[USS Chimera] Stardate 240903.22 Personal Log-Cadet Pamela Brock

=^=Deck 17 Quarters on USS Chimera=^=

Well, it has been my first day aboard the USS Chimera, and it seems pretty wild, but interesting. It is a big ship for one thing. I really hope that I will fit in with everyone else just fine. I have a few more days until I report for duty. For now, I am just studying and observing people as they do their jobs. I finally got the replication system down pat. It took forever before I could get my hot tea! At first, I found out that they had different kinds, then instead of hot, my tea came cold. I finally got it right. I think that I may spend time cooking while on the Chimera, because I would hate to see what would happen when I want food.
Also, when I asked for just regular summer soup, the computer kept telling me to restate my request. That system needs training I think! So far, I really like the holodeck systems and hydroponics. I am looking forwards to seeing the Arboretum, as I think it will be interesting. I think tonight I will go and read a holonovel. It is so lonely being among the stars. But I will get used to it. I can not wait until I get to start working! Work is my life. Right now, I have so much time on my hands, that I am going crazy and don't know what to do with myself! I have heard that they have a lot of good reading material in the library, in fact, I might go there tomorrow. I just am not sure yet! Someone told me that this ship has 720 personnel onboard! It is amazing that one ship would have all these people. I mean, think about it; you live, work, and do everything together like one big group. I guess on a starship, your coworkers become your adopted family. Also, it is amazing that a ship, like this, would have all of this, I mean for enjoyment. Well, I guess it can get boring in space, especially when you miss your family and other stuff like that. I accidentally ran into a young man this morning when I was trying to find my quarters. I was so embarrassed. I think I scared him more than he scared me. I will try to find out who he was and apologize to him. Well, I think I will go back to waiting until I can report to duty. I sure hope I survive!

[USS Chimera] SD0903.20 Joint Duty Log - Cmdr/MCapt XO/COps Natalia Trzetrzelewska and Jade Reese - "Approval of a Side Project"

=/\= XO's Ready Room, USS Chimera C =/\=

Walking onto the bridge Jade nodded to the operations officer on duty and also to the watch officer walking over to the XO's ready room Jade wanted to speak with her about the idea of the EOH (emergency operations hologram) idea that she came up with a few days ago. She hoped that the XO would agree and allow them to work on ideas on how to start creating the program. Once at the door to the ready room Jade hit the chime and waited to be invited in.

Commander Trzetrzelewska was busy studying a report when she heard the chime that announced MCaptain Reese. She had been keeping a low profile since Chimera's return to Unity and had requested some leave from Captain Rojac, but came into her ready room to do some work today as well as see MCaptain Reese.

"Enter," she said and looked up as the Operations Chief entered. "Captain Reese, please take a seat. Can I offer you anything from the replicator."

"Some coffee would be nice." Jade said taking a seat at the desk and setting the tablet on the desk. Taking a look around the office Jade noticed that it was similar to the Captains ready room, but it had the XO's own personal touch.

Natalia ordered two coffees from the replicator and when they materialised, brought them back to the desk and sat down. "What can I do for you today, Reese?" she said, placing Jade's cup down in front of her.

"As you know myself and a small team has been working on making a device to disrupt or at least bypass communication jammers and jamming field." Jade said, "but I've been looking through some recent reports dealing with adjustments that we must make at the end or sometimes durning our shift. These adjustments mainly deal with the EVS system and other systems that must be brought back to normal ranges." Jade said as she took a sip of her coffee.

"After performing one myself it's a lot of work that takes us away from other operations that must be performed, so I started to look at a hologram program that could perform these adjustments and all we would have to do was to double check the work the hologram did." Jade said taking a breath before continuing on, "so I just wanted to check with you if creating small team to work on this project would be alright with you?" Jade asked hoping that it would be.

"You know, that's actually a very good idea," Natalia said, leaning back in her chair and thinking about Jade's proposal. "Everyone knows personnel is stretched thin across SSF, so it makes sense to me. AI is no substitute for a human mind, of course, but with the correct personality subroutines, I'm sure it would work out just fine. How many people would your team consist of?"

"I would need at least five or six people to start working on the algorithms that the hologram would need to do what I want it to do." Jade said, "and then maybe three or four people from engineering to help write actual program and then help with the testing of it." Jade said, "and for a time frame it could be from 3 to 6 months that we would have a working program." Jade said realizing that it was going to take awhile, but in the long run it would be worth it.

"Do me a favour and involve some of the newly enlisted crew," Natalia suggested. "Some of them are just fresh out of the Academy and they don't have as much knowledge or experience as I'd like. I think a project like this could help them gain some experience, as long as it doesn't interfere with duties."

Jade nodded, "I'll use them to help locate the right algorithms and that will do two things get them familiar with the algorithms and also when we start writing the program they can see how that is done." Jade said rubbing her forehead, she didn't hate the new recruits mainly because she was one also, but with personnel so thinly stretched they didn't have a lot of time to train them, but that's the job of a department head.

"I look forward to reading your first report on the project," Natalia smiled. "If it works then maybe it's something that could be deployed on other ships throughout the fleet."

Jade let out a grin she had worked on small projects before, but nothing that could be disrupted through the fleet, "thank you commander for allowing me to start this side project." Jade said setting the coffee mug on the desk and making her way back to the bridge and the ODCC to check in on some stuff and then it was time for her to get some food.

