[USS Chimera] SD: 240907.18 Personal Log, Maj. Anya Xerxes

----------
Start Log
----------

Anya couldn't quite understand why she had come to Trill.  All of a sudden whilst she was 'hitchhiking' on regular Starfleet ships back to Unity she had been overcome with the sudden urge to come and see her 'Grandmother'.  Come to think about it she had only met her twice and yet she had been overcome by the urge to see her?  No something definitely wasn't right.  Anya stepped off of the shuttlepad staircase and entered into the terminal building.  Anya passed through the security checkpoint flashing her SSF ID Card and showing her sidearm as well.  The local security didn't have a problem with her packing heat and waved her through.  When she entered the next room there was a slender, female Trill in a white hooded silken robe.

The young woman spoke, the hood revealing only her mouth.  "Miss Xerxes, we've been expecting you.  I have prepared a transport to send us to the Lunar Shrine where the High Priestess is waiting for you."

Anya resisted the urge to move her hand towards the Macarov 9mm she carried.  "How exactly have you been expecting me?  I didn't even know I was coming until two days ago and I never sent any word ahead.  So is my grandmothers information network that good then or was this cobbled together at the last moment?"

The young woman gave a knowing smile that really pissed Anya off.  "We knew Miss Xerxes because she told us."

"My grandmother?  Is she some sort of psychic now?"  Anya replied.

The young gave that knowing smile again and motioned for Anya to follow her before placing both her hands in front of her in the opposite sleeves of her white robe.  "For who you're related to you should show more faith."

"I've got plenty of faith kid.  Faith in myself, faith in my subordinates, faith in my fighters.  I don't hold faith with half baked predictions from fortune tellers and for all I know you've been waiting at that shuttlepad gate since the day several months ago I first met my so called grandmother."  Anya replied acidly.

The reply came back in the same serene tone no doubt accompanied by the same irritating smile.  "You would know Prophet."

The words chilled Anya to the bone.  She had only confirmed Prophet's existance to one other person and that was Athena.  It was quite likely that Alecto and Susan, Viktor's daughter could sense Prophet inhabiting her but they had never voiced anything about it.  How Anya's grandmother or this woman knew or even suspected Prophet's existance was something which Anya simply couldn't explain.

The young woman led the way into a transporter room and stepped up onto the padd before turning and saying to Anya with that same damned smile.  "Come Miss Xerxes, the Goddess awaits.

=1st SSF Task Force XO's Office=
=Starbase UNITY=

Sitting at his desk and looking over one of many hundreds of reports that made it to his desk since he had been given temporary command of the taskforce, Trent would glance from time to time at the photo holographic image on the desk's right corner. After awhile, he put the report down and stared at the image of his wife and sighed. He missed her, true, but he was also worried about their future. It was something that he should have discussed with his brother a few days ago, but Trent was not the kind of person to open up with anybody, except his wife.

He tried to clear these concerns from his mind, but continued to stare at the image. As he did so, the voice of his aide/one-man security detail, First Lieutenant Bannister, broke the silence.

+tap+ "Bannister to Captain Rodgers."

Trent broke away from his trance and cleared his head.

"Yes, Lieutenant."

+tap+ "Captain Rojac is here, sir."

"Ah ... good. Send him in," Trent replied, grateful for the diversion.

Seconds later, Rojac entered just as Trent turned off the holographic image. Trent
then stood to greet the Chimera CO.

"Captain, it's good to see that you and the Chimera made it back OK," Trent smiled,
offering his hand. "Especially after that little incident you had before you returned."

Rojac chuckled. He wouldn't exactly call the razing of a Breen base an 'incident.' "I have a good crew, Captain." Rojac replied. "I just had to sit in the chair and watch."

Trent offered Rojac a seat and drink before he took a seat himself.

"I'm sorry that I haven't gotten with you sooner, but I've been busy almost non-stop
taking calls from Earth," Trent said, leaving out that most of those calls were inquiring
about the whereabouts of Commodore Guzman, which he was able to dodge the best
he could. "And when I'm not talking to Starfleet Command, I'm reading report after
report after report," Trent nodded to the stacks of PADDS on his desk.

