[USS Chimera] SD240908.22 | DELTA | Master Sergeant Nicholas Angel | Division Delta Commanding Officer

"Origins: Day Three"

The following events take place one week ago on Day Three between 0900 hours and 1200 hours…

Nicholas was sat in a local bar in San Francisco wondering exactly how he was going to recruit his final member. This individual was incredibly skilled as a tactician but he knew from the profile that the likeliness of them wanting to join an elite Starfleet Special Forces Intelligence team was small to none; his record showed on the level plain and simple marine work. No frills. He sighed and swigged at his Irish coffee. Yes it was a little early but he wasn't on duty and he felt like it; it wasn't a problem just a personal choice. He was reading a news bulletin from the Special Forces Press Office which was informing him that the Romulan War was causing severe stress to forces; luckily Intel was reporting that this was on both sides. He deleted the information and tossed the PADD down and watched as the backup disk reloaded the Federation News Network front page. Taking another swig from his coffee he stroked his stubble, ran his fingers through his unkempt hair and sighed, he was getting old and chasing down team members wasn't as easy as it used to be.

He believed in the members that he had recruited so far however, they'd arrive. He was certain of it. He leaned back in the chair and looked up at nothing in particular wondering just exactly what the headquarters on Starbase Unity would be like, the equipment they'd be assigned and what the first assignment would be; he imagined it would be related to those damned Romulans. He gritted his teeth at the mere thought of them. during the last war with the Romulans he lost friends, family and nearly his own life and for that he had never forgiven them and was looking forward very much to get his revenge… although he'd have to keep a cool head simply because his new team was about stealth; not running in and killing every damned green-blooded snake he could find.

He downed the rest of his alcoholic coffee and ordered another one as the horrific memories came flooding back to him…

…"Listen up team, we're heading down to Romulus, Sector 15a, two clicks from that is an underground weapons bunker which Intel has uncovered to be hostile and a major supplier. Our mission is to destroy it quickly and quietly. The Trident will be entering atmosphere and we'll be HALO jumping down to the surface; we'll be moving cross-country to the location, destroying it and everyone inside and getting out – no survivors. Special Forces Command has specifically instructed us to use these damned Romulan weapons so pass 'em out, get kitted out and we'll be at the airlock in two hours to jump" he said nodding to the ODA and heading off to prepare himself for the mission in hand…

…Plasma bolts were being fired left; right and centre as the fire fight between the Romulan sentries were engaging the ODA. He watched as the Romulans swarmed the corridor and flanked the team, Nicholas watched in horror as this ambush was killing off his men. Around him time slowed as bodies hit the floor. He let out a primal yell and jumped across the corridor throwing a plasma grenade down the corridor and hit the floor next to the lifeless body of his executive and friend. He fought back the pain as the explosion filled the small space and then the room fell silent. He was beaten, battered and alone and someone somewhere had shopped them. Sending them in like bloody lambs to the slaughter…

…Nicholas was numb, dead inside at the horror he had just been a part of. He was an experienced combat soldier, he had seen friends and comrades fall in the line of duty but this was different. The sentry was waiting for them; they knew they were coming and now there was just him left to finish this mission and stick it to the green-blooded bastards. Heading into the main chamber he set the explosives as the mission objective stated and then hurried outside for the pick up. As he was engulfed in blue light and transported back the entire facility lit up the skies as his friends were buried in the rubble. He hated the Romulans for what they had done, he hated whoever had shopped them as well… he would find them; he would make them pay…

Nicholas snapped back to life as he sighed again and downed the entire alcoholic coffee in one. The waitress looked at him with some surprise and he merely smirked. He had one last team member to recruit; it would take a while to convince them as well so checking his chronometer decided it was best to make a move. This time when fighting the Romulans his team was not going to be a sacrifice.

Chloe walked down a corridor of the station. She had her duffle thrown over her sholder. She had been walking for the last 30 mins, completely lost and turned around. She had been looking for where Richard would be- then gave up on that and was looking where his- or their- quarters would be. And she still hadn't found them. She was starting to get flusterd by not being able to find them.

Soon she heard a voice behind her. She reconized it. It was Langhorn. "Lost are you?" Langhorn said amused. "I've seen you pass by here twice now.

Chloe turned around. "I could just be looking around." Chloe suggested as if she wasn't lost. She didn't want to admit that she indeed had gotten lost.

"Well, Im glad you've made it aboard the station finally. We're going to be meeting in my office tomorrow morning at 0700. Be there." Langhorn told her.

"I will." Chloe said with a nod of her head. "And could you perhaps...." Chloe was about to ask a question.

Langhorn cut her off. "Down the hall, two lefts and a right." Langhorn knew where Chloe was headed with out her having to ask.

Knowing that she was dismissed Chloe made her way therw the directions she had been given. Finally she made it to Richard's quarters.

Richard was buried under a load of PADDs. Having been placed in command of all Starfleet assets in this operational group meant he was co-coordinating all the ships in the area as well as his own marine contingent. To say that he was busy would be an understatement.

Wearing his glasses, he read through a report regarding the combat effectiveness of Easy Company, he didn’t hear any chime go off.

After waiting several moments, Chloe set down her duffle and started to fiddle with the door control. It was old and outdated. With in several minutes the door opened to her next to the control. She looked threw the door, then saw Richard. She didn't think that he was there because he hadn't answered.

Richard noticed the door open a split second before his personal guards by the door stepped out and leveled their phaser rifles at Chloe. “Hold your fire!” Richard shouted and got up from behind the desk. “Chloe?”

"Damn it, don't aim at me." Chloe said somewhat angered at the guards that were now aiming at her. She had forgotten the damn guards that followed him around now. But she also hadn't thought he was there. "Richard." She said looking at Richard when they didn't lower their aim.

“Stand down men.” Richard said, and the guards lowered their rifles and stepped aside. “Come in, Chloe.” He said. “Excuse the mess, I’ve got rather a lot on my plate at the moment.”

Grabbing her duffle bag she walked in, eyeing the guards. "I thought I was the messy one." She told him as she tossed her duffle out of the way. Seeing some empty dishes on his desk she picked them up and putting them away.

“Perhaps I wanted to make you feel more at home.” He said. “I’m just really busy. I’m in charge of the whole Starfleet force out here, as Admiral Guzman’s gone back to Unity.”

"Wasn't he supposed to stay here?" Chloe asked him as she relocated her duffle bag into the bedroom then comming back out. She ignored the guards eyes following her movements. She figured she would have to get use to them sooner or later.

“I thought he was, but apparently not.” Richard said. “Not that it matters much, its just annoying.”

"I suppose so." Chloe said as she walked next to him. "And since when do you need to wear glasses to read PADDs?" She asked currious as she stood behind him her hands resting on his sholders.

“I do when I’m tired.” He admitted. “Age.”

