<<OOC ... logging the battle from the Romulan view. :-) >>
======= Bridge, RIS S'Task, 10th Fleet
Command ship =====
Khre'Riov Gaalen was nesting in his high command seat in
the center area of his fleet command Warbird ... S'Task
(Elemental of Space). He left the battle of Charos IV one
hour before the cursed Erassian 2nd fleet teared his little
task force apart. Accompanied by two Rei'Krannsu troop
transport ships, Gaalen hurried to SB 234 to assume command
over the attacking fleet.
In his absence the fleet was under command of a Tal'shiar
erie'Ssiebb (Sub-Colonel) ... who was a powerful man,
skilled Intel leader and treacherous enemy, but his tactical
abilities were only meager ... during the first stages of
the battle, the kill ratio dropped to 1:3 in Starfleet's
favor. Considering the fact that the fleet consisted on 50
Warbirds (with full fighter supplement) and the enemy had
only 13 ships and 1 star base ... it was a terrible outcome.
Arriving at the battle site (under the protection of the
cloaking system), Gaalen immediately started to review the
tactical situation. It was obvious {how is it that the fool
of Tal'Shiar erie'Ssiebb did not notice?} that Starfleet
ships were using a simple strategy of fragmenting te
battlefield and dragging as many Warbirds as possible into a
catch-me-if-you-can game, where the Romulan fleet took most
beatings.
Starfleet officers had no honor ... at least not in the
sense of a true Rihannsu soldier ... but Gaalen had to admit
that they have wits and experience as well as the courage to
sacrifice themselves for the good of others. If self
destruction was the only alternative (to a defeat), they did
not hesitate and choose so.
The Romulan fleet had a couple of nasty surprises ... thanks
to the Imperial R&D ... but till now used little to none of
them. Devices like ...Shield inversion beam, Myotronic
inhibitor, cloaked torpedo ... all were deadly and possed an
element of surprise, since they were rarely used in combat
before.
For now, Gaalen had to neutralize the biggest thread to his
own ships ... the Chimera and Manticore. Both ships were
damaged, but offered highly effective resistance and both
ships together disabled already five Romulan ships.
"Orders" erie'Ssiebb called. "I want a stealth ship
to shadow both the Chimera and Manticore, using the shield
inversion beam to disable their shields. Once their shields
are down, both ships need to be boarded." He regretted
that he had only a hand full of Rei'Krannsu elite soldiers
left and he had to deploy common Gai'shian (Marines) to
act as boarding parties. "Seize sensitive areas of both
ships and kill as many as possible. Hold those areas until
we are victorious! Three Warbirds will be assigned to each
of this ships and bite and tear tem until they are
destroyed!"
The Khre'Riov had vague knowledge that Tal'shiar had own
plans and devices to deal with the Federation biggest ships,
but he knew too little to rely on their help.
Gaalen checked then the status of the sensor jammer network.
It was deployed at the very begin of the battle ... too late
for the Star base to call for help, but early enough to hide
the scene of the battle from long range sensor of all kinds
and effectively jamming all long range communication. Seeing
that the network was still untouched and working at peak
efficiency, e turned to other things that needed his
attention.
The negative on the jammer network was that it limited even
Romulan ship's to scan beyond short range, so they could
not see what reinforcements (if any) were heading towards SB
234. Tal'shiar insisted that the appearance of Erassian
forces was almost impossible ... thanks to the long story of
mistrust and fear (fuelled by Tal'shiar agents on both
sides) and the still unsigned MDP treaty between the
Alliance and Federation.
On the main screen, for a short time there was an Akira
class ship visible. It was chased by a D'Deridex Warbird,
but it was not the chase that got Gaalen's attention, but
the name of the Federation ship. Gaalen always laughed about
the silly habit of painting ship's names on the ship hull
and now he was quite surprised to see < USS. D'A > on the
hull. {DA?} Gaalen asked himself. He knew that Starfleet
used sometimes very silly names for their ship ... like the
USS Lollypop ... what was literary a it of candy (until she
melted away in a sun-goes-nova accident a year back) ... but
'DA' was really silly.
"Then I want five ships with enhanced cloak taking
position around the Star base and start bombarding it. Use
cloaked torpedoes first ... what they don't see, they
can't hit. If all torpedoes are spend ... use regular
plasma ones, but I want the station's shields down.
Don't destroy the station, but board it ... we shall make
the station to our fleet HQ after the battle!"
As far other Starfleet capital ships were concerned, Gaalen
had an ace more in his sleeve. "launch the myotronic
inhibitors!" he ordered, "one device for every single
Starfleet ship in the vincinity. Once their phasers and
torpedoes are rendered useless, destroy them without any
mercy. Starfleet shall learn the heat of Rihannsu wrath!"
