[USS Chimera] SD: 240911.14 Joint Personal Log Cpt.Trent Rodgers & Lt.MaiKai Rodgers

=Pediatrics Department=
=Starbase UNITY=

Trent had just finished up his meeting with Shane and Rojac when MaiKai asked to speak with him. He had a feeling he knew what, of whom it was about. He walked into pediatrics and saw Mai with one of her young patients. He stood silent for a moment, wiaitng for Mai to finish.

"Now here's a sucker.  Next time we won't try being a monkey when mom's preoccupied." she patted the little youngster on his head before he leapt off the biobed into his mother's arms to leave.  MaiKai turned and noticed her brother-in-law. "Trent, could I see you in my office?" she walked in the direction of her office without waiting for Trent's response.

"What can I help you with?" Trent asked.

She sat in her big office chair behind her desk.  The baby was really moving today.  "Have you heard from Rick?" she asked trying not to sound overly concerned.

"No, I haven't heard anything from him in the past three days," Trent replied. "With the work that he's doing, that's expected."

"Well, have you heard how long he'll be gone or any indication on what he's doing?" she really was not feeling her best at the moment.  It's like the baby wanted to see if it could kick through for some kind of record.

"Like I said before, I have no idea what he's working on. If I did, I'm sure you understand I couldn't tell you."

MaiKai tried to get up.  She wanted some water despeartely.  Her back was bothering her and decided to stay in her seat.  She was aware that a pained look was starting to creep up her face.

"Are you OK?" Trent asked.

"Yeah, I'm just really thirsty," Mai clamped a hand to her forehead.  This child wasn't suppose to come for at least another month.  Mai hoped she wasn't having any complications.

"Let me get you some water," Trent said as he walked over to the replicator. He had seen this before when Sarah was pregnant. He thought he had a pretty good grasp on what to do. He handed Mai a glass of water.

Mai drank the water which was handed.  She tried not to drink it too fast, but she was really thirsty.  She thought like she was going to be sick.  The baby was apparently running a marathon in place.

"I'm going to call sickbay," Trent said.

MaiKai nodded as she took another gulp of water.

Trent was hoping that she wasn't about to give birth. He thought that Rick told him that she was still a few weeks off. But Sarah gave birth to Annie three weeks early, so Trent knew that anything was possible.

"Captain Rodgers to sickbay."

There was no response. After a couple of tries, Trent realized that the comm system must be down. He then remembered that engineering was scheduled to perform maintenance on the comm system. He considered overriding it, but that was only for extreme emergencies.

"Sickbay isn't that far. If I help you, can you walk it?" Trent asked.

"Yes, but I need help up first," Mai usually never asked for help of anyone that often, but this was her first child and she was unaware of what should be going on.

Trent slowly, gently helped Mai to her feet, letting her take her time. He then allowed his sister-in-law to use him for leverage as they slowly walked out of her office. By then, a couple of Mai's pediatric nurses came over. They offered Mai a wheelcheer, which she and Trent gladly accepted. A few minutes later, Trent rolled Mai into sickbay with one of Mai's nurses in tow.

MaiKai was just thinking how Rick better have a good explanation when he gets back. A real good explanation.

[USS Chimera] SD 240911.15 | Joint Log | Richard Sharpe & Chloe Merau

=/\= Starbase Unity =/\=

Richard was sat up on the side of the bed, tying the laces of his boots up as he readied himself to be discharged. He’d been released on light duties for the next two weeks, which suited him just fine, since everyone had been given a two week furlough, courtesy of Task Force Command.

At this moment in time, nothing could bother him. He was alive, he was free of those evil, blood sucking monsters called Doctors, and in a few days, he was going to be married… again.

Chloe herself had just arrived back on the Unity, the transport she had been on was one of the last to arrive. As soon as the transport docked, Chloe made her way to the starbase's sickbay. She had heard that Richard was in there, after being critically injured and she was slightly panicked trying to get to him to make sure he was alright.

Reaching the sickbay's doors, she rushed in looking around to see where Richard was.

Straightening out his BDU’s, Richard stood up, grabbed the PADD from the bed, and walked out towards the exit of the hospital.

Richard was walking out when Chloe was walking in. Her small body moved quick, her arms going around his neck. "Richard." Her voice was strained and worried.

Finding himself being attacked by a small blonde thing, that wrapped its arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight embrace, Richard deduced that either he was being hugged to death by an alien of some sort, or his fiancĂ©e was pleased to see him. Deciding it was the latter, he dropped his duffle bag, and wrapped his arms around his wife-to-be. “Chloe.” He said, as by reply, putting all his pent up affection into both the word and the hug.