"All right than, dismissed Captain Reese," Natalia nodded.

*** Med Adv office * SB Unity ***

Rangi stood looking out at the portion of planet visible
through the large view port, idly wondering if it might be
possible for Shane, Martin and herself to spend a day or two
there, a sort of mini holiday where they could relax away
from the demands of duty and where the hours could be
relaxing and happy.
She would suggest it to Shane she decided as she turned to
the door where the chime had sounded.
"Come in" she called, walking back towards her desk and
looked towards
the figure who entered.

"Major Kinn, thankyou for coming so quickly. Please...take a
seat."

"Commander," Giella nodded as she entered the medical
advisor's office and took a seat. "What can I help you
with?"

"Communications." Rangi replied. "Ambassador Ayanami
informed
me that un encrypted messages have been intercepted in
Alliance space. Do you know anything about it?"

"Unencrypted messages?" Giella responded, frowning slightly.
"All SSF related communications are automatically encrypted
with a general SSF security algorithm which is updated and
altered frequently. I'm not sure what the ambassador meant
by that, but it's unlikely that unencrypted information
would be sent into Alliance space."

"Well, it seems as though it was." Rangi said."...unless you
think its been decrypted?"

"No, I don't think the Erassians would have the decryption
codes, and even if they did, admitting it would put the
Alliance in violation of the MDP. I doubt the ambassador
would do that," Giella said as she rubbed her chin. She sat
forward then in the chair and placed her elbows on the
table. "What exactly did these messages contain? And from
where to where were they sent? "

A slight frown appeared on Rangis face. " Mostly they
are...disparaging references to the medical capabilities of
the Alliance." Rangi said. "Its not something that I will
tolerate and I'll be having a word with Lieutenant Commander
Hiroshi. The messages are in here." she added and handed
Giella the padd Alecto had provided.

"Lieutenant Commander Hiroshi?" she questioned as she
looked over the padd.

"Yes...from the Nightingale...the medical ship in attendance
at Charos VI."

"It sounds to me like a case of making a mountain out of a
maja," Giella mused, then noticing Rangi's perplexed
expression replied, "A maja is a small seed where I come
from. I don't like to generalise, but Erassians can be a bit
touchy. The transmission may very well have just been a
disgruntled officer airing his opinion on a personal
channel, perhaps sent to the wrong address. In my opinion,
Ambassador Ayanami has more to worry about than a misguided
comment in Starfleet communique. She has Klingon blood on
her hands and her actions at Narendra may have soured future
relations with the Empire. We aren't innocent either; the
mission went badly and that's why the Klingon delegation is
being recalled from Unity. I'll still look into it, you can
never be too sure. There
have been reports that some of our communications systems
may be compromised, so I am not too surprised at the news."

" Thankyou, I'd appreciate it. " Rangi said then added: " I
was surprised by the Ambassadors appearance when she walked
in...she had Klingon blood on her clothes and was obviously
not in a good mood. It wasnt only the messages that she came
to complain about."

"What else did she have to say?" Giella asked. "If you don't
mind me asking," she added quickly, but the slight twinkle
in her eye made it clear she was very interested.

"No I dont mind." Rangi said giving a slight smile. " She
was concerned about the virus...its mutated..and wanted

help. That led to the mention of the messages and
then..well....lets just say that diplomacy didnt remain a
high
priority on either side. She's been trying to contact the

Commodore without success."

Giella sighed and leaned back in the chair. "There are
procedures to be followed. Yes, they are admittedly lengthy
at times, but they still have to be followed. If the
Alliance requires aid, they have to request it. We are not
an aid organisation but a defense institution busy fighting
a war; our resources are being fully deployed on our own
fronts and we don't have the time to ask them at every
incident if they require assistance. They have their own
infrastructure and capabilities and don't hesitate to remind
us of it when it suits them." Realising she was getting
digressing, Giella stopped herself and returned to the
point. "The conditions of the Mutual Defense Pact and the
conditions stipulating our supply of aid is simple; we are
not obligated to supply them medical assistance unless they
explicitly request it."

" They have now." Rangi said simply. " I'm going to talk to
the commodore about it."

"He has been rather busy of late," Giella replied. "I
suppose you can't blame her for becoming frustrated. Oh, I
wanted to ask... have you made any progress with your
investigation about the missing medication?"

Rangi shook her head. " No, unfortunately not." she
answered. " Every avenue has led to a dead end."

"There must be some explanation," the Intel officer frowned.
"In any case, I will looked into those messages for you and
let you know what the result is."

"Thankyou." Rangi said " I'll wait to hear from you."

Athena lay in bed sleeping late into the morning but it had been difficult to fall asleep the night before as snippets of her conversation with Susan kept running through her head.

~~ She stood on the cliff with her hair whipping behind her in the crisp blowing wind.  The waves crashed against the rocks below; their frothy caps barely illuminated by the moonlight.  She was waiting for someone and hoped they would get there before the storm.  She heard a noise coming from the some where near the outcropping of boulders not too far away.  She turned and moved toward them and a cracking noise ripped through the air.  {Was that a gun... or thunder} she thought as light flashed across the sky.  She rushed forward and came to an abrupt halt as the moonlight glinted of the metal of a still smoking handgun.