"That's quite alright, Captain." Rojac assured the Taskforce's XO. "I have had plenty of thing to occupy my time." He thought back to the incident with Mr. Davis in the VIP quarters, the myriad of leave requests that piled onto his desk, and the warpcore breach the careless engineer had triggered in the Chimera's Main Engineering bay. "I trust my report answered most of your questions."

"Yes it did. Your task group did excellent work getting and keeping the Canna system in allied
hands," Trent said, playing the role of TF XO. "What were your overall thoughts on the mission,
captain? Anything that may have not made it on a standard report."

"Not much." Rojac said, leaning back in his chair. "I've included all applicable tactical files in the final report to SSF Command. And I have Major Xerxes forwarding all relevant files on her puppetmaster program." Rojac said, "As for the Erassians, I think we played quite nicely this last go around."

"Having all of our ships return is a good sign that maybe we can start taking this war to
the enemy instead of just holding them back and retaking lost terrority. And the weapon you
recovered should have the boys and girls at back at starfleet drooling for weeks," Trent said.

Rojac nodded. Kroitzer and Reese seemed glad to have the weapons off their hands in their reports, and the Captain agreed.

"It seems that your new security chief has already made quite an impression around here,"
Trent said, holding back a slight grin.

"Yes, he has." Rojac conceded. "THough I still believe him to be a capable Security Officer. I won't let it happen again, sir."

"I'm sure yourself, Lieutenant Mumacik and the JAG department can sort it out," Trent said.
"I'm also sure that you and the entire group have earned at least a month's leave.
Unfortunately, you will likely be called upon again as soon as the Chimera's repairs are
completed."

Trent then allowed a smile, "Though I've told the shipyard to not get in too big of a hurry."

"I appreciate it, Captain." Rojac replied.

Trent stood, "Well then captain, I will allow you to get back whatever time off you do manage
to get in. You have earned it."

"Thank you, Sir."

[USS Chimera] SD240907.17 Joint Duty Log - MCapt/Lt COps/FCO Jade Reese and Rayna Dior - "Minor Adjustments"

[Bridge, USS Chimera]

Stepping away from the ops console Jade headed down to the CONN station to speak with Lt Dior she had some adjustments to make which would make the smaller adjustments much more smoother. And it would also give some more power to the maneuvering thrusters she turned to make sure that one of the other operations officer took over the console when she left. "Lt do you have a moment?" Jade asked once she was behind the Lt.

Rayna looked over her shoulder to see MCap Reese behind her holding a padd. She closed the diagnostic report on the warp field she had been studying and swiveled around to greet her. "Sure. Not a lot of flying to do being docked at a starbase." Dior grinned.

"I have some updates that'll give you some more power for the maneuvering thrusters and also making to make the smaller course adjustments much more smoother." Jade said handing her the PADD that had the updates she hope that the Lt would be impressed with the work.

Rayna took a glance at the padd. "Wow. A 10% power increase to the fuel dispersal emitter? That should boost the output ratio of the RCS thrusters by 30%." She put the padd down on her lap and ran a hand atop her helm console. "She'll probably be a little jumpy at first, but she'll wear in these new shoes just fine. Thanks, Cap'n."

"No problem." Jade said allowing a small smile, "I've been having my department looking at all the diagnostics and seeing where we could improve on some of the systems." Jade said.

"Tell me, Cap'n? Have you looked over these diagnostics of the warp field during our trip through the Grand Banks?" Rayna asked.

"Me personally no I haven't looked at those diagnostics." Jade said, "but give me a minuet and I can look and see who has." Jade said turning and heading back to the ops console and taking a minuet to see who may have taken a look at the warp field diagnostics. Heading back to the CONN station, "I actually had a team monitoring them while we were on this mission.

"Well," Rayna began, "the electrical storms were altering the field symmetry, putting a higher strain on our warp coils. Because of that, I think we need to schedule our inspection of the warp coils sooner. Can you get a team out there while we're in dock?"

"Yes I'll get the team that was monitoring the warp field I'll go with them. Hopefully they would just need a good cleaning and they won't need to be replaced." Jade said seeing that would take longer then normal.

"Great." Rayna smiled. "Then that should free me up for the inspection of the shuttle compliment. Thanks Captain. Is there anything else?"

"Nope not right now." Jade said returning the smile, "I'll send you the report of the warp field once we get the inspection done." Jade said she then turned and headed up to the ops console to let the replacement officer know what she was going to be doing and then headed for the turbolift and headed for the ODCC to get her team ready.