"Your alright, god I've been so worried." She was still dressed in her uniform and looked slightly worn out, seeing that she had rushed to get here. "Why are you always getting yourself hurt?" Her arms were still wrapped around him tight, her soft face against his.

“Piss people off.” He grunted, by way of an answer.

"You don't piss me off, Richard, but you do make me damned scared sometimes." She said looking to him, her eyes full of tears of joy for seeing him again, and seeing that he was walking and alright.

“Damn, I need to try harder.” He said, smiling into her face, and kissing her nose softly. “Considering I was shot twice, what was it that nearly killed me? A stomach ulcer.” He huffed indignantly.

"It's because you make yourself so stressed out sometimes." Chloe said as she gave a smile at his kiss. "Come, let's go back to our quarters."

“Combat tends to be stressful.” Richard said, picking up his duffle and making his way out of the hospital with Chloe. “I could do with some R&R, I really could.”

"Lucky for you were on RnR. And I’m going to make sure that you relax some." She told him sternly as they walked. "Not to mention, I think you promised me something before we left for this mission. Shortly after I arrived here on the unity." She reminded him, razing an eyebrow.

“I cleaned the bathroom before I left!” He protested, smiling cheekily as he did.

"Richard." She said almost disapprovingly as they walked. "If you didn't get brain damage on the last mission, I might hit you hard enough to cause some." She said a bit playfully.

“Help! Spousal abuse!” He mock-shouted as they walked, laughing as they went.

"Im not your spouse, Richard." She said, her tone as if hinting at what she was going at.

“You will be in a day or two.” He said, grinning. “Once I sort out the specifics with Captain Rojac.”

"Finally." She said with a smile on her lips. "I think we've put this off long enough." She told him as they walked into their quarters.

“You just want to get pregnant.” Richard said, pretending to be indignant.

"No and yes." Chloe said, not taking offense to what he said. "I want to marry *you*." She told him sitting on the couch taking her shoes off. "If I just wanted to be pregnant, Im sure you know well enough I could do that with out you." Chloe was young and beautiful, she could of had anyone, but she wanted Richard.

“Don’t remind me.” He said, throwing his duffle on the bed. “I need a hot shower.” He griped, and made his way into the bathroom.

"Richard." her voice was soft, worried that what she had said upset him.

“You’re welcome to join me if you like!” He called out into the rest of the room.

His tone calmed her now. Standing up from the couch, she wasn't far behind him.

= Excalibur Bar, SB UNITY =

Jade was the first one to arrive at the bar after receiving a message
about some get together at this bar entering she looked around the
first person she spotted was Ian (NPC), "hey Ian glad to see you."
Jade said smiling as she walked up to him.

"Good to see you to ma'am." Ian said picking up a corona and handing
it to her, "I remember that you like these." Ian said smiling glad to
see his boss again.

"Thanks." Jade took the drink and took a sip, "so do you've any ideas
who sent the invitation?" Jade asked. But before Ian could answer some
more people walked into the bar.

"Hey Hey Folks! There's some serious over supply of alcohol in this
place. I think you guys need to do something about this. Think your
up to the task eh Chimera Wing?" Anya announced loudly upon walking
into the bar before turning around to address that to her 25 flight
crew and numerous personnel ostensibly under her command.

They answered with a resounding "AAAARRRRRUUUU!!!" to which Anya
responded with a grin. She had been teaching them bad habits and good
practice together. "Chimera Wing here is your mission!" Anya leveled
a pointed finger on an outstretched arm towards the bar. "Go forth
and get pissed!"

"AAAARRRRRUUUU!!!" Came the resounding response again.

"Well the pilots are here." Jade said grinning seeing S'hae walk in
(NPC), "welcome Gunny just in time." Jade said handing her a beer.
"I'll see you guys later gotta go and say hey to the Wing CO." Jade
said turning and heading over to where Anya was. "Anya!" Jade said
loudly hoping to get her attention.

Anya heard her name being called by a familiar voice and looked to see
who it was. "Jade! It's good to see you. I had heard you had been
released from internment in Unity sickbay but usually that means your
locked in quarters."

"Typical undisciplined rocket jockeys", Lieutenant Castillo said under
his breath from across the room, he found such barbaric displays
appalling especially considering it seemed to be condoned and even
encouraged by their superior officer. Stepping to the far side of the
bar the maid approached, 'Cranberry Juice', he said cutting her off
mid sentence. As she turned to fetch his drink he cocked his head to
the side once more to look at the rest of the crowd and had his
attention once again directed towards the pilots as one of them
knocked over a bottle. He sighed and shook his head.

