Shane leaned a bit forward and looked in his brother's
eyes. "Do you understand what am I asking from you?" he
inquired.

Martin Guzman (older), ranking consul in Federation
diplomatic corps, currently assigned as Diplomatic advisor
on the USS Chimera – C, nodded: "Of course am I,
Shane". Martin returned from his Honohran mission
(escorting a huge Honohran colony ship on their way through
federation space) several hours ago and was immediately
intercepted by his brother's aide – Lieutenant Pakosii.
The good Lieutenant did not listen to any pleads and
virtually dragged him to Shane's office.

"It's not an order Martin, it's a plea … you don't
have to do that if you don't wish to …" Shane said.

Martin shook his head: "Shane, you aided me several times
when our father wanted me back on Earth and now it's time
to pay some of my dues back. If you handle all the
formalities, I take care of your son and all other stuff".

Shane nodded: "Formalities are no problem. I just inform
Captain Rojac that you were temporary assigned elsewhere and
will return to the Chimera once your assignment is over. But
I'd like to stress again the level of danger you are
heading into. It's Tal'shiar we are talking about and
they are the dammed best Intel in this quadrant … even if
Commander Lernen might think different here. Their arms are
long and they do not hesitate to dirty their hands. I must
say that your very life is in danger …"

Martin grinned: "Now tell me what's the difference
comparing to a life on the Chimera under your command …
"

Shane laughed shortly: "Good point … but seriously, its
not a game. I've send Rangi to the Chimera and once you
and little Martin are away, it's me who is the prime
target for the Tal'shiar. But still … its DANGEROUS!"

Martin nodded: "I understand, Shane. Let's not talk
about it any more. When shall we depart?"

Sighing, Shane replied: "A Vulcan transport ship leaves
the stations in 12 hours. Book two tickets there. Expenses
are no problem, I'll give you access to my account. During
all the years in Starfleet I did not spend a lot of credits,
so there should be enough of them to pay for 100
transports."

Nodding, Martin said: "Well, I've never been to Risa and
I am sure little Martin will like it there as well."

Shane nodded: "True. I can imagine a lot of more worse
places for an assignment. Please don't forget that
officially … you are on R&R. If you notice any sign of
troubles, contact me immediately!"

Walking off the stage after Captain Rojca was done introducing the
senior staff when Jade started to hear something strange at first she
just thought that she just had something in her ear after rubbing her
ear the sound was still there, but getting louder by the minuet. Soon
she was able to make out some words, but he thing was she was able to
tell that they weren't coming from the same person and none of the
words she heard made any sense they were all jumbled together.

{{the.... back.... should we?.....}} These were some of the things
Jade was hearing, but she couldn't tell where they were coming from,
so she started to make her way to the doors to head to her temporary
quarters and wait until this sensation subsided.

Athena felt the small ache she always got when telepathy was being
used around her and it wasn't focused. She looked around until she
looked around as she began to make her way off the stage and finally
let her gaze land on Jade Reese. Making a snap judgement Athena
decided to try something. {{On the ship... we should meet.}}

Jade stopped a few from the door the sounds and voices started to get
quieter until one voice came through clear as day it sounded like a
female voice. Jade didn't really know how to answer this voice she has
heard of the ability to speak to someone without actually speaking or
being face to face the thing Jade could think of is to concentrate on
saying yes and hoped whoever is trying to talk to her would receive
the message, {{Yes, where?}} Was all Jade thought about hoping that it
would reach the person.

Athena had managed to drink a glass of champagne and made it part way
through the crowd before her answer came. She turned to the woman
whom she felt sure was sending the message and answered, {{Chief
counselor's office sometime after the Chimera is on its way.}} She
smiled at the look on the other woman's face that she brief caught
before a waiter walked in front of her, Athena grabbed another glass
and continued to make her way through the crowd.

Jade decided to call it night the whole voices in her head through
everything off hopefully this women will be able to help her
understand what is going on and also how to control it.

[USS Chimera] SD 240812.12 || Senior Staff Meeting || USS Chimera-C ||

"James Croft" <crizoft@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

[Conference Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]

It had been one hour since Rojac had ordered the Chimera to depart SB
234, and to set course for the testing grounds in the Calder system,
past Calder IV. The stars streaked by the aft view of the ship from
the conference room window. The senior staff had gathered, as per
Rojac's orders, to discuss departmental priorities and the tests to be
performed during the shake-down cruise.

Rojac cleared his throat and stood from his chair at the head of the
table to gather every one's attention. "Now that we're all
here, let's get down to business. We'll go around the table. Tell me
what your department has done so far, what it still needs to do, and
when it will get done." He took his seat again and looked over to his
left where MCap Anya Xerxes sat. "You first, Captain."

"All fighters are aboard and are ready to commence operations. The
pilots of the Z-105 Shadow's and the I-210 Amaterasu are checked out
on their respective craft. The problem arises with my AX-02 Lancer
pilots, so far they are only checked out on the simulator package and
haven't had any chance to fly with each other yet. So we need about a
week to get up to speed because as we all know simulating just doesn't
compare to the real thing." The last bit was said in conjunction with
an obscene hand gesture.

"I'm also looking into getting some support systems installed in the
Flight Decks and also looking to get some soundproofing put in as
well…the new coil engines in the lancers are noisier than hell and I
doubt the neighbours would appreciate my fine taste in music. Time
scales on that I'll leave open ended as I'm not sure if we'll have the
time to get that done." Anya looked around to see if anyone had any
comments or questions but no one did.

Scardona cleared his throat when he realised that it was now his turn.
Truthfully, he didn't even know where to begin. So much to do, so
little time. He shrugged before beginning his report.

"Well, we're pretty much all set with the warp drive. We've raised
efficiency by 33%, which is more then up to snuff. I would caution
against using the transporters for the time being though. New
transporter systems are notoriously buggy, so I'd like to run a full,
level three diagnostic before we start sending people through, as a
precaution. Should take a couple of days. Other then that, just expect
the standard bugs that come with a new ship."

Rangi got to her feet. " I'm sorry Captain but may I request that I
defer my report until I've had time to examine my department fully?"
She looked at Rojac meaningfully, silently referring to her hurried
last minute arrival.

Rojac nodded. "Of course, Commander Summers. But please get a report
to me as soon as possible." He gestured toward the Counsellor.
"Commander Wellington..."

"We've managed to track down the couple of existing staff that still
needed evaluations and now only have a few straggling new Transfers to
complete. So far there seem to be no problems," Athena stated simply.
As her eyes fell to the one person in the room who had yet to give her
time to do an evaluation. {You and I will talk Anya.}

The new science officer, Lt Xindi Ra-Zerphimi, stood with a broad
smile across his face as Athena took her seat. "Greetings all. It's a
pleasure to finally meet you all." He took a rather illustrious bow,
which caused Rojac to snicker slightly under his breath. The science
officer stood erect once more to give his report. "The science
department's priorities at the moment would be in the sensor pallets
and the stellar cartography systems. the sensors are operational
enough, however I see room for improvement in the resolution quality.
With a more efficient power distribution matrix, I believe that we
could boost our scan quality by 13%. I can transfer these
modifications to the Engineering department at the top of the hour."
He made a show of clearing his throat, and brushing his long white
mustache aside before continuing. "The stellar cartography systems
would benefit greatly from the sensor calibrations as well, however my
priorities there focus more upon research proposals. Those can wait
until after the shakedown cruise, however." He paused and looked
around the table, holding up his empty palms. "I believe that's all I
have for today, comrades." He turned to his left toward Lieutenant
Jardan, "You're next, Lieutenant."

Tommy looked rather taken aback from the odd characteristics of the
efrosian science officer, he was (to say the least) a very eccentric
character with odd mannerisms. The most surprising story was that
Ra-Zerphimi had quite a reputation of being a ladies man, not
surprising for a race that was well-known for its liberal sexual
practices.

Never-the-less, Jardan gave his report, detailing the files of the
four crew currently held in the brig and other findings from his
detailed background checks on the Chimera-C's crew. He also informed
the Senior Staff of the upcoming situational drills that were
scheduled, and the different departmental plans for emergency
situations. At the conclusion of his report, he turned the floor over
to 1Lt Jade Reese, Chief Operations Officer.

