[Conference Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]
It had been one hour since Rojac had ordered the Chimera to depart SB
234, and to set course for the testing grounds in the Calder system,
past Calder IV. The stars streaked by the aft view of the ship from
the conference room window. The senior staff had gathered, as per
Rojac's orders, to discuss departmental priorities and the tests to be
performed during the shake-down cruise.
Rojac cleared his throat and stood from his chair at the head of the
table to gather every one's attention. "Now that we're all
here, let's get down to business. We'll go around the table. Tell me
what your department has done so far, what it still needs to do, and
when it will get done." He took his seat again and looked over to his
left where MCap Anya Xerxes sat. "You first, Captain."
"All fighters are aboard and are ready to commence operations. The
pilots of the Z-105 Shadow's and the I-210 Amaterasu are checked out
on their respective craft. The problem arises with my AX-02 Lancer
pilots, so far they are only checked out on the simulator package and
haven't had any chance to fly with each other yet. So we need about a
week to get up to speed because as we all know simulating just doesn't
compare to the real thing." The last bit was said in conjunction with
an obscene hand gesture.
"I'm also looking into getting some support systems installed in the
Flight Decks and also looking to get some soundproofing put in as
well…the new coil engines in the lancers are noisier than hell and I
doubt the neighbours would appreciate my fine taste in music. Time
scales on that I'll leave open ended as I'm not sure if we'll have the
time to get that done." Anya looked around to see if anyone had any
comments or questions but no one did.
Scardona cleared his throat when he realised that it was now his turn.
Truthfully, he didn't even know where to begin. So much to do, so
little time. He shrugged before beginning his report.
"Well, we're pretty much all set with the warp drive. We've raised
efficiency by 33%, which is more then up to snuff. I would caution
against using the transporters for the time being though. New
transporter systems are notoriously buggy, so I'd like to run a full,
level three diagnostic before we start sending people through, as a
precaution. Should take a couple of days. Other then that, just expect
the standard bugs that come with a new ship."
Rangi got to her feet. " I'm sorry Captain but may I request that I
defer my report until I've had time to examine my department fully?"
She looked at Rojac meaningfully, silently referring to her hurried
last minute arrival.
Rojac nodded. "Of course, Commander Summers. But please get a report
to me as soon as possible." He gestured toward the Counsellor.
"Commander Wellington..."
"We've managed to track down the couple of existing staff that still
needed evaluations and now only have a few straggling new Transfers to
complete. So far there seem to be no problems," Athena stated simply.
As her eyes fell to the one person in the room who had yet to give her
time to do an evaluation. {You and I will talk Anya.}
The new science officer, Lt Xindi Ra-Zerphimi, stood with a broad
smile across his face as Athena took her seat. "Greetings all. It's a
pleasure to finally meet you all." He took a rather illustrious bow,
which caused Rojac to snicker slightly under his breath. The science
officer stood erect once more to give his report. "The science
department's priorities at the moment would be in the sensor pallets
and the stellar cartography systems. the sensors are operational
enough, however I see room for improvement in the resolution quality.
With a more efficient power distribution matrix, I believe that we
could boost our scan quality by 13%. I can transfer these
modifications to the Engineering department at the top of the hour."
He made a show of clearing his throat, and brushing his long white
mustache aside before continuing. "The stellar cartography systems
would benefit greatly from the sensor calibrations as well, however my
priorities there focus more upon research proposals. Those can wait
until after the shakedown cruise, however." He paused and looked
around the table, holding up his empty palms. "I believe that's all I
have for today, comrades." He turned to his left toward Lieutenant
Jardan, "You're next, Lieutenant."
Tommy looked rather taken aback from the odd characteristics of the
efrosian science officer, he was (to say the least) a very eccentric
character with odd mannerisms. The most surprising story was that
Ra-Zerphimi had quite a reputation of being a ladies man, not
surprising for a race that was well-known for its liberal sexual
practices.
Never-the-less, Jardan gave his report, detailing the files of the
four crew currently held in the brig and other findings from his
detailed background checks on the Chimera-C's crew. He also informed
the Senior Staff of the upcoming situational drills that were
scheduled, and the different departmental plans for emergency
situations. At the conclusion of his report, he turned the floor over
to 1Lt Jade Reese, Chief Operations Officer.
"We're still running generic diagnostics trying to find any bugs we
can fix before they pop up." Jade said looking around the table, "I
can spare some personnel to help any departments that needed." Jade
also added.
"That may be necessary, Lieutenant Reese." Rojac said from a reclined
position in his chair. "See if you can spare a few system operators to
help in Commander Scardona's level three diagnostic of the transporter
system. That is to vital a system to not have fully operational;
preferably before we test it during the shakedown cruise. I want at
least one transporter room ready for human transport by this time
tomorrow. Commander Summers, I want you to test the system when it is
ready, to make sure subject molecular integrity will remain intact."
"I'll see to that Sir." Rangi replied, knowing that as soon as the
meeting came to an end, she must begin her work in sickbay and compile
the detailed report Rojac requested. Although Scott would have made a
start, she would inspect everything herself, including the transporter
system. Her father had died during a transport or, more correctly, in
the seconds before and after. A thorough investigation had been
conducted which showed no malfunction with the system but Rangi would
oversee this herself.
"Commander Wellington, your priority is to finish those evaluations.
As we're at war, I need everyone aboard at their peak level of
efficiency. Notify the security department and myself immediately of
any problems. As for you, Lieutenant Jardan, keep your men at the
ready. At all times I want at least one team on scramble notice so
that we're always in a state of readiness. This should follow for all
departments, but especially yours. I trust you will set a shining
example."
Athena nodded at the captains orders feeling sure that all the
evaluations would be completed either by the end of this day or the
next.
Rojac crossed his arms and stood. "Commander Trzetrzelewska here will
be running the tests from the bridge when we arrive at 1150 tomorrow
morning. She's in charge of the schedule of events. I will be making
rounds for a personal inspection. Put your people on notice: if I see
something I don't like, it will be dealt with. Are there any
questions?" he looked around at the blank faces for a moment. "Good.
I'm tired of talking. Natalia, you have the floor. Please share with
us the plan for the shakedown tests." Rojac retook his seat, waving a
hand in his executive's direction.
Natalia took over without hesitation, quickly hopping to her feet with
a handful of padds the she handed out to every officer seated around
the table. "We start at 0700 tomorrow moving with starship
maneuverability procedures, the defensive systems, transporters,
tractors, sensor sweeps, cloaking and live weapons testing." The
half-halanan Executive officer said as she rounded the table. "The
padds contained the detailed schedule of events. Captain Xerxes, you
are cleared for test flights all day tomorrow out of hangar bays one
and two. Lieutenant Kroitzer's latest memo says that your launchers
should be completed by 1030 tonight; though you may want to test them
before operations."
Rojac looked up as Natalia resumed her seat once more. "Well, my
friends, that concludes tonight's meeting. We have a lot of work to
do. Let's get it done. You know where to find us if you need us.
Dismissed."