"One Cranberry Juice", the bartender said from behind as she placed
the glass on the bar.
"Thank you miss", Castillo responded as he picked up the cup and took
a sip, deciding as he swallowed that he would now actually stay for
the entire party just so he could have the pleasure of tossing some of
the flyboys in the brig once they started acting up, which in his mind
they most certainly would start doing soon.

There was a commotion near the door and the room seemed to turn and
stare. The room dissolved into a tense silence as a rather peeved
looking Captain Rojac strode into the bar with a noticeable grimace
beneath his bearded face.

"What is going around here?" He said as he strode into the bar, his
hands clinched into fists at his side.

No one answered.

Rojac walked up to one of Anya's pilots, with an empty tumbler in his
hand. He dusted off the young man's shoulder and seemed to sigh in
disappointment. "There is simply not enough booze." He signaled to the
tender, "Rounds all around. Put it on the Chimera's tab."

Anya pushed through the crowd towards the Captain ignoring the roar of
approval. She pushed a cold bottle of beer into his hand whilst she
contented herself with a whisky sour. "We need to talk before I
leave. Depending on how well things do or don't work out there is the
possibility I may not be coming back."

[USS Chimera] SD240911.14 | Personal Log | Commander Mike Levison: 'Reflections on a Bad Day'

Charles Richards <d3ucalion@gmail.com> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

</\> USS Chimera NCC 96899-C - Crew Quarters </\>

Mike Levison let out a long, drawn-out sigh of relief as the doors to
his quarters hissed shut behind him. It had been a very long few days
and his old skills had been tested to the limit. Life aboard the
Chimera was certainly exciting but for the human getting towards his
forties, it was perhaps a little too exciting from time to time. He
had already shed his uniform jacket during his brief pitstop at the
mess for a quick bite to eat and he casually tossed it into a chair
before making his way over to the desk that took a substantial area of
his quarters.

"Computer, messages please," the Commander inquired as he sank into
the comfortable leather of the chair.

[One status report from Lieutenant Commander Kilbain. One message from
USS Chimera Quartermaster regarding stationary requisition #752123...]
the computer continued to reel off a seemingly endless list of
communications to which Levison squeezed his eyes shut and sighed
again.

"Never mind, Computer, I'll deal with them tomorrow," he said, rubbing
a hand across his throbbing temples, "Music, low volume. Classical."

As a gentle melody began to filter through the room, the Commander was
finally able to relax, his mind slowly beginning to empty of the
firing solutions and data he had been changing into actions in the
recent engagements. It had not been an easy mission in the slightest
for the Chimera and for Levison personally, it had been a baptism of
fire for Tactical skills he had not used for nearly five years.

The music began to swell just as the chime to his quarters blared.
With a grumble, Levison called out; "Computer, pause. Enter!"

The doors slid apart and Gregory Kilbain was revealed, a bottle of
amber liquid in one hand and two tumblers in the other, a wide grin
across his face. "Surprise!"

"Greg..." Mike began, but relented and gestured for him to enter and
have a seat, "That had better be what I think it is."

"Single malt," Kilbain smirked, seating himself in a chair with a view
out into the void.

"Very nice," Mike nodded appreciatively, taking the first tumbler
Kilbain poured. When his friend and fellow officer had finished
pouring his, he toasted: "To your good health, Commander."

"And to yours, Commander," Kilbain returned before knocking back the
contents of his glass in one fluid motion. "That's the good stuff all
right!"

"Definitely," Levison croaked out as the liquid burnt its way slowly
down his throat.

"More?" Greg asked, already pouring another glass full.

"Do I have a choice?" Levison chuckled.

"Nope," the white-haired man laughed, drinking his own measure in one
gulp again.

"You didn't come here just to get drunk, did you?" Mike asked, toying
with the glass in his hand.

"No, not only," Kilbain answered, "Just wanted to see how you were
getting on. Got pretty intense out there today."

"That it did," Levison sighed, staring into the alcoholic drink in
front of him as if it would provide some solace for a troubled mind.
"I took a demotion because I thought I could do more good out here
with my combat experience rather than flying a desk at Eden."

"And you have already, Mike. I think, anyway. Every time you lose
someone, either as a Captain or at Ops or Tactical, you do this to
yourself. You don't pull the triggers, or unleash the pathogens or
natural disasters that kill people under your care. The sooner you
realise that, the better," his friend retorted, honestly and firmly.

