=/\= Aikman's Bar – Starbase Unity =/\=
Gustav was out himself tonight as Mimi was busy with one of the few
shifts that didn't line up with his, he was busy checking out some of
the bars on the station when he entered Aikman's bar, it looked a
little run down but the beer seemed good and clean and most
importantly the names where mostly unpronounceable which is always a
good sign in a beer.
He was just ordering his third pint of a lager that started with a W
and ended with a R but the middle of the name was gibberish to him
when someone sat next to him.
She looked at him with a grin "I believe I owe you a drink Leftenant.
I've come to pay the debt but if you say there's interest on it I may
have to kneecap you..."
Anya placed a bag on the bar "The pilot's made you up a recovery
package. There's a cap with 'The Man Who Thought He Could Fly' on it.
There's also a bottle of some generic booze in it along with some porn
mags donated by the guys although some may go beyond the pale."
Gustav looked in the bag and wondered if the pilots really did look at
some of the stuff in the mags, shaking his head a little he look at
the marine captain and said "well…umm… thanks" he also added while his
hand out "and could you with all due respect please not call me
Leftenant when I'm off duty my names Gustav or Gutz if you want but no
one has called me that since my academy days".
"Well I'm glad you know to keep the diplomatic bullshit to on duty.
You can call me Anya or Xerxes, whatever floats your boat whilst off
duty. Tell me Gustav...why'd they call you Gutz in the Academy? Did
you puke a lot?" Anya asked as she signalled to the barman that she
would pay for the lager and wanted a drink of her own.
Gustav chuckled a little but then replied, "Nah I didn't puke a lot,
just that I'm a bit of an anime fan and I guess I reminded some of my
class mates of one of the characters".
"And Xerxes what about you, you don't seem like the typical Starfleet
pilot, not as up yourself or as arrogant as most and believe me when I
tell you I've known a few pilots" he asked.
"I'm not Starfleet for a start. I'm former Erassian Alliance Military
and as such any arrogance I display has been earned through battle and
a good deal of bloodshed. If you're superstitious though, I'm what
you'd call a jinx. I survived the death of two squadrons and I'm
still going. My squadron however is going to last." Anya said her
frown deepening as the past came to the forefront of her mind. The
last sentence was said with a forceful determination.
Noticing the look on Anya's face Gustav decided to change the topic
"how are your new fighters doing".
"The fighters are performing to expectations...a few minor things to
work on but other than that okay. Other than that our major problem is
our lack of ability to hurt capital ships. Our weapons just aren't
created for fighter against capital ship use. What we need is an
Anti-Ship Missile and I need your help in creating one. "Anya said as
she fixed him with a stare.
Gustav stared back the marine captain, he wasn't used to people being
this forward with him, at least not in the middle of a crowded bar
"What sort of missile are you thinking about yield wise I mean" he
asked.
"Yield wise just short of a full size torpedo although you yourself
wouldn't have to worry about the warhead itself. I've got my armourers
and my lab techs working on that. The real problem lies in the
propulsion of the missile. The original intention was to use a Coil
Impulse Engine just like in my Lancers however they can't be decreased
in size any further than they already are. What I need is a small
sized engine with rapid acceleration. Think you can come up with one?"
Anya asked although she dropped her voice very low when she spoke of
the Coil Impulse Engine even though just the name didn't give away any
of the information behind how it worked.
"Don't see why not, I'll look into it ASAP, but not tonight, to night
I'm out to have a good drink, your free to join me for the rest of the
night if you want?" Gustav answered and asked at the same time.
"Well I wasn't expecting you to start work straight away. You may as
well come and meet the rest of my pilots they're drinking down at a
bar called The Falcon's Nest. You can even ask my XO exactly why he
had a copy of Granny Spankers in the first place!" Anya said.
"I might well take you up on that offer Anya" he said while finishing
his drink, adding "lead the way".
