?" she said, glancing back at Mercedes with an encouraging look, for it wouldn't do now for Mercedes to change her mind and wander off somewhere.

"Why not," Mercedes smiled, although she wasn't particularly in the mood for moving plants. But she might as well make herself useful while they waited for Scott to come back.

With a happy expression, Sally manoeuvred the plant on its trolley into Scott's domain and looked around for a suitable spot.

[ SB Unity - Infirmary ]

Mercedes made her way into the Infirmary to see Scott. She'd
been putting it off for a few days, but there was no going around it. She had to see him because she needed to know when Rangi was coming back from her extended holiday. Moreover, she needed access to some medication that Scott needed to authorize for her.

The over sized plant seemed to be moving on its own, floating gracefully along the corridor a couple of inches
above the ground in a pleasing dull red flower pot.

"Coming through!" a disembodied voice called and the plant
made an almost right-angled turn, ricocheted off the corner, slowed to a stop, rushed forward then rebounded off the opposite wall. There was a thin scream and a simultaneous thud as the pot parted company with the hover trolley and came to an uncertain halt, its leaves bouncing in momentum and its only flower falling to the floor.

The driver of the hover trolley stood with her hands on her
hips, her blonde curls bobbing for a moment in time with the leaves and her usually pretty face clouded by a frown.

Mercedes looked astonished at the seemingly self-moving plant that had for the moment stopped being a safety hazard.
Then she saw Sally behind it and somehow wasn't too surprised.

"Sally," Mercedes smiled and stepped forward. "Doing a
little redecorating?"

"Huh?" Sally turned her head and recognizing Mercedes, the
frown disappeared. "Oh no!" she said, "Nothing like that." She glanced back at the plant. "I'm  taking this to the AMO's lounge just as a favour you know.." she looked back at Mercedes "...because I'm not a botanist really."

She giggled at her own joke and shook her head. "No no, perish the thought though I like flowers of course I do but I'm not much good at growing them but when Greenfly turned
up with a load of these and said he was running late because he's supposed to be playing in a basketball game and he really couldn't miss it because its the semifinal and they
stand a great chance of winning, I offered to take them for him." She gave Mercedes a questioning look.

"I mean, whats so difficult about taking a few plants around and dumping them off?" She shrugged her shoulders as she spoke. "Greenfly was so pathetically pleased when I offered and he told me where to take them and said there wouldn't be a problem and just to put the trolley back when I'd done it but somehow I seem to have one left," She eyed the plant
speculatively then frowned again "… and this thing didn't help either." she added, nudging the hover trolley with her foot.

The trolley wobbled a bit uncertainly for a second, the leaves of the plant dancing about. Mercedes opened her mouth to ask more about Greenfly, but then thought better of it.
"How are things here in the Infirmary?"

For a fraction of a second Sally tensed ready to leap forward should the plant fall forward but it stayed put so she smiled towards Mercedes and answered: "Well you know how it is what with the war and all we've been really overstretched at times and it didn't help when 'all' of the B team went down with that bug and we had to work double shifts for almost two weeks and what with one thing and another it was hard to say which way was up, whether we were coming or going or whether we were back to front !"

"I see," Mercedes replied, trying to seem interested. "That's rather... unfortunate." She decided to ask Sally about Rangi; if there's one person who'd know what was going
on, it would be Sally. She was often more up to speed than official channels.

Sally, who rarely paused for breath and leapt from one subject to another with often unnerving speed now changed topic entirely and leaning toward Mercedes, whispered so
softly that Mercedes too had to lean forward to hear.

"You want to know where the Commander is don't you?" she asked and gave a wink and a knowing nod.

Mercedes smiled. "If I didn't know any better I'd say you were a telepath. I need to speak to her about a couple of things, but there's no way of reaching her until she gets back."

"It's funny you should say that." Sally replied, standing straight again. "George often says that I know more about people than they do about themselves but it's only because I
can add two and two together. She's not here."

Mercedes nodded with a sigh. "That's pretty much what I expected. Do you have any idea when she'll return?"

