Gustav was in main engineering trying to get the ships vital systems
ready for the mission into the grand banks, this would be Gustav's
first task as the Chimera's acting CEO as Lt Cmdr Curtis Scardona had
been reassigned to participate on a classified mission.

There were three main systems that needed to be worked on Gustav had
assigned himself with the hardest of the three the warp core and
engines, Ensign Alan walker had been given the task of trying to
strengthen the shields and Ensign Jobes had been tasked with boosting
communication signal strength.

Gustav had appointed Alan as his acting DCEO as he knew that he was a
top class engineer and more importantly he trusted Walker to get the
job done properly, Jobes he wasn't so sure on as he didn't know her
very long when tasked with the modifications to the tachyon emitters
she had performed perfectly although quite slowly but he decided to
give her another job working with the comms systems as she should be
familiar with them.

As Gustav was working on installing extra shielding around the warp
core he remembered asking Capt Xerxes what to expect at the Grand
Banks, what she told him made his head hurt, special anomalies that
would screw with the warp core, massive electrical discharges and more
types of radiation than you could shake a stick at, basically an
engineers nightmare.

A loud bang brought Kroitzer's thoughts back to the present, he turned
around to see one of his cadets laying under a portable shield
emitter, he approached the cadet and lifted the emitter off of him, he
then held out his hand to help the young engineer up "are you alright"

"Fine sir" the cadet replied, "I'm sorry, I slipped and fell backwards
while I was carrying the…"

Gustav held up a hand to stop the cadet from carrying on "It's ok,
accidents happen but be more careful next time, portable shield
emitters aren't cheap… or easy to fix, check that it's undamaged and
put it into place" he asked.

After about 3 hours work all the emitters were in place ready to be
calibrated when his comms badge went off.

+taps+ "Walker to Kroitzer, that's the shields boosted as much as we
can get them, still won't be perfect though".

+taps+ "I understand report back to engineering and write up what
you've done, Kroitzer out".

Another two hours later the calibrations to the added shielding around
the warp core was finished, Gustav decided to take a seat in his
office to start writing his report to the captain about what
modifications had been made for the trip through the Grand Banks when
Jobes sent him the details of what she had done to the comms systems,
a signal gain boost of about 15%, yet again not great but better than
nothing.

He finished up the report and sent it to the Captain Gustav lent back
in his chair and took a deep breath thinking to himself that he could
do with something to eat, as he stood up from his chair he tapped his
badge.

+taps+ "Kroitzer to Hopeler, if your free would you like to meet me in
the mess hall for dinner.
