[USS Chimera] SD: 240906.06 Duty Log, MCapt. Anya Xerxes, Flight Ops CO

-----------

Anya banked her fighter hard enough to feel the G's even thought the inertial dampers were functioning just so she could burn another of the lazed anti-proton towers with the pulse phaser cannon on the nose of the fighter.  Bringing her fighter around for another pass she barely managed to visually ID the smoking heap of slag that had been the tower.  She wasn't alone in targeting the anti-proton towers by a long shot though each flight of Lancers had bagged at least three towers and it was beginning to tell.  Sensors were beginning to work again at least as much as this icy hellhole would allow.

Canna III had been a real pain in the ass to deal with three years ago and it just went to show that nothing really changed with time.  At least not here anyway.  She was interrupted from her thoughts by a comm channel from Two Flight, more specifically it's flight lead and her XO.  "Go ahead Five."  She said as she opened the channel.

"Lead, most of the towers are down.  Anti-air is at virtually zero.  Even so we still cant see worth a damn and if we try and support our ground forces we're likely to have a blue on blue scenario."  First Lieutenant David Lanner said loudly due to the comm interference.

Anya shuddered at the mention of a blue on blue.  It was the definition of one allied unit firing on another allied unit due to the fog of war effect where due to flawed intel, faulty judgement or even some overworked ATC mixing up some coordinates.  Anya knew what the aftermath of such an incident looked like, the Solrin War definitely wasn't an easy one.  "I agree with you Five.  Much as I wish we could be of more use here we're flying blind.  Any strafing runs on a likely target and we'll likely kill one of our own.  I'll give the order to bug out."

"Rodger that lead.  Five out."  David said as he cut the comm channel.

Anya was about to open the channel to all the operation fighters when she had another comm transmission this time from First Lieutenant Narvel Tenoro the trill pilot of Sun God the unit's AWACS.  "Captain we've got a major problem up here with one of the Romulan Troop Transports."

"What is it Sun God.  Patch it through to me on the combat data stream."  Anya replied.  Her main screen filled with an image of large panels opening up on the underside of the transport.  "What am I looking at Sun God?"

The image on her monitor zoomed in on one of the open recesses behind a panel.  Sun God answered back quietly.  "Your looking at our worst fear Captain."

As the image finally stabilised Anya got a good look at what was in the recess.  "Holy shit...a Scorpion Two..."

[USS Chimera] SD: 240906.06 Joint NPC Log, 1Lt. Johann Fosters/Pvt. Roquette Lecuyer, ASec/ASec

=/\= Transporter Room 1  =/\=

Roquette looked around at the rest of the security team.  {I wonder what they're thinking.  Are they scared ... excited?}  She took a couple of even calming breaths to keep herself from bouncing in place with her excitement and from pacing with the thread of fear that seemed to be running through her system.

First Lieutenant Johann Fosters walked into the transporter room and looked at his team that was prepping to storm one of the Breen freighters.  He saw one of the younger members looking around nervously and walked up and slapped her on the back. "Relax kid, it ain't gonna be so bad."

Roquette smiled, "Aye, Aye, Sir."  It seemed like it was only a moment or two later when they were engulfed by a blurry blue field.  Rockie murmured, "Here we go?"

They emerged at a T junction and Johann split his six man team into pairs and sent them down the individual corridors.  "Okay Rookie your with me, we're going to check out the cargo bay."
Roquette stood with her phaser rifle in a ready position and nodded as she fell into place.

"So what rookie, is this your first away mission?" Johann asked as they moved cautiously towards the cargo bay.

"Yes, Sir," she whispered.  The magnetic sound of a door sealing had her jumping fortunately she had more control than she thought for her gun didn't go off too.

"Just relax kid and keep your eyes open, that's all I can ask of you."  Johann motioned for silence as they slipped into the main cargo bay.  Silently they moved along the upper catwalk and down the stairs to the bottom.

She took a calming breath as she nodded her response.  Her steps were sure footed but light and quiet.  She heard the steps creek under the Lieutenant's weight ever so slightly as they descended the stairs from the catwalk.  At the bottom she moved to the opposite side of the steps and scanned the room.

Johann sidled up to one of the Breen storage crates and cracked it open. After the rush of air into the container the cold air that seeped out surprised him.  Inside it looked like a torpedo or a warhead and Johann could only think of one type of warhead that you would keep refrigerated and under negative air pressure.  "Bio-Weapons" He muttered as if disgusted by their existence.

