[USS Chimera] SD: 240812.11 Joint Log MCapt. Xerxes & Cmdr. Wellington

=/\= Corridors and a Lift =/\=
Athena had kept up with Anya as the senior staff made their way to various points of the ship to complete their tasks.  When fianlly it was just the two of them in the corridor, Athena reached out touching Anya's arm, "Anya... I really so need to do another evaluation."   Athena's look was apologetic since she knew it wasn't anyone's favorite thing to do.

Anya shrugged "Hardly your fault...besides you already know I'm nuts.  But do me one favour and can we skip the blob shape test.  Somehow nobody ever seems to like my answers for those...it did look like last Friday nights kebab revisited the next morning."
Athena smiled and stifled a laugh, "Deal.  How about you tell me what my new office looks like instead?"
"Sounds like a challenge...I'll try and be nice too.  So are we just going through the standard twenty questions or is it the more obscure things like word relation etcetera?" she glanced towards Athena awaiting a response.
"Well, I would use our shopping trip to do the eval from but for some reason I think the brass task masters would think it unprofessional, but I'll try not to be boring."  A short ride on the lift and a turn of the corner or two and then they were at Athena's office.  "Don't expect much," Athena said as she punch in the code to open the door.

"I wouldn't worry to much. I already got a health and safety lecture today for saying to my Pilots that if they did badly I would start issuing the drones with live ammunition for motivational purposes...apparently some people don't understand humour."  Anya entered the office. "Quite a bit smaller than the last one but that's understandable."
"Yes," Athena mused liking how the throw on the chair at least made the room feel welcoming.  She motioned to the chair and asked, "Would you like something to drink?"

 "I'll let you pick... tell me about the new fighters .... the new flyers .... or if being a Marine Captain come with too much bull  or all three."  Athena moved to the small replicator and got herself a glass of water.
 "All three then.  The new fighters are top notch but we haven't combat tested them yet and we don't know which parts wear out fastest.  The new pilots are all fairly experienced elite pilots although I don't know how they will interact yet...I may call on your experience for that one.  As for being a Captain it feels a bit odd to be back where I started..."   At the confused look she got Anya explained. "Captain was the last rank I held with the Alliance before coming here."
Athena took a sip of her water as she listened to Anya, raising an eyebrow at one of the comments as she sat down.  She nodded at the other woman's further explanation.  "I've done a couple of the evaluations on your pilots and there are a couple that will probably have to decide who's going to be the alpha male if you know what I mean."

"I know all too well. Chief pain in the arse is none other than my Squadron XO First Lieutenant David Lanner.  Problem is we have a bit of 'history', he's an excellent pilot but an arrogant bastard to boot...typical pilot attitude to be fair.  I walked in on him earlier telling the others that it should be 'Lanner's Lancers'.  Naturally I did point out my superior rank, experience and the fact I've beaten him in 5 out of 5 practice dogfights...he didn't seem to like that too much." Anya shook her head. "Good shag though."
"You might want to keep as much distance between him and  First Lieutenant Althea Navere.  Nice gal... seems to know her job but seems to have an eye for the men... but I don't think she'd hesitate to put one in his place or pit them against each other if it benefited her.  Mind you that's just a quick first impression of the word association I did make her do."  Athena smiled as she remembered the odd looks the lieutenant gave her when she gave her the word 'Cock'.  {I even had to add 'as in rooster' before she answered.}

 "Well you Betazeds are all fire and spirit but so long as those two are fighting between each other they aren't aiming for my job.  By the way, did you know that we run the two smallest departments on the ship?"  Anya said incredulously.
"I don't mind," Athena started, "it keeps me out of trouble."  She paused for awhile; while Anya gave her a pointed stare.  "Well.... rather it should," Athena finished with a sigh.
Well I wouldn't mind for my own department if it covered all the bases but instead we have personnel from all over the place.  My deck crew are from engineering, my armorers and ATC's are from tactical and my comms officers are from command.  They still obey my orders but what a pain in the butt if one of the other department heads has different ideas."  Anya scowled.
"You're smart... I'm sure you made provisions for that scenario," Athena stated.  Athena sighed and decided to bite the bullet, "And how have you been since meeting your grandmother?"  {The devil only know how much it comes to my mind.}

"Well I did do some checking. I ran a DNA check on her and it turned out she was in fact my Grandmother.  After I left she came after me and told me a few weird things about the Karaf coming back and there was one other thing that really freaked me out..."

Athena shiver involuntarily but didn't seem to notice as she asked, "And that was?"

Anya looked around nervously, got up and whispered quietly in Athena's ear "She knew about Prophet."
Athena held Anya's gaze but said nothing.  She took a drink of her water as she let her thoughts run through her head.  Finally she asked in hushed tones, "And how did both of you feel about her knowing?"  {I hope this doesn't put Anya in danger... I don't have too many friends that just get me and I'd imagine the same is true for her.}

"As I said freaked out...but from her manner of speech I think she got the information from someone else.  She wouldn't say more but said there was someone she wanted us to meet where she lives on Trill.  She wants me to go there next shore leave." Anya's scowl deepened.
Impulsively Athena responded, "Don't go alone ..... if you decide to go."

Anya responded calmly "I'll go but I will take someone else along...assuming I can pull a favour from a certain Ambassador when she returns."

Athena nodded with more than a bit of a relieved expression.  {I suppose I shouldn't be project my ill-at-ease feeling onto her.}  "I guess I should let you get back to work."

Anya sighed loudly "If you must. Though I may be needing a shedload of aspirine before the day is out...oh I do have a suggestion about your next shore leave...
"Yes...," Athena queried.

Go see the Hybrids, even if Viktor wont admit it they hold a lot of influence for him. You would do well to get on their good side."  Anya held Athena's gaze.
"I'll see what I can do," Athena said with a look that not only thanked but said a thousand other things.
