[USS Chimera] SD: 240903.19 Joint Personal Log Cdr.Rick Rodgers, LtCdr.MaiKai Rodgers, LtJg.Na

Rick laid quietly in bed with Mai wrapped in his arms. He was
surprised to find that he was a bit exhausted. Mai may be pregnant,
but she had considerable energy. Almost more than he could
handle, he thought. He smiled as he looked at her, with her eyes
closed.

Then there was a realization.

"Computer, time."

[The time is eleven hundred hours and thirty eight minutes]

"Oh, crap," he muttered.

Mai was wrestling with herself on whether she should get up now
or wait a while longer.  Mai noticed that her husband had woken
and he looked a bit flustered so she asked, "What is it?"

"Nanee expected to be here in about 22 minutes," Rick said as
he slid out of bed and began to put on his clothes. "I take care
of lunch."

He then leaned down after putting on his pants.

"You ..........," he kissed her on the forehead. "... you just take your time.
I have everything under control. If you not ready when she get here,
I stall."

"Ok..." Mai replied.  She had almost forgotten that her cousin was
coming to lunch.  Mai was also beginning to think that maybe Rick
was trying to take on more than what he could handle by running
around and doing everything possible for her.

He struggled to find his shirt. He looked all over the floor and under
the bed, but came up short.

"You see my shirt, honey?" he asked.

Mai smirked.  She had to rub her top lip against her bottom one to
quiet the laughter that was building up.  She reached under the
covers and felt around before gripping on what felt to be his shirt.

He took the shirt that Mai had pulled from underneath the blankets
and quickly slid it on.

"What you want for lunch?" he asked.

Thanks to her pregnancy, Mai had built up a bigger appetite and was
hungry more often than usual.  She took in consideration that she
didn't exactly finish breakfast either as she looked to the floor and
saw where the breakfast tray had crashed to the floor.  Mai was kind
of having a craving for pasta the more she thought about what she
wanted for lunch.  "Maybe lasagna with garlic bread and a side
salad...?" she suggested.  She really wasn't sure exactly what she
wanted.  She figured if she didn't like what they were having after all,
she could always plead with Rick to fix something else. Now Mai tried
to sit up in bed in order to set in motion the process of actually getting
out of bed to get dressed.

"Will do," he said, giving her another kiss before walking out of the
bedroom.

He had to replicate everything since he didn't have time to prepare
a 'proper' lunch. He liked to cook whenever he could, especially for
guests. But this time, a replicated meal would have to suffice. As
soon as he finished with the meal, he heard the chime of the door.

"Come in," he said as the door swished open and Nanee entered.

"Good to see you make it," he said, offering her a hand........ "Please
come in."

Nanee hesitantly took Rick's hand as she stepped inside their shared
quarters.  She was quite nervous.  So much in fact she had skipped
breakfast and wasn't sure she'd even be able to finish lunch here.
"Thank you..." she finally spoke timidly.

"Please have a seat. MaiKai will be out shortly," Rick said.

Nanee took a seat very slowly on the couch that Rick selected.  She
made sure to be very cautious due to the fact that her foolish actions
have been known to be catastrophic.

"I hope you like lasagna. If not, I can make you something else. It be
no problem."

"No, that sounds wonderful," true to form.  Like her cousin, that oddly
happens to be one of Nanee's favorites...

"What would you like to drink?" Rick asked.

Nanee didn't want to impose so she asked Rick for a water as she
wrestled with her hands in her lap.

"Water it is," he happily said as he poured some from a glass pitcher
and handed the glass to Nanee.

Then he went back to work on the meal.

Even though the salad was replicated and already tossed, for Rick
it was a matter of habit to toss it himself. Once done, he took a
seat in a chair next to the sofa

"I glad you made it," Rick said. "I not know many in Mai's side of
the family.
"

"Me too," Nanee smiled meekly.  She didn't want to get into any
conversation involving too much of family detail at the moment.

"Where you serve before coming here?" Rick asked.

She took a drink of her water before answering, "I worked as an
Assistant Medical Officer in charge of the Pulminary/Coronary Unit
of the Colonel Coppingfeld Infirmary in San Diego, California" she
managed to say more normally.  She was starting to feel more
relaxed.

"Interesting," Rick said. "Sounds like a good assignment."

"Yeah, I liked it there," she took another drink of her water still trying
to get the built up lump out of her throat.

"Is Chimera your first starship duty?" he asked.

Nanee nodded first, "Yes, it will be. I'm actually excited about it".

He leaned back in his chair.

"There nothing like it, that for sure," Rick said with a nod of his own.
"I sure you will do well there."

"Thank you," she smiled weekly and turned when she heard
footsteps.  Mai was working on her way into the room.

Rick stood and walked over to his wife.

"Lunch is ready whenever you are," he said. "What can I get you
to drink?"

"Nothing I can take in my state so... I guess water..." Mai realized
that she was somewhat bummed that people could enjoy luxuries
that she couldn't.  She was starting to feel needy yet again, "I want a
kiss too..."

"That I can do," he said before kissing Mai on her left cheek, then on
her lips.

After pouring her a glass of water, he led Mai to the sofa next to
Nanee.

"We can eat out here," he said as returned to where the food was,
leaving Mai and Nanee alone.

Nanee opened her mouth as if to say something after a moment's
of silence, but was amazed to find that MaiKai was reaching out
towards her.  They embraced in a hug that could've had Mai sobbing
on her cousin's shoulder, but she was trying to keep herself composed.

Nanee then broke down and said something first, "I've missed you".

"I've missed you too, really" Mai felt the need to be honest here and
now. Just because she despised some of her family members doesn't
mean she hates all of them. Nanee was one of the ones she could trust
and be around. Mai know, however, it would be in there both interest if
they had lost contact after being forced to not see each other during
adolescence.

Rick stood with food in hand and smiled at the reunion. He was
happy for both women, but especially for Mai. He didn't know how they
had previously felt about each other, but now understood.

"Lunch is served," Rick said, placing the food and dishes on the small
table in front of the sofa.

The women released each other, but continued to smile at one another.  Each looking on the verge of tears.  Mai grabbed onto Rick. She held his hand in hers as he took a seat next to her.  The family began to dine in.