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.16 | Earth | Personal Log, Cmdr Trzetrzelewska (XO)

[ Earth - Moscow ]

Natalia sat next to the kitchen window in her parents' Moscow apartment, looking out at the beautiful panorama of the ancient Earth city from the vantage point of the 80th-story residence. It was a clear morning with blue skies and only a few wispy clouds in sight. She cradled a warm cup of coffee in her hands and admired the view. Nestled in between the tall skyscrapers were sprawling parks and global heritage buildings, some of which were hundreds of years old, but most having been restored after their destruction in World War III.

"Good morning, my darling," a voice said from behind her and Natalia turned to see her mother entering the kitchen, dressed in a warm robe. "What are you doing up so early? You should be in bed still, relaxing. I could have made that for you."

"Mom," she smiled and pulled a hand through her tangled her. "I haven't seen the sunrise for so long; I wanted to enjoy it for a change."

"It's so good to have you here," Zanira Trzetrzelewska smiled as she walked over to her daughter and placed her arms around her. After all the years of living on Earth, she still had a strong Halanan accent. "I could get used to seeing you here in the mornings. It's nice to have someone here when I wake up. Your father is always at work when I open my eyes in the morning."

"Papa's never been one to sleep in late," Natalia commented. "Even when I was little, he'd have half his work for the day done by the time I went to school."

"Indeed," Zanira chuckled, brushing a strand of dark raven hair aside. "What would you like for breakfast?"

"Please, you don't have to go to trouble, you've been making me breakfast all week," Natalia insisted.

"It's no trouble! I enjoy it. It's lovely having someone to spoil for a change. What are your plans for today?"

"I'm going to London," Natalia replied after a moment. "There's someone I need to see there." She couldn't yet tell her mother who that was. They'd been very close when she was younger, but the nature of her Starfleet career had made her become too comfortable with keeping secrets, and it was a hard habit to get rid of.

"All right, but after breakfast?" Zanira insisted with a glint in her eye, clapping her hands together. "Let me make you something first!"

Natalia just laughed. There was no refusing her mother when she got that look. "All right! Breakfast then. But afterwards I have to go."

Satisfied at her answer, Zanira beamed and began to shuffle around in the kitchen with pans and ingredients.

[ London - Cranfield Center ]

Although visiting her parents was a major part of her visit to Earth during the Chimera's R&R, there was another reason for her visit. Fr'r'n Lakqost was still being treated at the Cranfield Center after he sustained extensive injuries during the Chimera's encounter with the strange Honohrans. She felt partly responsible for what had happened to him because he was on the away mission sent to rescue her from the Honohrans' clutches. It wasn't her fault directly, but she felt if she had been more cautious in her dealings with the Honohrans, she wouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.

After her last meeting with Rangi, who kept her updated on his condition, she promised herself she would go to visit him at the first opportunity. He had no family or other relatives. The doctors then had no clear indication just how well he would recover, if at all. Her fear was that if he was released from Cranfield, he'd be sent back to Xenex. While she respected the right of his people to request his return as a citizen of Xenex, their medical standards were not nearly on par with that of the Federation and he would receive much better care on a Federation world if he were disabled.

But that was the worst case scenario. Before she left Unity for Earth, she spoke with the doctors at the center and they had good news. He was awake now and could speak. He still had some functional problems, but there was a good chance he would improve.

Natalia had arrived at the Cranfield Center a few minutes ago and was told that Fr'r'n was outside. He'd improved rapidly the past few days and was well enough to venture around in a hoverchair. She ventured down the stone steps onto the paths of the sprawling gardens. Surrounded by tall connifers, Natalia walked down the cobbled path, her shoes clicking against the stones as she looked around in hopes of spotting him. It took her a few moments, but luckily there weren't many patients outside.

He sat in the hoverchair beside a grove of tall oak trees, dressed in white and gazing at the wisps of cloud in the sky. She stopped for a moment before stepping on the grass, feeling somewhat nervous about approaching him. Chiding herself for being foolish, she took a breath and walked slowly over to him. He didn't notice her at first, but as she came closer, he turned his head to look at her. It took him a moment to recognise her, but when he did a lopsided smile crept over his lips.