"If your tired you should give it a rest for a little while." She told him softly as she took his glasses off setting them on the desk. Chloe didn't like it when he made it obvious that he was a good deal older than her. She was sure that the guards picked it up, what else would they have to listen to? "How long have you been working on this?" She asked him, currious.

“About nine hours or more.” He said. Richard turned to the guards. “Dismissed.” They left the room. He spun around in his chair, and placed his hands on Chloe’s hips, looking up at her. “Good flight?”

A smile was on her face when he let in to rest some. She was even more happy that the guards wern't in the room anymore. But she guessed that they were close by- but that didn't matter. "Could of been better." Looking down at him.

“How so?” He asked.

"Langhorn is going to drive me up the wall." She said with a smile. "Then when I got here, I got completely lost. I was walking around for 45 minites. Than I ran into Langhorn again." She said rolling her eyes.

“If she’s hard on you, its because she cares.” Richard said. “Believe me, you’re tough enough to put up with it.”

"If Im tough enough to deal with you, I can deal with her." She said teasing him, then giving a light kiss.

Richard kissed her back with a bit more enthusiasm. “I need some rest.” He said, and got up from his chair. “I’m off to bed.”

"I hope that plate of food wasn't there from when you first got here." Chloe mentioned hoping that he had eaten some time ago. She had a feeling that she was going to have to make sure with him now and then.

“No, that’s mine.” He said, defensively.

Going to her duffle, she opened it starting to look for the pair of shorts and tshirt she used to sleep in.

Richard went into the bedroom and changed into a pair of boxers and a vest, and climbed into bed.

Changing, Chloe sliped into the bed next to him. Laying an arm across his chest, she wispered. "Goodnight, Richard."

Richard kissed her forehead and whispered. “Goodnight my love.”

[USS Chimera] 240908.21 Joint Log Major Cortez and Cmdr. Wellington

--USS CHIMERA--

Cortez stood silently in his quarters looking out into space, the chimera had left dock a while ago now and he was due to be reporting to the senior officers meeting any time soon. He had a few things to look into first however.

The Ships Counselor was one of them.  He'd been putting off that final part of his physical, the mental evaluation.  Ever since he'd bumped his head and gone crazy a while back he had to get an official evaluation once a year.  It never ended well.

Sometime later once Cortez had collected himself further and dressed himself in a fresh uniform he slipped down into Security Headquarters and sat against a back desk watching everyone at work. Sometimes he liked to just see what everyone was like when they weren't aware that he was watching or that he would be liable to walk in at any moment.

Listening quietly he could hear someone talking about a duty infraction in the Science department. Something about two officers being caught in well, more than a passionate embrace. He wondered what the Science Chief would make of it.

A few minutes later he let out a breath and made his way towards the Counselors office.

Dreading this moment he stepped to the door and pressed the chime.

Athena sat at her desk looking over a couple of reports hoping that Mimi and the others could handle most if not all of the crew evaluations that needed to be done this go around.  At the sound of the chime she distracted answered, "It's..Open."

The Major walked in and stood quietly, staring at Athena.  It had been a long time.

She read a couple more lines of the report before closing the document and standing.  Finally, she looked up and met the eyes of the person who had just entered her office.  "What can I..."

"Hello Athena", Richard spoke.

What she was about to say died on her lips as she realized who was there.  {Maybe I should have looked over the updated crew roster first.}  Recovering just before the moment became too uncomfortable, "In need of an evaluation," she questioned, knowing it would be more than likely.  She motioned to the two comfortable looking leather chairs as she moved to the one closer to her.

Cortez grinned inside at the sight of the counselor's surprised look.  "Unless you want to just skip it and sign off on me", he said stepping towards the chair.

"No... I've caused enough trouble this month already."

It was at this time that Richard spied the ring on the counselors finger.   Now it was his turn to be surprised.  Usually in these sessions he tried to ask more questions than he answered.  "So who's the lucky guy?", he inquired.

"The only one brave enough to ask," she responded.  "Viktor," she continued as she sat.

Cortez let out a laugh.  "You mean Private Ivanov?",  he leaned back into the chair, "And all that time I thought he was into guys", he added bursting out into a laugh.  It was well known that Victor had moved up the ranks and achieved the rank of General in a very short time,  but Cortez was a bit of jerk sometimes and he wanted to see her reaction to his comment.

"General," she said with a raised eyebrow and then asked, "And what's new with you?"  She could have been nasty and asked if he'd found any good vines to swing from, but decided to save it for another time.  She watched the light reflect the blue of her ring for a second with a wistful look and then gave Richard her full attention.

Cortez nodded.  "I'm sorry", he said suddenly changing his tone.  "I really do need to talk...is that ok?" he added.

"Of course... what's on your mind," Athena smiles letting him know she wasn't offended in the slightest.

Richard leaned forward in the chair, "You see I've been having these really weird dreams lately...very vivid...I don't know what to make of them".

Remembering some of his last "vivid dreams" she urged him to continue, "Well ... spill it  and I'll see what I think ... although I do so like for you to puzzle it out for yourself."

Richard swallowed and shrunk in on himself, "well, you see, I keep having this dream about another person on this ship. Its very wild and sexy and the problem is I think I want it to happen in real life".

She smiled at the expression that flashed across his face as he seemed to pick up on her thoughts and considered some of the possible meanings to her words.

Cortez continued, "Everytime I'm around this person Its all I can do just to control myself, I just have to know if this person feels the same way too".  He looked up at Athena, just as sincere as ever.
She waited patiently for him to continue and when it seemed like he wouldn't she kindly urged, "Go on."

"Well", Richard began, "I think I'm falling in love with Captain Rojac".  As he said it he contained a huge smile.  "Do you think he feels the same way about me".
"It wasn't exactly the answer she had been expect and she supposed she could try and use her telepathic/empathic abilities but she hated to feel as though she was invading others thoughts.  {Its one thing if you do it by accident or doing a negotiation were it might be expected to help your own crew but..} She gave herself a mental shake and began to answer, "I see... well... you definitely are entitled to your own feelings and it can even be healthy to try new adventures .... but ... I just .... don't..."  Athena looked up as saw the expression on Richard's face and knew he'd been pulling her leg.

Richards face began to show his smile and not being able to control himself any further he burst out laughing.  "I'm sorry", he said in-between gasps of air.

"I doubt very much your that sorry."  She gave an exasperated sigh at the waste of time, "And since you've wasted enough time here one of my staff can do you evaluation tomorrow... so go on and get out."

Cortez stood up, still laughing,  it wasn't the first time he'd been kicked out of a counselors office.  As he walked out of the room he glanced back at Athena, "Please don't tell the Captain how I feel, I'm not good at being rejected".

"I don't think I can keep that information to myself," she replied.  "After all I do have to tell the captain about any perceived threats," She finished as she ushered him out the door and let it slide shut.