"Sorry, no." Sally replied shaking her head sadly.

"All right," Mercedes replied. "Is Scott… I mean Dr Fisher available? Maybe he can help me."

"Oh yes… he's here." Sally replied regaining her spark but paused to eye Mercedes thoughtfully, for Sally was romantic at heart and the slightest hint of an attraction between
even the most platonic of friends rang the sound of wedding bells in Sally's mind. She smiled at Mercedes. "It's very nice that you're back again." she said meaningfully.

"Thank you, Sally," Mercedes smiled genuinely. "I'm not sure for how long I'll be here, but it's good to see familiar faces again."

"I wonder if he would like this." Sally said " but then again, he doesn't seem a very flowery type man does he not that that's a fault..." she added hastily , glancing at Mercedes and bent down to push the plant pot onto the centre of the hover trolley "… we can ask him anyway. Right, hold tight Sally!" she instructed herself and squeezing the control set off at a smart pace along the corridor although whether she was in charge of the trolley or it was of her was difficult to judge. "Deputy CMO's office is down here," she called over her shoulder.

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.24 || USS Detector || Duty Log || Captain Tedros Chisulo ||

[Ready Room - Deck One - USS Detector]

The trip back to Padassa was relatively uneventful for Captain Chisulo when compared to the action in the last few days. The Detector and Qashqai arrived, and met with Major Kinn, Captain Vishas, and the Klingon commander present at the station. After a brief meeting, it was decided that the Commodore and Major Kinn would stay behind with the Qashqai to negotiate control of the station, while the Detector would report back to UNITY to plan an assault.

Tedros Chisulo read over the various intelligence reports Kinn handed him before he left the station. Much of the data on the station's systems had been purged during the battle, but the HUMINT from the captive agents was very valuable. According to fleet movements Padassa was not the only station the Romulans held in Quorom space, and in fact there appeared to be a much stronger fortification deeper in an anomalous region. This base would have to be the primary target if the Taskforce had any hope of weakening the Romulan war effort in the region. But to plunge in headfirst would be foolhardy, Chisulo would have to devise a diversion. And maintaining a foothold in Padassa would be a high priority a well.

The Captain crossed over to the couch and laid down lengthwise across its expanse. He had given the Captain's Quarters aboard to Commander Summers and young Martin Guzman, deciding they deserved the privacy and co fort much more than he after their recent ordeal. He would settle for the minuscule couch in the Detector's Ready Room. He watched the stars stream by outside his window, imagining the countless conflicts occurring beyond. He wondered if it would ever end. Had he survived the Dominion War and the tortuous interrogations of the Vorta's only to die in this war?

He remembered back to the Battles for Aeran III and Charos VI when this war began. He reminisced about his mission to Narendra with Commander Kortag'h and Ambassador Ayanami where they captured a Muhareem and killed a Klingon General that was cooperating with the Romulans. He thought back to his counter attack at V'Tar, where the Romulans had decimated a colony with their Thalaron weapons.

The Romulans were more willing to be ruthless in this war, and that troubled Chisulo. Normally they would have captured V'Tar and forced the populace into labor camps, utilizing their services to further their war effort. But instead they wiped the population out in one massive genocidal attack, and didn't even deploy enough troops to commandeer the colonies resources.

The attack didn't make strategic sense. Sure, it hurt Federation efforts int he area, but it didn't take advantage of the potential gains to the Romulan's effort. It felt more like retribution, an act of vengeance; but what sort of justice would the Romulan's be seeking against a traditionally pacifist vulcan colony near the border? V'Tar had been in many occasions against the increase in Federation patrol presence along the neutral zone before the war. If anything, the Romulans should be grateful to the colony, Chisulo would think.

His deliberations were disturbed by the chiming of his computer. An incoming message had arrived.

He crossed the room to the terminal and accessed his inbox. Ambassador Ayanami, Brigadier General Sharpe, and Captain Rodgers had all agreed to his request for an audience upon the Detector's arrival at Unity. Now all he needed to do was finalize his plans of assault before their arrival. Sleep, he decided, could wait. He would have his proposal ready upon arrival.