Natalia couldn't help but smile herself. Fr'r'n wasn't someone who smiled very often, his former position as Chimera's Security Chief being something he took very seriously, but when he did smile it made it all the more special. She came closer to him and hunched down next to his chair, looking up at him. He was still smiling softly, his blue eyes gleaming.

Things between them had never developed into anything intimate, but the feelings were there from her side. When they were on the Honohran ship, when Fr'r'n was injured, there was a moment when Natalia touched him and the touch connected them. It was an infrequent occurence with Halanans, but it was not unheard of during times of emotional stress, and for that brief moment they'd shared emotions. Though she was still unsure of herself, she though then she had felt a sense of fondness for her from him. Whether he had felt her attraction to him, she didn't know... and it was eating her up inside.

"Fr'r'n... do you remember me?" she asked him, not sure if his memory had fully recovered. The doctors had said he was still confused at times.

He slowly reached out his hand towards her and she took it. "Natalia..." he said slowly and closed his fingers around hers.

She felt a great relief at hearing him say her name and smiled affectionately at him. "You don't have to say anything more," she said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You don't have to speak."

[Bridge - Deck One - Detector]

"Two have beamed onto the Qashqai." LtJG Siashon shouted backward from the helm console. "Confirmation of Commodore Guzman's combadge."

Chisulo was about to turn to Rangi and smile when his Science Officer broke the moment of joy with his report. "Three warbirds de-cloaking off the starboard bow!"

"Three!?" Chisulo said, a little louder than he intended.

"Their weapons are charged! They're targeting the Qashqai!" Tactical reported.

"One of them is confirmed to be the scout ship we tracked." Science added.

Chisulo grimaced. "Helm attack pattern Chekov-Beta-Three. Drop the cloak. Tactical, full torpedo spread. Target the drive system of all three warbirds."

"Aye sir!" Came the simultaneous replies.

Saichon's exclamation and fast confirmation of the Commodore's combadge caused Rangi immeasurable relief. A wide smile transformed the worried expression on her face and she leaned back in her chair with a heartfelt sigh. The moment was short lived. Once again fear clutched her tightly in its grip and she sat motionless hearing the torpedoes fire from the ship in a deadly volley.

[Bridge - Deck One – USS Qashqai]

Shane invested only a warm look and a brief smile at his son when he made sure that Martin is cared for. He was taken into the small sickbay under guard and was immediately examined by Qashqai's medical staff. To leave no chances for 'accidents' open, sickbay was all covered by a strong force field, preventing anyone beaming in or out. Harker's dead body was locked down and put under stasis field.

It took him only a moment to arrive on the bridge and he was immediately briefed about the situation.

"Sir, we have three Romulan ships de-cloaking just in front of us" said the TAC officer.

"Shields! Red alert!" Shane cried and hurried over to the command chair. While walking he barked new orders: "HELM, evasive maneuvers, beta three. Get us out of orbit as fast as possible".

The small defiant class ship almost jerked as it sprung forward and then to the left attempting to evade. Maneuverability was Qashqai's only advantage against three Romulan ships. From what Shane could visually see, two were regular Warbirds of D'Deridex class, while the last ship was a scout vessel. The Qashqai would definitely beat the small scout vessel; one D'Deridex would be QUITE a match, but all three ships together were a certain death for the small defiant class Qashqai.

As the first distruptor shot slightly shook the ship, the OPS officer announced: "Sir, there is another ship decloaking, just above us. It's … the USS Detector!"

"What?" Shane called. "Continue evasive maneuvers and hail the Detector. I want to know what is going on here!"

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Detector]

The Detector's torpedo tube one erupted in blue flame, firing a lone transphasic torpedo toward the first target. The weapon glowed in a bright blue flame a is phased through the starboard d'deridex class warbird's shields and embedded itself in the aft drive section. Their was a slight pause before the hull of the large battle ship ruptured.

"Direct hit." Science called out. "We phased right through their shields. The singularity drive is destabilizing. They're imploding!"

"Target two." Chisulo ordered. "Attack pattern Riker-Seven." His gaze locked on the viewscreen before him.

"Sir!" The Communications officer called from the aft section of the bridge. "We're being hailed by the Qashqai."

Chisulo glanced back for a moment before refixing his gaze on the enemy at hand. "Ask them to hold, please."

The communications officer looked bewildered, but he would put the Commodore on hold just the same.