[USS Chimera] [ALPHA] SD240908.21 | Duty Log | 2LT R. Winters | 1PL - Easy

Location: [Padassa Station]
Time: [Immediately after Beam-Over]

Dick Winters materialized in a space he figured to be approximately two-levels high, which was filled with other Marine units getting organized. Turning around he glanced behind him, grateful to see that his platoon had materialized there with him. After establishing all his men had arrived he surveyed his surroundings; it seemed to be one of the public locations, as along both the inside and outside bulkheads were shops that had been shut down, their interiors dark and empty. The entire station had prepared for the coming battle.

"Dick! Over here!"

Spinning on his heel, the Lieutenant quickly spotted Captain Spiers making his way towards him through the crowd. He held up a hand of his own and started towards the Company Commander, smirking as he joked, "Looks like standing room only for tonight's event."

Spiers shook his head but refrained from rolling his eyes, "And we've got even more comin in across the station. Korgath and Fox Company are already set up, with S'Valak and Dog next in line."

"Sounds great," Dick replied, returning his gaze to the environment around him. "So where are we setting up shop?"

"This deck is as close to centrally located as we can get you," the Captain responded, lifting a hand to point at several of the abandoned shops. "I'd suggest setting up in those, and establishing your command post in the infirmary. From here you can mobilize to any area of the station that needs support."

Winters turned to shout to the crowd, "Bull! Get the guys off the deck! I want second squad set up over there, with half of third. The other half and first squad are gonna be set up down there, in their infirmary. Have comms set up with battalion command, ay-sap."

"Consider it done, Lieutenant," Randleman said as he turned back towards the platoon. "Guys, listen up..."

Dick turned back to Spiers, confident that his platoon sergeant would get the job done, "Any news from Intel, Captain?"

Spiers shook his head, turning to force his way back through the crowd; Winters moved to follow him. "Nothing yet," he replied as the came up to the company's first sergeant, "Sergeant, get command on the horn. Tell them Easy is secured and Dog is ready to beam over."

"Yes, sir," the young man replied as he immediately set about the task as another being approached, one much larger than any typical human.

"Second Lieutenant Dick Winters," Captain Spiers began, holding up a hand to the Klingon Officer. "Meet Lieutenant Bar'dok of the Klingon Defense Force. His forces are stationed along the local levels of the station, so you'll likely be coordinating with him.

Dick extended an arm to the wild-maned Klingon, "It's an honor to work with you."

Bar'dok grinned widely, showing a row of recently sharpened teeth, and extended his own arm, reaching past Winters' hand to tightly grasp his arm just below the elbow, "Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam, Lieutenant!"

Meekly the Lieutenant raised an eyebrow, his arm still being held by the Defense Force warrior, "I'm...sorry. I'm...not sure what you said."

Spiers let out a laugh at the young man's nervousness, "'Today is a good day to die,' Dick."

"Oh, well, I'd rather not," began Winters, but as he felt Bar'dok's sharpened claws digging into his forearm he continued, "But if I must I can think of no better place to do it than in battle with the brave forces of the Klingon Empire."

Releasing the human, Bar'dok laughed, "Spoken like a true warrior, Lieutenant! I have men stationed down this corridor, and on the three decks both above and below this location." His grin widened as he teased the Marine, "Should you need help fighting the Romulan QI'yaH."

"Lieutenant Winters and the First Platoon have the fullest confidence of he battalion commanders and myself," Captain Spiers interjected, "If anything, you'll be calling to him for help." Dick stifled a laugh as the Klingon's face grew grim before the officer turned and walked away, presumably to his own units.

Turning back to Winters, the company commander gave the younger officer a stern gaze, "I know you're nervous, Dick, and you've got every reason to be. Just keep yourself and your men focused on the objectives, and they'll get the job done. Don't let me down."

The Lieutenant nodded, "We won't, sir. We're Easy Company..."

[USS Chimera] [Bravo] SD 240908.17 || 240908.20 || DUTY LOG || CSEC || MAJOR CORTEZ

== /\ Briefing Room /\ =====

Cortez had come straight from the training on the holodeck, obviously any muck stains which he had on him vanished from his uniform once he left the holodeck, but he was still looking slightly rough round the edges and didn't have the chance to change before the mission brief. He sat listening to the information at hand and became slightly amused at the information which was being dispensed.

Its as if command thinks this ship is full of Superheroes.   Yah, just go into a heavily guarded romulan base, steal their intel, blow it up, and then walk away.  Being expendable wasn't as much fun as it used to be.

Richard half listened as Rojac spoke, he was recording the mission brief itself for further study and obviously all information displayed here would be made available to him and his men.  His attention drifted to the men who would be on the demo team when the Captain addressed him.

"We will arrive at Karador in 23 hours. Major Cortez and LtMajor Shao, I want your teams to transfer over to the Eagle at that time, fully armed. It will take only three hour to reach the nursery from there, where you will be inserted. Major Cortez, make sure your security department is in capable hands before you leave."

Richard nodded and glanced over at Shao.  She looked harmless from her seat, the Rommies would probably laugh once they saw her coming.

As the Captain began to address the other department heads he began to zone out again.  This time thinking about Lieutenant Castillo, not his first choice to leave in charge of security on the ship, but he wasn't sure he had a choice.

His attention was once again drawn the Captain as he paused and crossed his arms. "Other than that, just make sure everyone is ready for battle in the morning. We go to Red Alert at 1200. If there are any questions, you may see me in my Ready Room and I will answer them. If there is nothing else, report to your department and brief them." The Captain stood. "That is all. Good hunting."

Once the brief was over Cortez was the first to stand and make his way out of the briefing room, he'd had enough of it, there seemed to be a lax attitude in there in regards to what they were getting into.   As he stepped out he mentioned to the Captain that he had a few questions and secured a few minutes of his time later on.

Marching into security Headquarters he saw that Castillo already had the troops rallied round for his arrival after the Mission Brief. Efficient, but nobody likes a smart ass.

"Attention on DECK!" Lieutenant Castillo barked before snapping himself to attention.

Richard didn't order them to ease.

"Ok, I've come from Mission Brief as you know, and its what we're trained for people. We're heading into enemy territory to destroy a Romulan base.  As of yet we don't know the exact location of the target, but those inglorious bastards over at intel are pointing us in the general direction.  I don't have to tell anyone here that we'll be using stealth technology, but what you guys don't know is that its some sort of top secret Erassian tech we've got on loan, now personally, I don't trust the Erassians one bit and wouldn't be surprised if the cloak fails and instead puts a big red bullseye on our asses for the Rommies to see.

...

"Thats why we have to be extra careful. As far as I'm concerned we've got a silent Red Alert.  All staff is required to carry weapons while on duty from here on out.  Be on alert, be prepared, check your corners and stay safe".

...

"Ok,  Castillo, Elbrum, Jones, Barnes and Rivers stand fast, the rest of you, breaks over get back to work."

As the room cleared the five men whos names he'd called formed up in front of him.