"We're still running generic diagnostics trying to find any bugs we
can fix before they pop up." Jade said looking around the table, "I
can spare some personnel to help any departments that needed." Jade
also added.

"That may be necessary, Lieutenant Reese." Rojac said from a reclined
position in his chair. "See if you can spare a few system operators to
help in Commander Scardona's level three diagnostic of the transporter
system. That is to vital a system to not have fully operational;
preferably before we test it during the shakedown cruise. I want at
least one transporter room ready for human transport by this time
tomorrow. Commander Summers, I want you to test the system when it is
ready, to make sure subject molecular integrity will remain intact."

"I'll see to that Sir." Rangi replied, knowing that as soon as the
meeting came to an end, she must begin her work in sickbay and compile
the detailed report Rojac requested. Although Scott would have made a
start, she would inspect everything herself, including the transporter
system. Her father had died during a transport or, more correctly, in
the seconds before and after. A thorough investigation had been
conducted which showed no malfunction with the system but Rangi would
oversee this herself.

"Commander Wellington, your priority is to finish those evaluations.
As we're at war, I need everyone aboard at their peak level of
efficiency. Notify the security department and myself immediately of
any problems. As for you, Lieutenant Jardan, keep your men at the
ready. At all times I want at least one team on scramble notice so
that we're always in a state of readiness. This should follow for all
departments, but especially yours. I trust you will set a shining
example."

Athena nodded at the captains orders feeling sure that all the
evaluations would be completed either by the end of this day or the
next.

Rojac crossed his arms and stood. "Commander Trzetrzelewska here will
be running the tests from the bridge when we arrive at 1150 tomorrow
morning. She's in charge of the schedule of events. I will be making
rounds for a personal inspection. Put your people on notice: if I see
something I don't like, it will be dealt with. Are there any
questions?" he looked around at the blank faces for a moment. "Good.
I'm tired of talking. Natalia, you have the floor. Please share with
us the plan for the shakedown tests." Rojac retook his seat, waving a
hand in his executive's direction.

Natalia took over without hesitation, quickly hopping to her feet with
a handful of padds the she handed out to every officer seated around
the table. "We start at 0700 tomorrow moving with starship
maneuverability procedures, the defensive systems, transporters,
tractors, sensor sweeps, cloaking and live weapons testing." The
half-halanan Executive officer said as she rounded the table. "The
padds contained the detailed schedule of events. Captain Xerxes, you
are cleared for test flights all day tomorrow out of hangar bays one
and two. Lieutenant Kroitzer's latest memo says that your launchers
should be completed by 1030 tonight; though you may want to test them
before operations."

Rojac looked up as Natalia resumed her seat once more. "Well, my
friends, that concludes tonight's meeting. We have a lot of work to
do. Let's get it done. You know where to find us if you need us.
Dismissed."

=/\= Corridors and a Lift =/\=
Athena had kept up with Anya as the senior staff made their way to various points of the ship to complete their tasks.  When fianlly it was just the two of them in the corridor, Athena reached out touching Anya's arm, "Anya... I really so need to do another evaluation."   Athena's look was apologetic since she knew it wasn't anyone's favorite thing to do.

Anya shrugged "Hardly your fault...besides you already know I'm nuts.  But do me one favour and can we skip the blob shape test.  Somehow nobody ever seems to like my answers for those...it did look like last Friday nights kebab revisited the next morning."
Athena smiled and stifled a laugh, "Deal.  How about you tell me what my new office looks like instead?"
"Sounds like a challenge...I'll try and be nice too.  So are we just going through the standard twenty questions or is it the more obscure things like word relation etcetera?" she glanced towards Athena awaiting a response.
"Well, I would use our shopping trip to do the eval from but for some reason I think the brass task masters would think it unprofessional, but I'll try not to be boring."  A short ride on the lift and a turn of the corner or two and then they were at Athena's office.  "Don't expect much," Athena said as she punch in the code to open the door.
=/\= Chief Counselor's office =/\=
"I wouldn't worry to much. I already got a health and safety lecture today for saying to my Pilots that if they did badly I would start issuing the drones with live ammunition for motivational purposes...apparently some people don't understand humour."  Anya entered the office. "Quite a bit smaller than the last one but that's understandable."
"Yes," Athena mused liking how the throw on the chair at least made the room feel welcoming.  She motioned to the chair and asked, "Would you like something to drink?"

"I'll let you pick... tell me about the new fighters .... the new flyers .... or if being a Marine Captain come with too much bull  or all three."  Athena moved to the small replicator and got herself a glass of water.
"All three then.  The new fighters are top notch but we haven't combat tested them yet and we don't know which parts wear out fastest.  The new pilots are all fairly experienced elite pilots although I don't know how they will interact yet...I may call on your experience for that one.  As for being a Captain it feels a bit odd to be back where I started..."   At the confused look she got Anya explained. "Captain was the last rank I held with the Alliance before coming here."
Athena took a sip of her water as she listened to Anya, raising an eyebrow at one of the comments as she sat down.  She nodded at the other woman's further explanation.  "I've done a couple of the evaluations on your pilots and there are a couple that will probably have to decide who's going to be the alpha male if you know what I mean."

"I know all too well. Chief pain in the arse is none other than my Squadron XO First Lieutenant David Lanner.  Problem is we have a bit of 'history', he's an excellent pilot but an arrogant bastard to boot...typical pilot attitude to be fair.  I walked in on him earlier telling the others that it should be 'Lanner's Lancers'.  Naturally I did point out my superior rank, experience and the fact I've beaten him in 5 out of 5 practice dogfights...he didn't seem to like that too much." Anya shook her head. "Good shag though."
"You might want to keep as much distance between him and  First Lieutenant Althea Navere.  Nice gal... seems to know her job but seems to have an eye for the men... but I don't think she'd hesitate to put one in his place or pit them against each other if it benefited her.  Mind you that's just a quick first impression of the word association I did make her do."  Athena smiled as she remembered the odd looks the lieutenant gave her when she gave her the word 'Cock'.  {I even had to add 'as in rooster' before she answered.}

"Well you Betazeds are all fire and spirit but so long as those two are fighting between each other they aren't aiming for my job.  By the way, did you know that we run the two smallest departments on the ship?"  Anya said incredulously.
"I don't mind," Athena started, "it keeps me out of trouble."  She paused for awhile; while Anya gave her a pointed stare.  "Well.... rather it should," Athena finished with a sigh.
Well I wouldn't mind for my own department if it covered all the bases but instead we have personnel from all over the place.  My deck crew are from engineering, my armorers and ATC's are from tactical and my comms officers are from command.  They still obey my orders but what a pain in the butt if one of the other department heads has different ideas."  Anya scowled.
"You're smart... I'm sure you made provisions for that scenario," Athena stated.  Athena sighed and decided to bite the bullet, "And how have you been since meeting your grandmother?"  {The devil only know how much it comes to my mind.}

"Well I did do some checking. I ran a DNA check on her and it turned out she was in fact my Grandmother.  After I left she came after me and told me a few weird things about the Karaf coming back and there was one other thing that really freaked me out..."

Athena shiver involuntarily but didn't seem to notice as she asked, "And that was?"

Anya looked around nervously, got up and whispered quietly in Athena's ear "She knew about Prophet."
Athena held Anya's gaze but said nothing.  She took a drink of her water as she let her thoughts run through her head.  Finally she asked in hushed tones, "And how did both of you feel about her knowing?"  {I hope this doesn't put Anya in danger... I don't have too many friends that just get me and I'd imagine the same is true for her.}

"As I said freaked out...but from her manner of speech I think she got the information from someone else.  She wouldn't say more but said there was someone she wanted us to meet where she lives on Trill.  She wants me to go there next shore leave." Anya's scowl deepened.
Impulsively Athena responded, "Don't go alone ..... if you decide to go."

Anya responded calmly "I'll go but I will take someone else along...assuming I can pull a favour from a certain Ambassador when she returns."