Roquette went tense from the top of her head to the tips of her toes at the lieutenant's words.  In another heart beat she willed herself to relax.  She scanned the room again and taking the weight of the rifle into one hand; she reached into her pocket and pulled out a couple of thick face masks.  She held the surgical type masks out toward him in question.

"They'll be about as useful as a burst condom...no friggin use whatsoever.  Modern day BioChem-Weapons can be absorbed through the skin and I'll bet you these'll be some nasty buggers.  I s'pose that it's probably a good thing we found these things here in the Alliance.  Don't think the Federations had one of these dropped on 'em since before World War Three when the Ruskies launched Sarin into Chechnya." Johann said not taking his eyes from the warhead.

She swallowed hard but nodded as she thrust the masks back in a pocket and scanned the room again.  Feeling something just out of visual range to her right, Roquette moved that direction and peered into the shadows at the edge of the cavernous room.

Johann moved to support giving hand signals to coordinate their movements to surround the target.  They moved fluidly towards the target, the rubber soled boots making little noise on the metal grid floor of the freighter.  They edged to the end of a large cargo container and Johann signalled a halt and then began a countdown.  Upon zero they simultaneusly moved and brought their machine phasers to bear upon the source of the target noise.  Johann snapped on the torch on his rifle illuminating a sight which filled him with horror.  A young human girl probably no more than six years old stood unsteadily leaning against a cargo container taking short, shallow breaths.  Her skin was flushed an aggravated red and black lines swept like veins beneath her skin.   She panted a single word in a voice usually reserved for those in the advanced stages of lung cancer "Help".

Johann pressed his hand to his comm badge "Fosters to Chimera.  We got a problem..."

[USS Chimera] SD: 240906.06 Joint Duty Log, 2Lt. Mnemosyne Nyx/Lt. Mumacik

=/\= Promenade =/\=

Mnemosyme managed to pull her arm down and back hard enough
to cause Mr. Mysterious to begin to double over; but he
still wasn't letting go.  She stamped her foot down on the
inside of his left foot causing him to straighten some.  She
was also able to pull free for a couple of seconds only to
be toppled to the ground in the next couple of seconds.

Before either could contemplate their next move a loud
audible gasp reached their ears.  Mr. Mysterious glanced in
that direction telling the woman standing in shock in a
hissing sound, "She's having a fit."  The woman skittered by
them and he added, "But I have it under control now."

He looked on impassively as the woman fled hurriedly before
looking at the scene she had stumbled into.  He hadn't been
looking to draw attention for the sakes of operational
security.
It was definitely the wrong floor he had chosen to get the
target at.

A Harried looking woman seemed to come rushing out of the
alcove where the lifts and hallways converged just of the
main promenade walk.  "I think he.. NO she needs help!"  The
woman shouted at the first stony faced security person she
came across and pointed to the direction where the trouble
was.

Mumacik looked at the obviously very excited woman in his
usual emotionless way and asked calmly:" I am Lieutenant
Mumacik, please madam, tell me what happened".

"There's a guy back there holding onto a woman... he said
she was having a fit.... but ohhh hurry I'm just not ..... I
don't think she was... I'm really not sure...."  The woman's
voiced fell silent as her eyes kept drifting to the
direction she had come from.  She silently will the statue
of a man in front of her to move into action; hoping that he
wouldn't be too late.

Nym's hand went to her phaser {its kind of ... public..}
Discarding her last thought, she worked harder at getting
her feet free and finally with a burst of energy she kicked
one foot free and caught the assailant in the chin.  A
grunting sound from behind her; signaled that her other foot
was free.  As she got to her feet; Mr Mysterious pull a
knife and plunged it into her upper leg as a set of nearby
left doors hissed open.

Making the last turn around a corner, arrived at the
crime scene. Once it was clear that there is really
something bad going on, he shouted in a 'bad bad marine'
way: "This is Lieutenant Mumacik, Starbase UNITY security!
Disengage the fight immediately and stand down for
investigation! Resistance is futile … erm … will result
in immediate arrest!"

"Well points for an original phrase anyway Lieutenant."
The Mysterious Man said as he suddenly moved to make
his getaway.

Mnemosyme pulled the knife from her leg hoping that he
hadn't hit an artery.  The ripping noise was a bit of a
surprise and when she looked down the slime portable padd
had been ripped from her pocket.  More precisely the pocket
of her pants came with the blade and padd, leaving a gaping
whole in her pants over the upper thigh area.  She pulled
the material and padd from the blade as someone
shouted,"STARBASE UNITY SECURITY!"