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.23 || JL || Harker Debriefing ||

[Deck One - USS Qashqai]

The blue haze of the transporters confinement beam loosed its hold on Tedros Chisulo and Rangi Summers. They stepped off the platform of the Qashqai First Transporter Room in the at section of deck one and were greeted by the Marine guard sent to escort them to the meeting. The meandered down the narrow, utilitarian hallway to the Bridge where Commodore Guzman and their new Romulan friend were already gathered at the rear section of the room.

It was all happening so quickly or at least that's how it seemed to Rangi. From the long hours of  captivity to the nail biting situation on the Bridge, from the agonizing wait to know if Shane and Martin were safe and now she and Chisulo were walking along a corridor aboard Qashqai almost as though it was the most natural thing in the world. She longed to see Martin even though she knew he was safe here somewhere but as the door slid open Shane looked up and their eyes met.

There was no romantic reunion, no running across the room to fall into his waiting arms, no endearments, no tender moment, in fact nothing at all that could give an inkling of how much the moment held for them both. The guard stood aside and Rangi preceded Chisulo into the room and with the softest of smile she said simply: "Commodore"

"Commodore Guzman," Chisulo snapped a quick salute, "it is good to see you, sir."

Shane nodded towards Chisulo and said: "The pleasure is all mine, Captain. I must say that seldom was an unannounced guest such a positive surprise like in your case". Turning to Rangi, he said: "Commander, I am very glad to see you safe and sound again. Martin is here as well and we shall see him as soon as this meeting is over".

Besides the Romulan Sub-Commander all were aware of the romantic relationship between Rangi and Shane, but while on duty and in public, Shane always maintained a formal "facade" while talking to Rangi. It would not fit very well when the Task Force CO and Task Force Medical Advisor would kiss passionately on Qashqai's bridge. Maybe later.

A defiant class ship was not properly fitted for diplomatic meetings of any kind, since it was a Spartan build war ship – even if officially labeled as escort ship. Qashqai was an exception here, since it was the personal ship of the 1st Task Force CO and it was expected that diplomacy and politics will play a considerable role in the day-to-day duty of such a flag officer. Therefore Qashqai was slightly modified towards a more comfortable vessel prepared for private talks and small size diplomatic meetings. There was a conference room adjacent to the bridge, about the size of a senior officer's quarters on a galaxy class ship.

Shane motioned the small gathering to follow him and said: "Let's please go to the conference room".

Chisulo and the Romulan allowed Rangi to go first and she took a place opposite Shane, eyeing him as he stood patiently waiting for them all to be seated, assessing the spectacular bruise on his jaw and what was obviously a very painful blackening eye.

[ Conference Room - Deck One ]

Maintaining the usual hospitality of Starfleet ships, there was a replicator in the conference room and Shane offered his guests drinks and refreshment.

"Just an apple juice please. " Rangi said when he looked in her direction, knowing that he would have guessed her choice.

Gathering the 'orders', Shane went over to replicate the requested drinks while the others found their seats behind the large red wooden table. Placing cups in front of respective officers, Shane made it to the head of the table
and seated himself as well.

"Well" Shane started, "through I am very glad that you are here Captain Chisulo, maybe you would like to enlighten me why are you here and how it happens that Commander Summers is with you"

"Yes sir." Chisulo nodded, and set his mug of coffee on the tabletop. "Major Kinn, while reviewing the data gathered by Commander Terek, linked Rangi and Martin's disappearance to the disappearance of dozens of Federation Agents in Romulan territory. When Commander Summer's message was transmitted from Padassa Station, she asked Captain Rodgers to postpone relaying the coordinates to you so that he could relay her
suspicions to the XO and myself. At that meting we agreed that the Qashai would be outmatched, and that reinforcements should be deployed to ensure the success of the operation. We also wanted to have the best chance of success in the rescue of Rangi, Martin, and the Federation agents; and so the Detector - with one of the best cloaking devices in the fleet - was outfitted with transphasic torpedoes, procured under my request, and deployed."