"We're in position!" Saichon called from the helm.

"Prepare for fire two." Chisulo ordered calmly.

[Bridge - Deck One – USS Qashqai]

Shane watched the visual effect of a transphasing torpedo with extreme surprise. Transphasing weapons were one of the top secrets of Starfleet and used VERY rarely and only in
cases where other weapons were ineffective. Seeing one on the Detector was QUITE a surprise. For a moment Shane was relieved, cause no Romulan ship could stand against transphasing weapons and this fight was already won.

"Detector asked us to hold down our communication request." Announced the TAC officer. Like lightning, a thought struck Shane's mind. {There might be Rangi on one of those ships!}

"Damn!" Shane shouted. "Tell the Detector to IMMEDIATELY stop firing. There might be Starfleet prisoners on those ships!"

Looking at the HELM officer he said: "Get us between the Romulans and Detector, NOW!"

"What?" asked the HELM officer not ready to believe his own ears.

"Damn it, you heard me! Bring us between the Romulans and Detector NOW!"

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Detector]

"The D'Deridex and Scout vessel are taking an evasive course." Tactical called out. "I can not get a lock on the d'deridex."

"Saichon," Chisulo ordered, "lay in a pursuit course for the d'deridex. Re-arm torpedo bay 1."

"Aye, sir." Saichon intially reported, but she quickly turned around. "Sir! The Qashqai is blocking our pursuit!"

"What?" Chisulo whirled around to the Communications officer. "Hail them. Now!"

The Communications officer nodded that the frequency was open. Chisulo turned to face the screen. "USS Qashqai, this is Captain Chisulo on the USS Detector. Please stand down immediately."

On the other end of the screen the face of Commodore Guzman appeared – rather NOT pleased "Captain, this is Commodore Guzman. There might be Starfleet prisoners on those ships. Hold your fire immediately!"

On one hand, Tedros Chisulo was glad to see the face of his commanding officer in tact (despite a bruised cheek and a black eye), but on the other hand he was deeply annoyed. The Commodore had just come between him and a torpedo lock on the d'deridex warbird that was escaping his grasp. "Commodore Guzman, all Federation prisoners are being held on Padassa Station." Chisulo said. But then he recognized the look of dread on the Commodore's face - it was the same look Rangi had worn as she came aboard the bridge. "Commodore, I have Commander Summers safely in my custody."

"Really?" Shane asked, his face lit in happiness. "Both Rangi and Varis?"

Chisulo cringed slightly as the mention of the JAG officer, who did not make it aboard the Detector but had died while in captivity. He decided it would be best to mention that fact after the current danger had passed, "I have Commander Summers, sir."

"Great job, Captain!" Shane cried in relief. "We… talk later, let's finish off those Romulans now…" It could be seen that Guzman ordered something and then Qashqai turned sharply to the right and down, opening a clear line of sight for the Detector. With a small circle the Qashqai targeted the small scout with her weapon systems and prepared to open fire.

"Resume intercept course." Chisulo ordered Saichon.

"Aye sir." Saichon replied.

Without any warning the Romulan Scout spun around and opened fire on the nearest warbird. Its weapons cut right through the shields of the giant Romulan ship, severing the neck and sending debris hurtling into space.

"Captain!" Tactical shouted to Chisulo. "All system on the D'deridex have gone dead."

Chisulo watched the scene unfold in incredulity. The scoutship, knowing the proper frequency with which to fire its disruptors, had disembodied the command section of the warbird and left it floating lifelessly in space. Did they have an ally aboard the scoutship?

"Target the scoutship," Chisulo ordered, "Hold fire. Helm, take us to their six o'clock."

The damaged bridge of the Romulan Scout appeared on the viewscreen of the Qashqai, and in the centre sat a Romulan man. Around him lay two dead Romulan bodies and an Anxinar officer sat in front of him at the helm.

"Commodore Guzman, I am SubCommander Cevalas," he introduced himself. "We are standing down weapons; we mean you no harm. I am a member of the Unificationist movement, and I am here to lend you any assistance you require. I apologise for not coming to your aid sooner, but I had to get something out of the way first," he said, looking sideways at the dead Romulans.

At first, Shane was very surprised about seeing the small scout vessel attacking the large D'deridex class War bird. Nonetheless, the scout ship was very effective in disabling the War bird and for a moment Shane thought that Harker … or maybe Tal'shiar were cleaning all traces … but then SubCommander Cevalas indruduced himself and his actions.

