"Dammit Jenkins! Why hasn't that power imbalance been corrected yet!?"

The Chimera's new Chief Engineer was not happy. With only a few hours left until the official send-off of the Chimera, Curtis Scardona was still waist deep in the usual problems faced by a brand spanking new ship. And his new staff was bordering on incompetency. A simple power imbalance in one of the EPS conduits was taking much too long to fix. And he didn't have time to babysit these greenbacks. He had to get into a clean dress uniform for the send-off. He sighed and wandered over to the console where Jenkins was struggling with the problem.

"Move over, Ensign. Watch what I'm doing here."

He accessed the main EPS controls and then used an override code to open up its main test menu. He proceeded to correct the power imbalance, diverting the extra power to where it was needed. When he was done, he handed a blank PADD to the ensign, exasperation in his voice.

"Make sure you remember how to do that. Now, check the rest of the EPS manifolds and get a report to me by the end of the day."

After an extremely curt acknowledgment from the ensign, he looked at a nearby chronometer. Damn, he thought. Curtis walked into his office and gathered his things, leaving one of the older Lieutenants in charge until he got back. He wasn't looking forward to the ceremony in the least. In his mind, it just delayed his inevitable discovery of all the bugs that were laying in wait within the ships systems. With another sigh, he exited Main Engineering and headed back to his quarters.

Mnemsyme danced before the hitting bag dodging it when it would come back to meet her after she sent it swing.

Jab right, and right again.   Jab left and then right and left and left and a hard punch with the right.  Dodge the bag.  Slow it with a left jab and then a right.  Left jab, left jab... right cross.. right jab, right jab..hard left hook.  Dodge the swinging bag... slow it down with a right and a left and another left.  Right , right , a hard her right ... three quick lefts and a hard right cross.

She repeated the steps over and over until sweat dripped from ... well about everywhere.  {Do I have to connect all the dots for him... is he really that stupid .. or just that blind.  Tried .... of superior.... asinine ....attitude.}

She wiped her forehead with her short shirt sleeve and sat down with a padd and began working while her body cooled down.

Subject: Lieutenant Ignasious Bluthistle
Status:  Unable as well as unfit to do his job    {Not unlike my own boss ... I wonder.}

Lieutenant Bluethistle has an understandable yet unnatural fear of horses and with the recent (about 6 months ago can still be considered recent) attack by the Romulans a fear of them.  His two greatest fears have combined together allowing the lieutenant to live partially in a fantasy world of fear.  He is as liking to tell others to attack the dark knights as he is to attack the Romulans and that is only possible if he doesn't become paralyzed by his own fears.

If the lieutenant could conquer one of his fears he might be able to conquer the others.  However, in playing several games of chess with him, I find his skills a bit lacking.  He far too frequently is weigh the needs of one over the greater good.  I think I one got to know the lieutenant they would realize he has let his fantasy take over to protect himself from having to make tactical decisions, both personally and professionally.

I think a vacation on his brother's horse ranch could be very enlightening.

Mnemosyme sent her further results which thankfully didn't require another visit with the lieutenant.  She shivered from the sweat that had cooled on her skin and headed off for a shower after gathering her things.

=/\= Counseling Offices - Deck 11 =/\=
Athena looked over the half a dozen offices that had been assigned to counseling.  They were cozy in nature but held the same decor as the rest of the ship .... basic metallic.  {If it weren't for the small pieces of furniture ... it would be like any cell on the block.}  She heaved a sigh.  {And the personal quarters aren't much better.... or at least not mine.  Too bad I can't have Anya to get to some really good shops before .... well .... any time soon.}

She had pretty much locked herself away as she checked to be sure the crew had all had their evaluations completed; fortunately there were only a few stragglers.  {Gray ... did they have to make all the walls this .... dull shade of gray.}  She let a puff of air blow the tumbling tress out of her eyes and then deftly moved it behind her ear with her fingers.  She took a padd and began to make a list and when she had made the notes for the counseling offices she moved on to her own quarters.

=/\= Deck Two =/\=
Athena entered her quarters and changed out of her uniform.  Her uniform lay across the bottom of the bed as she pulled on a pair of black shorts and a royal blue tank top.  She traversed the rooms from one end to the other added to the list she had already started.  {Now... let's see if I can find anything one the base.}

=/\= SB 234 - Unity =/\=
Athena had already been in an out of several of the shops but hadn't managed to acquire very much on her list yet.  She did manage to find a half dozen lap blankets to place on the backs of the chairs in the counseling rooms.  The blankets were soft and in various shades of blues and greens which all gave her an immediate sense of peace.  {I hope these will soften those stark rooms up.}

She managed to wonder in about a dozen more shops in the next hour but still had only taken another item or two off her list.  Feeling a bit defeated and defiantly more than a bit tired Athena hurried back to the ship. She managed to make it through the security check without assistance this time but still had to submit to being searched.

=/\= Chimera-C various parts =/\=
Athena hurried along to the counseling offices and started placing the blankets on the chairs she thought the patients would choose to sit in.  She looked at each office critically, {Better ... but still not right.}  She sighed as she moved to do the last office ... Hers.  She entered her own office and felt as if someone else had been there and recently.  She scanned the room as she went to put the aquamarine blanket on the back of its chair.  She artfully arranged the blanket, fanning it across the back.  She gave a smile liking the effect, but the smile quickly went away as her eyes caught sight of a small box sitting on her desk.

Her heart started beating harder as she turned and surveyed the room one last time.  She went to the desk and picked up the box.  Her hand trembled slightly as she lifted the lid inside was a small card that read these reminded me of your eyes.  Under neath the card sat a pair of sapphire earrings.  They were elegant and matched her engagement ring.  The smile returned to her face.  {I wonder how....}  She shook her head and took her last purchase back to her quarters.

Upon reaching her quarters she was aware that there were messages waiting for her.  "Computer play messages," she requested as she took the large blanket that seemed to match the shade of red of Vik's eyes and spread it across the bed.  She took the earrings and tried them on as her messages finished playing.  She winked at her self and took the earrings off, placing them back in the box.  She took the box and placed it in a safe place before going to take a shower and getting dressed in her dress uniform.

Stephen stood, arms behind his back and feet slightly apart,
looking out of the huge view port towards the new Starship
Chimera-C.

He thought her a beautiful sight and descriptive words came
unprompted to his mind as he watched the little worker bees
complete their attentions to the great vessel.
{ Awe inspiring, powerful, deadly, a saviour }
Chimera was all these things and more and words he had read
long ago surfaced again in his memory.
{ Beauty without vanity...strength without
insolence...courage without ferocitiy...and all the virtues
of man without his vices.}

Stephen smiled to himself. The last phrase didnt really fit
a Starship but the words referred to a dog, one that someone
had loved enough to carve an epitaph for. Captains loved
their ships in a similar way and engineers loved their
engines, so perhaps it was fitting after all.

He studied the picture before him until he knew every line,
every curve, every view port, every winking light,
everything.
The fourth ship to carry the name..he wondered what fate
awaited her. Would she die in glory or shame or perhaps she
would retire with a long and valiant history.
{Time will tell} he thought and turned away at last.

A faded and somewhat battered holdall lay on the seat where
he had left it sometime before. He sat down next to it,
opened the top and pulled out a couple of padds.
He often spent time in the viewing gallery and sometimes
brought minor work with him, occasionally feeling that his
spacious office was too cloying. Here, often with a view of
space, he had time to think and ponder.

He read the subject line of the first padd and laid it
aside, turning the second to check it was the one he sought.
It was.

Stretching out his long legs in front of him, he settled
back on the seat and read the report.
When he was done his expression showed a slight vein of
disappointment and he set about sending a responce to the
sender.