Athena nodded with more than a bit of a relieved expression.  {I suppose I shouldn't be project my ill-at-ease feeling onto her.}  "I guess I should let you get back to work."

Anya sighed loudly "If you must. Though I may be needing a shedload of aspirine before the day is out...oh I do have a suggestion about your next shore leave...
"Yes...," Athena queried.

Go see the Hybrids, even if Viktor wont admit it they hold a lot of influence for him. You would do well to get on their good side."  Anya held Athena's gaze.
"I'll see what I can do," Athena said with a look that not only thanked but said a thousand other things.

"James Croft" <crizoft@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

[Bridge - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]

The Ready Room doors hissed aside revealing the duty-uniform-clad,
atheletic form of Captain Rojac. The black and red of his jumpsuit
contrasted against the sleek silver lines and blue carpetting of the
Chimera's bridge. Green lights hidden underneath the trim along the
ceiling cast a faint light, indicating the ship was in operational
mode. While cloaked it would shine blue; in a state of readiness,
yellow; and in danger, red. Rojac thanked the heavens it wasn't yet
the latter.

"Captain on deck!" Exclaimed the ensign at the security station, the
closest to the Ready Room door. Immediately the bridge crew snapped to
attention.

"At ease." Rojac said aloud, sending them abck to their duties as he
approached Commander Trzetrzelewska at the Command Chair. Wartime
dictated that regulations take a more rigid approach, so Rojac adopted
a more formal command presence and decorum for the new Chimera.
"Commander Trzetrzelewska, you stand relieved."

Natalia stood, and nodded. "Thank you, Captain."

"Please report to the boarding pylon and oversee the closure of the
boardign station." Rojac ordered.

"Aye, sir." His XO nodded, and made her way to the turbolift.

Rojac took his seat, and adjusted himself from side-to-side. The
cushions were still stiff and had yet to be worn in. "Lieutenant
Reese, are all personell aboard?"

"Aye, sir. Records indicate that all crew are present and accounted
for." The former operations officer of the Quasar reported. Rojac had
her transferred to the Chimera foloowing her stellar performance
abaord his Captain's Yacht, the Bahamut, following the evacuation
formt he Chimera-B. He was glad he did, she was an efficient
Operations contoller and one hell of an officer.

"Excellent." Rojac nodded. "Begin departure procedures. Terminate
dat-link with UNITY's mainframe, sever umbilical connections and
disengage the magnetic locks withthe docking pylons."

"Aye sir."

"Helm, engage the impulse drive and ready thrusters." Rojac ordered
from his chair. The helm officer comlied and engaged the impulse
engines, reporting them ready at 97% efficiency. Rojac smirked and
took a note to inquire Scardona about this later. "Lieutenant Dexter,"
He called over to the tactical station, where the experienced junior
officer was filling in, "contact UNITY and request clearance for
departure."

"Aye sir." He replied before puting a figner to his ear in hushed communication.

Rojac reveled in the busied murmur of his officers as the final
preparations for departure were being carried out.

"Sir," The security ensign called from his staion next to the Ready
Room and turbolift doors, "Commander Trzetrzelewska reports that all
entrance points have been sealed."

"Excellent. Tell her to hurry back, we're about to leave." Rojac smirked back.

"We have a green light, Captain." Dexter reported back from his
deliberations with UNITY's flight controller. "At your discretion,
Captain."

Rojac took a deep breath and stood up from his chair, walking three
paces to the center of the room. "Helm, bearing zero-two-five mark
zero-one-three. Build up to quarter impulse, nice and slow. Give our
spectators in the observation lounge a nice view of our profile while
your at it."

He recieved a coy smirk in reply from the young female betazoid helm
officer before she turned back to her console with a "Aye, sir. If
that's what you want, I'll give them a show."

"Thank you, Lieutenant." Rojac replied, turning his attention to the
changing view on the screen at the front of the room. It felt odd to
him, not having Pazla at the helm. He had grown accustomed to seeing
her at the controls of his ship and had learned to trust her with the
ship in her hands. Pazla's skills required her assignment elsewhere
however, she was too skilled of an officer to be kept behind the wheel
of a starship. She deserved to take a more active role in this war,
and proove herself a more capable officer. He had written a
reccomendation, at Natalia's request, for Pazla to take an Executive
Officer position aboard the USS Rapier. She would do fine there, he
told himself; he would just have to get used to seeing someone else at
the helm.

"Impulse engaged." The betazoid woman replied. "Zero-two-five mark
zero-one-three," she smiled, "with a sweeping barrel roll."

"Well done." Rojac almost whispered. "Lieutenant Ra-Zerphimi, has
stellar cartography finished with our flight plans?"

"Aye sir!" The long white-maned and moustached efrosian Science
Officer replied. His rosy-coppery skin and cheery demeanor reminded
Roajc of the fabled Santa Claus. "The course has been corrected for
gravimetric distortions and anomalies, and has passed my inspection."

"Transfer coordinates to helm." Rojac ordered. Ra-Zerphimi answered
with a jovial, "Aye, Captain!"

About that time Natalia stepped of the turbolift and assuemd her seat
to Rojac's right, as the Captain returned to his chair. "Bridge to
Engineering." Rojac called over the comm.

+Scardona here.+

"Commander," Rojac addressed his Cheif Engineer. "Stand-by to engage
warp drive."

+Aye sir.+ He replied. +She's ready when you are, sir.+

"Good to hear, Commander. Bridge out." Rojac then turned to Natalia,
"Commander..."

She smiled in response and turned to the helm station. "Helm set
course, warp factor nine."

"Course set, warp drive at the ready." The betazoid replied.

Rojac took a deep breath, taking in the pristine view of open space
once more before the Chimera-C dove into its depths. "Engage."

And with that, the points of lights erupted into blinding streaks of
soundless fury.

After the introduction, Rojac nodded to the Commodore and shook his
hand before he stepped to the podium to address the crowd. "To be
honest, I'm surprised I'm getting another ship." He said, with a smirk
beneath his beard. There was a low rumble of chuckles that
reverberated through the crowd. "But never-the-less, I'm glad command
still sees me as fit for duty." He turned and made a sweeping gesture
toward the line of dress uniformed individuals behind him. "And I will
be taking these talented, professional, loyal, and brave individuals
down with me. Allow me to make introductions..."

"Executive Officer, Commander Natalia Trzetrzelewska; Chief Operations
Officer, First Lieutenant Jade Reese; Chief of Security, Lieutenant
Junior Grade Tom Jardan; Chief Medical Officer, Commander Rangi
Summers; Chief Counselor, Commander Athena Wellington; Chief Science
Officer, Lieutenant Xindi Ra'Zerphimi; Chief Engineering Officer,
Lieutenant Commander Curtis Scardona; and Squadron Commander Marine
Captain Anya Xerxes."

"These officers have been selected to serve as leaders of their
departments on the flagship of Starfleet Special Forces. They embody
professionalism, skill, and devotion. As members of the Chimera, they
have quite a reputation to uphold, and I will hold them to it."

"Though three ships bearing the name Chimera have fallen before; like
a phoenix, the Chimera always rises again. The Chimera symbolizes
indomitable spirit, integrity and perseverance; we never give up the
fight for our Federation, her allies or ideals."

"Today, we are gathered to bear witness to the fourth USS Chimera as
she sets of to defend the Federation from one of her oldest foes. May
the Chimera fight and defend valiantly until the day she is no longer
needed." And the Captain added comically, "And this time, let it be a
decommission and not a destruction."

"Now without further adieu, Martin Guzman will do the honors of
piloting the remote control work bee for the ceremonial champagne
breaking. Mr. Guzman, please step forward!" Rojac grinned, and looked
over toward Rangi and the Commodore, who were to aide young Martin in
his endeavor.

Martin looked at his parents, unable to hide his pride and stepped
forward smartly, eager to take the controls. Rangi, aware of the
responsibility stood with bated breath but Martin had confidence and
pushed away Shane's guiding hand.