Richard began, "I have a lot of things to do, so I'm going to make this quick and not baby you because I'm not your mommies.  The flyboys don't get to have all the fun this time,  we're also going to be taking a small team in tandem with Major Shao's operators.  Our assignment is to rig the station to blow",

"Lieutenant", he said addressing Castillo.  "I will be leading the away team personally, that leaves you in charge of security here on the ship.  Don't muck it up".

"Elbrum", he said looking at the cadet.  "Your coming with me on the assault because your the only Betazoid i have at my disposal and since I have no idea what we're going to encounter on the mission your special mutant powers may come in handy". he stopped.

"Jones, Barnes, Rivers", he continued on scanning the faces of the other three men, "You'll be joining me as well.  Jones, I want all our gear unpacked and distributed. Checked, rechecked,  we won't need equipment for more than a few hours so make it light,  I'll get back to you with any details later.  Barnes, "he paused, "you and Rivers are to get a holo training simulation mocked up within 3 hours.  Standard Romulan Enemies, if you can, snoop in on Holodeck 2 and see what Shao's troops are training with, we can use that if its good."  Jack ordered calmly but with authority.

Turning around he started heading up the stairs towards his office shouting "Dismissed!" only once he was at the top of the steps.

I watched Bren Ohmsford leave the room and felt sorry for
him. He answered my summon as soon as his ship arrived on
Padassa and in 10 minutes he stood in front of me. What I
said to him was no nice business, in fact it was unpleasant
for me and more then sure very sore for him.

"Commander Ohmsford, thank you for coming. I wanted to see
you before … you will see Major Liev's body. I can very
well understand what you feel Commander, since I almost lost
Rangi the same as you've lost Liev. So, if you feel
emotionally too attached for your current mission, I can
understand that and if you want, you can return to UNITY
this very instant. Take a week or two leave"

As expected, Bren did not take my offer and said that he's
fine and fully ready to fulfill him duty. I do not know him
very well, but I am sure I am not mistaken to think that he
lied to me. Of course is he personally attached to the death
of the man he loved, but would not his personal feelings to
affect his duty. He's a strong man, but I feel very sorry
for him.

There was one another point why I called Bren to me and even
when it was by far not the appropriate time, this ceremony
was already long overdue.

"Attention, Commander Ohmsford! Your performance over the
last year did not go unnoticed by higher levels and even
Starfleet Command. I was instructed that your current rank
does not suit a man of your abilities anymore. It's my
pleasant duty to promote you to the rank of Captain with all
the rights and privileges that comes with this rank.
Congratulations, Captain Ohmsford"

Bren was taken by surprise, I'd say. Obviously he did not
expect this promotion – despite all his effort in R&D
department and 1st Task Force Science. I could understand
his surprise, cause it was usually the rank of Commander a
non-commanding officer could achieve. Too many excellent
officers were stuck in the rank of Commander just because
they could not be promoted to Captain. But war brings new
horizons to many …

He thanked me kindly, buy it was obvious that he would
gladly change that rank for the live of his beloved.
Unfortunately, that was something not even an Admiral could
offer to him …

Rick leaned against the corner of his desk as Lieutenant Proietti entered.

"So, Lara, how are things going with the shipyard?" Rick asked.

"They are going well," she replied. "How about yourself and your new job."

Rick smiled, "Commander Utley left the starbase in a mess, almost as bad as the last time I became CEO. We've also been busy working with security in seeking out and removing the survellance devices that were planted
throughout the base. Seems that Utley was very busy in that regard. All in all, though, it's good to be back."

"Glad to hear, though I wish you would have found somebody else to run the shipyard."

"Nonsense. You know that shipyard almost as well as I do. But, don't worry, I'm going to have Lieutenant Karn help out while the Detector is at UNITY."

"Thanks. I could use a hand," she smiled.

Rick moved away from his desk to the door.

"Come, I need to go for a walk," he said.

They walked out of the engineering area into the corridor.

"I almost forget, a non-SSF ship, the Lagash, will be making an emergency stop within the hour," Rick said. "She has been given clearance. Apparently, she has suffered a problem of some sort with her warp core and ours was the closest facility."

"We'll be ready," she said.

"Her crew will be premitted 24-hour leave on the starbase, but from what I've been told, her chief engineer always remands behind. He doesn't trust anyone working on his ship unless he's there to supervise. Even so, you are still on direct charge of any repairs. If he gives you any trouble, let me know and I'll take care of it myself."

Lara just shrugged, "Don't worry, I'm sure I can handle him myself."

Rick smiled, "I don't doubt you ..."

She turned just as Rick came crashing onto the deck.

"Rick!" she shouted out as she knelt down next to him. "Proietti to sickbay. I have a medical emergency."

"Belay that," she heard Rick's weak voice as he slowly opened his eyes and looked up at her.

"But, sir?"

"I'm OK," he said, having her to help him stand. "How long was I out?"

"Just a few seconds."

"Really? Usually, I'm out for a few minutes," he replied, clearing the fog out of his head.

"I still think we should stop by sickbay."

"No. There is nothing they can do," he turned to face the concerned engineer. "Don't worry. I'll be fine. I get these blackouts every couple of months. I'm surprised this is the first one I've had in front of you."

Rick smiled, "You, on the other hand, look like a nervous wreck."

"I'm OK. That was just a frightening experience."

"Well, anyhow, where were we?" Rick asked as they continued walking down the corridor as if nothing had happened.

[USS Chimera] SD 240908.20 | Joint Log | RAdm. Guzman & MGen. Sharpe (with guest stars)

"Peter Miller" <peter@millerfamily.plus.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

=/\= Padassa Station =/\=

The USS Titan arrived at Padassa Station, and assumed
position to begin mass transport of the marines and their
equipment as soon as permission was granted. For Richard
Sharpe however, he had to go aboard first, with his staff,
to meet Admiral Guzman, face to face, as well as anyone else
he needed to be introduced to.

Dusting off his uniform, he led his team onto the
transporter padd of one of the standard transporter rooms.
With him were Major Westbourne, Marine Lieutenant Daniels,
Lieutenant Colonel Strayer and Sergeant Major Harper. Once
on the pad, he nodded to the ensign, and they transported
over to Padassa.

Once notified about the soon-to-happen arrival of the USS
Titan with General Sharpe and his marine troops, Shane
called Major Kinn and both the Klingon and Quorum
Ambassadors. All together will meet the General and his
staff. It was Padassa command centre that was chosen for the
meeting, it was both large enough and representative. The
command centre was manned by Klingons mostly, but a few
humans and quorum folks were present as well.

Shane gave a nod to a Lieutenant behind a comm. console who
immediately send green light to the Titan. After just a few
seconds ... a small party of green clad marines appeared in
the typical blue-ish transporter beam effect. It was Shane
who spoke first: "General Sharpe, it's nice to meet you in
person at last. Welcome on Padassa"

Richard stepped off the PADD and stood before the Rear
Admiral. "Admiral Guzman, it is indeed a pleasure." He said,
warmly.