Shane nodded: "We will talk about the delay of information from Terek later. Why did you not bring Major Kinn here as well?" he asked.

"Major Kinn is on Padassa Station now." Chisulo replied. "She decided to remain aboard with members of our infiltration team and take it from Romulan hands. Three Klingon warships were currently inbound to ward of the
Romulan presence, and we called for reinforcements from UNITY on our way to rendezvous with you, Commodore. There were Klingon and Erassian agents held captive on the station as well."

Shane sighed: "I see". After a pause he continued: "Personally I am very glad for what you did, but as a Commodore I am not that happy now. We have now some minor forces here and on the way and know nothing about the power of Romulan forces in this sector. There could be a Romulan fleet be already on the way here and crush us all within half an hour." Turning to the Romulan Sub-Commander he said: "Unless our Romulan friend can tell us more about Romulan forces around … "

"The Romulans are currently focusing the bulk of their fleet elsewhere," Cevalas replied frankly. "Especially along the Klingon border and in the Rios system along the Erassian border. I also have it on good authority that they have sent a fair amount of forces to Breen space. While the loss of Padassa is great to them, they have more important installations throughout Quorum space and will not dare leave them unguarded. Still, the station contains crucial intelligence that they do not want to fall into the wrong hands."

"So … you think we could hold Padassa and this sector?" Shane asked.

"For the time being, yes," the Sub-Commander replied. "But the Tal'Shiar will no doubt have some offensive in mind. I would be careful around the station itself; there could be hidden security measures in place in case of the station being captured."

Turning to Chisulo, Shane asked: "What forces have we ready to arrive here within 24 hours?"

"The Hindenberg, Valiant, Amalthea and Akira are all on stand-by at UNITY." Chisulo replied. "The Savikra and the Exeter are on patrol along the Klingon-Romulan border and should be able to get here quickly, if given the order."

"We need ground troops … many ground troops if we want to attempt such a major operation. Luckily I know that SSF Command is dispatching a full Marine Expeditionary Force for the needs of the current war. MEF Command will be located on UNITY and formally it will fall under 1st Task Force Command. The MEF Commander along with good a third of his all force should arrive @ UNITY today, so we could use his unit to support our offensive"

"I can contact Captain Rodgers back on UNITY and make our request." Chisulo nodded.

Shane nodded: "Of course. We need to talk about this in more detail. As for now, we shall head back to Passada and see how the situation is there." Shane turned to Chisulo and said: "Captain, get in touch with UNITY and start planning the offensive." Turning to the Romulan he said: "You please, contact all those wanting to put an end to the Romulan occupation. We shall talk about native forces once we arrive at Passada, and about your role with Harker as well"

"Of course," Cevalas nodded. "The Quorum don't have many resources, but will send what they have to help secure the system. The Anx Rebel Alliance, of which I am a member, have also put key elements into play to help ensure that the system does not fall back into the hands of the Romulans. The Quorum are a peaceful people, but they've grown weary of the Empire subjugating their people."

Shane nodded and said: "You're dismissed". As all of the other officers stood from their seats, Shane said: "Commander Summers, please stay here."

[ Padassa Station ]

Just as she'd finished her conversation with Captain Vishas and was about to continue to explain to the Klingon in front of her what exactly had happened on the station, she was once again interrupted.

"What is it now, Corporal Waters?" she exhaled, her cat-like eyes burning a bright amber as she looked at him.

"One of the teams discovered a cryogenic bay in the lower decks, Major," he replied coolly, not intimidated by her. "I think you would like to see for yourself what they found."

"All right, Corporal," Giella agreed. "Are internal transporters operational yet?"

"Yes, ma'am," he said, stepping to a nearby terminal. "I'll lock on to your signal and transport you there."

Giella nodded. "Do so," she said as she stood a few paces away from him. A moment later she was engulfed by the station's transporter and deposited in the much more technologically advanced lower decks of the station.