{Ahhh..I had expected more than that from you } he thought {
Ofcourse we know about the horses and now you do too but
where is the connection to his dream? Think deeper...}

He sent another one word memo to 2nd Lieutenant Mnemosyme
Nyx.

This time it said simply..'Romulans'

Entering a spatious place, Terek yelled: "We're due to depart in less
than hour, where are those last long range scans I've requested!?" He
was furious. He wanted to confirm the preliminary results he discussed
with Shane. It was Jesica's shift in the main lab quite a large two
story room with controls to everything a science department might need.
All data streams were focused right here and inthe middle of the room
was large 'bowl' that served both as holographic projection area and
central information pit. Terek descended those few stairs that separated
him from the lower level of the pit and approached one of the consoles
on the rim of the bowl where Jesica was standing.

"Sorry sir, but we've had a little trouble with long range sensor array.
The resolution upgrades we've made backfired on us a little."

"What? How?"

"Actually not a whole long range arrya, but just gravimetric sensors,
look." She tapped a fet commands on the console and the pit changed into
the 3D map of the third asteroid belt at the far side of the Aearan
system. Countless of spatial objects appeared. Jessica tapped a few more
commands and the view zoomed on the left center side of the belt where
there appeared to be a cluster of larger asteroids.

"See these? 259 rocks with cores composed of solid gamma zirkonium
trioxide an allotrop of zirkonium that exhibits anomalous gravity
readings. Not actual graviton radiation but enough to confuse our sensor
grid."

"Imposible, gamma zirkonium is in our database, sensors would have
filtered it out."

"Normaly yes, but our resolution enhancements affected recognition
algorythms of gravimetric sensor grids and diagnostics we've made didn't
show it so we've spent last five ours recalibrating whole grid and
inputing a new algorythms ergo the scnas you've requested were
inaccurate and you'll have to make a few course corrections to Qashqai's
route."

"Great and how much time will this detour cost us?"

"Actually it'll buy you about three hours of flight time as you won't
have to go around those gravity fluctuations as there are in fact none
present."

Ready to hear the bad news bajoran CSciO started in ironic voice: "Oh
that's just great..." but then it finally got to him and his expression
changed to surprised one instead "I mean, it's really great! We will
have more time on the Aearan II for negotiating."

"Aye, but if you want to leave in that hour or so as yo uwanted, please
let me finnish those course updates. I'll send them to your helm officer
as soon as I'm finnished." She replied in tone that suggested that she
will say no more and she turned back to the console. The 3D image
disappeared and Terek left the pit as well as the main lab.

=/\= Arboretum - Gaming tables =/\=
Mnemosyme sat at one of the chess tables with Ignasious.  she watched as he studied the board and then moved his bishop up to protect his king.  She smiled as he talked while it was her turn to study the board.  She moved her rook purposely exposing her own king.  She hated playing to loose but it was more advantageous to loose than to win at this time.

"What's your first memory of horses," she asked as she watched the lieutenant set up the board again.

"When I was three I think," he started as he lined up the back row, "my older brother was having a party."

She watched as he began to line up the pawns.  "How do the horse fit into the party," she asked.

"It was a riding party or sorts ... maybe...."

Mnemosyme kept asking questions while she played game after game with Ignasious; letting him win game after game.  Finally when she had what she wanted she changed the flow of the game and enjoyed it more.  The final result was Lt. Bluethistle walking away while she enjoyed the view of her victory.

Subject:  Lieutenant Ignasious Bluethistle
Status:  Continuing report - unfit

Lieutenant Bluethistle's fear of horses is quite normal considering he probably witnessed the death of a young girl while at a party held for his brother.  The death was a result of the girl falling from the horse she was riding at the party; she practically fell at Ignasious' feet.  His fear of horses only intensifies his visions which some how must stem from a more recent experience.  The stress of this experience his keeping him from moving on in his recovery.

Although the Lieutenant's chess skills suggest that his mind is still tactically sharp, his avoidance of his knight keeps him from making great tactical plays.  I believe these types of actions would carrying on into his work if he were allowed back to duty.  His own inability to confront his own fears has him hiding behind a fragile wall that his own mind has built for many years to protect him.

Mnemosyme read over her report, made the appropriate copies and sent it off.  {Jacobs his letting his friendship soften him against this man.}

Rangi stood at the end of a very short queue waiting to
board the new Chimera. She carried a modest sized suitcase
in one hand and her uniform issue shoulder bag in the other.
She did not look happy.

"Rangi?"
She half turned at the sound of the incredulous use of her
name.

"Scott?" she said, using the same tone.

"What are you doing here?" they said in unison.

" You first." Scott said moving to her side as the queue
shuffled forward.

"I had orders to report here. I'm the new CMO apparantly.
Scott looked amazed at this information.
" You?" Rangi asked.

"Same here." he replied "...I was passed fit for duty
yesterday and was all set to go down to the planet soon and
then got late orders sending me here....what's going on?
Where's Maikai?"

"I have no idea." Rangi answered. "I received my orders
about three hours ago."

"What does Shane say?" Scott enquired.

"Nothing." Rangi replied shortly.

" Nothing?"

"No..."
She released a sigh.
" I havent been able to speak to him...he's in a meeting and
can't be disturbed on any account according to Pakosii. I
dont even know if he knows I'm here." She sounded
exasperated.

Scott frowned as he listened to the explanation. It didnt
make sense. {Why the last minute orders?} he asked himself.

Rangi was called forward and gave her name to the security
guard who checked her details and waved her through.
She went a few steps then turned to wait for Scott who also
had clearance without problem.

"I'd like to know what's going on.." she said quietly then
added "...thankyou." as he stooped to pick up her case.

"Wouldn't we all?" Scott muttered."What quarters do you
have?"

They began walking towards the nearest turbolift and Rangi
looked at the details on the slimline padd the security
guard had given her and read then aloud.
" Near mine then." Scott said and, giving a short laugh that
held no humour in it, remarked: "LIke old times isnt it."

Rangi had wanted to see the new ship but not under these
circumstances so she took little pleasure in making her way
to the quarters that would be hers.

"That's you." Scott said five minutes later when they
approached a door already bearing her rank name and
position.
"I'm guessing mine is along here."
They both looked along the corridor and Rangi said . "
Thanks Scott I appreciate it."

"No problem." he said but didnt hand over the case. " I'll
take it in for you."

She consulted the slim padd again and tapped in the security
code. The door slid open and she stepped inside.

"There you go." Scott said, setting the case down inside the
door. "Ok?"

"Yes..fine thankyou." she replied. " I'll catch up with you
in a while...I'm going to try to find out why we're here."

He gave a nod and left her, walking away towards his own new
home. The door slid shut and Rangi walked further into the
room.

It was nice enough, quite spacious and light, it looked
comfortable but she took little notice of her surroundings
as she headed towards a small desk set in the far corner
surrounded by shelving.

She leaned forward, opened the terminal, identified herself
and asked to speak to Captain Rojac at his earliest
convenience, thinking that he of all people would have the
answers to her questions.

[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]

"Well, I guess that's settled." Rojac said aloud, to no one in
particular. He closed the memo he was reading on his desk's user
interface surface and pressed the button on the side to clear the
screen. Commander Summers was to be transferred as the Chimera's Chief
Medical Officer by order of General Kira, head of Starfleet Special
Forces.

The change was quite unexpected. Summers was the Medical Advisor for
taskforce, and a good friend of Rojac's, and long-time partner of
Commodore Guzman; why would she be so quickly and so suddenly
transferred to the chimera, hours before her initial departure?
Perhaps the Commodore would share the reasons for the change in time.

Rojac stood from his desk and walked over to the large viewport. He
gazed out into the large star-field beyond, and saw his reflection
staring back at him in the glass. He was in full dress uniform in
preparation for the bottle-breaking ceremony to take place at the
Chimera's departure. All crew were now aboard, except for Commander
Summers and her last minute position appointments In about two hours,
he would have to report down to the observation area at Docking Pylon
C for the ceremonies, and he had several meetings to partake in before
then as well.