None of the party's seemed to notice the opening hiss of the
elevator at first.  Mr. Mysterious was moving to tackle his
prey when a third party came upon them.  With this new
party's shout of security, he changed his direction toward
the open lift doors.  {It'll be easier to tackle the man
coming from there and escape then to stay.}

At her mysterious attacker's move toward the lift, Nym threw
the knife not wanting him to escape.  {I'll probably spend a
week or more getting this straightened out.}  Mr. Mysterious
steps faltered as the knife embedded itself into his left
thigh, inner the upper inside area.   She immediately raised
her hand and remained motionless after looking to see only a
small wound on her thigh.  {I'll have to get that hidden...}

The first Commander Daveed saw of the confrontation was
when the lift doors opened and a bloody man limped towards
him.

Judging the situation quickly, Mumacik ran towards the
wounded man – who seemed to be the attacker. He could not
be sure, but the fact that he run away upon Security arrival
increased the probability of him being the bad guy by 34%.
The woman was clad in a teal collared uniform, what
decreased the probability of her being the bad guy by 9%.
Counting in the initial 50%/50% … the outcome was 84% /
41% … so the presumed bad guy was the man.

Daveed blocked the man from entering the lift not overly
sure
why he was doing so until a security officer moved in and
grabbed the man.

The man struggled with his knife wound long enough for
Mumacik to get to him. With little gentleness he grabbed his
right hand and pulled him over … with the abdomen on the
floor. He said: "This is your final warning, stop
resisting immediately or I have you stunned!" He did not
stop while talking and now he was holding the man's thumb
on his right arm squeezed in a very painful angle.

Daveed stood back as the security officer subdued the man
and placed restraints on him.  Perhaps now he could wait
on the contact he was supposed to meet without any further
incidents.

Mumacik looked at the other officer  and nodded: "Thank
you for the help.
Please do not let him escape". With that, he walked over
to Nyx and said: "Are you hurt Lieutenant?"

Mnemsosyme smiled brightly, "Nothing but a scratch."

Nodding, Mumacik said: "Lieutenant, please stand down and
do not try to resist. I am taking you into custody". He
tapped his comm. badge and said:

+TAPS+ Lieutenant Mumacik to operations. I request a
security transport immediately. Location Security area 2,
cell block B, four persons+

+TAPS+ Operations here, transport ready in 15 seconds+

Daveed smiled in the knowledge that justice had been done
and the perp was on his way to the cells until he did the
math.  "Wait...four?"

Without any emotions shown on his face, Mumacik turned to
Nyx and said: "I have to take both of you into custody,
until this case is cleared. After all, you could be the real
attacker and this man a poor victim. It might even prove
that you are not who you claim to be, but an alien
omnipotent entity. The probability is quite low, but I can
not count on chances. You will receive your medical
treatment in the cell"

"I understand, but I will not require any medical
treatment," she replied as she covered the small wound in her thigh.
{If it hadn't been for this padd ... I might not be walking at
the moment."  She brushed her hand over her jaw which ached
a bit and was slightly sore to the touch.

"Now look" Daveed began "I don't care who you people
are or what this incident relates to but I'm not involved!"
He said indignantly.

Mumacik started to shook his head … when all four were
enveloped in a blue haze of a transporter beam. Within a
second, they materialized in the security area at the
entrance to a large cell block. Security was already
informed by operations and four security guys already waited
for them.

… and Mumacik finished shaking his head and said: "I
apologize, sir, but it was necessary precaution. We need to
arrest both parties involved in the accident". Mumacik
looked at Daveed and said: "Thank you for your cooperation,
sir. Making a statement from your side might help in this
case. Do you want to make it right now?"

"Lift doors open.  Bloody man lurches towards me. I block
him.  You jump on him.  The End."  Daveed said unimpressed.

During the speech, Mumacik pointed at the mysterious man and
Nyx, gesturing the fellow security officers to lock them
behind bars … or a force field in this case. Another
gesture indicated that both of them are in need of medical
attention. One of the security guys nodded and motioned his
guys to get those two.

"Its Just a scratch and a bruise,"  Mnemosyme stated, "I'm
ready to give my statement when you all are ready."

Daveed made a show of looking bored by folding his arms
and stifling a yawn.  He had better things to do than act as
a witness in what was likely some domestic squabble gone
over the top.

"I had caught him," she pointed the mystery man, "Following
Starfleet personnel on several occasions and then I saw him
look at this," she held out the trim-line padd.  "Then I tried to
get away with it so I could see what information was on it
which caused the altercation and I suppose we'll never be
able to recover the information from it now.'