Her breath made puffs of little clouds as she stared at the gun.  The air rumbled its own displeasure and with the light flashes that became the backdrop to the full moon; she could see another dark form laying on the ground.  She tried to make a couple of steps to help but the barrel of the gun seemed to follow the position of her heart keeping her motionless.  {It seems less threatening when its not following me.}

Her thoughts raced from giving aid to getting help to just getting away.  ".....I couldn't let you two be together and now ... my dear .... its your turn."   She watched in horror as he squeezed the trigger.  ~~

A scream ached as it caught in her throat as she sat up and her eyes flew open.  {Where am I?}  She tried to suck in some much needed oxygen but found she couldn't for the hand that was there to block the scream was also blocking the flow of any oxygen to her lungs.  The sheet slipped from her naked form revealing her breasts.  His hand feel away and his gaze fell to her chest as her brain started coming out of its sleeping fog and into rapid thoughts.

{Bedroom.... Sunny.... Erass... Who....}  She looked up at see who was there with her.  With a sigh of relief, Athena breathed, "Susan?"

"They're coming," was the simple reply.

Athena practically jumped from the bed, "Who... "  She pulled a t-shirt over her head and slipped on some pants asking, "When... right now... immediately, sometime in the near future.... in the distant future?"  As she flipped the hair out of her face Susan's blank expression met her own gaze.

Athena had taken a quick shower and changed into a tank top and a pair of comfortable pants.  She stepped out into the spacious living area from the bedroom.  Tadakatsu seemed to be waiting although she had said that he didn't need to bother.  "I'm ready to go."

Tadakatsu nodded and led the way through a series of turbolifts and corridors which was laid out more like a maze than any standard building layout.  To be sure though the building had been built with a purpose in mind..

It wasn't long before the two came to a door.  The doors looked like some heavily plated industrial safety precaution rather than the doorway to a persons quarters.  {{Athena you can come in.  Tadakatsu stay outside till you are needed.}}  Susan's voice projected into their heads with the greatest of ease.

"So much for knocking," Athena said before entering the room.  {{How are you Susan?}}

{{Functioning within limits.  And how are you Athena?}}  Susan replied as Athena physically walked into the room.

{{I'm good at the moment and do you think functioning is a good way to describe your well being?}}

Susan replied  {{Don't pull the psychological crap with me Counselor.  There isn't a place in your shrink textbooks that deals with something like me.}}

{{Fine but when described as functioning it sounds like you need an engineer.}}

{{We are but machines made of flesh are we not?  Simple tools but to be used to the whims of higher powers?  What do you think Athena?}}

{{I suppose some of us are... I'm not sure that applies to all... or at least there are some that don't think it would apply to them.}}

{{Those who think they aren't influenced are more influenced than others...the so called true believers.  Pitiful fools really}}

{{How is your father... I haven't heard from him in a while?}}

{{Alive last time I checked.  The Romulans are trying to cut through Alliance Territory directly through the Erass System via the Grand Banks.  A game of kill the king just like Alexander the Great used to like.  The Erassians would be pleased with that at least.}}

{I wish I could speak with him} Athena thought on a sigh....  {{What do you think about the King?}}

{{The figurehead.  He is what he has to be according to the plan.}}

{{I see.  He says he's a strategist.}}  Athena didn't know why but something kept striking her as odd.

{{You are confused.  Why?}}  Susan asked.

{{The King is described by others as a figurehead... he describes himself as a strategist and yet you all are supposed to have specific jobs.  But... you know it seems odd to have this conversation with a child that looks one age but is more than likely as smart if not smarter than most cadets coming out of the academy.}}

Susan replied {{The King is a figurehead, built to lead and command the loyalties of others.  For a position such as that he should be a strategist to navigate the muddy political waters.  As for myself I am not something that was in the plan for the Ganymede Genetics Corporation, merely a possibility to be explored.  Even though I was not a part of the GGC's plan's I still have my part to play as does everyone else.}}

{{I see.}} {So the king is nothing more than a glorified me .... most peoples eyes} she thought to herself as she began to put pieces of her own little puzzle together.

{{Something is bothering you though else I doubt you would have made your way here otherwise.  Care to tell me about the dream Athena?}}

Athena knew she could pretend to not know which dream Susan was talking about that but that was pointless as Susan always seemed to read whatever thoughts she wanted.  {{The trip here was a suggestion from a friend and No not really.}}

{{We often walk the paths we must through the influence of others but remember all rivers lead to the sea.  Just as the sun will rise it must also set.}}  Susan replied evenly.

{{Yes, it must}}  Athena stood for a few minutes silent and deep in her own thoughts.  {I really must speak with Vik and the sooner the better.}  Finally with a sigh that seemed to contain conviction and dread, {{If possible could you let your father know that I would like to speak with him ... and if you have some free time maybe tea on the terrace would be nice?}}

{{I will try but even I am not guaranteed to be able to reach him if he has his walls up.  As for the tea I will do my best, but events on the outside require constant monitoring.}}  Susan replied calmly.

"You're elected, Ben," Jack said to the bear sized man.

"Why me," Ben asked.

"Because she'll do the least amount of damage to you," Sam replied with a hundred watt smile.

"She'll need a sparring partner," Joe added helpfully.

"And," Ben intoned.