+Ops to Captain Rojac.+ the Captain's combadge came to life.

Cropa reached up to his chest and answered the call. "Rojac here."

+Sir, regarding your request to check the security diagnostics
earlier: apparently there were no errors in the system. Commander
Wellington's restriction of access was legitimate.+

"Really?" Rojac sounded surprised. "On whose orders, and why wasn't I notified?"

The was a slight hesitation on the line. +Uh, from the Judge Advocate
General's office, sir. The matter comes up as classified sir, so I
can't tell you who authorized it.+

Rojac's brow furrowed as he turned away from the window and paced back
towards his desk and switched on the display once more. "Thank you,
ensign." He told the beta-shift bridge officer. "Rojac out." He
quickly accessed the guest list for the send-off ceremony and found
Major Varis Liev, the Taskforce's representative from J.A.G. He was
coming as a guest of Commander Ohmsford. Rojac quickly typed up a
meeting request for prior to the ceremonies and sent it, asking the
Major to come to his office aboard. Then Rojac sent a clearance notice
to the boarding security team, authorizing the visit.

He stood erect, and crossed his arms for a moment before tapping his
combadge once more. "Rojac to Trzetrzelewska."

+Here, Captain.+

"Natalia, some last minute things have come up. I need you and
Commander Wellington to report to the site of the ceremonies to make
sure things run smoothly and get started on time. I will join you as
soon as I can." Rojac reported.

+Understood. Trzetrzelewska out.+

A new, last minute CMO after his previous CMO's husband was attacked
by infiltrators. Four members of the crew were under arrest by his
security department and being held for questioning by Intelligence.
And now his Chief Counsellor has had her access restricted under the
authority of the Judge Advocate General, and Rojac had no idea why.
Rojac missed his days of being a mere Tactical Officer; and that
reminded him that he didn't have one of those right now either.

Oh, the joys of command.

"But 'why' are you going?" Martin insisted.

"Because I have orders and I have to obey them." Rangi
replied, laying more clothes into her case.

"But I don't want you to go." Martin said in a fretful tone
and caught at Rangis hand as she straightened up and looked
around the bedroom.
" I want you to stay here." he said looking up at her with
tearfilled eyes.
It caught at her heartstrings and she knelt down, bringing
herself to his eye level.

" I know you do." she said softly "...and I dont want to go
either...but Chimera needs a CMO and I've been ordered to
fill the position."

"Why cant the other CMO do it?" Martin asked.

"I don't know." Rangi said honestly. " There must be some
problem."

"How long will you be?" he asked turning more tearful by the
second.
Rangi hugged him to her and repeated her answer. " I dont
know sweetheart..if I did then I would tell you. I hope it
wont be for very long."

She felt his warm tears soaking into her uniform. "Please
dont cry." she said patting a hand against his back in
reassurance but feeling like crying herself. She looked up
at the ceiling and blinked a few times as she felt his
little body go rigid in his effort to stop his tears.
Ater a moment she leaned back on her heels and smiled to
him.
"Thats better. I dont like to see you crying and it will be
alright...there's nothing to cry about is there?...hhmmmm?"
He forced a glimmer of a smile back and she gently wiped a
huge tear from his cheek with her fingers.

This had all come as a huge shock out of the blue.
Orders signed by General Kera had arrived telling Rangi to
report to the Chimera-C an hour before departure to take
command of sickbay. No reason was given and with only three
hours left until Chimera - C left the Starbase, it had made
time of the essence.

She had called T'Vel to her office and told her of the new
orders. T'Vel would be acting CMO for the time being and
Rangi expressed her confidence in handing the position to
her deputy.
Once that was settled, Rangi made haste to her quarters to
begin packing but before she did, she contacted Shanes
office.

Pakosii had answered her call telling her that the Commodore
was in a meeting that couldnt be interrupted for any
reason. He would certainly tell the Commodore at the first
opportunity that the Commander wished to speak to him.

Rangi began packing.

Soon after that Martin had returned from school under Lauras
care and Rangi had explained the situation to the young
counsellor adding that she hadnt yet been able to speak to
the Commodore and asking if Laura could care for Martin
until Shane arrived home.
Laura said she could but asked for a short time to complete
something else she had planned for the rest of the afternoon
and with permission, left.
It was then that Martins questions had begun.

"When will Daddy be home?" he asked now and once again Rangi
felt the repeated answer form on her lips so changed it to
sound more definate.
" Probably before you go to bed." she said but I'll see if I
can find out.... lets go and call his office."

She stood up and Martin walked beside her to the console in
the main room, where he scrambled onto one of the high
stools and listened to the conversation.

Pakosii was apologetic.
The Commodore was still engaged in the important meeting and
could not be disturbed. Yes, he said, he would certainly let
him know the moment he was free that the Commander wanted to
speak to him urgently.

Rangi ended the call feeling frustrated and worried too but
kept both hidden from Martin.

"That's Pakosii." he little boy said " I like him alot." and
Rangi agreed that she did too although that would have been
far from the truth if she had known that as soon as the call
ended, Pakosii had entered Shanes office and told him that
Commander Summers had just called again.
He told Shane that he had repeated the message Shane had
ordered him to give if the Commander called, namely that the
commodore was in a meeting and could not be disturbed for
any reason.

Shane thanked him and Pakosii withdrew back to his own small
domain leaving Shane alone and worried.

The door chime sounded.
"That will be Laura back again." Rangi said cheerfully and
Martin ran to open the door as Rangi went to collect her
case.

"I'm afraid I still cant get hold of the Commodore." Rangi
said, returning to the hallway where Laura and Martin were
greeting each other. "..but hopefully he'll be back before
Martin goes to bed."

Laura said it was fine and that she and Martin had plenty to
do to amuse themselves. Martin grinned at her and Rangi took
reassurance from the fact that her son was so happy with
Laura.
She bent down again and said . " You'll be a good boy wont
you? Promise?"

"Yes I will...I'll be very very good." Martin said and had
hugged her in almost a strangle hold before kissing her
warmly and with great enthusiasm.

She stood up, smiling down to him but feeling suddenly
nervous though she had no idea why.
"Ok then...I'm off." she said. " Thankyou Laura...byebye
Martin."

He beamed to her and blew an airkiss when she turned to look
back at him as she left their quarters.

{ I wonder if he knows about this} she thought as she set
off along the corridor { I suppose it depends when this
meeting of his started...perhaps my orders came through
after that. At least Pakosii will tell him to call me as
soon as he's free.}

[USS Chimera] SD 240812.06 | SB Unity | Joint Log, Capt Rojac (CO) & Cmdr Trzetrzelewska (XO)

"Bren Ohmsford" <ohmsford83@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

OOC: Was meant to go in earlier this week, sorry for the delay!

= Crew Quarters =

It took Natalia a few minutes to find Rojac's temporary quarters. The

starbase wasn't as large as Bragg, but it was still partly under
construction and some of the computer's directions were a little
inaccurate, leading her to end up first at the Infirmary instead of
Rojac's room.

She pressed the chime and waited for Rojac to call for her to enter.

When the door opened she stepped inside and smiled at the face of her
CO. Although she'd been back to Unity during the mission on the
Rapier, she only once got off the ship and didn't have time to see
Rojac. He still looked exactly the same, if a little beardier. The
four pips on his collar also made a slight change, making him somewhat
older, if only because of the high rank.

"Commander." Rojac nodded from behind a mug of black coffee and a
desk. HE motioned to an open seat in front of him.
"It's good to see you again," Natalia said as she sat down in the
chair. "I'm sorry I'm late. The computer gave me wrong directions and
I ended up at the Infirmary. Commander Summers helped me out."

