======== Transporter room 24, civilian area,
SB 234: UNITY =======
Tailed by his four body guarding marines, Shane arrived in
the transporter room with light speed. For once a while,
security seemed to be working well … the area was already
sealed. A perimeter of security guards hold the public away
to both keep the crime scene clear and protect the civilians
in case of a second accident.
Shane looked around the room in a fools hope to notice
anything explaining the fate of his son and girlfriend.
Suddenly, a bulky looking Lieutenant wearing yellow collar,
stepped in front of him: "What the hell you think you do
here?" he asked.
"What?" Shane replied in surprise. It was very long ago
since he had to explain his intentions to anyone … it did
not happen since he took command over the task force more
then a year ago.
"What kind of a fool let you in here! Don't ya see, that
public access is restricted?" cried the Lieutenant.
Only then Shane realized that he was still wearing civilian
clothes. Unity was a big station and Shane met hardly a
tenth of the personnel serving here in person and there were
sure guys that saw him never before … like the security
Lieutenant.
"Lieutenant" Shane started calmly: "I am Commodore
Guzman and I am here to inspect this case personally"
hoping this would clear the case with the Lieutenant.
Unexpected … the Lieutenant laughed. "Yeah, sure gal,
you're Guzman and I am the Queen of the Summer Love
Parade" he replied.
Shane grinned slightly, but there was no positive mood shown
in his face: "Then, my dear Queen, step aside or I have
you removed!" he said with a raised voice. When the
Lieutenant did not seem to make way, Shane called: "Remove
this guy from here!". Two of his body guard immediately
approached the Lieutenant and grabbed him by his shoulders
with one saying quietly: "I'd stay quiet and make way if
I were you, boy".
No longer minding the Lieutenant, Shane kneeled near the
shot transporter chief. There was a doctor scanning the body
and Shane asked: "What happed to him?". The Doctor
turned to Shane and replied, not commenting a civilian
asking him: "He's been shot from close proximity by a
type II phaser no more then 15 minutes ago." Shane nodded
and walked over to the transporter console. The power on
this deck was already fully restored and a technician was
already tapping the console. "Who was the last one to
access the console?" Shane asked. The technician tapped a
few more buttons and replied: "Chief Dailos" he replied.
He pointed towards the dead body and Shane nodded. He hoped
that the last one who activated the console could be someone
else then the transporter chief … maybe someone who had
something common with this case. But it were the Chiefs
codes that were used to access the console and who
physically entered the commands … could not be found out.
"What are the last coordinates of transport?" Shane
asked. The technician shrugged: „I don't know, sir,
there were wiped from the memory". "Damn" Shane said
and tapped his badge:
+TAPS+ Guzman to Commander Terek +
+TAPS+ Terek here, Commodore +
+TAPS+ Werannis, please come immediately to Transporter room
24 in the civilian area. I have urgent work for you. I need
to know the last coordinates of a transport, but they seemed
to be wiped from the memory. Can you handle that? +
+TAPS+ I do my best, unless the one wiping them was an
expert, there should still be retrievable +
Shane tapped his badge again:
+TAPS+ Guzman to Operations +
+TAPS+ Operations here, sir +
+TAPS+ Do you have sensor logs reading the position of
Commander Summers for lets say … last 15 minutes? +
+TAPS+ Yes, sir + came the reply, + I have all her movement
from the moment she left the quarters +
+TAPS+ Very well. Now compare that log with logs of all
other station's personnel. Did she meet anyone on her way
from our quarters to transporter room 24? +
+TAPS+ A moment, sir … yes, she encountered with 14
distinct personnel +
+TAPS+ Gather all that personnel and have security question
them. I want to know if there was someone along with the
Commander and if they have seen anything suspicious +
+TAPS+ Understood, sir +
Shane was for once glad about the strict SSF procedures. All
badges were on SSF stations were constantly watched and
their position logged in time. One could trace every single
member of SB 234 (or the badge, to be precise) for a period
of six months back.
======= some later =======
Shane was holding a little bucket in his hand and was deep
in thought. He found the bucket along with a net on the
ground. He knew the bucket and it was Martin's and it was
supposed to go with them down on Aeran. Shane knew that his
son was VERY fond of the little holiday and both artifacts
– bucket and net were 'absolutely necessary' to be
taken with. Little Martin would not forget them … even
less just throw them away. Unless … something bad
happened.
"Shane" someone said quietly behind him. Turning around,
Shane saw Terek Werannis looking at him, wearing a small
smile: "Good news at last. Whoever it was to wipe the
transporter coordinates, he was good, but not good enough.
He configured the transporter to randomize the last
coordinates and wiped the transporter buffers completely.
But being not smart … or experienced enough, he did not
wiped the transporter activity log. Well … it's not even
possible, since there are only two persons on the whole
station with a clearance high enough to do that … the CO
and XO. Everyone else has read only access … if even that.
Making the story short, I isolated the coordinates … they
mark empty space almost at the edge of transporter range, I
scanned the spot two times and there is nothing. But I
located Rangi's badge down on Aeran …"
Shane nodded and tapped his badge again:
+TAPS+ Guzman to flight control. I want a fighter wing to
survey a certain area. Coordinated will be transmitted by
Commander Terek. I want a detailed scan of that area ASAP +
+TAPS+ Flight control here, Sir. Understood +
Breaking the line, Shane contacted security:
+TAPS+ Guzman to security, I want two full ODA teams at my
location within 5 minutes +
This time it was Shane who was addressed:
+TAPS+ Operations to Commodore Guzman +
+TAPS+ Guzman here, what do you have for me? +
+TAPS+ Six crew remembered to see Commander Summers with
Martin Guzman and Major Live chatting in the turbo lift and
two more confirm that the major entered the transporter room
with them. +
Shane thought: {Liev? Is he a victim as well? … or
something else?}
+TAPS+ I declare Commander Summers and Major Liev MIA. Have
all their access codes locked down immediately + It was a
standard procedure when Starfleet officers were kidnapped or
suspected to be captured. It was a way how to prevent
misusage of their access codes, acquired by threads or
force. It was the same for SSF and even more … any usage
of those codes within Federation would be immediately logged
and 1st TF Command would be informed.
+TAPS+ Understood, sir +
On the sound of many feets, Shane turned and saw twelve
heavy armed ODA members entering the room. The majority were
man, but three woman were present as well. It was long past
when woman could not become members of elite units and
now-a-days were some of the women among the best in all
ODAs. The group was led by a 1LT and Shane turned to him:
"Lieutenant, we head down to Aeran. I suspect Commander
Summers, Major Liev and a civilian child to be in a possible
dangerous situation. We have to proceed with caution but
quick none-the-less.
The ODA leader seemed not to be surprised about a civilian
to command him … he was most probably already told about
whom to expect. He nodded but added: "May I suggest you
stay on board the station, sir? In a possible hostile
situation you could get hurt or worse"
Shane shrugged and replied: "Well, that's always the
risk. I'll come along none-the-less"
The 1LT insisted: "Sir, I strongly recommend you staying
on board. If I may be so bold to say so, you could endanger
this mission. My man are trained for ground combat
operations, you're not, with all respect, sir".
Shane shook his head: "Nonsense, Lieutenant. I served as
XO under General Bretam long enough to learn how things go
and led ODA teams in missions when you were still in a boot
camp. My orders are clear, proceed Lieutenant!"
The 1LT only shrugged and called: "Team, prepare for
action. All hands to the transporter pads!"
