Rick sat behind a console, trying to avoid being shot by the Romulans.
Whenever he would try to work on the impulse controls, the Romulans
would fire at him, forcing the CEO to take cover. So, whatever he would
accomplish, he would have to start from the beginning.
He was upset for not being able to keep the engines and shields up, but
he was even more pissed at the Romulan boarding party for making his
job that much more difficult.
The security detail that was assigned to engineering was doing their best
to keep the Romulans from advancing any further, but they looked to
Rick like they were beginning to become overwhelmed.
'That's all we need,' Rick thought as he attempted another go at the
console, only to be forced back into his previous position.
"Damn it," Rick muttered, slamming his fist back against the console.
He then saw one of his engineers hit by a disruptor blast and fall to the
deck. Rick rushed over and tried to drag her to safety. She was screaming
in pain before she died in Rick's arms. He closed his eyes for a moment
before he laid her head gently onto the the deck.
Crewman Amanda Goldstein was no more than 20 years-old, but had
already served on the Chimera for over a year. So he knew her well
enough to know of her family back home and some of her interests.
He also knew her well enough to know that she was too young to die.
He crawled to the console she was trying to work on. She had been
attempting to get the shields back up, even though she hadn't been
ordered to. Before he could see how far she had gotten, the console was
directly hit, destroying it and forcing Rick to fall hard onto to the deck.
He felt a daze, but regained his senses.
Rick realized that they would be overtaken in a matter of minutes, so he
had to pull his people out of here. He, though, would stick around to see
what he could do here.
+tap+ "Rodgers to Kroitzer, I'm transferring all impulse and shield controls
to the upper engineering consoles. Take control from there. Rodgers out!"
Rick then ordered his people to fall back to the upper engineering
level, where the Romulans had yet to strike. Once his people had fled,
he leaned back and took a deep breath.