"Yes." Rojac agreed. "I didn't hink the arboretum was the tactical
labs last month either. Hopefully Engineering have that straightened
out soon." He turned to the replicator and pulled out another cup,
which he slid over to Natalia. "So how did command suit you, Natalia?
Did the mission go well?"

Natalia nodded her thanks as she took the cup. "I enjoyed it," she
replied. "The mission went very well. I expected that we might run
into some trouble, but everything went according to plan."

"Excellent." Rojac replied. "The network will be invaluable in our
defense strategies. Lets hope we can maintain it." He took a sip,
relishing the bitter flavor for a moment. "So, do you think you can
revert back to second in command? The Chimera should be arriving this
time tomorrow."

She smiled and looked at him. "Of course. I'm very eager to see the
new ship. I've heard
she has some interesting features onboard."

"Benefits of recieving an R&D ship, I suppose." Rojac replied before
taking another sip of the dark and warm liquid. After a sigh, he
placed the cup back onto the small desk to get down to business.

"I have a feeling I have a lot of reading do," she said, thinking of
all the backlogged reports from former and new Chimera crew. "To catch
up with what the crew have been up to." Suddenly remembering what
Colonel PontBrillant told her, she looked serious. "PontBrillant told
me about Rick." The news had come as a great surprise to her. She
couldn't help but think about their time together on the HubBub and
how MaiKai and Rachel must be feeling.

"I have signed on a new Chief Engineer, one LtCmdr Curtis Scardona who
I know from my days on the Dark Horizon project." Rojac told her.
"He's a good engineer, and I think he'll do fine. I am however
requiring that Kroitzer be his deputy, with the sudden loss of
Commander Rodgers, I'm sure the team there will be craving some sort
of solidarity. Not to mention, Kroitzer is a hell of an engineer in
his own right."

"That he is," she laughed. "He's got some remarkable and creative
ideas. I'm sure he'll have a field with the new ship. Are you giving
him a promotion with the deputy position?"

"I am promoting him to full Lieutenant Junior Grade and removing the
acting status." Rojac replied to her question.

Natalia nodded as thought about some of the other positions that
needed to be filled. "If I'm correct there are still three department
head positions that are open; Tactical, Medical and Science? Any ideas
who you want to put in there?"

Rojac furrowed his brow and brought his hands close to his face. "All
the good tactical officers have been reassigned due to the war, and my
standards seem to be quite high. The cadets coming out of the academy
lately seem to... eager." He sighed. "They think of war as an
adventure." He paused for a moment, then shook himself quickly back to
reality. "If we need to, we can place Dexter at the tactical console
for a while. Lt Frankie Delano can run the department, but he's not
cleared for bridge duty. For science, there's a rather intriguing
efrosian officer named Lt Xindi Ra-Zerphimi. He seems a little
eccentric, but his records are solid."

"Sadly, I don't know when MaiKai will be able to return here for duty.
Or if she will." Rojac said. He looked up to Natalia.

She sat back in her and brushed her hair behind her left ear. "It's a
difficult position to be in, I'm not sure what MaiKai will do. My
guess is she would probably want to stay with Rachel. It would be hard
for Rachel to lose parents again."

"That it would be." Rojac responded, remembering how Rick had found
the little girl hidden aboard a freighter in the antigonis system that
had been raided by the Breen. The entire crew aboard had been sedated
by a noxious gas and was brutally slaughtered. Rachel was the only
survivor.

"Maybe Commander Summers can recommend a good doctor who can fill in
temporarily."

"Yes. Maybe." Rojac crossed his arms. "See to it, Commander. I'm sure
with her being a former Chimera CMO herself that she will know a good
officer for the job."

"Yes, sir," she replied with a nod.

"One more thing." he handed her a padd as she stood. "We launch on
Friday. This is the crew listing. I need you to put together the duty
roster; alpha, beta, delta and gamma."

"I'll get right on it," Natalia said as she took the padd.

"Thank you, Commander." Rojac replied. "Glad to have you back. Dismissed."

[USS Chimera] SD 240812.06 || SB 234: UNITY || Duty Log, Commo. Shane Guzman

"shane.guzman@mojwap.sk" <shane.guzman@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

====== Shane's office, SB 234: UNITY
======

Shane was sitting behind a dark metal desk, thinking about
how unfamiliar and unfriendly his office on SB 234 looks.
From all the offices he had used during his career in
Starfleet, he liked the Task Force CO's office on board
Chimera-B best. Large red wood desk, comfortable chairs and
models of various Starfleet ships as well as several
Ricewind pictures made the office to a comfortable place …
where he felt at ease.

His thoughts were interrupted as UNITY's Ops called him:

+Commodore, there is a high priority call over a secure
channel for you from Special Forces Command+

+TAPS+ Patch it through + Shane replied. Good news was
seldom announced over high priority message, so he expected
… bad news.

As the large wall screen in front of Shane went alive, the
familiar face of BGeneral Bretam Keylor – Shane's former
CO – appeared there. It was now about a year that both man
wore the same rank (as Commodore in Navy equals to Brigade
General @ Marines), but Bretam was still Shane's superior
officer. In fact, being Special Forces Chief of operations
… Bretam was number 2 in all SSF.

Bretam nodded towards Shane and said: "Nice to see you
again, Shane"

"The pleasure is mine Keylor" Shane replied. Since Shane
was appointed TF CO, the relation between the two men
changed somewhat and now they were on first name basis …
rather then calling each other by rank or Sir.

Bretam's face was unusually darkened as he spoke:
"Shane, I bring bad news to you. Sources from SSFI found
out that Tal'Shiar put you on their black list".

Nodding, Shane replied: "Well, its no news that the
Romulan would like to present my head on a silver plate to
their Preator" He shrugged: "and I can well understand
why …"

Shaking his head Bretam replied: "It's not that easy.
Tal'shiar's black list consists of around 50
individuals, each of certain power, but undoubtly of great
value to the Tal'shiar. Our sources within Tal'shiar say
that the average time between an individuals subscription to
the list and his or her decease … is just a few weeks."

Bretam waved with his hand and went on: "Please don't
think that there are folks like President Spock or the
Vulcan patriarch on the list … no … there are
individuals there that scored a hit against Tal'shiar …
a hit that was mighty enough to shake the agency. You … my
dear Commodore, were somewhat know to the Tal'shiar
already" Bretam was referring to several missions into
Romulan space – like the destruction of a Tal'shiar
outpost near the neutral zone, "but the recent failed
invasion into Federation space ruffled a LOT of Romulan
feathers. Of course, a lot of other officers did a lot in
this affair, but Tal'shiar blames mostly you … and your
decision to send the Quasar and McCoy into Erassian space.
Wouldn't it be the battle of Charos and your relation to
General Ivanov, there would be no Federation/Erassian
alliance."

Shane nodded: "I understand and though I am not happy
about that, I do not see much more what I could do to be
safer then I am here and now."

"That might be so, Shane, but the vendetta … extends to
your family as well" Bretam said, "making Rangi and
Martin to prime targets. Maybe you can protect yourself at
most time, but can you do the same for them?"

This statement hit Shane at a weak spot. He already doubted
his decision that Martin will stay with him and Rangi on
board the UNITY. After all … UNITY was in a war zone and
danger lurked everywhere.

"What shall I do?" Shane asked in a bit desperate tone.

Bretam shrugged: "It's up to you to decide. I just
wanted to warn you … but if you seek my counsel … send
your son away from the station … somewhere safe … or at
least far away from SB 234"

This time Shane shrugged: "How shall I do that? What place
is safe? And still … what shall I do with Rangi, I just
can't send her away ... unless …" There was a plan
forming in Shane's head. A plan that was dormant for a few
days already.