Joe continued, "she might be mad that we ditched her last night."  They all looked over to the corner where Nym was stretching out.

"This sucks."  The other three looked back a Ben and nodded their understanding at his simple sentiment.

While Joe taped up her hands and Jack and Sam warmed up Ben, Nym looked over the quartette and mentioned, "You all disappeared quite abruptly last night."

"Well, you're the one who invited the high ranking officer to the table," Jack responded.

"So... that means you have to ditch and run," Nym asked as Joe finished up and she gave each of his hands a test punch.  She nodded her satisfaction and he stepped out of the way.

Jack and Sam went to join Joe as Nym joined ben in the ring.  Sam answered, "No ... but it makes us feel more comfortable when we do."

"Thanks," she responded dripping with sarcasm and throw a right in Ben's direction.

Ben deflected the punch and without thinking asked, "didn't you want to be alone with him?"

She faked a stomp to Ben's instep by placing her foot between the bigger opponent's.  With the distraction, she threw her weight behind a left cut and made contact with his jaw.  Ben gave his head a shake and took a step to give himself some room to work.  {Its not that I didn't want to be alone ... but didn't have to be alone with...duck!}  Nym ducked agilely and came up practically underneath Ben giving herself the advantage.  Putting the power of straighten her legs behind her next blow she scored a solid hit to Ben's ribs.

Nym stepped back watching for Ben's next move which was a glare at the other three men before letting his eyes fall back to watch his opponent.  {I think I'm getting used to him showing up...} she thought as she put forth a series of moves.  Ben worked on blocking first a left and a right punch and then blocked a kick almost seating Nym.

Nym moved through the work out almost as if it were a dance.  Had she been by herself it might have looked like a ballet.  If Nym's movements were as graceful; as a ballet then Ben's were more like the stomping movements of a ho' down.   Nym wipe some perspiration from her head with the sleeve of her shirt; while Ben let it drip to the mat as he threw his next punch.  Nym blocked thinking {he's nice, but still..}  Her thoughts were cut short  by the fine hairs at the back of her neck standing on end.  {He's watching..}  She turned to look around the room and Ben connected with a right to the left side of her face.  The fact that she remained standing after a punch like that was almost amazing and she called and end to the match.

She smiled at the guys and went to get the towel from her gym bag and picked up the padd that was there too.  As she cooled down from her sparring match, she flipped through the information, pause when a particular item caught her eye.  She looked up to see Vlimar leaving the gym.  She looked back down at the padd that was informing her that she need to give that particular Lieutenant Colonel an evaluation due to an accident where he was burned.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240903.19 Joint Personal Log Cdr.Rick Rodgers, LtCdr.MaiKai Rodgers, LtJg.Na

=Rodgers' Quarters=
=Starbase UNITY=

Rick laid quietly in bed with Mai wrapped in his arms. He was
surprised to find that he was a bit exhausted. Mai may be pregnant,
but she had considerable energy. Almost more than he could
handle, he thought. He smiled as he looked at her, with her eyes
closed.

Then there was a realization.

"Computer, time."

[The time is eleven hundred hours and thirty eight minutes]

"Oh, crap," he muttered.

Mai was wrestling with herself on whether she should get up now
or wait a while longer.  Mai noticed that her husband had woken
and he looked a bit flustered so she asked, "What is it?"

"Nanee expected to be here in about 22 minutes," Rick said as
he slid out of bed and began to put on his clothes. "I take care
of lunch."

He then leaned down after putting on his pants.

"You ..........," he kissed her on the forehead. "... you just take your time.
I have everything under control. If you not ready when she get here,
I stall."

"Ok..." Mai replied.  She had almost forgotten that her cousin was
coming to lunch.  Mai was also beginning to think that maybe Rick
was trying to take on more than what he could handle by running
around and doing everything possible for her.

He struggled to find his shirt. He looked all over the floor and under
the bed, but came up short.

"You see my shirt, honey?" he asked.

Mai smirked.  She had to rub her top lip against her bottom one to
quiet the laughter that was building up.  She reached under the
covers and felt around before gripping on what felt to be his shirt.

He took the shirt that Mai had pulled from underneath the blankets
and quickly slid it on.

"What you want for lunch?" he asked.

Thanks to her pregnancy, Mai had built up a bigger appetite and was
hungry more often than usual.  She took in consideration that she
didn't exactly finish breakfast either as she looked to the floor and
saw where the breakfast tray had crashed to the floor.  Mai was kind
of having a craving for pasta the more she thought about what she
wanted for lunch.  "Maybe lasagna with garlic bread and a side
salad...?" she suggested.  She really wasn't sure exactly what she
wanted.  She figured if she didn't like what they were having after all,
she could always plead with Rick to fix something else. Now Mai tried
to sit up in bed in order to set in motion the process of actually getting
out of bed to get dressed.

"Will do," he said, giving her another kiss before walking out of the
bedroom.

He had to replicate everything since he didn't have time to prepare
a 'proper' lunch. He liked to cook whenever he could, especially for
guests. But this time, a replicated meal would have to suffice. As
soon as he finished with the meal, he heard the chime of the door.

"Come in," he said as the door swished open and Nanee entered.

"Good to see you make it," he said, offering her a hand........ "Please
come in."