"Major," a marine standing in front of her greeted her with a nod. "Please come this way."

Following the man, Giella noticed she was in a part of the station she hadn't been before, though it looked similar to the area they'd been before where she'd discovered Commander Summers. They passed through an open doorway into a circular room where oval shape alcoves were arranged next to each other into the bare utilitarian walls. Inside the alcoves were cryogenic pods with vague humanoid silhouettes that shone through the transparent domes of the pods.

In the center of the room was a pedestal console, containing seperate monitors for each of the pods. Giella walked towards it and looked at the monitors in turn, reading the Romulan text. The screens displayed biomedical details about their occupants, including name, species, cause of death and a series of complex memory engram maps. She stopped when she passed the fourth monitor, peering closely at it and reading through the details.

"Release pods four and five," she said to the marine standing next to her."

"Yes, ma'am," he nodded brusquely and walked over to the wall, accessing the controls to each of the pods. The two chambers were hoisted out of their alcoves by a mechanical arm and brought down parallel to the ground.

Giella walked over to them and tapped at a control on the first pod. The semi-opaque glass cleared slightly to reveal the face of the person inside the pod and Giella's expression was a mixture of confusion and concern. She turned to the next and did the same, waiting for the glass to clear as it reveal the face of the person inside.

It didn't make sense whatsoever as she crossed her arms over her chest, looked back and forth between the dead bodies of Nicolas Harker and Samantha Palmer.

====== END OF TRANSMISSION ======

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.23 || CO Log || Capt Rojac ||

[ Ready Room - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C ]

The first reports from Padassa Station began streaming in from Quorom Space just over an hour ago. Cropa found himself glued to every one.

His Yeoman, Specialist Bio, notified him of the incoming transmissions over dinner with Rayna. He told her to finish without him, and signaled the Bolian waiter to place the bill on his account. Then he made his way to Docking pylon C, passed the security checkpoint, and to his officer on Deck One of the battleship.

The first report he read detailed Captain Vishas' report on his arrival to to Padassa Station aboard the MacArthur. His flotilla was able to subdue all Romulan forces with the aide of the Klingons who were already present. His team focused fire on the Romulan's shield generators, leaving the hulls for the Klingon's disruptor cannons. The battle lasted little over half an hour.

The station itself, according to reports, had already been freed. Major Kinn's infiltration team - dropped off by the Detector - had successfully freed all Federation, Klingon, and Erassian prisoners aboard the station. They had subdued all occupying forces just before Vishas' flotilla arrived, but weren't able to participate in the battle due to damage to the station's defenses. There was no word as of yet on the whereabouts of the Detector.

But the most interesting reports were not the ones detailing the assault in Quorom space. The most interesting reports were coming in from the agents long held captive there. Cropa still held his SFI clearance from when he served as XO and Acting CO on the Dark Horizon project a few years back; with that clearance he was able to read the reports as they came in, bypassing the heavily censored versions that would be forwarded to SSF captain's later in the day.

Having just escaping long bouts of solitary confinement and harsh interrogations techniques, many of the report came across as crazed, over the top, and loopy. It was understandable due to the harsh conditions these servants of Starfleet had to endure. But there were several stark similarities in many of the reports. Many mentioned seeing aliens who closely resembled the mysterious Muhareem in their descriptions just before their capture. Many were captured in their small freighters as they traveled deep into Romulan and Quorom territory - but not before noting the locations of several Romulan bases and supply depots.

In Padassa, Starfleet had stumbled across and Intelligence jackpot. Not only did they now have the locations of key bases and staging areas for Romulan actions against Federation, Klingon, and Erassian territories - but they also had key intelligence detailing Romulan Wartime strategies. With this information, the Federation and her allies could take the battle to the Romulans; and Rojac was more than willing to lead the charge.

After several hours of reading, Cropa finally left the soft cushions of his chair and approached the full length viewport alongside the bulkhead of his Ready Room wall. He looked out past the gleaming hull of Starbase 234 to the swirling white clouds in the atmosphere of Aeran III beyond.