He closed his eyes and even Bretam could see that a battle
of emotions was fought inside the heart of the younger man.
Shane opened his eyes and the sights was somewhat changed
… and a strange light could be see in his eyes.

"Keylor, then I have a friendly request for you. I think I
have a way how to keep Martin safe, but I need you to take
care of Rangi. She would not leave Martin alone with me and
even less where I intend to send him, but she will follow
orders. I'd like to ask you to transfer her to the Chimera
… as CMO … immediately. The Chim will depart in 5 hours
and I know that they do not have an CMO for the time being.
I could sign that transfer by myself … I know … but
Rangi would not forgive me … so I need you .. or better
General Kira to sign that transfer. I know that Captain
Rojac will be happy about having Rangi as CMO and I will be
happy that she is more safe on the Chimera then here. Could
you do this for me? Please !?"

Bretam remained silent for a moment … but then nodded.
"Consider it done, Shane".

A sigh of relief escaped from Shane's lips. "Thank you
Keylor. Thank you very much"

Stephen Jacobs leaned to one side so that his own reflection
didnt stare back at him.
The fish inside the tank swam graciously past and he took a
few moments to appreciate their beauty before straightening
up and turning to the replicator.

He crossed the spacious room, deciding on his choice for
lunch and ordered a platter of Lappi and Stilton cheese but
specified crusty bread, well buttered and a glass of water
at room temperature.
He waited patiently for the meal to materialise then carried
it to his desk and placed it carefully on the left side. The
dull red leather chair creaked as he took his seat and
reached to pull the loaded tray nearer.

He lifted a slice of bread and bit into it causing flakes of
crust to fall back to the plate as he savoured the taste of
the butter. His eyes came to rest on a solitary padd and he
smiled to himself as he swallowed the bread.

{Right on time} he thought, reaching for a slice of cheese.{
A day earlier than asked for...as expected.}

He had read the report soon after it had arrived but had not
paid it further attention.
He had visited Bluethistle on the day the Lieutenant had
been admitted and on every alternate day since. He often sat
and talked to Ignatious and they had developed a deepening
friendship of sorts.

Stephen had heard about the horsemen and had agreed with
Ignatious that seeing them must be a very scary experience.
He also knew that Ignatious' brother kept horses but that
unlike his brother who was an accomplished rider, Ignatious
had a fear of the creatures.

Stephen enjoyed his cheese, looking now towards the fishtank
but thinking over the Lieutenants case.
Lunch over, Stephen made a decision and sent a single word
memo to Mnemosyme.

It said simply 'Equine'

She would probably make the connection on the next visit, he
told himself, for she seemed sharp enough and sighing, he
stood up from his place, returned the empty platter to the
replicator and checking the time, headed for the door.
He would tell Ignatious that the young lady who had visited
him yesterday, would like to come again and this time would
like to talk about horses.

Tommy entered the new office and looked around. He was impressed with the layout, even if it was smaller than the previous ship's offices. He had also earlier looked at the brig and was not so impressed. Being smaller, he was worried about using it during the war, especially if they took POWs.

Tommy went to his desk and started typing his report:

I have completed preliminary background checks on the crew and have made several discoveries. There is two crewmembers in medical whose records appear to have been slightly altered. I have sent a datapadd to the CMO's office with this information.

I have also arrested Spc James Santino and Spc William Perry of the engineering department. I did so after recieving a report of said individuals being found uncounsious on Earth. Since it is not possible to be two places at once, It was obvious that action needed to be taken.

=/\= Starbase 234 UNITY – Medbay =/\=

Gustav was heading to Unity's Medbay facility clutching a PADD telling
him to report at once for a scheduled physical exam, he had been lucky
enough to get away with not having one since he arrived on the Chimera
– B, he had been ordered to the starbase's facilities because the new
Chimera was still under staffed.

Stepping through the Medbay doors he handed the PADD to a passing
nurse who looked at it and pointed him in the right direction.

Seeing someone behind a desk working Gustav cleared his throat to get
her attention.

"Yes?" the woman asked, looking up at him. " You have a cough?"

"Umm no….I'm here for a physical exam" Gustav said to the med technician.

"Well why didn't you say so?" she asked. "You're in the wrong
place..you want S4..this is S5....round there and second on the
right." She returned to her attention to her work, dismissing him by
the action.

Gustav followed the tech's advice and ended up in a waiting room, he
took a seat and started reading some news casts that were sitting on a
small table in the middle of the room, only looking up when he heard
someone enter.

"Lieutenant Kroitzer?" Rangi enquired from the doorway and gave a
welcoming smile" Please come this way." She said and stepped back into
the examination room, waiting for him to follow her.

"Aye Ma'am" Gustav said following the Commander.

Recognising her from his first away mission he asked "Hows the foot Ma'am".

" Fine now thankyou." Rangi replied, recalling the incident he
referred to when he had dropped a heavy weight onto her foot. " No
permanent damage." she said but her expression
told him she was joking. "Please take a seat on there." she said,
indicating the bio bed as she picked up a med padd.

"Yes Ma'am "Gustav said taking a seat on the bio bed.

"How is Martin doing? " he asked Rangi.

"I played tag with him, Mimi and Rachel on the planet after the crash"
Gustav explained after seeing a quizzical look on Rangi's face.

"Ahh..I see. Thankyou, he's very well...settling into regular school
classes now and enjoying them. So...are you suffering from any aches
or pains? Have you noticed any
problems with your hearing or sight? Is there anything at all that is
now or has since our last medical check, given rise for concern?"

She had accessed his medical notes as she reeled off the standard
questions but looked at him as she ended them.

"Nothing really, just the same old pain I get occasionally in my left
shoulder…. but that's always been there" he said not expecting any
treatment for it.

Gustav wondered how to word his next question but he couldn't think of
anyway to say it without it sounding to clinical, so he just went
ahead and asked "and hows Rick doing…. err I mean Commander Rodgers".

Rangi said: " Just lie back please, make yourself comfortable." and as
he did so, she looked up at the overbed display that settled into a
steady readout. She added notes to the medpadd but obviously nothing
of great importance for it only took a few seconds. She took up a
medtricorder, adjusted a setting and hovered it above his shoulder,
looked at the result, considered them for a moment then met his gaze.
" He's no longer on the base." she said, wondering what rumour he had
heard. " Can you please raise your left hand and touch my fingers?"
she asked holding out her arm at a good height above him.

Gustav raised his left arm touching Rangi's fingers "I heard that he
had been attacked and he was in a critical condition…. But I didn't
know he had been moved off base" he said a little surprised that they
moved him so quickly.

"This wasn't the best place for him." she replied, adding something
else to the medpadd. She took the medtricorder again and did another
hover. " Could you sit up please?" she asked. " His condition needs
specialist attention." she said moving to the other side of the
biobed. He heard the humm of the tricorder. "... so he'll be away for
quite some time."

Sitting up Gustav said "oh… I see".

Turning the tricorder off, Rangi rounded the biobed again returning to
face him. " He was indeed attacked." she said".... and following that,
he's experienced alot of problems with his memory."

It was of course true. Rick was suffering problems with his memory in
that he no longer had one but the circumstances surrounding the attack
were classified. So she stuck to the truth, understanding that Gustav
wanted to know what had happened to the former CEO and knowing too
that he would probably pass the information on to other engineers.

Knowing that Rangi wasn't telling him everything or couldn't tell him
everything Gustav didn't press the issue anymore instead turning the
subject back to the physical.

"So what's the prognosis doc, will I live to fix a replicator again?"
he said jokingly.