Daveed sighed and said "Perhaps my services may be needed
after all.  My name is Commander Ariel Daveed of Starfleet
Intelligence currently under the direct command of Joint Defense
Command.  I am the captain of the Ronin Class USS Jackal
currently parked outside.  My techs are among the best in
the business.  If anyone can recover the information on that
padd its them."

[USS Chimera] SD 240906.06 | Quorum Space | Joint Log, Cmdr Summers (Med Adv) & Maj Varis (JAG)

= Padassa Trading Station - Quorum Space (Romulan Annexed) =

Rangi  pressed flattened hands against the door and gave up,
releasing a long breath of frustration before turning away
and looking at the small cell with what could only be
described as despair.

The guards had thrown her inside and before she had time to
regain her feet, the door was locked and despite her calls
and her beating her fists against the door, there had been
no responce at all.

The room was small and quite dimly lit by an inadequate
overhead light with bare walls and floor. In opposite
corners were low seats, square and uncovered, too small to
be  beds, yet the only 'furnishing' inside.

Along the centre of the floor was a thin black line which,
Rangi saw, ran up the walls and across the ceiling.
{Force field?} she wondered and tentatively took a step
forwards, holding out her hand.

She recoiuled immediately, shocked at the sudden harshness
of the bite on her finger tips. It certainly was a
forcefield.

She sat down on the seat her thoughts full of martin and
where Harker had taken him.

For the first time since she was in the cell, the door in
the opposite section opened and a figure was shoved inside.
He stumbled against the wall and then collapsed on the floor
in a heap. From the tattered and torn Starfleet uniform he
wore it was clear he had been held captive for a long time.

Rangi had leapt to her feet and stood staring down at the
crumpled form on the floor.
"Are you alright?" she asked slowly and moved as close as
she dared to the invisible barrier. "Can you hear me?"

At first she got no response and it wasn't clear if the man
had heard her in the first place, but then there was a
slight stirring and he managed to sit up. Moving into the
light, it became clear his face was swollen and his eyes
were closed, but there was no mistaking who it was.

"Your voice... your voice sounds so familiar," he managed to
say, speaking slowly and with strain. "What did you say your
name was?"

"Major Varis" Rangi breathed his name, hardly believing who
she saw., then regaining herself she answered. " I'm Rangi
Summers....Major...what's happened to you?"

"Summers," Liev whispered the name. It didn't seem familiar
at first, but then something dawned on him. "You have a son,
Martin?"

" Yes I do." Rangi replied and he turned his head in her
direction as though to look at her but his eyes were sealed
shut by the swelling around them. " You helped us...Shane
and me...you remember Commodore Guzman?...you helped us with
the legal aspects of Martins adoption."

He coughed heavily and the sound of it was a clear
indication he had a lung infection. Taking a rasping breath,
he asked, "Is it really you, Rangi? You're not just a trick
of my mind? I've been I remember you now... it seems so long
ago that I knew you."

Rangi moved as close as she dared to the force field. "Yes
it's me." she replied, frowning now as she saw the sorry
state that he was in. " How long have you been here?" she
asked.

"I don't know how long I've been here," he said as he leaned
his head back against the wall. "I've lost track of the
days, and every time they take me to the machine things get
so much more confusing."

"What machine?" she asked already knowing she wasn't going
to like the answer.

"They put it in my head," Liev said. He moved forward a bit
and turned the back of his head into the light, and at the
base of his skull was a small circular implant that looked
like a small plug. "When I'm in it, they make me relive my
memories, and it's so real..."

His fingers, boney and shaking, pointed to the implant which
was easy to see. It was perhaps  two half an inch in
diameter,
embedded into the bone with a shaved area around it.It  had
been done with great precision.

"There are others here too, others like us," he continued.
"From the Federation, from Starfleet... even Klingons, I've
seen.

This was chilling news for it meant that Harker and whoever
he was working with, must have a wide plan but before she
could ask more about it, Liev turned his sightless eyes
towards her again.

"How is Bren?" Liev suddenly asked. "Does he miss me? I miss
him... it's been so long since I've seen him."

There was a sudden life in his voice and an eagerness and
for a second or so, Rangi didnt know how best to answer.

"He's well." she said " He's away on Chimera."
Liev waited for more news and knowing the truth had to be
told Rangi said:
" Your place was taken by an imposter. I met him..I thought
it was you..in a turbo lift but he was a Chameloid. Major,
for however long you've been here, the imposter was living
on Unity. I don't know if Bren suspected anything but I
can't think that he did. I'm sorry."