Nanee hesitantly took Rick's hand as she stepped inside their shared
quarters.  She was quite nervous.  So much in fact she had skipped
breakfast and wasn't sure she'd even be able to finish lunch here.
"Thank you..." she finally spoke timidly.

"Please have a seat. MaiKai will be out shortly," Rick said.

Nanee took a seat very slowly on the couch that Rick selected.  She
made sure to be very cautious due to the fact that her foolish actions
have been known to be catastrophic.

"I hope you like lasagna. If not, I can make you something else. It be
no problem."

"No, that sounds wonderful," true to form.  Like her cousin, that oddly
happens to be one of Nanee's favorites...

"What would you like to drink?" Rick asked.

Nanee didn't want to impose so she asked Rick for a water as she
wrestled with her hands in her lap.

"Water it is," he happily said as he poured some from a glass pitcher
and handed the glass to Nanee.

Then he went back to work on the meal.

Even though the salad was replicated and already tossed, for Rick
it was a matter of habit to toss it himself. Once done, he took a
seat in a chair next to the sofa

"I glad you made it," Rick said. "I not know many in Mai's side of
the family.
"

"Me too," Nanee smiled meekly.  She didn't want to get into any
conversation involving too much of family detail at the moment.

"Where you serve before coming here?" Rick asked.

She took a drink of her water before answering, "I worked as an
Assistant Medical Officer in charge of the Pulminary/Coronary Unit
of the Colonel Coppingfeld Infirmary in San Diego, California" she
managed to say more normally.  She was starting to feel more
relaxed.

"Interesting," Rick said. "Sounds like a good assignment."

"Yeah, I liked it there," she took another drink of her water still trying
to get the built up lump out of her throat.

"Is Chimera your first starship duty?" he asked.

Nanee nodded first, "Yes, it will be. I'm actually excited about it".

He leaned back in his chair.

"There nothing like it, that for sure," Rick said with a nod of his own.
"I sure you will do well there."

"Thank you," she smiled weekly and turned when she heard
footsteps.  Mai was working on her way into the room.

Rick stood and walked over to his wife.

"Lunch is ready whenever you are," he said. "What can I get you
to drink?"

"Nothing I can take in my state so... I guess water..." Mai realized
that she was somewhat bummed that people could enjoy luxuries
that she couldn't.  She was starting to feel needy yet again, "I want a
kiss too..."

"That I can do," he said before kissing Mai on her left cheek, then on
her lips.

After pouring her a glass of water, he led Mai to the sofa next to
Nanee.

"We can eat out here," he said as returned to where the food was,
leaving Mai and Nanee alone.

Nanee opened her mouth as if to say something after a moment's
of silence, but was amazed to find that MaiKai was reaching out
towards her.  They embraced in a hug that could've had Mai sobbing
on her cousin's shoulder, but she was trying to keep herself composed.

Nanee then broke down and said something first, "I've missed you".

"I've missed you too, really" Mai felt the need to be honest here and
now. Just because she despised some of her family members doesn't
mean she hates all of them. Nanee was one of the ones she could trust
and be around. Mai know, however, it would be in there both interest if
they had lost contact after being forced to not see each other during
adolescence.

Rick stood with food in hand and smiled at the reunion. He was
happy for both women, but especially for Mai. He didn't know how they
had previously felt about each other, but now understood.

"Lunch is served," Rick said, placing the food and dishes on the small
table in front of the sofa.

The women released each other, but continued to smile at one another.  Each looking on the verge of tears.  Mai grabbed onto Rick. She held his hand in hers as he took a seat next to her.  The family began to dine in.

Natalia drifted on her back in the lukewarm water of the natural pool and stared up at the blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds, some that looked like sheep, others that looked apples and even one that looked like a communicator badge. She stretched out her arms and swept them through the water, her legs paddling slowly up and down. The air was humid and hot and the water was ideal to cool her down.

She'd decided to take some time off when the Chimera returned to Unity. Natalia found herself missing fresh air and ground beneath her feet and planned a visit to Aeran III. Spending so much time in space, one tended to forget what it was like planet-side, and a holodeck never really did compare. She wasn't the type of person that usually let stress get to her, but with a full-blown war going on and the Chimera being involved in dangerous missions, she couldn't help but feel a little more tense than usual.

What also bothered her slightly was the discovery of one of Outpost 0071 by the Romulans. Afterwards she questioned herself on whether or not she had overseen any detail during the deployment of the outposts of which she had been in charge. Of course, it had been a risk from the start and SSF knew that. The chances that the Romulans could discover the outposts were high, but it was stilled deemed worth the risk by SSF Command.

The outposts had delivered important information so far, being capable of detecting Romulan fleet movements that have proved to the Federation's advantages in border conflicts. But now they were compromised and their usefulness reduced... at least until SSF decided what exactly to do with them, if they hadn't already.

She always wondered to herself just how much Task Force Command knew about the war that she herself didn't. As the Flagship's XO she was pretty much in the loop, but her clearance didn't go up to Flag level and she wasn't privy to all information, as was the case with all XO's. Maybe it was just as well she didn't know everything; she could do her job without knowing all of it, and more knowledge could just be a further burden, something anyyone could do without.

