The breath that Commander Typhon exerted bubbled inside the liquid
environment of his hydration suit, and came out an audible hiss. The
Commander of the Katana-b class was taken by surprise by the scene
that awaited the Eagle as she carved through the nebulous interior of
the stellar nursery into the artificial pocket surrounding the Romulan
base - i you could call the akward structure a base.
The Eagle's XO seemed to have the same sentiment as the ship's
captain. "What kind of starbase is that?" asked Lieutenant Commander
Tu'loong, an andorian shen whose long white locks framed the angular
visage beneath.
"It is of unknown origin." The science officer, a vulcan lieutenant,
replied. "It's hull is composed of duranium and tritanium composites
laced with an unknown metallic substance. Our sensors are having
trouble penetrating to the interior."
"What about transporters? Can we get the away teams in?" Tu'loong asked.
The bajoran female at operations spoke up. "Their shields are still
down. It looks like I can put them in near those large areas on the
lateral positions of the ring."
"And the Chimera?" Typhon asked. He steepled his fingers as he awaited
the Tactical Officer's report.
"She is bearing down on the two scouts as bearing three-four-seven,
mark zero-nine-two. Their stealth shields have been disengaged." The
human male tapped rapidly on his console, sorting through the
streaming information. "Warbirds 2 and 4 re changing course to
intercept the Chimera. The cruisers are taking defensive positions
near the station."
"Helm take us in quick. Full impulse." Tu'loong ordered. "Ops prepare
the transporter."
Commander Typhon tapped his combadge. "Bridge to transporter room 1.
Away Team's prepare for immediate transport."
Richard stood up from his seat and stepped onto the transporter pads
along with the rest of his team, "Its about damn time", he joked, "I
thought they'd forgotten about us", he added. "Ok Lads, lets do what
we're trained to do." He said as he pulled his rifle off his back into
his hands and slung the ordinance satchel onto his back. "Cortez to
Commander Typhon, Demolition Team is ready and in position", looking
back towards his crew, "And remember, if you mess up I'll be there to
make sure that you don't have a good Christmas.".
Andrus grabbed his phaser rifle, powered it and set it to kill. He
tapped his backpack to make sure he had his gear, mentaly setting
himself for a firefight. The security team kneeled to allow a maximum
of people to fire upon arrival on the Romulan base. ''Not only we
won't mess up, sir. but we'll make sure they don't spend a good
Christmas'' He said. ''Or what ever holiday they enjoy.'' He muttered
to himself.
Dare entered the transporter room a few moments later. Her team
followed the Lieutenant Major closely. "The data retreival team is
ready for transport." Her voice was quiet and extremely calm. Her
expression was one of extreme concentration.
A panel on the wall came to life and displayed a real-time image of
the gate-like station. Commander Typhon's voice blared through the
room's public address system.
+Team one, you will be beamed to the port-side power generation
facility. Team two, you're going to starboard. Activate your stealth
fields, and emergency transport devices. Beam over in t-minus ten
seconds.+ a slight hiss from the ship captain's hydration suit bubbled
over the line.
"Aye", Cortez responded, "team one ready", he signaled to the engineer
manning the controls. Moments later he and his team were abord the
Romulian station.
[Bridge]
"Transport successful." The Ops Chief reported.
"Whoa!" The Tactical office reported. "My readings are going off the
chart, Captain."
"Science!" Tu'loong called, hopping gout of his chair.
The vulcan was stoic in his reply. "Stray graviton particles are being
detected, along with an alteration of the subspace micropore
structure. There seems to be an anomalous reading of the subspace
variance as well."
"That's great, but what does it mean?" Tu'loong asked, now standing
behind he vulcan science officer. "Is it a wormhole?"
"Similar, sir." The vulcan replied, "but the phase variance would
suggest it leads to an alternate dimension."
"Wherever it leads, I'm detecting multiple hostiles coming through.
Three thalaron cruisers, two d'deridex warbirds and four scout vessels
are earing down on the Chimera." The tactical officer reported.
"Should we go to Red Alert?"
"No." Typhon said quickly. "Hold position and maintain the stealth
plating. Ops, can you detect the away team?"
"No sir." The officer reported. "They have activated their stealth
fields. I am not detecting any alarms or transports on the station."
The Selkie commander leaned back in his chair. "Then we sit and wait.
Our responsibility is to pick-up the away teams to signal that they're
ready for transport. Captain Rojac's a big boy. He can handle a
flotilla. And the Rapier should be waiting in the nebula."
The andorian XO looked disappointed. "As you wish, Captain.
Maintaining code blue. Ops, full power to monitoring sensors."
"Aye sir."
Typhon steepled his fingers and laid them against the glass visor of
his hydration suit above his mouth. He may have to sit and wait, but
he doesn't have to like it.
