[USS Chimera] SD240908.16 Duty Log - MCapt/Lt COps/AMO Jade Reese and Theodore Hastings - "More Testing" Part II

[Infirmary, UNITY]

It was 0850 when Jade walked into the infirmary for the
third time this week but this time it felt different it felt
like she was going to be getting some real answers. Once
inside the waiting area Jade approached the receptionist
like every other time, "Morning I have a 9 o'clock appoint
with Doctor Hastings." Jade said knowing that she was early
but you never know he might be ready.

The nurse checked the appointment lists, found  the one
headed; ' Neurology, Hastings Theordore' looked back at Jade
and queried : " Jade Reece?"
Recieving a nod and small smile in answer, she aksed her to
wait 'just a moment'.

The receptionist went back to go find the doctor and Jade
went to go take a seat in the waiting room where there were
PADDs with magazine articles mainly to help keep the
patients calm, relaxed and not bored while waiting to see
the doctor. Jade was reading about popular sports on Earth
mainly ones in the water and she decided next time she has
some RnR she would go and try some of them for herself.

"The Doctor is ready to see you now."
The nurse had returned and as Jade laid the padd aside and
stood up from her seat, the nurse pointed directions.
" Straight along the corridor, second left, first right Room
101."

"Thank you." Jade said as she stood up and followed the
nurse to the entrance of the hallway and followed the
directions to where Dr Hastings room was. Once at the room
Jade did a quick knock before opening the door and walking
in.

"Good morning" Theordore said brightly as soon as Jade
entered the room. " "Please come in...take a seat. I'm
going to run through a few things and then we can begin the
tests."

"Good morning Doctor." Jade said returning the smile and
walking over and taking a seat in the chair actually looking
forward to working on some of these tests.

" Basically all it involves is answering a few simple
questions and puzzles. You will be in a small, sound proof

room but I will be monitoring your..brain waves by means of
sensors  around you."
He lookedat Jade as though he had just thought of something.

"You're not claustrophbic are you?" he asked.

"Alright it all sounds all straight forward." Jade said
smiling moving a bit in the chair getting comfortable,
"alright I'm ready to get started." Jade said drumming her
fingers on the chairs armrests. "Nope I am not
claustrophobic." Jade said.

" Good!" Theodore gave her a satisfied smile. " Ok...the
first series will involve simple logic. On the screen
there.." he indicated the panel on the opposite wall "....
will appear number sequences, colour patterns, word
association that type of thing. All you have to do is think
what the following number , colour or word is going to be. I
will be through here.." again he pointed to an adjoining
room "...monitoring all you do..ok?"

The tests started as soon as Hastings made it into his
little control room it took a couple of seconds for the
tests to appear on the monitor but they changed once Jade
give her answer. The first set were saying the next or

missing number in a series the first one was quite easy it

was numbers being doubled starting with 3, 9, 81, ..... Jade
took a moment to do the math in her head which she excelled
at, "6,561." When she said that the screen changed with a
new series appearing. There was about fifteen of these in
the series and they switched between numbers and color
sequences.

"That's fine." Theodores disembodied voice said. " Now for
this series you'll see a succession of images but I want you
to tell me not what you see but what you 'think' you see.
Here's an example...."

The screen displayed a picture of a small grey and white
striped kitten with the typical appealing face of its age.

While Jade was concentrating on the image something
extraordinary and bizarre happened which she couldn't
explain or figure out what was happening. At first it was
freaking her out but instead of saying something she
continued on with the tests hoping that maybe the scans
picked something up. For what ever reason a part of her
brain or at least she was assuming it was a part of her
brain was telling her to say dog, "um... "she hesitated"...
a dog." Jade finally said with that the image changed and a
new picture appeared and the same thing happened. "A Klingon
Targ." Jaded said a little bit more confident. This went on
for about twenty five images.

" Well done." came Theodores voice again. The screen went
blank and soon afterwards he appeared in the doorway.
" I've had some interesting results. " he said "..and if
you're not too tired there's one more sequence I'd like to
try."

"Um I can do some more tests." Jade said seeing no harm in
doing another test its been a couple of days since she has
had a really bad headache.

" This time I'll leave you in here as before...you just
relax and try not to think of anything in particular but I'd
like you to tell me if any image or thought becomes vivid.
Think you can do that?"

"Yes I can." Jade said smiling and closing her eyes to
become more relaxed, "alright I'm seeing a beach or plains I
can't really tell." Jade said taking a deep breath in, "I'm
also seeing a house on a small cliff and that about it."
Jade said trying to stay relaxed but thoughts of am I doing
good and if the doctor is getting the right readings were
always coming to mind.

Inside his own room, Theodore put aside the picture he had
been studying. It was a ruin standing on a prominent
headland over looking a dried up seabed, a famous scene from
an area of Deltus 4. He laid the picture aside and took up
another, checked the
steady stream of scan data rolling onto the screen in front
of him and saw that Jade had relaxed again. He looked at the
picture intently and waited for the result.

Once Jade felt relaxed again something weird happened just
like with the ink plot tests an idea popped into her head
but it didn't feel like hers. "This time I'm getting a
picture of a night sky with stars but I can't make out any
of the constellations." Jade said trying to stay relaxed to
see what else might come, "hold on I'm also seeing a small
cottage with a wooden fence holding in some kind of live
stock and a farmer watching them." Jade said.

" Excellent." Theodore said " Lets try one more shall we?"
he asked, his voice over the intercom sounding more than
satisfied.