It was probably time for her to get back to Unity, but Natalia decided to relax in the water a little longer. There was luckily no rush, no one needed her immediate attention today and, hopefully, nothing was in imminent danger of collapsing or blowing up without her presence.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240903.17 NPC Duty Log Ensign Hopeler

=/\= Cafe De Sol - Unity =/\=
Mimi sat at one of the tables with a far away dreamy look on her face.  She was brought back to the present as a waiter sat down bagel, egg and sausage sandwich, orange juice, fruit salad and Irish breakfast tea.  She smiled at the waiter and picked up the padd laying on the table beside her.  She turned on the padd and took a look at meetings that were being requested by crew members.  With Athena being away, all the scheduling work that the more experienced counselor would do fell onto Mimi's shoulders.

She took a bite of her breakfast sandwich enjoy how the flavor of the melted cheese mixed with the egg and sausage.  Fortunately only a couple of requests had been made and Mimi was able to schedule those for to coincide with when Gustav would be working.  She closed out the request files and looked at the new crew files and discovered that there would be a new CMO who would need a psych eval.  Another bite of her sandwich and a sip of juice and tea.  {Might as well get that done before we're shipped out again.}

As she finished her sandwich and juice and then nibbled on the fruit salad, Mimi composed a note to Nanee Quiocho about the psych evaluation.  She finished the note making sure that the time she had offered to perform the evaluation were when Gustav would be working.  She finished the fruit salad and then sipped at her tea.  Finally satisfied she sent the psych eval request to its intended victim.  {Hopefully I'll hear back soon.}

Mimi turned off the padd and sat back and relaxed while she polished off her cup of tea.  She smiled quite pleased with the fact that she had scheduled her couple of appointments at various spots around the base to help keep the patients at ease and relaxed.  The only drawback was that she would practically be attached to a padd all day.  She looked at the watch she wore and realized that she had time to wander the shops for almost two hours before her first appointment.

=/\= Unity Holosuite =/\=

Mimi had waited for Gustav but evidently he was held up somewhere, so
she entered the desired program and went in.  She laid the blanket she
had brought out on the beach and weighted one of the corners down with
a picnic basket.  She pulled off her top and was shimming out of her
jeans to reveal her deep purple string bikini.

Gustav was running late, he had been caught up on some work trying to
get the environmental controls up and running again after the last
battle blew them out when he noticed what the time was, he rushed back
to his quarters on Chimera to get ready for what Mimi had arranged
unfortunately he wasn't quite sure what that was as all he was told
was not to wear to much.

Gustav finally arrived at the holosuite about 1/2 an hour late, hoping
Mimi wouldn't be to mad he entered and was stunned by what he saw
before him, Mimi in her revealing bikini, as he approached Mimi turned
to look at his direction all Gustav could say was "I've always said
purple suited you".

A smile spread across her face and she jogged the few short steps over
to him.  "You made it," she beamed up at him.  Standing on tiptoe she
pressed a kiss to his cheek, "I thought you might get involved.... and
forget."

"I almost did" he replied giving her a hug and a kiss back.

Removing his t-shirt, showing the very slight amount of scaring he had
around his shoulder he took a seat on the blanket and waited for Mimi
to sit down again next to him before asking, "how has your day been?"

"Uneventful, you?"  She looked in the picnic basket and hoped she
chose the right menu.  "Do you want to swim first or are you starved?"

"Busy, but everything is going well" Gustav said while starting to
stand up, he moved closer to Mimi and reached for her with a
mischievous smile on his face.

She gave a small squeal as she was lifted up and carried to the
water's edge before being placed on her feet.  The water was cool and
the sand squished between her toes.  She took a couple of steps deeper
into the water and then reached down, sending a wave of water
splashing toward Gustav.

Gustav was caught slightly unawares by the wave getting soaked by it,
after the splash had subsided he retaliated with a wave of his own.

=/\= 20 minutes later =/\=
They had splashed each other until they were both soaked and then
began to swim.  It wasn't long before his powerful strokes and pulled
him a head of her and he tread the water while he waited for her to
catch up.  "Ready to eat," she asked.

Gustav nodded and slowly started to head back to shore staying behind Mimi.

They started back, but Mimi stopped and a surprised "oh" slipped from her lips.

Gustav with a sly smile had reached up to Mimi and had undone one of
the stings on her Bikini bottoms.

She felt the one side of her bottoms loosen and then they were tugged
off with the next wave that crashed over her body as she began to
tread water.  "How much time do we have left," she asked as Gustav
started to stroke by her.

"Plenty" was all Gustav said, still with the same mischievous smile on his face.

"Good," she said with some relief and annoyed by the expression on his
face.  With the next wave she disappeared under the water and rid
herself of her top was well.  {I use his shirt on shore.}  She kicked
harder and swam up next to him brushing against him as she stopped to
come up a get a breath of air.

Gustav wondered where Mimi had gone and what she was planning when she
went under the water until she resurfaced, when she did he latched on
to her naked figure and gave her a long kiss while letting his hands
drop down to her bare backside.

She drank him in as he kissed her and tried to snuggle closer to him
as the waves tried to gently rock her away from him.  She hadn't
realized that he could touch bottom until he picked her up and began
walking toward the shore.  She nipped at his lip as one kiss stopped
and another started and soon he was laying her on the blanket.

After laying Mimi down on the blanket Gustav stood back up to both
look at his beautiful lover and remove his shorts he then lay down
next to her and started kissing her sensuously starting at her lips
then moving gradually lower kissing every part of her body on his way.