"You're right, just for a change," Levison nodded through a
half-smile. "I will get that into my thick skull, one day. Just not
today."

"As you wish sir," Greg smiled.

"And how about you, how are you? Driven any of those poor buggers in
the Tac-Centre to distraction yet?" Mike asked with a chuckled.

"Oooh, that's unfair of you, but probably true as well. No, but I was
startled at their efficiency. Some of them might shape up to be pretty
good officers," Kilbain laughed.

"Glad to hear it. All is not lost then," Levison remarked, finishing
the latest glass of whiskey. "Thanks for the drink," he smiled,
gesturing with the glass towards his colleague.

"Any time," Kilbain nodded, "I'll let you get on, or rather, get some
rest. I have an appointment with a sonic shower."

"Good!" Mike smirked, refusing to elaborate further on which part was
exactly. "I'll see you at zero-nine hundred for more repair duty."

"Can't wait for that!" came the other man's response as the doors slid
shut once more, leaving Levison to contemplate his actions and the
stars beyond his window.

[USS Chimera] SD:240911.13 Joint Duty log Lt Gustav Kroitzer CEO & Lieutenant Lara Proietti AEO (npc by Rick)

=Tarangor/Aeran Shipyard=
=Aeran System=

Lieutenant Proietti made her way down to the docking port. The Chimera had arrived a couple of hours earlier and she was overseeing the engineering team assigned from the shipyard to take care of structural and internal repairs. As she walked, her attention was focused on the Chimera damage report on the PADD in her right hand. Her mind was so focused on the PADD that she didn't notice the figure coming in the opposite direction.

Gustav was walking almost aimlessly from the Chimera going over everything that needed done to the Ship after the last battle when he turned a corner and all most walked straight into the woman coming the other way.

"Oh ... I'm sorry Lieutenant. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," Proietti said, trying to hide her embarrassment.

"It's OK Lt neither was I " he said.

Noticing the PADD in the Lt hand Gustav asked "I see your looking up the damage to my ship"?

She looked down at the PADD and back up at the Chimera CEO.

"Ah ... yes. We're beginning internal work today and I wanted to make certain that everything is in order," she explained then smiled. "You must be Lieutenant Kroitzer. I'm Lieutenant Proietti. I'm in charge of shipyard operations."

"Nice to meet you Lt, it'll be nice to have extra hands to help sort her out" he said giving a little nod in the Chimera's direction.

"I know if it were just my guys that it would take weeks to get her fighting fit again, but how long do you figure it will take adding your men to ours?"

"Well, according to this," she lifted the PADD. "We should have you outta here the middle of next week. Sooner if we don't encounter any unforseen problems."

"Well knowing this ship as well as I do there will probably be problems popping up" Kroitzer said half jokingly.

"I know I seem like in asking a lot of questions but I need to know when you plan on helping to sort the engines?" he asked.

"Actually, your engines are first on the list," she replied as they walked toward the Chimera. "I'm hoping to wrap that up by the weekend."

"That's good news Lt but I am surprised not to see Ri... I mean Commander Rogers here though".

She shrugged.

"I have no idea where Commander Rodgers is. One day he's here and the next he's gone. He placed Lieutenant Iava in charge of engineering over on the shipyard before he left. They say that it's a temporary transfer. Really secretive stuff if you ask me, though nobody does."

"hmmm... I guess if he can't tell anyone about it then I guess we shouldn't pry". he said wondering what his former CO was working on.

She nodded.

"True," she said. "But it doesn't stop the rumor mill."

They arrived at a turbolift. She stopped and looked at him, "Anyhow, like I said, with the recent expansion of the shipyard, we should have things wrapped up sometime next week. A month or so ago, it would have taking twice as long."

"That's good to hear, there is nothing worse than a starship crew stuck on a space station, they tend to go stir crazy, although it dose make for a nice change now and again" Gustav said with a smile on his face as he left to get something to eat.

[USS Chimera] SD240911.13 | CO, COps | Capt Cropa Rojac and MCapt Jade Reese | "Reporting In"

= Captain's Ready Room, USS Chimera C =

Jade smiled glad to be back on the Chimera but she did see the damage and she also read the reports that it wasn't an easy mission and she felt bad not being able to her part. But she knew that she would be good to go for the next one and she was glad that all of her personnel made it back alive. As she made it to the bridge she nodded to the skeleton crew manning it and then finally stopping in front of the CO's ready room door. She then hit the chime and waited to be invited in knowing that she needed to check in with Cmdr Summers one more time before she was cleared for duty but chances are there would be no problems.