Liev nodded his slowly and remained quiet for a few moments,
frowning. "I feel very tired now, do you mind if I go to
sleep for a while? Will you still be here when I wake up?"

"Ofcourse i don't mind." she said feeling a great sense of
helplessness wash over her. " Try to rest and yes, I'll be
here when you wake up."

He turned away, took a short step then knelt down stiffly.
She stood watching him, assessing him, but she powerless to
help him at all. The forcefield barred her from physical
contact and there was nothing to make his part of the cell
anymore comfortable than her own.

He lay down on the cold floor and didn't say anything
further. The only sound he made was the sound of shallow
breathing.

After a while Rangi moved to the small platform amd sat
down. She continued to watch Liev, listening to his breaths
which were interrupted now and then by a rasping cough but
he remained curled up on the floor in a foetal position ,
his back turned to her and as the hours passed, noone came
near.

[USS Chimera] SD 240906.05 || Bridge Log || USS Chimera NCC 96899-C || Canna System ||

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

The red tracers of the Graviton torpedoes fired off toward their targets as Lieutenant Rayna Dior fired the port manevering thrusters and sent the USS Chimera into a spinning barrell roll arc surrounding the incoming troop transports. The torpedoes impacted on their targets' impulse drives sending millions of graviton particles into the surrounding space - drastically slowing their progress.

Lieutenant Commander Xindi Ra-Zerphimi, the Chimera's chief science officer studied the readouts on his console. "Attack successful. Heavy damage to their impulse drives. At their current rate of speed they'll reach planetside in 45 minutes."

"Dior, intercept the lead vessel." Captain Cropa Rojac ordered. "Tactical, dual fire quantum torpedoes. Target their singularity drive."

"Aye sir." Replied Dior and the Tactical Officer in unison.

The Chimera swooped down on the troop transport like a bird of prey and fired its deadly blue projectiles into its dorsal section. Ruptures were evident along the ships hull just before the singularity imploded on itself creating a small black hole that lasted just long enough to obliterate the ship. All hands were lost.

"Target two," Rojac began.

Commander Ohmsford glanced to the other side of the Captain's seat where Counselor Wellington said stiffly in her seat, looking somewhat pale. It didn't take an empath to know she was feeling discomfort. "Counselor... are you all right? What do you sense?" he asked.

Athena gripped the chairs arms with a white-knuckled intensity.  She stretched her senses out hoping to get a better feel as to what she was sensing.  {Its there ... something dark.}  She reached out toward the darkness trying to sense its nature.  She felt waves of anguish, disbelief, hatred and death as one of the Romulan transports was destroyed.  Emotions quickly flashed across her features as she finally replied, "Its on the surface ... its strong."  Her voice was clear and strong and her face had become devoid of any emotion.

Rojac mind traced back immediately to the reports from Antigonis, where one of his marines was badly damaged and traumatized by some telepathic being at a Breen base. It then linked to recent reports from Captain Tedros Chisuo's excursion to the Narendra system where they captured a telepathic being strong enough to kill ith a thought. The latter was being held in stasis in the bowels of Starbase UNITY. Could they be facing off against this mysterious threat once more?

Rojac turned to Bren and uttered one word, "Narendra."

Bren nodded, understanding Rojac's reference. "We need to take care of these troop transports, Captain."

While everyone was dealing with the Romulan troop transports Jade was keeping an eye on the scans that were being ran on the planet. She was trying to see if she could find out what Athena was talking about, but so far no luck. But she was interrupted by receiving damage reports it took a few seconds to look over them and send damage repair teams to areas where they were needed she then sent the report to the CO's and XO's chair.

"Dior," Rojac ordered, "attack pattern sigma-theta. Tactical full spread on the pulse phasers for the front run, arm aft launchers with quantum torpedoes."

"Aye sir." Lieutenant Dior replied. She turned the bow of the Chimera into a dive toward the next troop transporter as tactial unleashed the pulse phaser turrets on the target. As the blurringly fast Chimera streaked past, tactical gained a lock with the rear launchers and fired volley of quantum torpedoes at the transport's impulse drives.

"Impact confirmed." Zerphimi called. "Their impulse drive is out, and the distortion field in still in effect their dead in the water. Heavy damage to everal decks. I'm picking up leaking plasma."

"Three left." Rojac said. "Dior, you know the drill."