Shane smiled at the tall General and said: "Please let me
introduce both the Klingon Ambassador and Quorum Ambassador.
Ambassadors, this is General Sharpe, Commander of SSF 1st
MEF. He will be in charge of all Starfleet Forces on this
station when I return to UNITY."

"Ambassadors." Richard said, nodding. He had to admit to a
bit of surprise at the news that Shane would be leaving. He
assumed that the Admiral would be staying on, but he said
nothing.
"General," the stoic Commander Kortag'h greeted the marine
flag officer in deep voice, planting his right fist over his
chest in honorary salute.

"Ambassador Sa'Kara is greatly pleased to make your
acquaintance, General Major," Interpreter Hudra said with a
deep bow, unaware that he got the rank wrong.

It was Shane was spoke again: "Gentleman, time is precious
and therefore I will be brief. Details about operation MAGNA
and Klingon and Quorum participation will be relayed to you
shortly. General Sharpe received his orders already and the
part concerning this section is to support Klingon troops in
securing this station, which will remain under Klingon
command. Quorum forces have their own 'space' on Padassa,
where they may deploy their ops centre."

Everyone listened to what the Admiral was saying, so Shane
went on.

"Needles to say," Shane said, "that I hope for a strong
alliance between our forces ...as well as with Erassians
once they arrive. I know there has been some hesitation in
Klingon high council about the current war, but I hope power
struggles won't prevent our honorable Klingon warriors to
strike hard where needed"

"I'll make sure of it," Kortag'h responded. "Any warrior who
disobeys my orders will find himself thrust out of an
airlock."

Looking at the Quorum Ambassador, Shane said to the
spokesman: "Our alliance with the Quorum people is new and
unproven to both sides, but please do not hesitate to
contact General Sharpe with any request for support. The
General will be responsible for deploying ground troops to
any and all Romulan held installations in this sector, so
please coordinate with him the relevance of each such
installation as well as any special needs our Quorum friends
may have"

"Bear in mind, I only brought a Battalion to secure this
station, but if you have further needs, I can contact any of
the regiments within the First Task Force for resources."
Richard said.

====== Some later ======

Once the meeting was over, Shane and Richard walked along a
corridor alone - with their respective guards following
only. It was the personal part of the arrival conversation
between the two flag officers.

"I am sorry to leave you here alone, General" Shane said,
"but Starfleet Command requires my presence on UNITY.
Obviously they think that I am a perfect target for Romulan
galae or Tal'shiar ... and considering the diabolic plan of
Mr. Harker, I cannot blame them."

"Nor I, but surely I'm as valuable a target as yourself." He
said. "But I'm used to it."
"I'd like to ask you to be as gentle with our allies as
possible. We need Klingon support in this war and this is
maybe the only chance we have. Klingon high council is
divided in the question of supporting us in the war and
since the Erassian fleet destroyed one of their mining
colonies a while ago, the support was more the cold from
their side."
"I have good relations with the Klingon's." Richard said.
"And I'm sure I'm more militaristic than you are, which
should please the Erassian military no end. What's this
about an Erassian attack? Anything I need to know?"

"The story behind the Erassian attack on that colony is too
long for now, but let's say that we discovered a connection
between the Romulans and one Klingon General. Captain
Chisulo was send to investigate the matter ... and it ended
in Erassians destroying a whole colony. To be honest, I am
not very surprised about the KLingon hesitation to help us
after such an accident. The fact that we got the Klingons to
help us here could be a break-through in this war and we can
not allow this chance to slip. That's partially the reason
why will this station remain under Klingon control. We do
not need this station, but we need Klingon support."

"How is this going to work?" Richard needed to be sure of
logistics. "I outrank the Klingon representative. I'm also
not going to allow Klingon officers to use my marines as
cannon fodder for their insane lust to go visit their
ancestors in Sto'va'kor."

Nodding Shane said: "Just as you said. You're in charge of
the Alpha group of operation Magna. All Starfleet forces
here follow your orders. Your job on Padassa is to keep this
station secure and out of Romulan grasp. Taking over other
installations in this sector is in your hands, Klingons and
Erassians are welcome to join, but command there is yours."

Richard nodded. "Thank you for clearing that up sir."

"I would not bother much about Klingons using your troops as
cannon fodder. It's usual Klingons who lead the way in epic
battles. They do not need 'meager' humans to fight for them.
Just have them having their fun and fight some Romulans
while you take over all remaining installations. Klingons
will play a more significant role once we will attempt to
strike deeper in Romulan territory"

Again Richard nodded. "I'll bear that in mind. Their space, my space kind of
deal."

"Another point. There is something wrong happening around. I
just found the body of Mr. Harker and Samantha Palmer in a
stasis box here. Weird is that I have a second body of Mr.
Harker in Qashqai's sickbay. Preliminary scans indicate that
none is a clone, so I am stuck with two genuine dead bodies
of the same person. We are dealing with time travel or some
multi-dimension anomaly or something like that ... and none
is good for us. Maybe you could watch for anything unusual
indicating that way"

"We're Starfleet Officer's Admiral, weird is part of the routine, so unusual
should be a walk in the park." Richard said, smiling.

"Well then, we know both what to do, General. One more thing
.." Shane said smiling, "please do not let yourself killed.
If we are going to win this war, I need you on top of the
MEF. I know your experience is rich, but please do not
underestimate Tal'shiar's ability. We are in their space ...
"

"I don't intend to get killed Admiral." Richard said. "I suspect my Sergeant
Major would kill me if I went and got myself killed. I swear he missed his
calling as a mother-hen."

[USS Chimera] [Bravo] SD 240908.17 || 240908.19 || Joint Duty Log || ASEC Elbrun + CSEC Cortez

 -= USS Chimera =-

The ship was comparable to an ant hill. Everyone, all department mixed, moved with purpose in their strides, a common effort for the mission to come. Andrus ducked and dodged around personnel too busy to even notice him as he walked the ship's corridors.

He had dropped his gear in his quarters and headed straight to the security department where he had to report in to his department head. According to the information he had within his PADD, he was one Major Cortez. What came to mind was Cortez, the conquistador. Spains envoy to the new land, in earth's history. Hope this 25th century version was not about social cleansing like that of south america.

He entered the security department, which was like a bee hive. He saw the office in question but there was already an PFC chiming at the door, so Andrus stood back and waited. That one probably had a more important assignment than his own 'reporting for duty, sir.' arrival protocol Strafleet had.

The PFC chimed once, twice and sighed as he turned around and moved on to other things. The major was not in.

''Computer, locate Major Cortez, Chief Security Officer.''

''Major Cortez is in holodeck 2'' It replied.

Andrus left the department as he had found it. As he thought nobody paid a cadet any attention, since he was not quite an officer yet, he was still considered a recruit. He had to wait for two turbolifts before the doors parted for him. Even the ship was not paying him any attention. He smirked and shook his head in disbelief, but it was suppose to happen. They where at war where they not?