The chime sounded.

"Come." Cropa said, allowing the door to whisk aside and the visitor to enter. Cropa didn't need to turn to see who it was, he could see Rayna's reflection in the transparent duranium of his viewport.

"How long do we have?" She asked. She crossed the room to the pair of chairs in front of the Captain's desk and took a seat.

"Not long." Cropa replied, not turning to face her. "Starfleet won't sit on it's hands for long with information this valuable. I expect to be moving within a week."

Rayna took a deep breath and nodded. She crossed her arms and leaned forward in her chair. "This time I get the feeling we won't be skirting the boundaries of enemy lines, but diving right past them."

Cropa allowed himself to smirk at that. He turned to face his Chief Helm officer, "And it's about damned time too."

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.22 || Padassa Log || Major Kinn ||

[Padassa Station]

The sovereign class USS MacArthur, the akira class USS Patton, and the defiant class USS Bonaparte of Admiral LeGrand's fleet dropped out of warp at Padassa station with the phasers charged on full. They arrived to find themselves in the middle of a heated exchange already occurring between Klingon and Romulan forces.

"Three Klingon vessels engaging five Romulan targets!" The bolian science chief called to the Captain of the MacArthur - an elderly andorian gentleman named Vishas.

Vishas' antennae piqued in interest as he surveyed the scene unfolding on the viewscreen. "Take us on a course bearing 050 mark 045. Half impulse. Arm dorsal phasers - narrow beam. Target shield generators." Vishas ordered. "If we can bring down their shields our Klingon friend's disruptors will be all the more deadly."

"Aye!" Tactical confirmed the orders, and forwarded his captain's commands to the rest of the flotilla.

"Comm, get Major Kinn on the line." Vishas said.

-

Major Giellera Kinn was standing in the Operations Center of the trading station, arguing heatedly with a Klingon male almost twice her size. The station had been almost fully secured from the Romulans with the help of the prisoners, the newly arrived Klingons and the Quorum-based Anx Rebel Alliance that had covertly infiltrated the station.

Aside from a few sabotage attempts here and there (including the last minute destruction of two of the three docking pylons by Harker's remaining followers), they had succeeded in taking the station from Romulan hands. Now with all hope the Klingon cruisers would be able to keep it that way until more reinforcements could arrive.

"Major, a task group of three Federation ships just dropped into the system," Corporal Waters interrupted her. "The Captain of the MacArthur wants to speak to you."

"One minute," she said firmly to the Klingon in front of her, who seemed less than pleased. She followed Waters to the terminal where the audio transmission was being relayed. "Captain, Major Kinn here. It's good to speak to you."

+Good to hear from you too, Major. What news do you have?+ Kinn could here the busied sounds of a bridge engaged in combat operations on the other end of the line.

"There are a few hostiles still loose on the station, but we've taken it from the Romulans," she reported. "We have full control."

+Excellent.+ Vishas replied. +How are the station's tactical systems? Are they operational?+

"The shields are holding, but I'm afraid the Romulans have managed to sabotage the weapons systems," Giellera replied, looking back at a station where a group of people were frantically trying to sort out the weapons program. "I have some people working on it, but I can't guarantee anything."

+Do your bet, Major. Vishas out.+

"Aye, sir," Kinn replied, but the comm was already closed. Relieved that reinforcements had arrived, she turned back to her Klingon friend.

-

Vishas tapped on his armrest a set of target parameters, and forwarded them to tactical. "Forward these coordinates to the flotilla and fire on my command. The Andorian told the tactical officer. "And send it to the Klingons as well."

"Aye sir." The officer answered. "The fleet is acknowledging."

"Fire!"

The battle didn't last long. One by one, the Federation ships tore down he shields of their Romulan opponents - opening them to a deadly disruptor barrage from their Klingon counterparts. Working in tandem, the Klingon forces and the Federations ships eaily outmaneuvered the Romulan occupiers of Paddassa station. Within half an hour, Padassa was in allied hands.