The 'raw' inside him yelled to deny any mercy to those Romulans and to destroy them ALL. They dared to kidnap his son and Rangi as well as other Starfleet officers and almost killed him … why should he not pay them the same? The power was in his hand, one simple order could put an end to those devils … but his sane side won the small inner battle and Shane finally nodded.

"Nice to meet you, SubCommander. Your assistance was unexpected but welcome nonetheless. Please excuse my distrust for the moment, but I had to learn the hard way what can happen when Tal'shiar is involved. Detector shall stay combat ready if any … surprises should happen and we can meet on board my ship"

The Romulan nodded his head. "Of course, Commodore. I'll stand by to transport over on your word."

Shane nodded and looked at the TAC officer. "Lower our shields, disable weapons and go down to yellow alert. Contact the Detector and ask Captain Chisulo and Commander Summers to beam on board."

"Aye, sir."

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.15 | SB Unity | Personal Log, Cmdr Ohmsford (1TF Sci/Eng)

[ SB Unity - 1st Task Force Personnel Quarters ]

Bren sat on the edge of his new bed feeling emotionally drained and very frazzled. His skin was pale and the dark circles under his eyes spoke volumes about his sleeping habits. Since he'd returned to Unity on the Chimera, he'd had to move into new quarters because his old residence - the one he'd shared with Liev - was off-limits pending the conclusion of an investigation into Liev's disappearance and his subsequent replacement with a Chameloid agent.

The first thing he did was to try and find out what the hell happened and what the hell was going on, but he met with a brick wall at almost every turn. Shane wasn't on the station to talk to, Rangi was missing along with Liev, Major Kinn was not here and Captain Rodgers didn't know anything more than Bren did. Lieutenant Mumacik just gave him dead-pan answers when questioned and requested that Bren wait until Major Kinn or the Commodore returned... whenever that might be. Until then Bren was slowly going out of his mind.

Captain Rodgers had given him time off, but he'd quickly rejected it, knowing that he needed to stay busy otherwise he would go insane bit by bit. It was already hard enough, not knowing what was going on, if Liev was still alive or if he was dead. And every time he thought about it he shuddered to think that a Chameloid had shared his life, shared his bed, completely fooled him and the rest of the Task Force. He didn't even want to begin to think about the amount of information that could have been leaked and how many lives it put in danger.

And all that time he didn't notice anything. How could he not have noticed anything? Had he become that distant and wrapped up in his own little world that he didn't even notice when his partner had been replaced by a complete stranger? Only a few days ago he would have thought the idea ridiculous. Of course he would notice it. But now that it's become a reality, his own faith in his power of perception and his connection with Liev was somewhat shaken.

Bren looked at the nightstand where a small hypospray lay. The Infirmary had given him a sleeping agent to help him rest. So far he hadn't used it, mainly falling asleep from mere emotional exhaustion, but tonight his mind was over active and he just couldn't stop thinking. Perhaps it was a good time to start using it.

After a moment's hesitation, he reached over and took the hypospray. He looked at the setting, 12mg, and then placed the hypospray against his jugular before injecting. Almost immediately after he pressed the release he could feel the medication slowly begin to take effect. Putting the spray back on the nightstand, he lay back on the bed and stared for a few moments up at the ceiling before drifting off to sleep.

[USS Chimera] SD 240907.13 || Harker Confrontation || Part Two ||

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Detector]

"Captain," Lieutenant JG Siashon reported from the Helm console. The Tellarite officer swivelled in her chair to  face Chisulo. "One lifeform has transported to the Qashqai."

Rangi gripped the arm of her chair then stood up. "Just one?" she asked and regardless of Chisulo,  hurried past him towards the helm console " Are you sure? Just one?"

"Yes Commander," Siashon replied, pointed at the sensor report on the console so that Rangi could see. The particulars of the lifeform readings indicated that it was most likely a child.

"Martin." she breathed and though relief flowed through her it was soon dampened.

She turned her head quickly to look back at Chisulo. "Can we talk to them?" she asked willing him to say 'yes.'

"Not yet, Commander." Chisulo replied with his his expressionless visage. "Please, take your seat. We will speak with them soon enough." Though the coast looked clear thus far, Chisulo had a feeling in his gut that things were not as quiet as they seemed. And his gut was rarely wrong.