Eventually, he entered the holodeck 2. There he saw men and women training unarmed combat techniques. He looked about and saw the golden leaf of a major on a marine. ''Must be him.'' Andrus told himself as he walked over to the man supervising his troops...

Cortez stood at the back, studying the men and women in front of him.  He wasn't in a particularly good mood after his run-in with that Ka`Leigh female earlier in the day and his mind kept running over scenarios where a friendly fire incident might accidentally blow her in half.  He grinned knowing he would never do that.

"Aikers", he yelled towards one of the men who happened to be leaning against a wall.  "Are you tired?", he inquired.

"No sir", the man jumped up.

"Good, then do ten laps", Richard's voice boomed.   He had just turned to check the time when a dark haired Betazoid caught his eye.

Andrus stopped at attention a pace away from the Major. From what he could feel empathically, the major was pissed off. Well there was no two way of doing this.

''Good day Major. Cadet Andrus Elbrum boarding and reporting for duty sir.'' He did not even extend his hand to show the Major the PADD with his orders, better aire on caution. Isn't that what they showed us at the academy, when in first contact situation?

"Good for who?", Richard answered. Before the man could respond he pressed on, "Orders?", he said holding out his hand for the PADD.

Andrus replied by extending his PADD and purpofully handed it to the major like a man would do. Sharp and strong movement, yet very controled.

Richard held the PADD to his face and took a few seconds to flip through it.  Without looking up he started to talk.  "I'll save the candle lit dinner for another time and cut to the chase, and I'm going to make myself clear though,  because I do it for everyone the first time. First of all this is my house. My rules, my game, my word is final. "  He paused and looked back up at Elbrum, "I don't care if you've heard that a thousand times before, if you think I'm a prick, or even if you think you're better than me. You're SF, and that's a good starting background so I don't expect we'll have any trouble there." he paused and let his words sink in.

Andrus literally ran the speech a second time in his mind. It took a faction of a second, but somehow he already liked the man, surprisingly. Although he promised himself he would shoot the man if this one track minded officer threw away his life uselessly without asking for a second opinion.

Cortez continued, "It sais here you have a degree in Business Administration", he lifted an eyebrow, tossing the PADD back to the Cadet, "What are you doing here?"

Andrus slammed the flying PADD to his chest. It was the best he could do for the circumstance. He never held up a mental scan of the people around him, unlike other Betazoids, it took some part of his consciousness so he would have an empty stare, and this was not the place nor the time.

"Business administration was my father's wishes. I on the other hand, wanted to live more. I'm not the kind of man that goes for a desk job, sir." Of course he had not planned to land himself a fourth year cadet, knowing that his cadet tour would be spent on a ship headed for war. first and possibly last assignment. But in his last year, he had stuck with the program. At this time and date it was way too late to quit. He wasn't gonna give credit to his father, who was against him being here.

Cortez held back a small smile.  There was something about holding your life in your own hands, making your own destiny and all that nonsense that Cortez liked about this mans answer.  "Well then Cadet Elbrun, welcome to the team.", without pausing he continued on, "I need someone to conduct a complete inventory of the weapons and gear being loaded into Cargo Bay Three, and your it.  They should be done unloading within the hour, I want the report on my desk by 0700 tomorrow morning."  he paused for a second.  "If any of our 'guests' give you a hard time, send them directly to me".

Pausing for a moment, he added, "Allright, Your dismissed".

-=-/-\-=- Lieutenant Junior Grade Nanee Quiocho's Quarters -=-/-\-=-

Nanee came back to her quarters after needing to get away from what seemed the four wall box.  She had eaten at the mess hall and decided to go back to her quarters for some rest.  She found out before she left Sickbay that she would need to meet with her new CMO and get an idea of what he, apparently, has in mind for the department.  She was excited to see such new faces, but everyone could still tell that she was timid and sadly it had made Nanee standoffish.  Her shyness has masked her personality and since she has joined the Chimera Crew hasn't made any friends or people she can trust real well yet.

Nanee was having another downer day and decide to hand write her cousin a letter to better get her frustrations out and whether or not her cousin would get this letter or not, Nanee didn't care.

~`~

Dear MaiKai,

I hope all is well on Unity with the small little family you have made and I hope pregnancy is making you all a better glow.  Now I don't mean to put a damper on your day or stress you over the little things, but I've wanted to write to you some of my frustrations in hopes some day you'll understand.

I know times have been rough for you, and some more than I could imagine.  I'd like to say I understand, but I know I fully won't.  I'd like to tell you how sorry I am for the loss we both have had of our childhood from having to grow up so quickly, but I can't say I have regret it.  I know Ohana and it's meaning has been at loss to the both of us, me especially since you have Rick, Rachel and one on the way.  As grandfather would say, "It's small and broken, but still good".  It's still good.  I've tried to make efforts to rekindle the communication and even the trust of our other immediate family and I think it's time you've made some more effort yourself.  It's been how long since you've talked to you parents or brother? Probably almost a decade? And for what Mai? To prove a point? To write them off for their mistakes?  I just don't understand where you get off being this rock of a person, unwilling to sway to be more open minded.  I know it may be asking a lot, but seriously, what does it hurt to at least write them telling them about your new family, about the accomplishments you have made and asking them the same?  Just to catch up.  I'm not asking for apologies or even for reunion just effort. Just to say you tried..

I'm sorry if I have voiced too much.  I'd even go as far to say I haven't voiced enough.  Please don't bear a grudge on me like you have so many others.  I still need you in my life. I need you to understand I just want what's best for us and for the family. WE need you. It's just not the same..

Love Your Cousin,

              Nanee Quiocho

Nanee wiped the tears from her eyes and tried to dab dry the tear streaked marks on the letter she had finished.  Nanee debated whether to ball it up and start all over, but decided to leave it on the table for now as she took a nap.  She'd feel better maybe after a nap.

MaiKai was now in her and Rick's renovated study.  It was made from a supply closet so she'd be able to do most of her work in their quarters instead of at her office in Sickbay.  Being five months pregnant Mai was starting to think whether she should do her work from her bed at that, but she refused to revert that low as of yet.  She figured by the sixth or seventh month she could slow work down a bit more then.

She was almost done filtering through padds when Rachel ran up and hugged her.  She tried to fit her arms around her mother, but was starting not to be able to touch her own fingers in the back of the hug.

"Mommy, I can't give you a full hug," Rachel seemed a bit upset by what seemed her own inability, but Mai saw through.

"No, you still can. Come here," Mai picked her up the best she could so Rachel was now sitting on her lap.  MaiKai nudged at her daughter's arms motioning to Ray to put her arms around her now.  Fittingly, Rachel could hold her mother around her neck in a firm hug.

"See I told you so," Mai started tickling her.

Rachel giggled until Mai seized.  "When will the baby get here?" Rachel was very adamant on knowing at this point.  She put a hand on her hip like she has seen her mother do while talking to her daddy.

"Not for a while still.  We all have to be very patient.  Until then you have to be my little helper," Mai smiled back at her daughter.  She was just impatient and excited as she was.