"Aye sir." The helm officer called over her shoulder.

Athena was zoned out from what was going on around her as she concentrated on the being that she was sensing.  She could practically see troops advancing as she sensed confinement, but rage was quickly on its heels.  It sent a burning sensation licking along her nerves and then slowly through her body as the words, "sensing a fight," was dragged from her lips and a bead of sweat ran down the side of her face from her temple.

"Commander." Rojac said turning toward the man in charge of the mission. "They need our help."

"The Eagle will take care of it, they're already in orbit," Bren replied. "We have to take care of these transports, they can't get away. Once we've taken care of them, we can go to their aid."

"Sir," Tactical called, "I have a lock on target two's impulse drive."

"Take your shot." Rojac said, turning once more to face the viewscreen. "Make it quick and clean." He wanted to get back to the planet, to get a taste of this mysterious new enemy and to help the suffering allies on the surface. But Bren had given the orders, and it was his duty to follow them first. "Fire."

Four torpedoes escaped from their launchers and honed in toward the plasma signatures of the third troop transport. The Chimera streaked past the detruction and opened phaser fire in a strafing run on the fourth and fifth, firing the aft launchers a she passed - causing an explosion that made the fourth transport list to port. Once tactical got a lock on the fifth, Rojac gave the order and it too one dead in space.

"Mr. Montesque, " Rojac called to the communications officer on the bridge, "hail the surviving transports, tell them we will be back to collect them shortly."

"Aye sir."

"Helm, standard orbit."

[USS Chimera] SD 240906.05 | SB Unity | Duty Log, Maj Kinn (Intel Adv)

= USS Valiant - En Route to SB Unity =

Major Giellera Kinn sat at the desk in her tiny quarters onboard the Defiant-class USS Valiant that was speeding its way at Warp 7 towards the Aeran System. The adjunct Intel Advisor was returning from SB Bragg after two weeks where she attended an untimely meeting of the SSF Intelligence Committee. Normally the Intelligence Advisor would attend the meeting while the adjunct (if there was one) oversaw things in their place. But since Giella was holding the fort alone in Intel at 1st Task Force without a replacement yet, she had no choice but to attend the meeting.

Having to leave Unity could not have come at a worse time. They had a mysterious prisoner of war in custody captured from Narendra, which the medical examiner had not yet been granted access to; there were two senior officers missing, kidnapped presumably by the Romulans; besides that there was a war raging on and the normal Intel duties to take care of.

While still at Bragg Giella had received word that a message had been received from Commander Summers and that Commander Terek was working tracing the message. In the meantime, Security teams had finecombed Commander Ohmsford and Major Varis' quarters and discovered a broken vial that once contained diophyletine; hair strands superficially resembling that of Major Varis were also analysed and found to have underlying Chameloid DNA, confirming what Commander Summers revealed in her message.

As soon as she was able she sought for leave to depart from Bragg and return to Unity to continue her work. In retrospect she was glad she attended the meeting because some very important information was revealed. It was discovered that several Federation agents placed within the Romulan Empire were compromised for months and are now MIA. While they apparently routinely reported back to their handlers, SSFI learned that these routine checks were fake and executed by the Tal'Shiar to placate SSFI and keep from suspecting their agents had been made.

Two other security breaches had been uncovered, one at Khan Station - the headquarters of the 2nd Task Force - and another within R&D. Fortunately both had been eliminated swiftly. Giella had also handed over copies of her reports about Outpost R-12's communications beacon to SSFI and they had deployed agents to infiltrate the pre-warp civilisation at Veridian IV. The archaeological teams at Sitiva had also been withdrawn and the system declared off-limits under General Order 12.

Now Giella waited in front of her computer terminal for a secure connection with Unity to speak to Commodore Guzman. As was always the case, she was patched through to Lieutenant Pakosii, the Commodore's aide.

"Lieutenant," she ambushed him as soon as his face appeared, without so much as a greeting. "I need to speak with Commodore Guzman immediately, it's urgent."

"The Commodore is not available at present, Major," Pakosii replied, his face almost asking if she ever contacted him about anything that wasn't urgent.

"I understand he's a busy man, but he would want to speak with me," Giella insisted.

"I'm sure he would but he is not here," Pakosii replied. "He's on a classified mission on the USS Qashqai, Major. I can put you through to Captain Rodgers if you like."

