"You and your pessimistic attitude..." Lindsay voiced after a long silent pod ride and landing.
"I don't know what you're talking about..." MaiKai mumbled as she tried to get her safety restraints unbuckled.
"Oh-," Lindsay just gritted her teeth before she could finish that thought out loud. Then started back up again with, "What I meant to say was, I don't know how you can call yourself a doctor if you don't have any glimmer of hope in you". She raised her voice a little as she also was now struggling with her restraint mechanism.
"Easy. I do what I can and move on. That's all we can do," Mai responded flatly.
Lindsay shook her head and muttered, "Unbelievable". She was really starting to get frustrated obviously with Mai, but now also with the seat belt-thingy as well as she jiggled it a little roughly looking down hoping it would just 'pop'. "How do you not have any feelings for them?" Lindsay asked.
"I do," Mai said adamantly, "I just don't know most of my patients on a personal level and so I don't feel the need to get emotionally attached".
Lindsay protested, "I think it's just a front you put up and not just directed for your patients..." Lindsay let the those words linger a second before she continued, "You do it with your fellow crew men as well and me and even Rick. Honestly, you even hold back with your own child".
MaiKai's seat was closest to the escape pod door. She was the first one to get her safety harness undone. "Whew..." she sighed as she felt more at ease and less confined. "How do you know that?" Mai asked after she was let loose.
"You were mumbling when you fell asleep in your office. Something about how Rachel had never seen you cry and the day she did she was shocked because she thought she had the only mom that never cried..." Lindsay's voice trailed off.
"I just believe and needing to be strong for your children," Mai quickly responded. She shifted in her seat. She hated when Lindsay pressed issues. It made her feel really uncomfortable. Mai knew Lindsay was just trying to get to the root problems, like all the things that happened before going off to the academy.
"You know Mai - I'm going to need a little more heavy duty style of some foot wear for all your bullshit I'm about to be standing in," Lindsay knew that would get Mai's attention. The CMO hated when people got a smart mouth with her.
Mai just glared at her like ' I will set you ablaze with my eyes' type of look. "Whatever...."
Finally Lindsay's restraints came undone a bit unlike Mai's: more forcefully. It knocked Lindsay up and out of her seat and into Mai and somehow they both pushed the button or whatever technical mechanism that allows exiting out of the escape pods. They both were now out of the escape pod.
MaiKai spoke first. "Could you remove your knee from my throat," Mai asked Lindsay sarcastically which is hard to do when there's so much pressure on your vocal chords making you strained and in pain.
"I'll do that once you remove your elbow from my rib cage," Lindsay retorted through gasps for air.
They both knew that this was going to be a long day. When they got untangled they made plans to find the makeshift base; if there was one yet. Hopefully it wasn't too far off from where they were.