Shane smiled at his son who was now the center of everyone's
attention. The little boy was hardly a bit
nervous as the work bee was maneuvering directly at the shiny new
ship. Countless hours spend with playing action and strategic games
were now paying off as the little boy pushed the "release" button at
the right moment and the champagne flask hit Chimera's hull and
shattered in pieces. A loud cheer sounded through the whole deck.

Anya watched impassively from her position at the launch ceremony.
Despite having lived with humans all her life she never really got the
symbolism behind a lot of their ceremonies. What possible use could
breaking a bottle of fizzy wine over the hull possibly do? Probably
the closest thing in Trill culture was the ancient tradition of
'blooding' a ship. Back in those days seaborne ships of war had some
of the enemies blood poured on the hull in order for the ship's
spirits to gain a taste for it...if this was similar then the
Chimera's sp irits would turn into alcoholics. Perhaps so as not to
prey on the crew? Even so she doubted it would be too long before
Chimera-C spilt some Romulan blood thereby 'blooding' herself the same
went for
her own AX-02 Lancers.

"Crew!" Rojac stepped forward to the podium once more. "You have one
hour of revelry to enjoy. We depart at 1330."

The celebrations began and Rangi bent down to kiss her son. "It was
good wasn't it?" he asked, beaming with delight and Rangi agreed but
looked at Shane as she stood up. "Can we talk?" she asked quietly.

Shane shook his head: "I am sorry Rangi, Admiral Janeway called a
meeting in 15 minutes, so I need to go now".

"Already?" she asked, unable to hide the dismay in her tone or
expression. She had hoped for time with both of them..much more time
than this.

"I am sorry Rangi" Shane replied, following his decision not to share
his tears and fears with his beloved. "My job is mainly occupying the
desk and that's what I have to do now. I cant let the Admiral wait"

"Of course. " Rangi replied and careful not to upset Martin, knelt
down and said, "Do as Daddy says then..have a good time..and I'll talk
to you later ok?"

The little boy looked crestfallen at the thought of saying goodbye
again but brightened when Rangi touched his cheek. "I'm so proud of
you." she said and tears filled her eyes when they hugged each other a
moment later.

She forced herself to smile at him once the hug ended and looked at
Shane when she stood up. "Take care of him." she said softly, so
softly that he might not have heard. "Call me soon?" she added.

Nodding, Shane said: "Of course I will, please don't worry". He
kissed Rangi on her cheek and turning around to leave the room. His
heart was torn and his soul was crying, but having the dangers of
Tal'shiar in mind, he said nothing more and left.

Anya wasn't particularly interested in the immediate prospect of
socializing with the other crew members and so she walked over to
where her pilots had congregated in a cluster and motioned to them.
"Okay guys you've been introduced visually to the Captain and the new
ship. I think perhaps it's time to introduce you to your new craft,
follow me and I'll introduce you to the newest love in your lives."
With that Anya led them out of the Observation Lounge.

Rangi watched Shane and Martin weave their way through the crowd,
moving so that she could keep track of them. At the door, Martin,
still holding Shane's hand, turned back to look in her direction but
though she raised her hand and waved to him, she knew he hadn't seen
her. Shane said something to him and next moment had picked the child
up in his arms and Martin laughed. Shane grinned back and as he walked
away, she saw him kiss the top of his sons head. Her hand fell to her
lie against her throat and she stood
gazing at the doorway for some time.

Athena kept snatching champagne flutes off the waiter's treys as she
made her way through the crowd. Grabbing a bottle from the ones that
had been reserved for the launching, she left thinking {I wonder where
Vik is...}

Vlimar came in a little later than the rest of the crew. For the last
hour or so, he was receiving reports from different departments,
relating to his Engineering duties. For him, it was all jibberish.
There was no way that Vlimar was efficient in this duty, thinking it
would be better to get some Ensign to fill in the role. Vlimar was
reviewing the data, referring to some LtJg who was the highest in the
ranks after him. There was also a lot of annual crew review to do,
but, it could wait.

Vlimar walked in and headed at the back of everyone else, trying not
to create a stir. He was wearing his full white SSS uniform, which
looks alike the standard SSF dress uniform, with a hint of intrigue...
{SSS once, always SSS}, he thought.

Cropa stood next to the ice sculptor of his vessel, and admired the
pretigious view of his new vessel from the viewport. She was sleek,
athletic, and deadly. It made his heart swell with pride. This new
Chimera was no where near as large as her predecessor, but her
firepower more than made up for it. But that wasn't her strongest
attribute, the crew that waould serve aboard her would be her true
strength.

Rojac stole a quick glance at his chronometer. The would be deaprting
soon enough. The ceremony was over, and he had work to do. He quietly
made his way out of the observation lounge to begin preparations for
departure.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.10 Joint Log General Ivanov & Cmdr. Wellignton

=/\= SB 234 - Unity =/\=
Athena was running out of places to look for Viktor and short of practically paging him; she felt as if she was running out of options.  She walked into the arboretum on a heavy sigh.  She followed the winding path and finally decided to sit under a weeping willow and have a glass of bubbly.

Viktor saw her sit down and pop the cork off the bottle "I hope you're not planning to enjoy that alone."  Viktor approached from a dense area of foliage his current rank not dulling his wits as to where to disguise ones position.
"Well, I was planning to share with this incredibly cute General, but I couldn't find him," she started.  She poured some of the pale colored liquid into a flute  and took sip.  She another flute laid on the ground beside her, "But would you like some?"

"Well I suppose it's a good thing for me General Bordon is a sector away. Honestly first he takes half of my best officers and gives them ships under him and now he's after a gorgeous woman I know. I'm thinking I'll have to do something about him...after a glass of champagne." He joked.
She filled a glass for him and waited until he took a sip before giving him a quick kiss.  "And what have you been up to while I've been suffering wearing this dress uniform, " she asked as she began to undo the buttons on her tunic.

"Unfortunately I've been waiting on a meeting with Commodore Guzman. To amuse myself whilst passing the time I decided to lose the security guards he had tailing me." He returned the kiss and watched appreciatively at the show before him. "I want you to be careful when you head out there."
She nodded as she slid the tunic off leaving her in her dress pants and a sky blue spaghetti strapped tank top.  She finished the contents in her glass and turned to face him, "So tell me something, how did you get those earring in my office?"

Viktor made a funny face "It was one of three ways. Number one - magic. Number two - Mission Impossible style sneakary from Starfleets best ever assassin...retired of course.  Or number three - I had it checked at security and delivered to your office by someone with clearance."
"Well, if it was number three then they had better clearance than me."  She gave him a big kiss, "Thank you they're beautiful and a perfect match to a certain ring."  She briefly looked to the ring on her finger and admired it for a second.  She laid her head on his shoulder saying, "I suppose it will be another six months before I see you again."  She felt like crying at the thought but didn't.

"I don't think it'll be as long as six months...in fact I think it might be quite a bit sooner depending on the outcome of this meeting. We may be on the verge of agreeing an actual course of action."  Viktor said gently stroking her hair.
Athena moved around until her legs encircled his waist, "Good because ... I hear things and I have a vivid imagination."  She ran her fingers through the hair at his ears, before placing a kiss on his neck.  A small line of kisses followed until she ended up nipping at his ear whispering softly, "Love you."  She giggled at the small growl that let her know she was playing with fire, but her giggle was cut short when her position was changed.

Viktor looked down into her eyes. "Really and what does your imagination tell you my love?"
"Well if I add it to the things that I've heard about you and a blonde colonel.... it wouldn't be the first time you've been in this position recently."

Viktor had the unfortunacy to be taking a drink of his champagne when she said that.  Said champagne was swallowed hastily and incorrectly causing Viktor to roll over onto his back in a coughing fit which dissolved into hysterical peals of laughter.  Eventually with his sides aching he said "Serena? Really? Well that would be one hell of an achievement...especially considering you're more her type than I am."  Viktor laughed again wiping away tears of laughter from his eyes.
Athena sat up and poured herself some more champagne and drank it while Viktor got his fits of laughter.  "Are you finished," she asked too calmly.  "Guess now that I have a name I could go and check it out for myself," she said as she started to push to her feet.

