[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]
"Target's acquired." Levison called.
"We are in attack range, Captain." Dior confirmed.
"Fire!" Rojac ordered.
Levison's fingers hammered the panel before him, activating the weapons systems that the Captain had ordered fired. The deflector beneath the Chimera's saucer pulsed with energy, an energy that flared around the two incoming scout vessels and removing the shielding that protected them from enemy fire. Following this, Levison punched in commands to launch a spread of quantum torpedoes, the blue-white warheads flashing with quick succession from the starship's launchers.
The intervening distance in space was far too small for the scouts to evade and the unshielded vessels took a great deal of damage before they could veer off into evasive maneuvers.
"Heavy damage inflicted on both vessels... one has severely compromised engines and life support, the other we've taken their port weapons array offline, but they're still in the fight," Levison
responded, "Captain, there are two Romulan Warbirds on intercept, firing range in fifteen seconds!"
"That's the distraction." Rojac said, leaning forward in his chair. "Carpenter, where's the Eagle?"
"Good." Rojac said. "Helm hard to port. Mr. Vaughn boost dorsal shields. Levison, activate the point defense turrets and arm the lateral phaser arrays."
Ian started tapping away at his console adjusting the power flow from certain parts of the ship and having it flow into the dorsal shields. "Dorsal shields boosted 20%." Ian said continuing looking for more to give to the shields while not compromising other systems.
"Point defense turrets active and tracking," Levison responded, knowing that Commander Kilbain in the bowels of the vessel would be keeping a close eye on the system, ready for manual fire if it went down, "Lateral phasers, aye." Checking the console before him again, he grimaced as he reported grimly: "Incoming fighters sir... and warbirds are in firing range. One hell of a hornet's nest out there."
Walters pressed the panel on the arm of his chair opening a preassigned comm channel. "Lancer Squadron, Windhover Squadron, Sun God. Launch authorization is granted, good hunting." Even on the Bridge a roar could be heard as the AX-02 Lancers brought their engines to their full safe operating power.
"Ops," Rojac hollered at the Lieutenant manning the console, "assign the fighters to the incoming squadron. We'll handle the warbirds." He quickly turned back to the screen and grimaced as Lieutenant Dior executed a dizzying barrel roll in order to dodge an incoming array of disruptor blasts.
Ian nodded and made a quick message and sent it to the Wing CO hoping that she would get it he also made sure it contained coordinates that he got from helm. "Our fighters should intercept the Romulan fighters in seconds." Ian said returning to maintaining the power flow for all the systems that are being used and also keeping an eye the sensors.
"Shit!" The profanity escaped from her painted lips. "Brace for impact!" The talented helm officer dodged the first volley, but the second warbird had successfully predicted her flightpath - the Chimera was pegged on her dorsal shields. The structural integrity fields shuddered and the lights flickered slightly on the bridge. Luckily, Vaughn had boosted the dorsal shields.
"Report!" Rojac called to Walters.
"Minor power surge on Deck Ten caused a EPS Conduit to blow out. Damage to Transporter Room 4. Hull integrity is unaffected. Incoming reports of burned crewmembers, nine so far being moved to sickbay. Damage control teams have been notified and are en route." Walters confirmed.
The Captain swiveled over to face the CTac, "Commander, Sulu-Sigma".
As the Chimera swung up onto its port nacelle, Mike with a look of intense concentration locked target on the warbird that had just managed to damage the shields. Using his other hand, he hammered the torpedo controls sending a withering spread of quantum torpedoes at the enemy ship's engines. They struck unerringly, blasting through shields that had already been peppered with many phaser attacks from the starship. Flame erupted from the exploding propulsion systems at the rear of the green-hulled warbird before the entire vessel was engulfed in an expanding fireball.
To add to the small victory, the Chimera's auto-targeting pulse phasers had locked onto a passing scout ship as the ship completed its looping maneuver and sent a flurry of bright phaser bolts at it, striking the ship's core drive and detonating it. "Two enemy ships destroyed Captain. One D'Deridex and a scout down, only another ten or so to go."
A wide grin appeared on the pleased Captain's face. Levison was good, and the Captain finally had a tactical officer he could keep. "Next target!" He called.
"Sir I've just received confirmation away teams have made it onto the station." Ian said closing out the communication logs on his console going to give more power to weapons and shields seeing that they were going to need it as the battle continued. "Sir power flow to the sensors is faltering the stealth armor is drawing too much power." Ian said as read through the power flow reports.
Walters interrupted before Rojac could speak. "Reroute power from life support leaving just minimal levels. Also cut off power to these sections of the ship." He input the details into a padd and sent them to the ops console. The young Lieutenant had a moments hesitation looking round at him for a split second. "Those warbirds get a decent lock on us, breathing isn't going to be high up on the agenda..."

Walters got up from his chair and moved over to the science displays beside the new Deputy Science Chief. "The energy signatures are similar to something I've seen before but less refined and powerful. The phase variance is off too. It seems like it works on the same principles as what I saw but in a different manner. What I saw previously was a bizzarre method of FTL travel to move a ship but this is more like a tunnel...a new type of transwarp conduit maybe?"
"No, that's not it," Mercedes said to the XO and pointed at a new set of readings. "The ring is emitting a magneton pulse that's creating a subspace distortion. I'm picking up quantum variances through the distortion. It looks like they're trying to open a dimensional gate."
Turning towards Rojac, she added, "Captain, these readings match the operating mechanism of the transdimensional device."
The insistent and quite annoying beeping from Levison's tactical sensors caused the veteran Commander to glance across at the panel, his planned phaser assault on the second warbird forgotten momentarily. His eyes narrowed as he glanced down the new list of targets coming into view from the dimensional gate and he groaned, inwardly. "Sir... we have a serious problem. Three Thalaron cruisers are exiting the portal! They have further escorts as well! Two more D'Deridex Class warbirds and four more scouts!"
"Holy hell." Rojac whispered. A dimensional gate. Was this how the Romulans had made such advancements in the recent years, by recruiting from alternate universes? It would explain a lot. But how did they come across the dimensional devices? The Chimera had destroyed one, and another was held tightly at the R&D vaults on Earth.
Levison's console reported a new message once more, this time however from his communications panels rather than the sensors or weapons. "Captain... we are being hailed," Mike grimaced, looking directly at the Captain's chair and away from his panels for a moment.

"Bring it up on the main display Commander Levison." Walters said still in his business tone. His mind still partly on the readings from the dimension gate which looked all to similar to those created by a piece of tech salvaged from the ship buried beneath the surface of Charos VI. {Dimension Rippers} He thought with an involuntary shiver going up his spine.