It didn't take a genius to figure out what mission the Commodore had gone on. If there was any hint of where to find his partner and child, he would no doubt follow up on it immediately. Captain Rodgers had obviously arrived while she was gone and was now in charge of the 1st Task Force. For a moment she almost felt sorry for the man who was definitely being thrown into the deep end. She hoped he was a good swimmer.

"Has Captain Chisulo returned from his mission to V'Tar?" Giella asked instead. She'd been notified of the success of the mission but wasn't sure if the captain was back at Unity yet.

"Yes, Major, he–"

"Good," she interrupted him. "Lieutenant, please set up a meeting with Captain Chisulo and Captain Rodgers for me in 7 hours sharp. I will be back at Unity by then. Please tell them it's–"

"Urgent, yes Major," Pakosii nodded quickly.

"Thank you. Kinn out," she said and ended the communiqué.

She sat thinking for a moment and then tapped in a request for another communiqué to Unity, this time to the Science Department, to Commander Terek.

"Science Department, Commander Terek," came the answer when the Bajoran's face appeared.

"Commander, have you been able extrapolate the location of Commander Summers' message?" she asked pointedly.

"No ma'am, I'm still running it through an analysis algorithm," he replied. "It was sent through several communications relays and its taking some time to pinpoint them all. It will take at least a few more hours."

"When you are done, do not pass this information on to Commodore Guzman," she stated firmly. "It's very important that you remember this."

"Ma'am? I don't understand..."

"If Commander Summers' captors intercept that message and find proof that we have her location, they could execute her or move her, if they haven't done so already," she explained.

"The Commodore has asked me explicitly to pass on the information to him as soon as I have it," Terek objected.

"Just hold off on it for an hour or two," Giella replied. "I'll be back on Unity in 6 hours and I have a meeting scheduled with Captains Rodgers and Chisulo. We'll make a decision, but until then please don't contact him yet."

Terek nodded reluctantly. "Yes, Major."

"Thank you, Commander. Kinn out," she said, then closed the channel.

[USS Chimera] SD 240906.04 || Duty Log || MCap Channer Davis ||

[Personnel  Shuttle USS Franklin - En Route to SB 234: UNITY]

Lieutenant Henry Boyd finished typing in the trajectory for the Franklin's transit to SB 234. He glanced over his shoulder to the back of the small craft where the Marine was busy working on an open phaser rifle. They had a day and a half left in space at this shuttle's top speed - so they might as well start up a conversation, Boyd thought.

"So where are you headed off to go?" Boyd said, turning around in his chair as the computer took over operations.

Channer looked up from his phaser to nod at the Lieutenant, noting his existence, then returned to his work.  "Scheduled to meet up with my ship at UNITY," he replied simply.  The rifle's beam nature had long since been traded for a pulse variant.  Davis absent-mindedly wondered why they were still called PHASed Energy Rectification rifles.  Some engineer somewhere probably had trouble coming up with another acronym.

"Starship duty, huh?" Boyd said. "I wish I was so lucky. Instead I get the personnel runs between UNITY and Bragg. I swear its the most boring run in the war." The marine didn't appear interested, or even the least bit sympathetic to Boyd's situation. "So what ship are you being assigned Chief of Security to?"

"The Chimera," Channer said, still distracted.

"The flagship huh?" Boyd said. "Now that's an honor there. You must have some good experience under your belt to get that spot."

This caught Davis' attention, and raised his eyebrows.  "It's the flagship?  I guess I am way behind.  As for experience, the Dominion War screwed alot of boys up, turned us into your average angry marine.  Got booted out for being 'too aggressive.'  I guess that's gone from a record blemish to a position qualification."

"Yeah," Boyd said before turning back to he controls or a second to check on the latest intrasystem telemetry, "War tends to do that." He swiveled back around, "Well, sir, we have thirty-six hours until we arrive. There's a replicator and a bunk in the back - next to the lavatory." He lat part he added a gesture toward an nondescript door toward the rear of the fore compartment. "Make yourself at home."

"Thank you, L.T." he said, cracking a smile for the first time.  He gestured toward his dismantled rifle.  "Going to finish up getting this new issue modded to Recon specs, then I'm down for a hot meal and a hand of poker, if you'll join me.  Computer cheats like a bitch."

[USS Chimera] || SB 234: UNITY || SD 240906.03, Duty Log, Commo. Shane Guzman

"shane.guzman@mojwap.sk" <shane.guzman@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

====== Bridge, USS Qashqai ======

Sitting in the CO's chair, Shane watched the stars passing
by on the main screen. It was already 26 hours since they
left UNITY and they were slowly approaching their
destination. Trouble was … that they had only a very vague
idea of the destination. All they knew was the name of an
area – Quorum space. It was a wide area … impossible to
search in all length. Shane could only hope that Commander
Terek back on UNITY will provide him with more detailed data
soon.