"To be fair you've already met her.  Colonel Serena Anios, the Hermes is her ship albeit my flagship as the carrier has the best command and control facilities. I'm surprised you didn't pick up on her sexuality when you met her. Plus why do you think she volunteered to lend you a uniform?"  Viktor smiled.
"As I recall anger was about the only thing she was sending my way.  I thought because you ordered her too, but I think I should get to know her better."  Athena picked up her tunic and asked, "Any ideas where she might be a the moment?"

"She'll be on the Hermes.  You want to see the new ship?"  Viktor asked.
"Is it any harder to get on than the last one," she asked.

"A lot but considering you walked into an ambush set for Romulan saboteurs the last time I don't think you are fully aware of how hard the last one was usually to get aboard." he replied.
"Perhaps..."  She leaned against the trunk of the tree not want to give up the hiding spot that the tree provided just yet.  "I'd love to see the new ship but ....  I'm not sure that's what I want to spend my last minutes doing."

Viktor stood and embraced her holding her close and whispered in her ear "And what do you want to do with the last of your free time?"
She snuggled closer into him and closed her eyes before saying, "This...," and kissed a line of small kisses up his neck, "Or this...," kissing him on the lips, "or maybe there's something you'd like to suggest."

"I think your imagination is working well enough for the two of us." He said happily.

***Main Engineering, Deck 16, USS Chimera-C***

Anya walked into Main Engineering looking for either of the top two guys in the department.  It irked her that she didn't have enough resources nor admittedly enough technical know-how to get what she needed put in place.  She asked one of the technicians where to find either of the two men she was looking for and he pointed in the direction of a blond haired man with his head half under a console.

Gustav was busy fixing a console that fused when he was working on it, he was going over some readings from a diagnostic on the impulse manifolds he was running when bang the screen went out, the other engineer's were busy so he decided to put the diagnostic on hold and fix the console. Gustav was just about finished when he heard someone stop at his feet, he moved from under the console and saw a marine captain in front of him "Is there anything I can help you with ma'am?" he asked.

Anya replied coldly "Don't call me Ma'am. I work for a living if you have to call me anything Captain will do. I came to see you Leftenant to see if you could help me put some rail launchers in both of the Flight Decks"

"Aye Captain" Gustav said "what do have in mind capability wise I mean?" he asked.

"Enough launchers to deploy a Flight simultaneusly from each bay so 8 in total and we also need them to be able to recharge within 15 seconds and provide a 10 to 20% boost on unaided deployment."  Anya looked at him to see if the harsh demands would phase him.

Thinking over what was needed Gustav decided it was plenty doable but he needed some specs so he asked Anya to follow him to a console with a large view screen, he pulled up the specs on the two hanger bays and input the requirements that he was given into the computer. Standing back from the screen he asked "is this alright", the screen showed 4 EM launchers in each bay set into the floor each one slightly offset so as to not interfere with each other during launch.

"The launchers need to be 2 to 3 metres shorter otherwise there is the chance of them launching parked fighters as well. Otherwise an additional boost in those launchers power would be helpful too."  Anya said without taking her eyes off the screen.

"Sure thing" Gustav said while tapping in the modified specs. "Hmm" Gustav said concerned "with the extra power needed to get the fighters up to speed with the shorter launchers we don't have enough power" he added while thinking of a solution.

"GOT IT" Gustav enthusiastically said "we could install an supplementary generator that would supply the extra power needed" thinking a bit more he added "and we could set it up so that even if main power failed you could still run at least 1 launcher in each bay off it".

"Maybe" Anya replied "Or another alternative is if we could find a way to tap the power from the warp cores in the fighters themselves.  The power used for self propelled launch would come from the fighters impulse engines so the warp engine power mostly goes to waste."

"That would probably work as well but I would have to see the power output figures of the cores installed on the fighters... unfortunately I'm not cleared for that at the moment" Gustav said impressed at the suggestion.

Anya did a rough calculation in her head. "Well there's only about fifteen people in the Federation with that info and I'm one of them but I don't have the clearance to tell you exact figures either.  I'd advise you to work off the figure of around 120% of a Type-12 Shuttle's output."  In actuality that figure was quite a way shy of any of the new fighter's outputs but it would cover the extra requirement of the EM Launchers easily.

Gustav input the latest figures into the console even though he knew that the figures were probably short as no one tells anyone absolute specifics unless they have to. "Well this the latest the computer's come up with" Gustav said letting the marine captain look over what was on screen "now this is all ruff stuff at the moment it will still take a couple of days to finalise the plans if they meet your requirements that is" he added.

Anya nodded and said "It's good enough from what I can see when the finalised plans come through send me a copy and I can have my people go over them. Speaking of I'd better get back to kicking them into shape.  Thank you for your help Leftenant, when we get back I'll buy you a drink."

"Aye captain will do, oh and I'll hold you to that drink" Gustav said as he smiled at Anya.

*** Chimera's Bridge***

Tommy sat at the security station and studied the screen. The scanner technician had just sent him the information on the the two medical staffers currently being held in the brig. " Damn. Looks like he was right. Commander Summers is not going to like this." Tommy grabbed a datapadd and connected it to the station interface. He typed a command and soon the data was transferred to the padd. He then called over the Specialist standing by the door.

" Take over the station and have Johnson send someone to replace you. I have an appointment with Medical. Also, have a couple of the interrogation specialists try to talk with the crew in the brig." Tommy was hoping that they could get a confession, but wasn't holding his breath. The specialist nodded and sat down at the desk.

Tommy walked to the doors. " Time to face the good doctor."

[Observation Lounge - Docking Pylon-C - SB 234: UNITY]

Captain Cropa Arnold Rojac pulled down on the pristine white front of
his dress coat as he paused before the doors to the
lounge. As Captain of the newly commissioned Chimera-C, many eyes were
going to be dissecting him this evening. He took in one last, deep
breath and entered the room.

The cacophany surrounded him. Clinking glasses, loud murmurings, the
rush of people wanting handshakes and
offering congratulations; it was rather nerve-racking. Rojac grit his
teeth beneath his trademark smirk and pushed himself through the
crowd, shaking hand after hand, toward the large viewport and stage.

Commanders Wellington and Trzetrzelewska had done a wonderful job
decorating the room. The stage was elegant,
with a large table in the center adorned with an ice replica of the
new battleship. A glass podium stood before that with an access to a
public address comm. Rojac glanced about the room of uniformed
personnel and then checked his chronometer. It was almost time.

Gustav and Mimi entered the lounge arm in arm, he was wearing his
white dress uniform with what ribbons he could
put on he didn't have as many as some of the officers in the room but
he hasn't been in Starfleet as long, Mimi was
wearing a beautiful purple dress that showed off her figure perfectly
and only served to enhance her beauty.

Turning to Mimi, Gustav asked nervously "do you think we will have to dance???".

Mimi worried to herself {I sure hope that Athena was right about it
being ok for me to where this dress instead of my
uniform.} She flashed a smile, "Well.... the last time I checked they
didn't force people to dance. So.... I guess
your safe..... unless I want to," she quipped quickly to soften the
blow that he might indeed have to two-step or
cha-cha.

Athena smiled when she saw Mimi and Gustav walk in. She was glad she
had given the junior counselor permission to where the dress instead
of a dress uniform. {She looks lovely in the shade of purple and
happy, too.}

When Curtis arrived, he wasn't surprised to see that there were
already a number of guests already arrived. He had
never been one for punctuality, which made it a small miracle that he
had advanced this far in rank. He strolled
through the lounge, downing a glass of champagne before anyone could
really notice. He stretched his shoulder
absentmindedly. He hated these damn uniforms. He preferred a greasy
jumpsuit any day.

Rojac caught the movement of Commodore Guzman moving toward the stage
and followed suit to stand beside him. He caught Natalia's eyes and
nodded; a subtle order for her to follow as well. Pretty soon the
Commodore, Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, and the entire
Senior Staff were on the stage with their new charge looming in the
viewport behind them.

"Sweetheart," Mimi started pulling Gustav's attention away from the
new engineer named, Horace, "See that woman on the stage with the
black hair and the sort of vacant stare?"