She laughed. " Only if you can improve the quality of the coffee." she
responded." Apparantly it could be used for oiling a machine?" She set
the medpadd aside and spoke to him again as he got to his feet. " I'd
like you to go along to physio." She said, looking up at his six foot
height. " I'll send a report to Doctor Ross. He will be interested in
your shoulder I'm sure and has a nice little gadget to try out." She
smiled at him. " Thats all Lieutenant and congratulations on your
promotion."

"I wouldn't use it to oil the machinery Ma'am, and thank you I'll go
see Dr Ross as soon as I can" Gustav responded with a smile.

Rangi returned the smile and followed him to the door. As he strode
off across the waiting area she called " Ensign Launsteon please." and
stood back as the new patient approached, ushering her into the room
and saying " Please take a seat on there....."

It had been two days since Captain Rojac told Gustav that the new CEO
of the chimera had been assigned when he received an order to report
to Lt Commander Scardona's office on the new Chimera, he had expected
this meeting a bit sooner but Gustav figured his boss wanted to settle
in.

As Gustav came up to the office door he hit the chime button on the
panel next to it.

Scardona was reviewing the latest warp field tests for the new engines
when the chime buzzed through his ears. He checked his chronometer,
surprised to see how fast time had flown by. He pressed a button near
his desk, and then stood up, strolling over to the door of the office.

"Enter, Lieutenant."

The door swooshed open and his new deputy walked in. But before he
could really do anything, Curtis scooted right past him, through the
door of the office and out into Main Engineering. He gestured for the
younger man to follow.

"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Kroitzer. I've heard good things."

Wondering where the commander was going Gustav followed "Really, thank
you Sir" Gustav said.

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Sir" Kroitzer said trying to keep
up with the senior officer.

Curtis nodded, continuing on a brisk pace through Main Engineering.
When he reached the warp core, he stopped, and leaned on one of the
railings. He waited a few seconds for Kroitzer to reach him and then
stood up a little straighter.

"This ship has over 200 engineers on board, one of the larger, if not
the largest, departments. My job will be to serve as a liaison between
Engineering and the Senior Staff. You, however, will be my 'man on the
ground', so to speak. You'll have a lot of responsibility. Will you be
able to handle it?"

Gustav looked at his new boss and said, "I can but try Sir".

"I'll give you the best I can just like I did with…" Gustav stopped
himself finishing the sentence and then looked down at the metal
grating that was the floor.

Curtis understood the look in the other man's eye. He had lost a ship,
and it haunted him. Curtis could relate. He had lost 12 men when the
Saratoga was destroyed, and it took him a long time to get over it. He
looked Kroitzer right in the eye.

"Don't try, Lieutenant. Trying is overrated. You DO. That's my only
rule. No cop-outs. You won't have time to second-guess yourself. If
you can do that, then you'll be a fine Engineer."

"OK Sir, will do" Gustav said trying not to look back at what had
happened in the not so distant past.

The chief nodded, and proceeded to hand his deputy a series of PADD's.

"Well, best we get to work, isn't it? Run a level 2 diagnostic on the
warp core, to see how the warp field re-calibrations are holding up."

Taking the PADD's from Curtis Gustav said "Aye sir" he then started on
the diagnostic.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.04 Duty Log 2ndLt, Nyx

=/\= SB 234 - Unity - 2ndLt. Nyx Office =/\=
It wasn't a large office but at least it wasn't as plain as the one that had temporarily been assigned to that one commander.  The walls were a light shade of green and the picture of a unicorn that hung on the one wall was mystical as well as beautiful.  The other wall held a small view port.  A love seat sized couch sat against the wall under the unicorn picture and a chair with stand was over by the view port.  Fortunately the chair on the other side of her desk, slide easily over to join the other by the view port.  Her desk was sort of cradled in one of the corners from the door.

She looked at the padd where she had placed her notes on Lt. Ignasious Bluethistle.  He held a tactical position, but Nym wasn't so sure about him returning to work.  Sure he had recovered form is injuries which consisted of a broken leg and burns on 30% of his body, but Iggy had yet to pass a psychological evaluation. She reread her notes even though she didn't need to.

Subject:  Lieutenant Ignasious Bluethistle
Status:  Unfit for Duty

Lt. Bluethistle has made great physical recoveries.  However, he jumps at ordinary sounds and still insists that Romulans riding black steeds come to him at night through the smoke.  Medications that may have been attributing to his delusions have been discontinued but still he insists that "they come for him".  He isn't exactly specific about who comes for him but insists that the black steed riding Romulans are only their centuries.  Through observations noted on his charts by other and 6 hours of my own, the lieutenant does have periods were he is very lucid and in the present, but there are gaps in his recent memories that he himself explains away by saying "they were probing me then".

It is my opinion that it would not only be dangerous for Mr. Bluethistle to return to duty for himself but for everyone concerned.  Continued drug tests should be given to monitor the use of self medication.  Furthermore, to continue to allow Ignasious Bluethistle to walk around left to his own devices is practically asking for some kind of a disaster.

Mnemosyme signed the report, added her notes and required write ups and sent it to Dr. Jacobs a day before it was due.

*** Chief Counselor's office * SB Unity ***

Stephen Jacobs settled back in his chair fingers steepled in
front of him and looked towards the door. He expected the
chime to sound at any moment for the appointment was
scheduled for 10.00 and it was almost that time already. He
wasn't disappointed and called " Come in please." as the
sound of the chime died away.

Mnemosyme entered upon hearing the request after the chime.
She walked up to the desk and with no expression or even a
sense of focus in her eyes asked, "You wanted to see me,
Sir?"

"Of course," Stephen replied, not altering his position at
all. "Sit down won't you?" he added and waited for her to do
so., watching her all the time but with a not unfriendly
expression on his face. "Anyone new to my department needs
to meet her superior." he said " Does that surprise you?"

Mnemosyme took a seat. "No, and I'm not exactly new. You
didn't have room in your schedule for me 7 months ago, Sir,"
she answered in a matter-of-fact tone. She only stated
facts and shortly after she had arrived on the base all hell
had seem to break out. Her stare was steady and her manner
formal like one expects from a marine.

Stephen smiled. " I know how long you've been here." he said
and leaning back in his leather chair folded his hands, with
fingers interlinked, across his stomach, elbows resting on
the chair arms. " What progress have you made in settling in
here?" he asked.

"My progress has been satisfactory." With the exception
that she had no idea what her superior was going to ask, one
might have thought that she would have practiced the answers
over and over again to deliver them so emotionlessly.

"Is 'satisfactory' good enough for you?" Stephen asked.

"Satisfactory is the reality... it will do." Outstanding is
what she always strived for, but when working with other
satisfactory is usually what you ended up with. "It was
good of them to save some of your fish," she commented
letting Dr. Jacobs know that she had been to his office
before if for nothing else than to check in.

"They're very resilient species." he said, not looking
towards the tank." Satisfactory wouldn't do for them..its
survival of the fittest in their world...one could say they
strive for perfection."

"To strive and be rewarded with perfection are two different
things and if one can't adapt well then they often die."

"Define the difference," he said.

"Why.. can you not think of any differences for yourself?"

"You choose not to state any?" he countered.

"I don't choose to think for you," she stated.

"You do not answer the question," he said calmly then leaned
forward and pushed a padd across the desk between them.
"This is a new case for you. I expect an in depth appraisal
report on my desk by Thursday morning"

"Yes, sir." She left the padd where it sat waiting for her
dismissal. "And you can do something perfectly, but still
fail because of others."

"Then perfection wasn't achieved. " he answered. "That's
all." He met her eye with a level gaze which told her
absolutely nothing of what he was thinking, whether he had
been impressed or intrigued by her answers, whether he had
confidence in her or doubt.

She stood quickly and deftly removed the pad with her as she
went. The movement was smooth, quick and confident.