Mimi focused on the muscles of his body.  Her eyes started at his left shoulder and followed the line of his collar bone.  Just as she would have been noticing where his right collar bone and prosthetic shoulder met; he drastic her by kissing a particularly sensitive spot.  She let out a soft moan and ran her fingers through his hair and then down his arm to his hip.

==============================================
-------------------------
- Summary (by Queen Rangi)
-------------------------

Bren studied the archive of  logs and communiques from the
Beacon and began to wonder if there was a 'mole' on board
Unity. He puzzled over the 17 news items that had been
repeated  but there seemed to be no connection between them.

Alecto arrived in Rangis office with a list of problems and
grievances which caused the air to freeze or crackle!

After subjecting themselves to the new security measures,
Bren and Rick met Shane in his office and told him about the
inhibitor and who Jameson 'really' was.
Shane ordered the upgrading of the detector and repairs to
the shipyard. When 'Jameson' arrived, Shane questioned him
closely and learned of the inhibitors true potential and
also of work done on detecting cloaked ships. Shane decided
that Wright continue to use his cover as Jameson and, for
the time being, work alongside Bren and Rick.

Athena met King Asano and learned that Viktor was away.
Tadakatsu showed her to her rooms.

Bren and Rangi met for dinner and caught up on recent
events.

Cropa and Anya discussed fighters and the prospect of
building a new one.

Tom, frustrated by 'red tape' was shocked to learn of his
close friend  Harbrights death. He went to see Rojac who gave
him a 48 hour  clearance to view all files regarding the
explosion and fire in Unitys shuttlebay.

Maikai discovered the note and flower Nanee had left for
her. Rick surprised Maikia with the instalation of a jazzuzi
tub which he helped her to try out later.
Next day he met Nanee and invited her to his and Maikais
quarters. Maikai was nervous about it when Rick told her
what he'd done.

Shane and Rangi enjoyed some time alone.

 Morning After...The Night Before

" I meant with you." Rangi replied pointing at Alecto's
dishevelled appearance and dispensing with formal greetings
just as the Ambassador had done. " Please...sit down. Can I
get you something?"

Freudian Slip ?

"I am sorry for the inconvience, Commander" Pakosii
said, "but both of you were out of the UNITY for longer
then 4 hours. This is a new security measurement following
the death of Commander Harbright. Afterall, you could be
Changelings, Metamorphs … or even tax collectors … I
mean chirurgical altered Romulan assassins. Please proceed
to the retinal scan or security will escort you to
infirmary"

Lieutenant 'Tax Evasion' Pakosii

The AX-03 Halberd is born

"Finally thinking about an offensive then...I'll see what I can do
about speeding up the design process for the Halberd but bear in mind
that its at a far earlier stage of the design process than the Lancers
were when they asked me to build them.  So there is a good chance it
may take longer to roll them out."  Anya replied.

Vengeful Forces Awaken

Tommy looked up at a scared Johnson. He also saw several other people
who were looking at him with concern in their faces. Johnson was
saying,"... OK, sir? Wake up. Sir?" Tommy moved his head, whick was
hurting and asked," What happened? Why am I on the floor?" " You passed
out. After screaming loudly. thought ... Well, you must have known
Harbright." " I did. He trained me. For Betazed. This just got real
personal."

- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (
chimera-command@ucip.org).

[USS Chimera] SD:240903.15 Joint Personal Log, MCapt. Anya Xerxes/Lt. JG Gustav Kroitzer

----------
Start Log
----------

=/\= Aikman's Bar – Starbase Unity =/\=

Gustav was out himself tonight as Mimi was busy with one of the few
shifts that didn't line up with his, he was busy checking out some of
the bars on the station when he entered Aikman's bar, it looked a
little run down but the beer seemed good and clean and most
importantly the names where mostly unpronounceable which is always a
good sign in a beer.

He was just ordering his third pint of a lager that started with a W
and ended with a R but the middle of the name was gibberish to him
when someone sat next to him.

She looked at him with a grin "I believe I owe you a drink Leftenant.
I've come to pay the debt but if you say there's interest on it I may
have to kneecap you..."

Anya placed a bag on the bar "The pilot's made you up a recovery
package. There's a cap with 'The Man Who Thought He Could Fly' on it.
There's also a bottle of some generic booze in it along with some porn
mags donated by the guys although some may go beyond the pale."

Gustav looked in the bag and wondered if the pilots really did look at
some of the stuff in the mags, shaking his head a little he look at
the marine captain and said "well…umm… thanks" he also added while his
hand out "and could you with all due respect please not call me
Leftenant when I'm off duty my names Gustav or Gutz if you want but no
one has called me that since my academy days".

"Well I'm glad you know to keep the diplomatic bullshit to on duty.
You can call me Anya or Xerxes, whatever floats your boat whilst off
duty. Tell me Gustav...why'd they call you Gutz in the Academy? Did
you puke a lot?" Anya asked as she signalled to the barman that she
would pay for the lager and wanted a drink of her own.

Gustav chuckled a little but then replied, "Nah I didn't puke a lot,
just that I'm a bit of an anime fan and I guess I reminded some of my
class mates of one of the characters".

"And Xerxes what about you, you don't seem like the typical Starfleet
pilot, not as up yourself or as arrogant as most and believe me when I
tell you I've known a few pilots" he asked.