The customary reply came in no time, "Come." At the command, the locked disengaged, the proximity sensors picked up Reese's form and the rotors whirred to life, pulling the door to the side.

The Captain looked up to see the Marine Officer approaching his desk. He leaned back into the soft artificial leather of his chair. "Captain Reese," he smirked, "It is glad to see you alive." He gestured to one of the two empty seats before the black slab of a desk. "Take a load off."

Jade nodded and took a seat in front of the desk, "I am to and I'm glad to see that you made it back also." Jade said knowing that it was a close one and that someone came through the gate.

"So what is your interpretation of the Doctor's diagnosis, Captain?" Rojac asked once she had settled in her seat.

"The doc said that with the ever changing harmonics of the engines might've caused the change in the DNA. And with the meditation skills that I've been taught and with one last check-in with the doc I should be good to go." Jade said smiling, "so how's the crew?" Jade asked.

"A little shaken up, but they will survive." Rojac replied. "Lieutenant Vaughn faced quite a trial by fire, Captain. He performed admirably, though I predict he will be glad to pass the reigns back to you."

Jade nodded but allowed a small smile to appear on her face knowing that what makes a good crew, "well that's good to hear." Jade said. "Well I have faith in him even if he doesn't have faith in himself." Jade said with a straight face she knew her department would do well even without her and especially under Ian's command. "I'm sure he well." Jade said with a small chuckle knowing that Ian enjoyed working in Ops but enjoyed it more when he wasn't in-charge.

"This is for him, when you see him next." Rojac opened a drawer in his desk and pulled out two small boxes, sliding them across the desktop toward the Operations Chief.

"An award: the Preantares Ribbon, given for his excellence in managing the operations department in your absence.  And a promotion, to Lieutenant Commander." Rojac said. "I wanted you to have the honors of presenting them."

"Thank you sir." Jade said beaming, "Lt Vaughn has definitely deserved these... er I mean LtCmdr Vaughn." Jade said looking at the ranks and the award she knew Ian wasn't big on promotions or awards but it does give a whole department pride in a job well done.

"In the meantime," the Captain began, "we have work to do. Lt. Kroitzer is in the process of replacing our port impulse drive. He's talking with people from the Aeran Shipyards as far as labor goes - I want you to handle the logistics and make sure he gets all of the supplies and resources he needs."

"Yes sir. I'll coordinate with the new Quartermaster." Jade said knowing that this'll be a good test for her seeing how she has worked with Marines and not with anyone in the Navy.

"There will be a senior staff meeting next week." Rojac stated. "Try and have all preparations for the repairs made before then."

"Everything well be ready for the meeting sir." Jade said knowing that she had a lot of paper work to and catching up but she knew Ian could deal with some of the bigger projects while she dealt with catching up.

"I'll let you get to it then, Captain Reese." Rojac smiled. "It's good to have you back. Dismissed."

"It's good to be back home sir." Jade said smiling as she stood up and walked out of the office with the two boxes in her hand Jade also decided that she'll do a mini ceremony in the ODCC for Ian and the rest of the operations department.

[USS Chimera] SD 240911.13 || Personal Log || Capt Rojac ||

[The Bluenote - Promenade Deck - SB 234: UNITY]

There was a soft knock of glass on wood as the bartender placed the glass down in front of the somber looking Starfleet Captain.

"One scotch on the rocks."

Rojac gave the man a half smile and a nod before picking up the glass with his right hand and bringing it to his lips. The bitter taste made him grimace slightly, but the warmth that passed through his throat was calm and soothing. Scotch was an acquired taste that he didn't enjoy often, even in the synthahol version, but he seemed to be drinking it more and more since his promotion to Captain.

In the dim lighting of the stage, a four piece band began their set. The bass player laid down a slow, somber melody that the drummer accompanied with a soft brushy rhythm. The Bluenote was a jazz bar and many musicians made the circuit to the Starbase on the front lines with Romulus and Erass. Rojac enjoyed stopping by when he had the chance - but this time his mind was preoccupied. As the guitar played a delicate rhythm and the saxophone took up a winding melody the young Captain was thinking over Guzman's speech in the meeting between himself and Captain Rodgers.

The Tech Ex was a nasty weapon, to be sure. The use of it would wipe out technology throughout an entire system or more. Without technology food production would drop and populations would starve, riot and pillage throwing entire economies and systems into social chaos. Whatever target the Federation hit would be reduced back to the stone age - possibly indefinitely (though little research was done in this area). The Federation would have even more blood on its already crimson hands.