"Yes, I see her" Gustav said looking over some heads.

"That's Commander Wellington.... my boss," Mimi tried to figure out
what the other woman was staring at before meeting Gustav's gaze.

"What's she like?" Gustav asked.

"Ummm ... different ... but nice," Mimi responded.

Up on the stage, Curtis ran a hand through his barely regulation
length black hair, his piercing green eyes gazing
over the crowd. All he could think about was how those diagnostics
were going over on th e Chimera. He stole a glance out of the viewport
and shook his head. He hoped those greenbacks could hold down the fort
for at least a few hours.

Jade was running a little late she had to finish dealing with some
final diagnostics dealing with the EPS relays she
then beamed over to the UNITY to get changed into her dress uniformed
that she hasn't worn since she graduated from SF academy. Walking into
the observation lounge Jade took a glass of champagne off of a tray
that a waiter was carrying she then just looked around she hadn't had
a chance to meet anyone when she transferred from the Quasar.

Rangi had an uneasy feeling that she couldn't pin down. It seemed to
her that Shane was avoiding her {...though I could
be wrong} she told herself, watching him shake hands with Rojac and
begin talking to him {...after all, he can hardly talk to me here and
now.} She had caught his eye only once and that had resulted in a
small smile from him but it was different somehow. Martin though, was
delighted to see her again and bounced up and down with pent up energy
at his forthcoming moment of glory.

Athena had sensed more than noticed when the captain arrived and she
hoped he was pleased with her and Natalia's efforts. When she noticed
the others moving toward the staging area she followed suit as well.
{At least we all look like we belong together in our dress
uniforms.... even if it seems a bit predictable.}

Shane came as late as possible. He had two good reasons for that –
Rangi and little Martin. Knowing Tal'Shiar, they
would strike very soon and he had very little time to get both of them
away of the UNITY … if he was not already late. Pushing his dark
thoughts away, Shane walked a few steps forward, looked at the
gathered audience and said:

"Captain Rojac, Commander Trzetrzelewska, officers and crew,
distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen: I extend
to each of you a very cordial welcome to the launching of the century
class USS Chimera. Today's launching comes at an appropriate time in
history. Several months ago, Romulan empire launched and unprovoked
and unannounced invasion in Federation space and it was here – at the
borders of Federation, Romulan Empire, Erassian Alliance and Klingon
Empire where the invasion was repelled. It was the bravery and
sacrifice of many thousand officers and our Erassian friends that
stopped the Romulans … as well as the superior technology and
construction quality of our ships.
Maintaining this high standards, I am proud to present you the shiny
new USS Chimera – equipped with the best and newest technology
Starfleet can offer today."

Shane paused before going on:

"There is a lot of work and sweat behind this new ship. Countless
hours of more then thousand Engineers back at
Omega shipyards. Therefore I would like to thank all those men and
women who built this ship and turned a designer's
dream into reality. My next thanks goes to Special Forces command for
all the resources assigned to this project and
flawless cooperation with the ship yard development team … naming just
a single person here, Commander Bren Ohmsford."

Shane paused for the second time and went on:

"We are also honored to have with us today one of Starfleet most
outstanding officers. The reputation and great accomplishments of
Captain Cropa Arnold Rojac are known to us all, and because of his
foresight and brilliant leadership Starfleet and all Federation is
fortunate today to have one of the best ship's crew ever in its
defense."

Shane looked at Cropa and called: "Captain Cropa Arnold Rojac!"

Rojac responded to Rangis request for a meeting within a
few minutes of her making it. She had barely had time to
lay her case on her new bed when the reply came...he was
free to see her now if she wished it.

She did and leaving her belongings where they were, headed
for his office immediately, certain that he would have the
answers to her questions. There was still no word from
Shane and she wondered what the meeting could possibly be
about that could keep him engaged for so long.

Rojac beckoned her in after she pressed the chime. She

stepped in from the bridge to see the captain perusing
over reports from the top of his large wooden desk. Rojac
looked up and made eye contact.

"Well, if it isn't my new Chief Medical Officer." He
smiled, vaguely, under the stress of last minute
preparations. "I suppose you have some questions,
Commander?"

"Yes I do." Rangi replied as she crossed the room towards
him. " I would 'very' much like to know why I'm here." she
added coming to halt in front of his desk. " I havent been
able to speak to Commodore Guzman yet so I'd like you to
tell me please....why am I off the Starbase and transferred
here?"

She spoke politely enough but couldnt quite hide the air of
frustration as she met his gaze.

"The memo detailing the purpose behind the decision is
classified, and
I'm only authorized to share it with you on a need-to-know
basis." He
looked up and saw the building frustration in Rangi's eyes.
"You know
how the SSF operates, bear with me. I'm only the messenger."

She nodded quickly but said nothing that might delay the
explanation.
She wasnt though expecting his next words.

"Commodore Guzman has had a threat made against his life,

and against

yours and your son's. Command believes it to be the best
decision to
place you here on the Chimera to act as Chief Medical
Officer in order
to get your distance from SB 234 and the Commodore. Your son
Martin
will also be placed in protective custody outside off of the
base."

Her lips parted as she stared at him.{So thats what the
meeting was about.} she thought.

"Martin is being moved too?" she asked. " Do you know where
he's going?...can you tell me?"

"That I'm not completely sure." Rojac replied. "It is my
understanding
that his destination is completely up to you and Shane, as
long as
it's not on an SSF starship or SB 234."

" I see." she said and without permission, sank down onto
the vacant chair opposite Rojacs
and let her gaze fall onto the littered desk top.
"How long do I have to stay?" she asked meeting his eyes
again.

"The order is only to stand until such a time that the
Commodre's life
is no longer directly threatened." Rojac replied.

"Right." She looked away again and tried to make sense of
it.
"Thankyou for telling me." she said after a few moments had
passed. " It answers a few questions."
She stood up. " I appreciate it Captain."

"No problem, Commander." He said, dragging a file back toward him from
across his desk's screen. "I will see you at the launch ceremony. You
are dissmissed."

*** Stephen Jacobs Quarters * SB Unity. ***

Stephen shook his head and sighed, stood up from his relaxed
position on his comfortable sofa and headed towards his
bedroom.
Fifteen minutes later, he was freshly showered and carefully
inspecting his reflection in a tall mirror, adjusting his
collar and tugging a little at the tunic.

Satisfied with the results, he returned to the main room,
collected the padd he had been reading and strode with it in
his hand towards the door.

His long stride carried him along the corridor and he
thought how he quite looked forward to days such as this
when new Starships began their ceremonial life. There was
something almost touching about it.

His interest too was always peaked by events that involved
formal dress. He found he could learn alot by simply
observing how a man wore his medals...or lack of them in
some cases..and he knew anyone could learn alot about a
woman by the dress she chose to wear.

He liked watching people. It was part of his job to observe
and listen and evaluate but he never tired of it and from
time to time when the odd dignitory or two had visited the
Starbase, he had always looked forward to the formal
meetings.

When the news was announced that Unity was to become the
home of the 1st Task Force, Stephens initial surprise for
the idea had soon been tempered by the quick realisation
that the visiting dignitaries would come more often and be
more senior than those who'd come before.'People watching'
would take a sharp upturn.

He waited for the turbo lift to arrive and spent the few
seconds preparing the padd to send a message. He looked up
when the doors opened and stepped inside followed by two
others once all but one of the occupants had exited.
He took a place in the left hand corner of the lift,
nodding briefly when asked if he was going to the launching
ceremony and as the lift hummed into movement, he had
already begun tapping his reply.

" Remember that sometimes you cannot see the wood for the
trees, that the most obvious place to look is the one in
front of you and that answers are often simple and need only
a little research into the patients most recent history to
provide an answer.
A few minutes research would have told you Bluethistle was
one of only a handful of badly injured survivors from a
ship destroyed by a Romulan WarBird. His knowledge of the
language means he easily understood the name Akhiy
T'rhaiilng...the Black Horse. This should have told you the
reasons for his stress disorder sooner. Although he would
doubtless enjoy meeting his brother again I do not advise a
visit to the horse ranch in the immediate future.
Read the attached notes of my evaluations and learn from
them."

