======= Main OPS, SB 234: UNITY
======
It was not a custom, but Shane was sitting in the high seat
that was rightfully his … command seat of SB 234: UNITY.
He was usually too busy with Task Force business to take
care of daily UNITY business and this seat was manned by the
three officers of the watch … or Colonel DuPont.
But today, Shane made an exception and spend a shift in the
main ops. Yesterday, his team recorded a broadcast message
and it was time to send it. It was addressed to everyone on
the base and made several things that were already reality
… officially.
Looking at the officer behind the ops console, Shane asked:
"Are we ready?"
Some young LtJg replied: "Yes, Commodore. The message is
ready to be broadcasted on all stations monitors and
computer panels, inclusive all big screen panels on the
promenade decks."
Shane nodded and send: "Start it".
Within a few seconds, everywhere on the station the face of
Commodore Shane Guzman appeared saying:
"Ladies and gentleman, officers and crew, inhabitants of
SB UNITY and dear guests … I'd like to inform you all
about the current situation on Starbase 234: UNITY. As most
of you are aware, this station is since a few months under
Starfleet Special Forces jurisdiction and my command. This
months were used to strengthen the defensive capabilities of
this station and several other Engineering adjustments. I
say nothing new … we are at war with the Romulan Empire
and UNITY is the command node for all Starfleet operations
in this sector. Our position is of great strategical value
and so is this station."
Shane paused before continuing:
"You have surely noticed that there is a lot more military
traffic on the base and this wont change for the duration of
this conflict, but I'd like to stress that UNITY in NOT an
military outpost, but a public open starbase that welcomes
business and trade from all the quadrant. Every ship docking
on the UNITY will be carefully scanned and when needed,
searched by a security team, but I say reassure you, unless
you are Romulan or transport forbidden goods, weapons or
explosives … you will be allowed to dock and enter this
starbase. This station needs trade … Federation needs
trade and all business man, woman and business-creatures are
welcome"
There was a second pause:
"With Special Forces jurisdiction come some restrictions
however. UNITY is divided into three distinct sections. The
first one … with deck numbers and IDs painted in green is
publicly accessible and under watch of Promedade security.
Everyone might freely enter this zone and enjoy the
pleasantries of this station. The second zone, with
paintings in blue, is Starfleet zone … only Starfleet
personnel is authorized to enter here. This zone is under
watch of Starbase security. Unauthorized visitors will be
escorted out of the area immediately. The third area is
Special Forces zone and only accessible to special forces
personnel. I'd like to warn everyone that unauthorized
access to this area means immediate arrest. We are @ war and
the Task Force area is under martial law and watched by Task
Force security forces. Color used in this decks is gray. You
might find exact deck listing with zones @ every computer
panel."
Now came the third pause:
"Thank you for your time and I hope all of you will enjoy
your time on Starbase 234: UNITY"
With that, all screens went black, before returning to their
usual state and function. Shane grinned slightly in his
seat. He was not a big speaker, but from time to time, the
need for a speech arose and he had to do his best. The
results were often quite doubtfully … but there were
usually few to complain.