But what was the alternative? This war was already bloody. V'tar's entire population had been murdered by the Romulan's use of thalaron weapons. A nasty virus had devastated the Erassian population on Charos VI. Thousands of Starfleet Officers and Marines had been killed thus far in the war. Many ships had fallen - including Rojac's first Chimera in the Battle of Aeran III. Starfleet's current strategies weren't working out so well. Sure, the Dimensional Gate in the Stellar Nursery had been destroyed but the Romulans, Breen and Muhareem no doubt had more scattered throughout the galaxy. That and the victory in the nursery had been coupled with losses in Padassa and Anaxis. Like Captain Rodgers so succintly put it, it was one step forward and two steps back.

Rojac emptied his class as the band finished their third song, and waved to the bartender for a second.

Current Intelligence saw no signs for recent advancement s in the Federation's war efforts. The current strategy would bring the Federation into a violent and bloody stalemate that would bring both empires into a war of attrition. But the words of the Samson's commander, Colonel Nikolai Ivanvov, floated around in the back of his mind. If the Borg decided to invade during a long drawn out war both sides would be easy pickings for the collective to assimilate. And things were already beginning, the Erassian said. The Federation needed to end this war quickly.

"You look upset." Came a familiar voice behind him. "Stressed. Grumpy. Agitated." Two thin hands found their ways to his shoulders and began massaging into the tense flesh. "I think you need some time off, boss."

Cropa brought up a hand and took Dior's. "You think?" He smirked to Rayna as she settled into the stool next to him.

"You know, it is R&R." She said. "You want to go down to the planet? Take some time off?"

Cropa smiled. "That sounds good. Do you have a bathing suit?"

"I can get one." This time she smirked. "Where are we going?"

"Sailing."

[USS Chimera] SD 240911.13 SB Unity. Duty Log Commander Summers CMO

"rangi.summers@mojwap.sk" <rangi.summers@mojwap.sk> wrote to chimera@ucip.org:

*** Med. Advisors Office * SB Unity ***

Almost six weeks had passed since the reports from USS
Scavenger and Wayfarer had caused Rangi so much concern.
Three officers onboard the two ships had all worked in the
Biogenic unit where the rescued hostages from the Breen
freighter had been taken and all three had displayed the
same symptoms as those unfortunate people.

Rangis initial thought had been to quarantine the ships but
Shane had correctly pointed out that there was no proof that
the three suffered from the same condition and had not been
willing to take two ships out of active service on what was
really only a hunch.

He was ofcourse being totally rational and as the days
passed and no more cases were evident, Rangi had had to
agree that Shanes view had been valid, although she couldn't
feel relaxed about it.

The three men had overcome the fevers and respiritory
problems and to all intents and purposes were healthy, just
as long as one overlooked the strange thin dark lines that
remained obvious on their bodies.

Every day a report had arrived on her desk from both ships
and every day the problem seemed to diminish.
It wouldnt go away though because reports from the Medical
Research Intelligence on Aphos still had no conclusive
results to offer and until they had, Rangi couldnt shake the
thought that coincidences are too much of a simple
explanation.

Her enquiry at the outset as to where the two ships had been
since the three men joined the crews had shown only two stop
overs.

The Scavenger had spent a total of six days in orbit above
two mining colonies in remote areas before the CMO and CScio
had become ill.
Contact with anyone had been minimal, for the visits had
been to transport replacement tool parts and only two
engineers had transported to the surface of the planet at
the second stop. One had remained there and the other had
returned to her ship.

The Wayfarer had not stopped at all.

Now the standard isolation time had been exceeded and even
allowing for the unknown, because the three crew were as
healthy as they could be, there had been no reason to keep
them in biofields any longer.

The medical officers on the two ships requested her
permission to release the patients into quarantine rooms,
giving them more freedom but under observation and she had,
albeit reluctantly , agreed.

Now she forwarded the latest update to Shane. The report
would lay on his desk unread until he waded through the back
logs because it was no longer of priority and yet......

Rangi sighed and stood up from the sofa where she had been
sitting compiling the report.
{...and yet...} she thought standing at the viewport and
looking down at the planet far below.
{....and yet what?}
She shook her head.

Something didnt seem right but 'what' it was or 'why' it was
she couldnt say. It was a feeling, unsettled and niggling
but evasive.
She couldnt explain it..... but she didnt like it.