He signed his name "Jacobs" at the end and was about to send
the message when he thought of something else and made an
addition.

"By the way" it read " Bluethistle is a master chess player.
He was humouring you."

The message was sent to 2nd Lt. Mnemosyme Nyx Jr. Counselor.

Stephen wore an inner smile as he exited the turbo lift
after the other occupants and walked with them along the
wide promenade leading to the Observation Lounge near Pylon
C, his appetite for the coming launch ceremony already
whetted.

= Starbase Unity =

Since her return from the Rapier, Natalia hadn't bothered unpacking any of her belongings... all of which fit into one box since most of it was lost with the Chimera-B. What little she had had remained unpacked while she served on the Rapier; she didn't have much need for anything personal onboard the ship since it was only a temporary assignment. With the Chimera-C being ready and prepared, she just sent the box off to the new ship and had minimal other packing to do. She had spent perhaps no more than twelve nights in the temporary quarters in the last several months.

Before going to settle in on the new Chimera, Natalia decided to pay a visit to Pazla, who had served as Acting XO on the Rapier. Pazla's name had not appeared on the list of crew commissioned for the Chimera-C; along with several other former Chimera officers, she had been temporarily reassigned during the ship's hiatus but had been told she would be formally reassigned once the mission on the Rapier was over. As far as Natalia knew, that had not happened yet and since her conversation with Hank, Pazla's name was on top of Natalia's list of suggestions as the perfect candidate for the Rapier's XO position.

Pazla was sitting on her sofa in her temporary quarters reading a book of Klingon poetry, one of her favourite pastimes. She looked up as the chime sounded and put her book down, straightening her shirt before going to the door. "Come in," she said, and the door slid open to reveal Commander Trzetrzlewska outside.

"Commander," Pazla greeted her, surprised at the unexpected visit. "Please, come in. Excuse the mess."

"Hi, thank you," Natalia smiled as she stepped inside. Despite Pazla's apology, her quarters were definitely not messy. "Sorry to show up unannounced, but I was on my way to the Chimera and there was something I wanted to discuss with you."

"Of course," Pazla nodded. "Have a seat," she said, indicating the seating area. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

"No, thank you," Natalia said as she sat down on the sofa opposite Pazla. "I won't be staying long. You know that Commander Telson will be taking command of the Rapier again." Pazla nodded and Natalia continued. "I met him yesterday and he asked me if I could think of anyone who would make a good XO for the Rapier... seems like he's looking around for someone. I wanted to ask you if it's all right if I put your name forward?"

Pazla was surprised and didn't quite know what to say. "Yes, definitely," she replied. It would be a great boost for her career if she were chosen for the position.

Natalia smiled and nodded. "I'm glad. You performed very well on the Rapier and you know the ship by now. I think you'll be an excellent choice. I'm going to include two other names for him, but you are by far the best candidate in my opinion." Getting up from her seat, Natalia said. "Are you coming to the launch ceremony."

"I wouldn't miss it, Commander," Pazla grinned as she stood up. The Chimera had been the first ship she served on and would always have a special place for her.

"I'll see you there then. Commander Telson will probably contact you soon to set up an interview. I think you two will get along great together," Natalia said as she walked towards the door. "Goodbye, Pazla."

"Bye Commander," Pazla said as Natalia left. As the door closed behind her she returned to the sofa and just sat for a while staring out of the window into space thinking about what the future would hold.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.08 Duty Log LtJg. Kroitzer & NPC Ensign Hoeler

=/\= Turbolift =/\=

Mimi looked at the padd she held one more time.  {I can't believe I'm
being ordered to give Gustav an evaluation.}  She shook her head as
she waited for the lift to reach the engineering deck requested.  A
sudden jolt had her looking up from the floor to see the lift had
stopped somewhere between decks.
=/\= CEO's Office =/\=
Gustav had been allowed to use the CEO's office for his psych
evaluation, he wasn't told who it would be that is doing it but he
figured it would be one of the base personnel.

Gustav was waiting in a comfortable seat when his comm. Badge went off.
=/\= Various Parts of the ship =/\=
+taps+  "Ensign Hopeler to Lieutenant Kroitzer"

+taps+ "Gustav here what can I do for you Mimi"

+taps+  "I could use a little help.... I seem to be stuck in lift 2B?"

+taps+ "I'm sorry love but you'll have to call another engineer, I'm
waiting on a psych evaluation"

+taps+ "I know that ... I've been ordered to give it to you and its
not looking good at the moment."

+taps+ "I'll get right on it"

{Like I have a choice... I'm a captive.}

Kroitzer exited the office and went to a control station and brought
up the details from turbolift 2B, he found the problem right away, the
lift safety sensors had a slight power surge causing them to think the
lift was in free fall so they triggered the emergency breaks.

After Gustav reset the safety sensors the brakes released and the lift
was on it way again, he also put a note for beta shift to short out
that problem.

+taps+ "Lieutenant Kroitzer to Ensign Hopeler that should be the lifts
working again"

Mimi had begun to pace the lift not so much because she was bored but
because she had never realized before how small they were.  The lift
lurched and Mimi fell against the wall as it caught her a bit off
guard in mid stride.  "Stop at the next deck and let me off," she
requested hoping that she could be out of there soon.

+taps+ "Thanks."

The lift stopped and Mimi let out a breath as the door hissed open.
{Thank God.}  She stepped out and smiled when she saw Gustav.

Gustav smiled back and asked "Are you ok?" after seeing the relived
smile on Mimi's face.

She looked back over her shoulder at the lift before answer, "Umm.... yeah."

"I'm glad, so shall we get the evaluation done then?" he asked wanting
to get it over and done with, Gustav didn't like people playing with
his mind even if it was his pretty partner.

"Yes, and then could there be some time for a nice quiet lunch?"  She
didn't exactly wait for an answer as she switched gears from personal
to professional, but here next question was so casually asked that
almost seemed as if she were just asking about his day.  "What your
new boss like?"

"He seems nice enough… very straight to the point" Gustav said not
really  "and about that lunch it would have to be a quick bite as I'm
very busy".

She flashed him a smile and continued, "Is it too stressful being so busy?"

"Not really, I try not to let my work get on top of me" he said not
really thinking about the answer, "and I have a really understanding
girlfriend that I can always talk to when something is bothering me"
he added while smiling at Mimi.

"It doesn't even get to be too much when dealing with a new boss and
having to save damsels in distress, plus it being a new ship?"

"No not really, when it does seem like things are getting on top of me
I step back take a deep breath then delegate to a certain degree, just
to ease the pressure a bit, so I can get on with more important tasks"
Gustav explained.

"And as for saving distressed damsels it's the high point of the day"
he said while flashing a wickedly cheeky smile at Mimi.

She stopped in her tracks with a slightly puzzled look on her face and
asked, "Exactly how many damsels in distress have you saved today?"

"Just the one today, but there has been more, with it being a new ship
doors get stuck, lifts jam and I add it's not just damsels there has
been quite a few men in distress as well" he added seeing the slightly
worried look start to fall across Mimi's face.

"Giving you an evaluation definitely isn't a good idea," she mumbled
before asking her next question.  She thought she knew the answer to
what she was about to ask but sometimes people can surprise you, "Do
you like the new ship?"

"Yes…. lots of new toys to play with…. big boys toys though" Gustav answered

"You sounded just like... how Little Martin sound's when he gets a new
replica of a ship."  She pulled on his arm a bit until he turned to
face her, "I'm done ... so how long do we have for lunch?"

Gustav looked at his 20th century Rolex watch replica and said "oh
about 3/4 of an hour…enough time for a nice bite to eat"

Chimerans!