For the moment, the lack of exact destination was not
critical … since they set the course for the middle of the
Quorum space. Until they arrive there, there was time.
Wouldn't it be for such a dangerous and personal mission,
Shane would really enjoy to be in the CO's seat of a star
ship again. He almost forgot how it felt like sitting in the
high seat, with all the bridge stations manned all around
him. Here was no time for long time strategic decisions and
tons of paperwork … cause his attention was required by
other, day-to-day operations issues.

Speaking about paperwork, Shane remembered the last minutes
before departure …

====== TF CO's office, Fleet area, SB 234:
UNITY, one day earlier =====

The Qashqai was scheduled to leave in 20 minutes. Using the
remaining time, Shane was fastly reading his mailbox,
filtrating to-do-things. Not long ago, a wise old man
introduced him the concept of a 'rotting heap'. Those
skilled in beaurocracy know this very well … as well as
most of the desk chained high brass in Starfleet … but
Shane was fresh to this idea and unspoilt by the effects.

The idea is straight and simple. Put ALL mails, requests,
memos, orders, suggestions & other stuff arriving @ your
desk on a single heap and forget about them. When folks
start inquiring about this or other … do what burns but
nothing else. Repeat this with every new stuff arriving on
your desk … and concern yourself only with things that
you're inquired about … forgetting all the rest. This
way you'll soon have a growing heap … that's slowly
rotting. Since the 'smell' becomes too strong soon …
dispose of that heap every three months … and begin with a
clear table. Be assured that stuff that is none inquiring
about was by FAR not important for your time to be wasted.
Experience teaches us that at least 60% of all stuff coming
your way is 'rotting heap'.

Shane's busy work was interrupted by LT. Pakosii's
voice:

+TAPS+ Lieutenant Pakosii to Commodore Guzman +

Shane wiped the sweat of his face and replied:

+TAPS+ Go ahead +

+TAPS+ Consul Guzman is asking for a short meeting +

Shane looked at the chrono and replied: +TAPS+ Send him in,
Lieutenant +

Within a little while, the door leading to the reception
area hissed open and Shane's brother, Martin Guzman,
wearing a civilian diplomat uniform ranking him as consul,
entered the room.

"I am sorry to disturb you, Shane, but I have a pressing
problem" he said.

"No problem, Martin" Shane replied, "but you have to
be fast, cause I am leaving the base in 15 minutes"

"You're going away from UNITY?" Martin asked.

Shane nodded and replied: "Yes, on board the Qashqai"

"Hmm … that's quite fitting" Martin replied, "can
you not take me with you?"

Rather surprised by the question, Shane said: "What's
the matter Martin. Why do you want to go on a mission you
don't know anything about it? And well … aren't you a
member of Chimera's crew?"

Martin nodded and shrugged: "Well, yes, I am … but you
know, Chimera is away and I can hardly expect any shuttle
going their way any soon. Until they return, I am stuck
here".

Shane laughed: "I still don't see a problem. When your
ship is away, enjoy your free time. Book a holodeck, get a
gf … whatever. Don't tell me you're bored".

"I an not indeed, but the trouble is … our father."
Martin said in a sore tone, "once again he's hunting me
down about returning to Earth".

"Hmmm" Shane went on, "I thought that's settled. I
told him quite directly that I will not let go. And as far I
know, Captain Rojac does not favor you leaving his crew as
well".

"That's both true" was the reply, "but I am not on
the Chimera and you are now leaving. How long will our
father need to figure that out you think? In a day or two he
will request my transfer and there will be none to stop him
…"

Nodding, Shane replied: "Quite right, that sounds just
like dad. All right then, you come with me, but you have 10
minutes to pack whatever you need. I will not wait for you
if you're late".

"I wooont" sounded from the reception area as Martin run
out Shane's office in a hurry.

- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (chimera-command@ucip.org
) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (chimera-command@ucip.org
).

-------------------------
Any officer who is Absent Without Leave (0) for two or more consecutive
weeks is considered "On Report." Crewmen on report should email the command staff immediately to explain their absence (too much to do in RL is a fine excuse) and say when they anticipate being able to log again in the future.
The following crewmen are on report:

none.

The following crew have either resigned or have been dropped due to lack of activity. If they would like a position on the USS Chimera, they will need to reapply.