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.21 | Arrival Log | BGen. Richard Sharpe

=/\= Transport ‘Eleanor’ – En route to Starbase Unity =/\=

Richard found himself admiring, not for the first time, his new SSF uniform in the full length mirror his tiny stateroom afforded him. He was wearing a variant of the command uniform, specifically for flag ranked marine officers. Instead of the usual red shoulders, his had dark grey, as would all ‘Elite’ marine officers. On his left breast were his new insignia, specifically launched for the ‘Elite’ marine officers, who completed the SSF Special Marine Operations Training. Personally, Richard thought it was a bit of a farce, but he really liked the new rank insignia.

He caught himself running his finger over the three pips and the Starfleet chevron that made up his rank insignia. It was not all that different to the ancient United Kingdom army rank style, presumably where the designer got his inspiration, and the pips were almost identical to their pips, if not slightly smaller. Being from England, Richard had a certain affinity with the styling. He could even stand to be in this pyjama styled uniform.

There was a tap at the door, and Harper poked his head around the doorframe, wearing his own variation of the new SSF uniform, designed for enlisted personnel. He had the marine green shoulders of the tactical uniform, but wasn’t wearing any of the combat webbing that came with the outfit. As Sergeant Major of the MEF, he would probably not need to wear it unless he was with Richard, as Richard invariably found himself leading from the front.

“You admiring your fancy ass again?” Harper sighed.

“Hush you.” Richard said.

“Oh come on, you know you look like a berk, no matter what you wear.” Harper smirked.

“Hey, enough of that from you. You look like a trained chimp in your uniform.” Richard quipped.

Harper made a couple of monkey noises and laughed. “Pilot says we’re approaching the starbase.”

“Alright, I’ll be out in a moment.” Richard said, straightening his uniform out again.

“For christsake Richard, you look fine!” Harper said, sighing.

“I want to make a good impression on my new posting, is that alright with you?” Richard snapped.

“Yes sir!” Harper said, and stepped out of the room.

Truth be told, Richard was looking forward to reuniting with Chloe on Unity. 6 weeks at the SSF Academy to freshen up and take the Special Marine Ops course to gain his ‘elite’ status had made him miss his love. He yearned to hold her in his arms again. However, he had to meet with someone called Shane Guzman, who was the Task Force Commander. There was always anticipation in meeting a new flag officer type, whether they’d be uptight assholes or down to earth types.

“General Sharpe, we have arrived at Starbase Unity.” The pilot said over the PA.

Picking up his duffle bag, Richard made his way out of the craft. His personal effects, in storage crates on board, would be beamed to his new quarters. What this station’s security sensors would make of his very large arsenal of personal 20th & 21st century guns, he had no idea. As he stepped over the threshold of the transport, he thought “Onto new adventures and new beginnings.”

Greetings Chimerans!

Our beloved Captain Rojac is tending to a family emergency at the moment and as a result I'm doing the report (so expect some errors). We hope things aren't to serious for the captain and that he's able to return soon.

For those of you who're interested, this week marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, so when you look up at the sky and see the moon, spare a moment to enjoy the history that was made in 1969.

As for the subplot, it's aaaaalmost done, just a log or two more to wrap up things that need to be done.

We're still waiting to hear from Jess & Jass and Melissa. Please let us know if you're still alive! :)

Oh, in other news (I almost forgot) the President of UCIP has decided to grace our little sim with his presence, so let's make him all feel welcome and pelt him with pies when he sets foot on Unity. :) We now have approximately half of UCIP's Senior Staff simming with us, so our plan to take over the organisation is coming along nicely!

Just kidding. :)

No, I'm not...

Yes, of course I'm kidding!

(No, really I'm not...)

Okay, show's over, get logging! And have a happy week!

PS: The log count is probably wrong since I counted it, so just ignore it if it is!