Stephen paid no attention to her as she walked towards the
door, nor yet when he heard it open and close behind her.
He was adding notes to a padd of his own, spending moments
of concentration filling in a report on Mnemosyme Nyx.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.04 Joint Log Capt. Rojac & Cmdr. Wellington

=/\= SB 234 - Unity - Temporary Quarters =/\=

Athena looked around the temporary quarters.  Every surface was as
bare as when it had been assigned to her.  Two small bags that
contained her new clothes and a few personal items that she had
replaced, waited by the door.  She rifled through all the drawers and
found that she had forgotten nothing.  She gave the closet a once over
as well as she pulled the garment bag that held the wedding dress from
it.  She hadn't left anything behind there either.

Laying the garment bag on the bed, she unzipped it.  She ran her
fingers over the edge of the dress, {Maybe... I'll get to wear it....
eventually.}  Quickly zipping the bag back up, she gathered the dress
and the rest of her things by the door and head for the new ship.....
the Chimera-C.

=/\= Docking Pylon C =/\=
{Interesting anomaly... pylon C and Chimera C} she thought as she
walked up to the security check point that one had to do to even place
a pinkie toe on the ship.  A weary looking Lieutenant looked up
saying, "Commander, may I help you?"

"Commander Wellington requesting authorization to board the
Chimera-C," she responded almost as if on auto-pilot.  {Obviously this
is becoming a habit and not a good one.}

The marine nodded and tapped a few keys and waited.  His eyes popped
open at the information on the screen.  "First name Athena," he asked.

"Yes."   Her eyes looked up finding the pattern of the ceiling as she
waited for her clearance.

A few more tapping sounds.  "Umm... Commander..." Athena's icy stare
levelly met the marine's as she raised an eyebrow in question  to the
tone that was being used.  "You are denied access," he paused and took
a deep breath before adding, "And it says you are to be searched."

"What?"

"Your access is denied and you are to be searched ... strip searched
actually," he said with more confidence than before.

"I decline the search and I suggest you call the Captain," Athena responded.

"I'm sorry Commander," the marine started as he walked toward Athena.

Instinctively her right fist came out and Met the marine's eyes before
she tapped her combadge.

+taps+ "Captain Rojac to Commander Wellington.  I have a problem."

[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chiemra-C]

Rojac had busied himself reading up on the incoming departmental
reports; and found himself interrupted in the middle of an article
describing the current state of the matter reclamation faculties
aboard.

"Rojac here." looking up to the ceiling as he replied. "I didn't know
you were aboard yet, commander."

+taps+ "I've been denied access."

"On whose orders is your authorization restricted?" Rojac queried over
her combadge.

+taps+  "I don't know but I refused to be stripped searched for
apparently no good reason."

"Hold on a minute while I sort this out, Athena." He said before
terminating the communication with a quick tap.

[Docking Pylon C - SB 234: UNITY]

Athena stared at the marine while he complied with the captain's request.  She tapped her foot as she feigned a relaxed posture.  She looked down at the outfit she was wearing wondering how much they could find concealed.  The form fitting spaghetti strapped tank top and the black slacks that hugged her figure left little to no hiding spots.  "Just what do you expect to find on me," she finally asked turning in a slow circle.

[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-B]

"Computer," Rojac queried, "display file on Commander Athena
Wellington." The computer beeped in acknowledgement, and quickly a file
appeared on Rojac's desktop. He double tapped it's image, and pulled
it closer to himself.

From this vantage point Rojac could see no outstanding reasons why her
access to the ship should be restricted. The only mark recently was her
jaunt over to Charos three with Captain Xerxes, but Roajc had already
dismissed that case.

"Computer, does Commander Wellington currently have access to the Chimera?"

[Negative.] The stoic, feminine voice replied.

"Override Rojac-Gamma-two-four. Allow Commander Athena Wellington,
Chief Counselor, access to the ship and facilities appropriate to her
rank and position." Rojac heard the soft feedback tone from the ship
before he tapped his combadge once more.

[Docking Pylon C - SB 234: UNITY]

+Rojac to Wellington. The situation has been resolved. You may board
at your leisure.+

+taps+  "Thank you and the problem was?"

+I'm not quite sure, but it has be remedied. At least for the time
being. Rojac out.+

+taps+  "Understood."

Athena looked back at the marine who never had a chance to answer her earlier question.  He motioned to the ship as she picked up her bags.

[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]

"Rojac to Operations." He said over the comm.

+Operations here, Captain.+ Came the current operation bridge officer's reply.

"Commander Wellington had problems boarding the ship a moment ago.
Please have Lieutenant Reese look into the situation for me. I think
there may be some malfunction in the computer's security protocols."

+Aye sir. I will relay the message. Is there anything else?+

"Not yet. Rojac out." Rojac replied before ending the chat. He took in
a nice, deep breath before returning to his reading.

[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.3 Personal Log LtJg. Kroitzer

=/\= USS Chimera - C - Mimi's and Gustav's Quarters =/\=

After his meeting with Rojac, Gustav was busy in Mimi's and his new
quarters trying to get everything right for when Mimi first sees them,
they were bigger than normal quarters as they were to accommodate at
least two.

He was busy placing the last couple of cushions on the sofa {I'm not
sure why I'm bothering with this Mimi will just move this when she
gets here} he thought while smiling to himself, Gustav jumped a little
when the door chimed but not to much.

"Enter" he called while straitening his tunic.

Mimi rushed in, "You wanted to see me?"  She'd been trying to finish
up a couple of last minute evaluations and help Commander Wellington
to get the department ready.  She didn't even look around; just gave a
bright smile at seeing Gustav.

"Just needed you for a few things, namely to see if you liked the new
quarters, I've just been given a full promotion and if you wanted to
see an old movie in the holodeck with me later" Gustav said smiling
back at Mimi.

Finally taking her eyes off the one thing she had been looking at; she
turned a slow circle taking in the room in which she was standing.
"This ... is ours?   Its ..... so big."

"Yup it's ours and it's not as big as some but it is fairly
large…..take a look around" Gustav said happy she was pleased.

Grabbing his hand as she walked by to enter the adjoining room, she
asked, "Since when is interior design part of the engineering
curriculum?"

"It isn't normally but I wanted it ready for when we moved in….even
though I know you'll move things around" he said in almost a joking
manner.

She dropped his hand and did another slow circle taking in the bedroom
this time.

"So what do you think so far" Gustav asked genuinely wanting to know
what she thought of his efforts.

Her circle ended with her facing him and she stood up on her toes
pressing a kiss against his lips and then said, "Its perfect."

After kissing her back Gustav asked "and about the holodeck?"

"We could do that ...What movie were you thinking about," she asked
and continued, "What about dinner?"

"I was going to let you choose….I wanted to go out for a nice meal to
celebrate my promotion but I've just so much on my plate at the moment
I just wouldn't be able to manage it".

Mimi walked toward the bed thinking to herself.  She decided to test
the mattress as she responded, "I see," and jumped; bouncing a bit on
the new bed.  "Comfy.."

Gustav raised an eyebrow at Mimi and while chuckling a little asked
"what are you doing".

"Just testing..."

Sitting down next to Mimi he looked into her eyes and stroked her hair
while saying "you know we don't need to go out, we could just stay in
tonight and have an intimate meal here".

She bounced up on her knees, "Could we?"  Excitement glowed in her
eyes as the last idea appealed more and more to her.

"Of course" Gustav said seeing her excitement.

With his agreement; she ended up in his arms and gave him a kiss.
However, the sudden movement sent them off the edge of the bed and
onto the floor.

"Ouch" Gustav said rubbing the back of his head after coming off the
bed, he tried to make sure he was under Mimi to stop his weight
hurting her when they hit the floor.

"Warn me the next time you do that please" he said smiling.

"I'll try," she said kissing him again.

Gustav kissed Mimi back then got himself up from the floor saying
"I'll go and get some good wine from the station, some nice food and
some candles, I'll be back in an hour or so ok".