Rangi did as she was asked and returned to her former place. She understood why communications were barred but it was so tantalizing just the same.

[Planetary Surface]

As soon as Shane threw the phaser into the water he was surprised as Harker threw a punch at him, catching him square in the jaw and sending him staggering backwards.

"Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting to do that?" Nicolas half-shouted, half-spat at Shane. "For years and years I've waited for this moment!"

Taken by surprise by the furious attack, Shane was defenseless for a moment. But the moment was quickly gone and adrenaline filled Shane's body as he went furious as well. With a high kick, he managed to hit Harker in the head and send him sprawling. He jumped on him immediately trying to hit him again.

Nicolas managed to push Shane off him and rolled over on the sand, quickly getting up. "I never cared much about your son, Shane. It's you that I wanted to get alone. And I knew
with all your security protecting you in your soft, comfortable office that this was the only way to do it. As for your wife, on the other hand, I'm afraid I don't intend to keep up that end of the bargain. She will suffer as you made mine suffer."

So Shane was right in his assumptions. Security surrounding him was too much to go by without a massive force, so this all was about luring him out of UNITY ... where he could be served on a plate. Through the blood on his face, Shane pierced his enemy with his stare and without further delay he attacked. He found it strange that Harker labeled Rangi as his wife, but paid no more attention to it.

Harker ducked as Shane threw another punch and quickly stepped out of the way. Delivering a bone-crunching kick to Shane's knee, he sent the SSF flag officer falling to the ground. Nicolas grabbed Shane by the shoulders and shoved him face-down into the sand, keeping him pinned down. He pressed his knee hard against Shane's spine. "If I push a little harder I can bruise your spine," he said. "Temporary paralysis; a little trick I learned in Rura Penthe. Come on, Guzman, fight back. You're tougher than this. At least put up a token show of resistance before I kill you again."

{Again?} Shane asked himself. He was quite puzzled about the strange hints Harker was giving away. The pain was very intense and he found just no power to resist any more. Being a flag officer had his disadvantages; spending the entire day behind a desk was among them. In a second he saw the image of Rangi tortured and Harker laughing maniacally. "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" he screamed and with almost unnatural strength he jerked and threw Harker off his balance. Using his legs again, he kicked Harker in his chin, hard.

Harker was taken by surprise at Shane's quick move and wiped away the blood from his chin. "I'm not the Harker you think you know, Guzman. That man died a long time ago. In the world I come from, you took my wife from me. You made me watch as you killed Samantha, made me watch the life leave her eyes. I swore I wouldn't stop before you were dead, all of you!"

Shane breathed hard and wiped the blood from his face once again. "What ... the ... hell ... are ... you talking ... about?" he asked while trying to catch his breath.

Nicolas spat the blood from his mouth. "There's so much you don't know, Guzman," he said, his tone suddenly calm and serious. "You've sat behind that desk of yours for too long. The world has changed all around you."

"I never killed Samantha" Shane replied. All his thought were focused on the little type I phaser concealed beneath his trousers. He kneeled down like feeling great pain and slowly moved his left hand to where the phaser was. He needed to distract Haker ... "it was YOU who killed her. You're a dammed traitor and murderer, Samantha died by YOUR hand!". Harker was eyeing Shane's face like wanting to see a prove there that Shane was lying. But Shane said the truth and with that, he got the three seconds he needed. He pulled the phaser and fired. He missed with the first shot, but the second was more accurate.

Harker was hit in his chest and with a cry he fell to the ground. A type I phaser was too weak to kill him instantly, but the wound was lethal none-the-less. Carefully, Shane approached the lying man.

"Damn you, Harker!" Shane cried – half in pain, half in relief. "What in burning hell you think you do?"

"When the time comes, they'll make you an offer to join them," he said harshly as he fell to his knees, clawing at the sand. Harker looked up at Shane one last time. "You can do great things, Guzman, great things. They are gods among us!" were his last words as he collapsed and took his final breath.

Slowly walking over to his combat armour, Shane took out the wristband tricoder and scanned Harker's body. He appeared to be dead finally, but Shane was far from ready to believe that. He tapped his badge and said: "Yellow, sickbay, 2 persons."