"I'm not Starfleet for a start. I'm former Erassian Alliance Military
and as such any arrogance I display has been earned through battle and
a good deal of bloodshed. If you're superstitious though, I'm what
you'd call a jinx. I survived the death of two squadrons and I'm
still going. My squadron however is going to last." Anya said her
frown deepening as the past came to the forefront of her mind. The
last sentence was said with a forceful determination.

Noticing the look on Anya's face Gustav decided to change the topic
"how are your new fighters doing".

"The fighters are performing to expectations...a few minor things to
work on but other than that okay. Other than that our major problem is
our lack of ability to hurt capital ships. Our weapons just aren't
created for fighter against capital ship use. What we need is an
Anti-Ship Missile and I need your help in creating one. "Anya said as
she fixed him with a stare.

Gustav stared back the marine captain, he wasn't used to people being
this forward with him, at least not in the middle of a crowded bar
"What sort of missile are you thinking about yield wise I mean" he
asked.

"Yield wise just short of a full size torpedo although you yourself
wouldn't have to worry about the warhead itself. I've got my armourers
and my lab techs working on that. The real problem lies in the
propulsion of the missile. The original intention was to use a Coil
Impulse Engine just like in my Lancers however they can't be decreased
in size any further than they already are. What I need is a small
sized engine with rapid acceleration. Think you can come up with one?"
Anya asked although she dropped her voice very low when she spoke of
the Coil Impulse Engine even though just the name didn't give away any
of the information behind how it worked.

"Don't see why not, I'll look into it ASAP, but not tonight, to night
I'm out to have a good drink, your free to join me for the rest of the
night if you want?" Gustav answered and asked at the same time.

"Well I wasn't expecting you to start work straight away. You may as
well come and meet the rest of my pilots they're drinking down at a
bar called The Falcon's Nest. You can even ask my XO exactly why he
had a copy of Granny Spankers in the first place!" Anya said.

"I might well take you up on that offer Anya" he said while finishing
his drink, adding "lead the way".

[USS Chimera] SD240903.15 Joint Duty Log - MCapt/LtJg COps/DCEO Jade Reese and Gustav Kroitzer

=/\= Crew Lounge, USS Chimera C =/\=

Jade was sitting in the crew lounge with a tablet and cup of coffee
going over some options for her communication jammer breaker. She
started thinking that it might be better to go with some technology
that is older, but might be able to get through communication jamming
techniques. Looking at something that the officers of Kirk's era
would've used a Laser Beacon it was pretty straight forward it used a
concentrates laser to break through an ionized atmosphere to get a
signal through. Using this same concept they might be able to
penetrate a jamming field and it would be a smaller piece of hardware.

Gustav walked into the crew lounge on his break, he was still busy
even though it was meant to be RnR, he went a replicated some coffee
and noticed Reese sitting by herself looking some stuff over and he
decided to sit with her.

"After noon Captain, busy day?" He asked

"Afternoon Lieutenant. Semi-busy mainly paper work, but I guess that
comes with being a department head." Jade said smiling, "how's your
day going?" Jade asked moving a few PADDs to allow the Lieutenant to
sit down.

"I've been busy repairing damage in the environmental controls, I've
also some other stuff on the go but hopefully the repairs will be done
soon" he told her.

"Well hopefully that's going well." Jade said setting down the tablet
she was reading and working with so she could take a sip of water.

Gustav, being the inquisitive person that he was couldn't help but
glance at the PADD that was put down on the table, talking to himself
he said "hmm interesting… laser beacons… maybe tachyon would" he then
stopped himself before he went further.

Jade looked back to the table after she realized that she was staring
off into space literally, "unh...." Jade said before she realized that
the Engineer was looking at her tablet, "I've never worked with
tachyon before how would it be used to beat a communication jamming
field?" Jade asked.

Gustav thought for a moment on how to simplify his explanation for a
minute before he started, not because he thought Reese wouldn't
understand but because he would more than likely spend the next few
hours going over nearly every facet of what he knew about tachyons and
how they could be used in breaking through comms jamming.

"Well tachyons are faster than light particles that are very high
powered, they are sometimes used for extremely long range
communication where subspace transmissions won't work, over long
distance the power of the transmission dissipates over time but on
short ship to ship burst transmissions then I think the power output
might be able to overcome the jamming of the romulans" he said while
starting think to apply it to a ship.

Jade nodded, "and with the intensity that the laser beacon would add
it should most likely break through any communication jamming field>"
Jade said out loud, but more to herself, "and this idea can work on a
star ship like the Chimera and on fighters as well mainly because
they're not big pieces of equipment we would just have to modify the
deflector dish to allow it to emit tachyons and put a laser beacon on
it." Jade added.

"How would you like to join me on a meeting with Captain Xerxes?" Jade
said thinking that it might help to have an engineer with her to
explain that the modification would be minor and also that the laser
beacon won't take any room on the deflector dish instead of the dish
being concave it would have small pointy device in the centre of it.

"I wouldn't mind, just give me a time and a place and I'll be there"
Gustav said.

"Alright I'll contact you once I have the details." Jade said smiling,"it was good to see you again Lt." Jade said as she stood up and grabbed her tablet and coffee cup and headed out of the crew lounge.