[USS Chimera] SD 240911.11 || Conference JL || RAdm Guzman, Capt Rodgers & Capt Rojac ||

[Conference Room - Taskforce Level - SB 234: UNITY]

Captain Cropa Rojac pulled down on the rim of his jacket as he approached the two solid doors with the Taskforce emblem emblazoned on their exterior. Though Bravo Group's mission was largely successful, the Eagle was lost - and he had behaved rather recklessly in his rescue operation for Major Cortez and his team. Of course, he would never outright admit that to his commanding officers. The data Shao was carrying was critical to the war strategies as a whole, and why not pick up Cortez and crew while he was there?

He passed through the doors to see Captain Rodgers already in attendance. He walked up to him and extended a hand. "Trent, its good to see you again." The task force XO's thoughts had been elsewhere when he was brought back to the present by Cropa.

"You as well," Trent took the offered hand. "I'm glad to see that you and the Chimera has made it home in one piece."

"Me too." Cropa replied before turning toward the opening door.

Shane wasn't in a good mood today. Starfleet Command was giving him headaches again and he felt increasing pressure to deliver results in a large scale. The reasons could be only two. Starfleet Command had great faith in the ability of SSF 1st Task Force to perform wonders in the war … or Starfleet Command was searching for reasons to reprimand SSF, 1st Task Force, Task Force CO, Task Force vessel COs.

Walking inside the conference room, He nodded towards the two other officer and said: "Gentleman" and walked to the head of the table, sitting down on his chair. Drinks were already present, so he said plainly: "Please, let's begin."

Trent took a seat, but waited for either Shane or Cropa to begin the meeting.

"As my report stated, Admiral," Rojac began, "Bravo Groups main objective in Operation Magna was completed, though at a high cost. The Romulan's influence in Quorom space will no
doubt decline without that Gate in the Stellar Nursery, however with the loss of Padassa and Anaxis our influence in the region will falter as well."

Trent looked at both the admiral the Chimera captain.

"Excellent work on shutting down that gate, but there's no way we can win this war going one step forward and two steps back. Hell, if we're taking two steps forward, we're just fighting the Romulans to a draw. And from everything I've read, it's the same on all fronts," Trent stated.

"I agree, Captain." Rojac said. "Which is why I'm glad to see some of the initiative the President is beginning to take. I only hope that he can get the council to follow suit."

Cropa looked toward the Admiral, "What are our next steps, sir?" He asked. "Have you heard anything from Command?"

Shane nodded: "Yes, there are news, but I do not like them and I am sure you wont like them as well." He stated firmly.

"I must second to Captain's Rodger's words ... you performed very well and we could not expect any better from you or your task group, but it just looks like that we are not able to make a real difference in this war. The best we can reach is a draw, what is just not enough. At least from the perspective of Starfleet Command."

Looking at both Captains, Shane asked: "What details do you know about the initiative from President Spock?"

The XO shook his head.

"I don't know much," Trent said. "Commander Rodgers was called away for something called Project Los Alamos. When I inquired to the specifics, I was basically told that it was nothing for me to be concerned about."

"Trouble is that I know hardly more, besides that fact that our forces are no longer thought as capable of winning this war and that we are moved to a support role. The plan of President Spock shall deal with the war and I fear that Starfleet Command will employ weapons of mass destruction upon the Romulan Empire."

"And here I thought we considered ourselves above such things, no matter how bad this war had become" Trent said. "The whole prospect is disturbing."

"Another disturbing point that there are two people on this station that will be directly responsible for a massacre that happened never before." Shane looked at Trent and said: "Your brother, Captain ... and ... me"

"Sir, what can you tell me that Starfleet won't?" Trent asked. "I read something about something called a TechEx that was discovered on a recent mission, but most the report was classified beyond my payscale."

"It's the strange device Rick found on the Detector when salvaging the ship. He explained some of the devastating effect of that device to me and I ordered that device to be dismantled. I should have destroyed it immediately, but I did not ... and now Starfleet posses a weapon like none else in the whole quadrant does."

"What kind of a device? Please tell me they haven't dug up another Genesis?" Trent asked.

Shane explained the basics of the device.

"Damn it," Trent muttered. "We've become a bunch of damn hypocrites, always claiming to be better than everyone else. And here we are, proving all of the so-called evil powers in the galaxy right about us. And someone as enlightened as Spock supporting this ..."

Trent allowed himself to laugh.

"Just a bunch of damn hypocrites," Trent repeated.

"The needs of the many..." Rojac muttered quietly. He looked up to see Shane and Trent casting him unusual glares - almost bewildered. "I do not think it's hypocrisy." He said more defiantly. "All of our current intel is pointing toward a stalemate - and not a stagnant one, but a bloody one. Both sides losing countless amounts of lives with no real progress being made. No real end to the war in sight." Cropa looked to Trent, "How many more people need to die before we end this war? How many systems will survive when we take down Romulus? How many will perish if we don't? They've already taken V'Tar with their Thalaron Cruisers, Charos with their biogenic weapons - what's next?"