Mimi smiled and nodded her agreement as the gears in her head began to spin.

[USS Chimera] SD:240812.03 Joint Duty Log, Capt Cropa Rojac & Lt JG Gustav Kroitzer

"Paul Howorth" <palsh963@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

[Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Chimera-C]

Crates were stacked up along the dark wall beside the door. Rojac had
the walls panelled in the old ship style. Below waist level, the walls
were lined with a dark-stained cedar, the above a tone of mid-value
beige. It gave the room a natural, serene and elegant quality,
accented by the large brown leather couch looking out upon the large
view port, and the great wooden desk with the embedded LCARs touch
screen workspace on the surface.

Ideally, from his desktop in his office, Rojac could bring up any
program on the ship and monitor any systems progress. If push came to
shove, he could even route different command consoles to that location
and run operations from there. Holo-projectors beneath the surface
could display 3-D presentations for personal briefing or
presentations. It was all rather user-friendly. R&D had really outdone
themselves.

But with all the state-of-the-art technology in the room, the first
one Rojac made use of was the replicator. He ordered a hot chai tea,
with extra spice and pulled it from the cubby as the chime sounded.

Gustav had been busy calibrating and tinkering with various things in
engineering when he was called to the Captains ready room for reasons
he did not know but he figured that it would be about the new ship.

As he approached the door Gustav hit a button on the panel at the side
of the door.

"Come in, Mr. Kroitzer." Rojac greeted the young engineer. "Please
have a seat. Would you like a beverage?"

"A cup of strong English tea with milk and two sugars please Sir"
Gustav replied while taking the seat the Captain pointed to.

Rojac removed the order from the replicator once the white noise
subsided. He placed the cup on the shiny surface and slid it across a
schematic of the new ships warpdrive toward Kroitzer. "I must say,
LtCmdr Scardona and I were quite impressed with the algorithms and
modifications used on the warp drive during the flight test."

"Thank you sir, but it wasn't my ideas, they happened to be things
that two of my team were working on and were still in development at
the time" Gustav said not wanting to take the credit for others work.

"Whether you had help or not is beside the point, Lieutenant." Rojac
replied. "Being an officer is not about having all the ideas. Being an
officer requires that you know where to find them, be they from your
colleagues or from your own faculties. You had a good team, and you
gleaned the knowledge from them. That makes you a good officer."

Not being used to this level of praise Gustav started to turn red and
could only say "thank you sir" again.

"Because of your work, I deem it necessary to grant you the rank of
full Lieutenant Junior Grade, and am removing the acting status
imposed by the war." Rojac said. "You are being retained in your
position as Deputy Chief Engineer. Since you will be more familiar
with the crew than LtCmdr Scardona will be, it will be up to you to
make sure things run smoothly while he transitions."

Surprised from the sudden promotion Gustav was a little speech less
"Thank you sir…….I'll help LtCmdr Scardona anyway possible".

Rojac nodded, and allowed a small, sly grin to escape beneath his
beard. "I know you will, Lieutenant. Computer, recognize the immediate
promotion of Acting Lieutenant Junior Grade Gustav Kroitzer to the
rank to full Lieutenant Junior Grade with all the rights and
privileges granted therein."

[Gustav Kroitzer has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior
Grade at 1228.]

Rojac stood and shook the officer's hand. "Is there anything else, Lieutenant?"

"No sir" Gustav said grinning from ear to ear.

[USS Chimera] SD 240812.03 | SB Unity | Cmdr Summers (1TF Med) & Cmdr Trzetrzelewska (XO)

"Bren Ohmsford" <ohmsford83@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

*** Infirmary Section 3 * SB Unity ***

"....and yes, I 'will' be glad of a few hours off" Rangi agreed as she
and T'Vel crossed the main reception area on their way off duty.

Natalia was looking for Rojac's office but she had gotten hopelessly
lost in the process. Turning a corner she found herself in front of
two large doors with the Starfleet Medical symbol on them which led
into the brand new Infirmary. She was about to turn around
when the doors opened and Commander Summers exited with Lieutenant T'Vel in tow.

It was obvious that the woman was lost but Rangi and T'Vel both
recognised Chimeras XO as she looked in their direction.

"Miss Trzetrzelewska." Rangi said in welcoming tone." What brings you here?"

"It's good to see you again, Commander," Natalia smiled at the Medical
Advisor and Unity's CMO. "You too, Lieutenant."

"Please excuse me," T'Vel said with a nod and headed back into the Infirmary.

"I'm afraid I got lost," Natalia frowned looking down the corridor. "I
was looking for Commander... I mean Captain Rojac's office and the
computer led me here."

"Did it?" Rangi replied. She frowned too then smiled. " Oh I
understand...we have a Doctor Rhojak here...same
pronunciation..different spelling. I dont think Captain Rojac has been
assigned an office."

"Oh," Natalia said, suddenly understanding. "That would explain it. I
just asked the computer for 'Rojac's office'. I should have been more
specific."

"It's an easy mistake to make." Rangi said.

Now that she was speaking to Rangi, Natalia decided to ask her a
question that had been bothering her for a while. "Commander, I was
wondering if I could ask you about the status of a patient? He's not
technically in the Task Force anymore, but last I heard he was still
being treated in an SSF facility."

"Of course." Rangi replied, a little intrigued by Natalia's rather
self conscious attitude.
"Which patient do you want to enquire about?" she asked.

"Lieutenant Lakqost," Natalia said, speaking a little softer.

"Right...errr...he's not on the base but I can find out how's he
doing.Please come with me."
She turned back to the wide Main Doors, indicating that Natalia might
like to follow her.

Natalia nodded and followed Rangi. She had really wanted to find out
sooner what had happened to the Chimera's former security officer, but
being away and under comms restrictions didn't help much. Besides,
she'd had to work up the courage first to ask. Exactly why she was so
self-conscious about asking for his whereabouts still eluded her.

Rangi led the way back into the infirmary, turned left along the first
corridor, aknowledged people she passed and turning to Natalia said :
"It's just along here..quite a maze isnt it?" and smiled as they
turned yet another corner eventually arriving at a door which bore
Rangi's name on a plaque along with her rank and position.

"Come in," she said " Take a seat."

Rangi skirted the desk, sat down on her chair and scooted it forward.
She began to tap away on the console and in a few moments glanced up
at Natalia and said."

"Yes...I thought so. He was transferred from Bragg a little under
three weeks ago.he's now at Cranfield Centre ....thats on Earth.." she
added seeing a moment of confusion pass Natalia's face.

Cranfield Centre? That either meant he hadn't fully recovered or still
required treatment, at least that's what she thought but she had no
idea what exactly Cranfield Centre was. "What is Cranfield Centre
exactly?"

"It's a treatment centre for patients such as Lieutenant Lakqost."
Rangi replied.
"..those who have severe neurological damage." She saw the worried
expression on Natalias face intensify. "Although he's recovered well
from his other injuries..his fractured bones and the liver damage...he
remains in a coma."

"I see," Natalia replied, sighing at the news. She'd hoped that his
condition would have improved by now, but there was no change. "Is
there any hope that he'll improve?"

"Yes." Rangi said sounding certain but it was tempered by her
addition. "...there's always hope...but remember, it often takes a
long time..months maybe, before we see much
change at all."

"I understand," she replied, nodding her head slightly. "Thank you."

"I'll request weekly updates on him and keep you informed if you
like." Rangi suggested, thinking that Natalia had more than a friendly
interest in the Lieutenants well being.

"I'd appreciate that," Natalia smiled. "Thanks again for the trouble."

"It's no trouble." Rangi replied, leaning back from the console and
giving Natalia a reassuring smile. "It's never a problem to keep
friends informed."