"Okay, I like doing that anyway.  Will I have a brother or a sister?" Rachel tugged on her mother's shirt proving that she needed to know that too.

"Well, you don't want it to be a surprise?" Mai asked as she resituated Rachel on her lap more comfortably.

"I guess so," Rachel hung her head low.

MaiKai lifted her daughter's chin so she was peering into her eyes, "We'll all know soon enough".

Mai put Rachel down and took her time to stand up.  MaiKai was feeling a little more energized today.

"How about we cook daddy dinner? I need your help to do it though," Mai asked of her.

Rachel kissed her mommy's tummy before she grabbed her hand in hers. "Well then, let's go!"

[USS Chimera] ALPHA / USS Quasar SD 240908.19 Duty log: Commander Summers

rangi.summers@mojwap.sk wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

*** Morgue * USS Quasar ***

It was almost a day since the Quasar had docked at Padassa,
taking her place at the end of one of the four arms of the
station that radiated from a central hub. They had been
directed to Khaelfa hwi...Dock one.. beside the Klingon ship
IKV Tuer.
The station had other ships docked there too.
A Quorum ship, the USS Valiant and IKV Hakask all shared
the opposite arm, Khealfa sei...Dock three... whilst USS
Qashqai had the luxery of Khealfa kre...Dock two... to
herself.
USS Magellan and Akira were on constant patrol as were two
Klingon ships, a forbidding yet reassuring security
presence.

Rangi had seen Qashqai from a distance as Quasar had made
her approach and felt happy to be nearer to Shane despite
the serious nature of their mission.
On arrival, Bren had left almost immediately for a meeting
with the Rear Admiral and Rangi had spoken briefly to him
herself, a purely 'formal' duty conversation concerning the
dead Starfleet members found on the station.

Captain Nicols had willingly agreed to Rangis request that
the Quasars morgue and a section of the sickbay be given
over for her sole use in performing the autopsies.
She understood that Rangi would work alone because of the
need for high level clearance and thats where she was now,
pushing a body into the shining cleanliness of a morgue
chamber, the fifth time she had done so that day.

The drawer sealed itself and Rangi turned away releasing a
long breath. She would examine one more body and then stop
for the day.

The examination of the dead bodies was, in a way, a routine
examination but, apart from finding out the cause of their
deaths, Rangi had to identify them too. That was where the
need for her high clearance level came in, for they were
Starfleet agents whose whereabouts and true identities were
secret from all but a few.

Their DNA profiles would prove who they were and once she
had ascertained the reason for their death, she could clear
them to be repatriated.
Somewhere between leaving the morgue and their return to
their grieving families, each individual would be given a
ficticious cause of death circumstance.

In times of war it was often 'killed in action' but other
avenues were always open, an accident, an illness, something
that would explain their death but never reveal what the
nature of their work had been.
Noone would ever know they had died here on Padassa at the
hands of Romulans.

There were seventeen bodies to examine, eight of those were
Vulcan but the one Rangi chose next was someone already
known to her. It was the man she had been imprisoned with
but more than that, he had been a friend.
She consulted the medpadd in her hand and opened a new
section before returning to the morgue drawers and opening
one marked A 12, stood for a moment looking down at the face
of Liev Varis and she wondered if Bren might ask to see him.
It was always comforting to think that a loved one had died
peacefully and in death indeed 'looked' peaceful but it was
far from that case in this instance.

Liev had been ill treated for some time.
She had known this as soon as she had seen him in the cell
but then she had only been able to guess at his true
condition. Now she found the full story of his imprisonment
written in the remains of his body.

She had verified his identity from his DNA and then listed
all other findings, speaking in a quiet and calm voice which
the computer transcribed onto the medical record.

She listed the two broken ribs partially healed, the tear in
his left kidney, trauma to his left shoulder, a hairline
fracture in his cheekbone and mutiple bruising of varying
age all of which she attributed to a severe beating from a
heavy blunt instrument.

Malnutrition had had a large part to play in his death but
there was also brain damage, mulifocal injuries which she
noted in detail.
These had been caused initially by the device implanted at
the base of his skull.

He had told her that the Romulans had used the device as a
sort of socket which had joined to a machine of some kind
that could extract memories. How this worked she was not
sure and noted that as in the other cases, the device itself
would need further examination.

It was a chilling thought that all the agents had been
subjected to this treatment and who knew what information
had been obtained?
Repeated exposure would presumably have revealed more and
more information as the bodies defences became weakened and
mental control diminished.
Countless others could have been compromised ,along with
missions both completed and ongoing but that side of the
affair was for others to determine.

More than an hour and a half passed before she could finally
say : " Post mortem completed at 17.05 ships time stardate
24.09.08 point 19..Major Varis remains are cleared for
release. End report."

The computer beeped compliance as Rangi returned Lievs body
to the A12 drawer.
She would be meeting Shane in the evening and although it
was something she looked forward too, her mood was sombre
after the days work.

She paused and looked again at Lievs face, with its
yellowing skin pulled tight across the bones and teeth
revealed between parted lips.It was such a contrast to the
man she had known before and she felt a great weight of
sadness at the fact that he had died in such a way.

The drawer sealed itself with a quiet 'hiss' and Rangi
walked to the door, turned and glanced around the room,
checking that it was left neat and orderly.
Satisfied that it was, she headed for her quarters where she
would shower and get ready for the evening.

"I know its not desirable to leave people there to die but it is
necessary.  As a former ship Captain you know it's sometimes necessary
to sacrifice a crewman to save the ship.  As a General it's worse you
have to bear the burden of responsibility for not just one ship but
many and plan not just for the coming battle, but for the one after
that and the one after that.  Beyond that I have not just the lives of
the people in the fleet riding on this but the lives of the twelve
billion citizens of the Alliance on my shoulders.  As the great
Athenian General Alcibiades once said 'I follow a goddess and her name
is Necessity'.  Hate me if you must Captain, have the families of
those people sue me and the entire Alliance but there will be no
rescue mission."  Viktor said forcibly his all green eyes boring into
the Starfleet Officer in front of him.

The Starfleet captain did not flinch. "As a Starfleet Captain I have learned to expect the unexpected. You may not think highly of Starfleet Officers, General, but we are a resourceful bunch. I believe they may yet survive." Chisulo replied. "I will wait until the conclusion of this operation to write any letters of condolence. Now, is there anything I can help you with in preparation for the battle that awaits us?"

[USS Chimera] SD 240908.18 || Beta || Briefing Log || Capt Rojac ||

[Conference Room - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

"Glad you all could make it." Rojac said to the senior staff gathered around the conference table. Stars streamed by behind them as the ship cruised along at warp speed toward the Karador Sector - the launching point for Beta Group's mission in Operation Magna. "And think you for tuning in." Rojac nodded to the viewscreens in the aft section of the room that were broadcasting the briefing to the Rapier and Eagle's conference rooms.