Within a second, both Shane and the dead body disappeared from the surface.

-------------------------
- Summaries (Rangi and Ixus)
-------------------------

Unity - Rangi

Rangi arrived on Detectors Bridge just as Chisulo received a
message from Giella stating that three Klingon vessels were
en route and suggesting that if Federation assistance was
requested too then the Romulans could be defeated. He told
rangi that it was more than likely Harker had taken Martin
to the planet to lure Shane there.
Rangi returned to her quarters and a fitful sleep but
returned again to the Bridge as the ship neared its
destination.
Meanwhile onboard SB Unity, Rojac applied pressure on
Mumacik by quoting regulations in an effort to have Davis
transferred into his custody.
The cloaked Detector  adopted a synchronous orbit with
Qashqai above the planet where Harker and Martin awaited
Shanes arrival. Harker kept to his agreement of releasing
the child who was soon beamed to safety aboard Qashqai but
insisted that as he was unarmed, Shane should be too. Not
entirely trusting his enemy, Shane removed the light combat
armour.

Chimera - Ixus

Cropa frees the new CSec Channer from incarceration on Unity despite the better instincts of Mumacik.  Back last October the then 1Lt. Anya Xerxes aboard the USS Chimera-B fought the Romulans at Charos VI although the events surrounding the battle may prove to be as significant as the battle itself.  Nine months later and fate conspires yet again to bring the people involved together again but for what reason?  Anya can only hope to find out before time runs out.  Jade and Gustav talk biological weapons countermeasures and hope they don't hear someone in the background say oops!

Anyone remember the film Alien?

The area was sore and slightly inflamed but the results

showed there would be no permanent effects and he reassured

her that the treatment he had given would suffice.

Commander Rangi 'Xenomorph' Summers

Vulcans don't do facial hair?

Mumacik turned around as someone entered the area. He saw a tall
human male, sharp eyed with a funny beard… wearing the rank of
(naval) Captain.

Lieutenant Mumacik 'Goatee?'

***************************************************

Chimera-B's canteen was rather terrible...

Shane allowed only a second to enjoy the presence of
his son. It was a miracle that the little boy 'adopted' him
as his father after all the horrors he has been through.

"And what fabulous job do I have next?  Body shield for a diplomat?
Rent boy?"  Scott answered harshly.

-------------------------
- Subject Lines
-------------------------
Please remember to use the following format for your subject lines:
SD 24YYMM.DD, Duty/Personal Log, Rank Name
e.g., SD 240502.01, CO's Log, Capt Rojac
e.g., SD 240502.01, Personal Log, Cropa Rojac
The [USS Chimera] part of the subject is placed automatically by the listserv, so you don't need to include it.
Also remember to include your details at the end of your log
e.g.,
Captain Cropa Rojac
Commanding Officer
USS Chimera NX 96899-B
-------------------------
- Logging Guidelines
-------------------------
Logging:
The weekly logging deadline is at Midnight (12:00AM/00:00) GMT/UTC (19:00 EST); all logs received after the deadline will be counted for the following week. If you are pressed for time and would like a log to count for the previous week, but it is sent after the deadline, please send an email to the command team when you send the log so that we can make the corrections.
Please remember that all MAJOR plot changes need to be cleared with the command staff before a log goes through! You can do this by sending the command staff (
chimera-command@ucip.org
) a log labeled with "Draft" tagged to the subject line. We'll typically let you know if it's approved within 24 to 48 hours, or tell you what might need to be modified before it's sent to the listserv.
When using other characters in your logs, please keep in mind that person's characteristics. Character information can be found on the UCIP website or the USS Chimera website (under CREW - just click on the Star Trek symbol next to the character's name). If you're still unsure how to interact with a character, then privately mail the person
involved, and I'm sure they'll be willing to help.
Conversely, if you feel that your character is being portrayed incorrectly by someone please contact them to try to work out an agreeable solution. Just keep in mind when logging to treat other characters the way you'd like them to treat you - with the respect due to any member of Starfleet who is a specialist in their field.
If you think your log may be going out of bounds, then please ask! If you are having problems finding things to write about or would just like some help with your log, please contact your department head or the command team. Remember, you don't always have to log about things relating to the main plot - logs that develop your character's
personality are encouraged! We're eager to help if you're having trouble; just email the command team (
chimera-command@ucip.org
).