Good week kids. This week the Chimera will launch and the launching
ceremony will be held. Get ready, because we will be back in the
action yet again. Lets see how long we can keep this ship in tact,
shall we?
Our first mission will consist of a shakedown cruise, with maybe a
surprise or two incorporated. Remeber, this ship is fresh out of R&D
and will have some innovative gadgets aboard. You may have noticed the
captain's desk. I'll admit, I borrowed the idea from a recent David
Mack Star Trek novel in which he had a similar interface through the
Starship Titan (Will Riker's command). I envision this system being
integrated throughout the ship, itegrated throughout the offices and
down corridors.
The best part: it's customizable, and it recognizes each individual's
bio signature. Therefore you can access all of your character's data
from any console ont he ship, and it's secured.
Feel free to play with new technology on this ship, and lets bring
some of that aspect of Star Trek to this sim. Hey, Star Trek did
invent cell phones and hands-free devices; look where we are now. :)

==============================================
-------------------------
- Summary (by Lord Ixus)
-------------------------
The week kicks off with Bren taking the Chimera-C to SB Unity and
reveals the insurance policy of Chimera-D is in the works (See you
next year ::waves::). Cropa meets the new CEO, LtCmdr Curtis Scardona
whom he commanded on the USS Dark Horizon. Terek chats with Shane
regarding the upcoming mission to Aeren III's mining colony and
staffing issues...what do you mean Anya's weird??? Shane has dark
thoughts about the days ahead but his Emo phase is interrupted by the
news of Chimera's arrival. Cropa and Lernen chat about tracking down
Rick's attackers but the pursuit is too risky and the agents too
valuable...wonder if they're insured? Natalia and Hank the CO of the
Rapier talk supernatural spooks and fast times at Starfleet High.
Rangi and Shane talk physicals and readiness...double-entendre much?
Cropa takes command of his new lean, mean, killing machine...yay, no
more flying office blocks, exploration missions or meet and greets
with horny midgets! Natalia makes discreet enquiries with Rangi about
the condition of the former CSec Lt Lakqost. Cropa promotes Gustav to
Lt JG and he goes to celebrate with his girlfriend Mimi...at least
they manage to avoid another episode of drop the soap! Athena has
problems boarding the ship and asks Cropa to step in and help. Nym
meets her superior Dr. Jacobs and the electricity flows between
them...although less romance and more tesla coil. Nym does a
psychological workup on a Unity crewman worried about Romulan
probings...the war takes a nasty development! Gustav gets a check-up
from Rangi and the only thing that needs fixing is the coffee machine.
Tommy writes up his first report on the new ship which talks about
two more engineers being arrested...I think we should ban the
engineers from drinking Absinthe! Dr. Jacobs reads Nym's report and
sends her a pony...isn't that every young girls dream? Shane finds
out he is on the Tal'Shiar Black List (...so is that like American
Express Black Card then? Uber cool but ultra useless.) and begs Bretam
to send Rangi away to Chimera...boy this'll come back to bite him in
an argument big time. Cropa and Natalia talk shop about rotas and
department heads needed. In a backlog Vlimar and Natalia talk about
Rick being turned into a vegetable...hmm, Chimera branches out into
prize winning vegetables. Rangi explains her situation and meets some
stonewalling from Shane's office. Cropa discovers Athena's ban from
the ship was put in place by the JAG for 'classified' reasons (see
page 105 of 'We Don't Trust Viktor Ivanov: Volume 3'). Vlimar beats
another subordinate who proves a bit more aggressive than the last...I
hereby motion that Vlimar be therefore known by the nickname 'Quarter
Pounder'. Rangi and Scott discuss their sudden transfers and room
arrangements. Nym writes a follow up report on her patient finding
out why he isn't a member of the Pony Club. Dr. Jacobs oogles the new
Chimera for a while then replies to Nym 'Romulans'...the Romulans
secretly control Lloyds TSB?
(http://www.sweeblenews.com/media/stories/phpr9IMKM_.jpg [explicit
content!]) Athena gets a present from her fiance and a red blanket
brings back memories of his bloodshot eyes.

So will the bold Chimera-C venture forth next week or will it hit
technical difficulties? Will Athena be revealed to be under
investigation for illegal distribution of hokey-kokey songs? And will
anyone actually glean information from this summary? Find out next
week on the next exciting instalment of USS Chimera!

Shane was sitting behind a dark metal desk, thinking about
how unfamiliar and unfriendly his office on SB 234 looks.
From all the offices he had used during his career in
Starfleet, he liked the Task Force CO's office on board
Chimera-B best. Large red wood desk, comfortable chairs and
models of various Starfleet ships as well as several
Ricewind pictures made the office to a comfortable place …
where he felt at ease.

And now his Chief Counsellor has had her access restricted under the
authority of the Judge Advocate General, and Rojac had no idea why.
Rojac missed his days of being a mere Tactical Officer; and that
reminded him that he didn't have one of those right now either.
Oh, the joys of command.

RANGI:

As the proverb says...'All that glisters is
not..err...Latinum?? .......
Bren suddenly had a vision of himself standing in Janeway's
office having to explain why yet another Chimera had been
lost, but then she reassured him that had already sent in a
request for a new ship, the Chimera-D, and she'd set aside
stores of latinum (which she won in a game of Quhn'Dok from
a Klingon) to pay for the new ship... which was needed at
regular intervals. "There's no need to worry, Bren," Janeway
said as she strolled to her the safe in her study and opened
it up, revealing the bars of latinum inside. "We're already
there." "Already there?" Bren asked, puzzled by her
statement and somewhat dazzled by the glimmering latinum
bars.

Commander Bren Ohmsford Science Advisor 1st Task Force, SSF
=======================================================================
The most worrying part is...these two are now in
CONTROL!!!....................

"Yes, I remember the Rio Grande," Natalia said as things
became a little clearer. "But I still don't remember you.
That was the mission where the Borg ended up assimilating
the Cardassian crew we were supposed to save and Pendleton
nearly threw up on the Bridge cause he'd been out the night
before."
"Yeah! That's the one. That mission was a dismal failure,"
Hank laughed. "I nearly flunked that semester because of
that stupid mission. How was I supposed to know there were
nanites in the transporter system?"
"So that's the reason why K'Tai was hauled up in the
Infirmary for a week?" she incredulously as long forgotten
questions were suddenly answered. "I'd wondered about that.
One moment she was beamed to Engineering and the next
Pendleton informs us Professor Ardex took her to the
Infirmary."
Hank nodded enthusiastically. "My fault, I admit it. Now I
know to a diagnostic before you use the transporter on
someone, not afterwards."
"Oh, don't worry," Natalia said wryly. "It's partly my fault
the Cardassian ship got assimilated. I accidentally fired a
photon at it which dropped its shields allowed the Borg to
beam through and the rest is history. But, in my defence,
after K'Tai was taken to the Infirmary, Pendleton, in his
drunk state, took over the helm in manual control and
looking at the viewscreen made my head spin. So, when all is
said and done, it's really your fault. If K'Tai had come
back I wouldn't have missed and we might still have had a
chance to win the scenario."
She crossed her arms and smiled wickedly at him as if he'd
just confessed to a crime.

Vlimar was expecting the Romulans to get a kamikaze like

developments.
"There were no incidents and we didn't pick up any Romulan
activity," she reported, deciding to leave out the several
near-collisions with the shuttle bay doors since the

OOC..always liked this epitaph..........
Chimera was all these things and more and words he had read
long ago surfaced again in his memory. { Beauty without
vanity...strength without insolence...courage without
ferocitiy...and all the virtues of man without his vices.}
Stephen smiled to himself. The last phrase didnt really fit
a Starship but the words referred to a dog, one that someone
had loved enough to carve an epitaph for. Captains loved
their ships in a similar way and engineers loved their
engines, so perhaps it was fitting after all.

If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If
you are having problems finding things to write about or would just

-------------------------
- On Report
-------------------------
Any officer who is Absent Without Leave (0) for two or more consecutive
weeks is considered "On Report." Crewmen on report should email the
command staff immediately to explain their absence (too much to do in
RL is a fine excuse) and say when they anticipate being able to log
again in the future.
The following crewmen are on report:

none
-------------------------
- Removals/Resignations
-------------------------
The following crew have either resigned or have been dropped due to
lack of activity. If they would like a position on the USS Chimera,
they will need to reapply.