"As you all know, we are all art of Task Group Beta in Operation Magna. We are assigned the task of assaulting a suspected Romulan base in the Stellar Nursery region of Quorum space." Rojac stated. "Starfleet only recently deduced this base's location - and we have yet to get a visual of the location. We'll be the first to lay eyes on it. The intelligence we have so far is limited to the warp trails and tracked traffic coming to and from the area."

The Captain reached down to a console at his end of the table and tapped in a few commands. The holographic emitters projected a three-dimensional map of the Stellar Nursery Region. "Long Range scanners cannot get through the antiproton levels, or the residual radiation present in stellar birth; but thanks to our recent operations at Padassa Station we have gathered enough data to point us in the general direction."

"As you can see here," he witched the view to a wider map of the war theater, "the operatives we freed from Padassa were able to track many ships from this region to Romulan Efforts in the Rios, V'Tar, and Khasazi Pass areas of space." As he spoke red arrows emanated from the stellar nursery to the mentioned areas of space. "Starfleet Intelligence believes that there is a shipyard present - possibly the same shipyard that produced the Thalaron Cruisers that attacked V'Tar."

Cropa took to his seat and crossed his arms across his chest. "If there is a shipyard here, and as major of a base as they believe there is, it could explain why such a mass majority of the war has been fought along this front, and not along the area of space closer to Romulus. Intelligence believes that the Tal Shiar, or another branch of the Romulan military has relocated the base of operations out of this area as an effort to off-balance Starfleet's efforts in the war." Rojac smirked, "But we're not so easily fooled."

"But we're a small strike group, and our success is resting on the efforts of our diversionary groups: Alpha Group in Padassa and Charlie Group in Erassian Space." Rojac said. "Our ships have been refitted with Erassian stealth plating technology to help keep us hidden in the harsh environment of the Stellar Nursery - where traditional cloaking technology will not work. Still, it is a dangerous mission to undertake." Rojac said.

"The Century Class is a battleship with top-of-the-line weaponry and a fighter squadron aboard. As such, the Chimera will be the front-line ship and will go into the base head first." Rojac said, switching the holographic projector's slide to that of a simulated mock up of a standard romulan base (colored in green) with a blue representation of the Chimera flying straight toward it. "The Eagle is a katana class, built for stealth and maneuverability. As the Chimera assaults the front-side of the installation, the Eagle will slip around back. Her job is to insert our infilitration teams once the deflector shields are down and then attack from the rear-side." Rojac said, looking toward the port viewer at the Eagle's senior staff. "The Rapier is a sabre-class built for speed and will be our back-up. If things get too heated Commander Trzetrzelewska is ordered to head back to UNITY an request back-up. Until then, they are to provide support in ship-to-ship combat with the Lancer and Erassian Squadrons."

Rojac crossed his arms atop the table. "Understood? Now each ship's CO will brief their senior staffs for their orders in the upcoming operation." Rojac said. Soon after, the screens with the Eagle and Rapier's conference rooms disappeared. He looked around the room as the officer gathered before him. "So, here we are. The Chimer is taking the deadliest position in this upcoming fight. I need your departments in the best possible shape to ensure our success."

He turned his focus to Lt Fisher, "Mr. Fisher, I'm expecting heavy casualties in this battle. I need your department to be prepared. The enlisted crew quarters in the forward section of deck 10 can be reconfigured into traige and medbay facilities. The deck lobby can be reconfigured into a nurses station. Lt Vaughn and his department will help you in the transformation." Rojac nodded to the Acting Chief of Operation as he said the last part.

"Lieutenant Kroitzer, I need your team to work with the tactical department to make sure our new cloaking system is not compromised. All power supplies and fluctuations must be monitored 24/7. Any anomalies will need to be investigated and remedied around the clock." He turned to Levison, "that means that you need a man at Auxiliary tactical dedicated to monitoring the cloak systems, Commander, in addition to the drills leading up to the battle."

"As for the drills," Rojac turned to Major Walters, "Major Walters will be running battle simulations from the bridge at 1800 and 2000 hours tonight. The first drill is for alpha shift, the second for beta. Delta and Gamma should be on stand-by for tonight and ready to fill-in if need be during the operation." Rojac turned to his new XO, "I'm sure you can handle it, Major. I will be making rounds during the simulations to ensure each department is ready."

Rojac leaned back and crossed his arms. "Other than that, just make sure everyone is ready for battle in the morning. We go to Red Alert at 1200. If there are any questions, you may see me in my Ready Room and I will answer them. If there is nothing else, report to your department and brief them." The Captain stood. "That is all. Good hunting."

[USS Chimera] SD240908.17 Joint Duty Log - MCapt/Lt COps/AMO Jade Reese and Theodore Hastings - "More Testing" Part IV

[Infirmary, SB UNITY]

Jade nodded knowing that the why type questions couldn't be

answered until the results could be analyzed but she was

open to any suggestions to find a way to control it and get

rid of the white noise. "I'm all ears and thoughts

apparently," Jade said allowing a small grin to come across

her, "anything to help control the white noise so I won't

get these headaches." Jade added as she settled back into

the chair.

" What I think would be a good option for you is to take

advice from a telepath...someone who could help you learn to

control every aspect. The person who I have in mind is a

doctor and it would be valuable for us as well as for you if

the medical side of it could be monitored."

He looked suddenly doubtful. " Its not that we want to treat

you as a test case." he added. " Its just that a situatiion

such as this one is extremely rare."

"I also think that would be a good idea seeing that I just

learned of this ability." Jade said, "I don't see it as a

test case I see that what I'm going through will help out

the next person who may go through this." Jade said smiling

seeing that she was helping the next person instead of being

the scientific Guinea pig. "Who is this doctor you have in

mind?" Jade asked realizing that she was getting to know a

lot of the doctors on UNITY.

Theodore, pleased at Jades responce replied: "  Lieutenant

Commander T'Vel. She is a Vulcan and currently the Deputy

CMO here. She knows of your case and is interested. May I

contact her then and refer your case to her?"

"No go ahead and contact the Cmdr I look forward to meeting

with her." Jade said smiling glad at the progress that was

being made to figure out what was going on.

Theodore gave a satisfied nod.

" Ok, that just about wraps it all up for now then. " he

said, pushing himself to an upright stance. " Try not to be

so worried about it ok? It's difficult but there's light at

the end of the tunnel now."

Standing up Jade nodded to the doctor, "thank you so much for taking the time for helping me figure out what's going on." Jade said giving the doctor a smile. She then headed out for some reason she felt tired even though she was only there for a few hours but like finding out some new things it can take a lot out of you.

Theodore watched her leave then returned to the inner room

and began to run through the test results. There was reams

of it and he knew it would take some time to get a detailed

breakdown.

After a few minutes he broke off and put through a call to

T'Vel telling her that he had the tests were completed and

the data was ready for analysis. He also said that Jade was

keen to meet someone who could help her begin to understand

her new ability.