The Chimera's Captain shook his head, "I can see Spock's reasoning behind this. I don't like it, but it is logical." He made eye contact with the Admiral at the head of the table, "Sometimes the best decision is the hardest one to make."

"Don't get me wrong, Captain Rojac. I'm not against the use of such a weapon" Trent said. He really didn't care how many Romulans were killed.

"Like you said whatever ends this war and saves Federation lives. We just need to take a long hard look at ourselves if or when we do. The Federation and Starfleet will no longer be able to justify this holier than thou attitude that we have displayed over the past two hundred years."

Trent paused for a moment.

"But if that's the sacrifice we have to make then so be it" Trent added.

Shane shook his head: "But we speak here of weapon of mass destruction. Starfleet used such weapons never before and it has been ALWAYS military structures Starfleet picked as targets. Now Starfleet will directly attack civilians, killing civilians, old people, and children. When it was the last time Starfleet took innocent lives with a purpose to end a war?"

"Unfortunately, with the kind of war the Romulans are waging, there are no innocent lives," Trent said coldly.

Looking at both Captains, Shane asked: "If I would give any of you a direct order to get a cloaked ship to Romulus, beam a shock troop down the planet and attack a children crèche – where a son of the preator could be find, would you go and kill every single child in the crèche? Would you go and kill every single child on Romulus, just to get the praetor's son?"

That hit Trent in a way he hadn't expected. He considered arguing to the Admiral the point. Instead, he was too torn on the issue and really hadn't had a chance to think it over.

"Like I said, we're going to have to take a long, hard look at ourselves if we use this weapon," Trent finally said.

Cropa did not answer but sat in the awkward silence for a few moments until the Admiral continued the meeting. As Shane delved into the more menial and administrative tasks of the meeting - arranging personnel and resources for the Chimera's repairs, granting leave time and transfers, and giving him conference assignments for the Chimera's senior staff - Rojac thought about Guzman's question. Would he go after every child on Romulus? He record suggested he would. He had rigged the Chimera-A for detonation when it had been boarded by Romulan Commandoes outside a secret base. He had killed the traitorous Captain Shivas - his own CO of the Dark Horizon during his stint as Executive Officer. Rojac followed his orders, and thought little of them most of the time. It was his method - effecient, no frills, no questions asked. Was he wrong?

After the meeting, he would be found in the BLuenote Bar on the promenade, mulling over the same questions.

Chimerans!

Wow. Usually logging seems to spike during periods of R&R. Not so thus far...

A lot was in the works lat week, but RL reared it's time consuming head again. Shake your fists at RL, maybe together we can collectively reclaim the joy it has sapped from our souls. This week it seems to have absorbed the time of both Rik and Jer, both of whom I am forced to drop due to inactivity and communication. We all hope you will soon be able to wrest free of your constraints and join us once more.

Plot-wise: More R&R, but expect an awards ceremony some time this week. I'll write, you react. Koscher?

Dismissed.

Unity - Rangi

Denaria Loto and Trent  Rodgers discussed the recent events
and despite Denarias positive outlook, Trent wasnt
convinced.

Cortez was at 'Deaths Door' when he arrived in the
infirmary. Rangi told him he had a choice of a short life or
an operation that might well fail. With only minutes to
decide, Cortez chose surgery.
Later, Rojac visited the recovery wards, blaming himself for
Cortez, condition. The marine feined sleep so as to hear
what was said. Rojac, reassured by Rangis slightly positive
report, asked to be informed as soon as Cortez regained
conciousness.

Major General Sharpe was rushed to Unitys main infirmary
with internal bleeding and needing immediate surgery.

Shane returned to Earth onboard the Qashqai to attend two
meetings which gave him more problems to worry over, not
least of which was the weapon found on the Detector which he
had ordered to be dismantled. It seemed that in the near
future he would be required to do things he would not like.

Jade ended the days training on a successful note then had
the surprise of meeting an old friend, S'hae D'Belzen, who
was to be the new Quartermaster.

e.g., SD 240502.01, CO's Log, Capt Rojac
e.g., SD 240502.01, Personal Log, Cropa Rojac
The [USS Chimera] part of the subject is placed automatically by the listserv, so you don't need to include it.
Also remember to include your details at the end of your log

-------------------------
- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (
chimera-command@ucip.org ) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (
chimera-command@ucip.org).