Unity - Rangi

Martin was beamed to safety abaord the Qashqai but Shane
discovered he was right to be suspicious of Harkers intent.
They fought hand to hand on the beach and Harker managed to
momentarily overpower Shane and took the opportunity to
explain he sought revenge for Shane killing Samantha in
another world.

Shane didnt understand Harkers cryptic words and seizing the
chance to grab the concealed phaser, fired twice, killing
him. Shane had Harkers body and himself transported to
sickbay. Chisulo received the news which was almost
immediately followed by the revelation that three Warbirds
were de-cloaking.

Shane too was informed of the Romulan vessels but with the
addition that a fourth ship was de-cloaking above them...the
USS Detector. It fired on and destroyed one Warbird but when
Chisulo refused his hail, Shane wondered if Rangi was on one
of the other ships and ordered Qashqai into the line of
fire, so halting Chisulos action. It was now soon explained
to him that no Federation prisoners were onboard the Romulan
ships. Suddenly the scout ship rounded on the Warbird and
disabled it. SubCommander Cevalas explained to Shane that he
was a member of the Unificationist Movement and willingly
agreed to transport to Qashqai.

Onboard SB Unity, Bren pondered on past events, how the
Chameleiod could have succeeded so well in taking Lievs
place and how the Task Force could have been compromised,
whether Liev was alive or dead and why he himself had not
known anything was wrong.

Natalia had returned to Earth and spent time with her
parents on Moscow before taking a trip to the Cranfield
centre in England where Fr'rn Lakqost was being treated for
his life threatening injuries. Natalia wasn't sure of his
feelings for her but wanted to see him and when he smiled at
her and spoke her name, she knew she had been right to visit
him.

Rojac had a meeting with Trent and they discussed current
events, both feeling satisfied with the situation although
Trent kept worries about his family to himself.

Chimera - Ixus

Natalia spends some quality time at the family home on Earth
with her mother. The moral of the tale? You may kill enemies
of the state and carry responsibility for 719 (soon to be
727) lives of fellow officers but that's no excuse for
skipping a good breakfast in the morning. After that its a
tearjerker of a reunion between Natalia and Chimera-B's
former security chief Fr'r'n Lakqost in a specialist care
unit in London. Next up is Jade and Rayna's discussion. The
good news is power distribution modifications benefiting the
Chimera's thruster outputs making us more agile in battle
but the bad news is that the warp core will require
maintainance sooner thanks to the bumpy trip through the
Grand Banks Nebula...well at least it should keep the
engineers from trying to blow up the ship! The good Captain
Cropa meets with...the other good Captain Trent and they go
over a delayed debrief and in thought they add up their
paperwork and for once Chimera seems to be promised almost
all of it's R'n'R time! Last up Anya has an unscheduled
diversion to Trill on her journey back to Unity where she
meets an all too knowledgable Priestess from the shrine run
by her Grandmother.

Even Romulans shouldn't trust Romulans!

Without any warning the Romulan Scout spun
around and opened fire on the nearest warbird.
Its weapons cut right through the shields of
the giant Romulan ship, severing the neck
and sending debris hurtling into space.

Romulan Comrade of the Week Winner

* SUBJECT LINES/LOGGING GUIDELINES/WEBSITE NEWS/IRC INFO *
==============================================
-------------------------
- Subject Lines
-------------------------
Please remember to use the following format for your subject lines:
SD 24YYMM.DD, Duty/Personal Log, Rank Name
e.g., SD 240502.01, CO's Log, Capt Rojac
e.g., SD 240502.01, Personal Log, Cropa Rojac
The [USS Chimera] part of the subject is placed automatically by the listserv, so you don't need to include it.
Also remember to include your details at the end of your log
e.g.,
Captain Cropa Rojac
Commanding Officer
USS Chimera NX 96899-B
-------------------------
- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (
chimera-command@ucip.org
) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (
chimera-command@ucip.org
).

The following crewmen are on report:

none.
-------------------------
- Removals/Resignations
-------------------------
The following crew have either resigned or have been dropped due to lack of activity. If they would like a position on the USS Chimera, they will need to reapply.
