====== Explosives cargo bay three, Military
area, SB 234: UNITY ======
Three security guards stood in front of a closed (and
sealed) door. Behind them was a large room, containing tons
of explosives – used in ground combat, demolition and
special purposes. It was one of the military supply cargo
rooms on UNITY, filled shortly after the arrival of SSF MEF.
General Sharpe and a most of his troops left the station to
take part on the MAGNA operation, but most supplies stayed
on UNITY. Those most valuable were in keeping of MEF
logistic personnel, but cause the lack of cargo space in MEF
assigned area, some of the supplies had to be stored outside
– under UNITY security guard.
That was the case of explosives cargo bay three and the fate
of three security officers was to guard the cargo bay during
the gamma shift – most boring shift at all. Secure in
their watching station, they were telling stories and beaten
the time.
Suddenly a couple of marines approached the watching
station, wearing a bored expression on their face. "Hey
guys, anyone home?!" called one of the marines, wearing the
rank of Corporal.
Specialist Connor, in charge of the small security team,
walked towards the two marines saying: "Sure thing lads,
what can I do for ya?"
"Bah," replied the Corporal, "we're here to collect several
ordinance packages"
"What? Now?" asked Connor.
The Marine shrugged: "Yup. Gotta orders from the Sarge, so
we're here."
Specialist Connor nodded and stretched his hand to get the
PADD. The marine handed the orders over and said: "Dunno,
who made up the mind to get those toys at this hour, but the
Sarge said 'now'"
Looking at the PADD containing orders, Connor frowned: "Hmm,
those orders come from USS Titan's CO three days ago, but
the Titan isn't on UNITY anymore"
The marine shrugged: "Not my soup, lad. That's what the
Sarge gave us. You're supposed to give us the stuff"
"What's up Mike?" asked the second security guard who walked
toward the group.
"The guys here have orders that are quite outdated" replied
Specialist Mike Connor.
The other security guard looked at the PADD and shrugged:
"Ah come on, Mike, those orders are valid, signed by Titan's
CO, so why bothering about it. Just give the lads their
gear"
The two marines said nothing, just nodded.
But Connor was not that convinced: "We better call the
Chief" he said at last, "let's have him worry about those
orders".
Again, the two marines said nothing, just looked bored.
It was the other security guard who said: "Do you really
want to drag the cold fish Mumacik here? With his entire
sticking-stick-to-rules attitude? He will probably think us
some procedure and will have stick us here for 2 more
hours."
"Shhh," Mike replied, "you know Mumacik. He will throw us in
the brig if we wont handle it strict to rules. You know ...
he pissed of General Sharpe and half of his senior staff and
when old Guzman isn't on the station, there isn't anyone
to stop him".
One of the marines said: "What's the matter? We do not have
all night for this. The Sarge will cut our ears and suns dry
them if we won't be back soon."
It was visible that Specialist Mike Connor was not
convinced. On the other hand, the last thing he needed was
the Chief of Fleet Security. Shaking his head finally he
said: "No, let's call the boss. You have to wait guys ..."
====== Some later ======
Lieutenant Mumacik, Chief of Fleet level security walked
down the corridor leading to explosives cargo bay three –
followed by a four member security team. It was handy to
have some support at hand ... and Mumacik knew how often the
support was necessary when dealing with drunken Starfleet or
marine guys.
"I am Lieutenant Mumacik, Chief of Fleet level security" he
introduced himself once arriving in front of the cargo bay.
Looking at the five gathered officers, he expected the two
marines to identify themselves.
"Corporal Mark Harrison, Support Company Alpha" said the 1st
marine.
Mumacik nodded and stretched his hand for the PADD. It was
given to him and he examined it carefully. Like before
Connor, Mumacik shook his head as well: "I am sorry,
Corporal. Your orders are correct, but since USS Titan left
Star base UNITY three days ago, we can not verify them at
the moment. Until your orders can be confirmed by CO of USS
Titan, we can not transfer the requested equipment"
Now Mark Harrison seemed to be quite pissed: "With all
respect, sir," he started, "we have clear orders and that
equipment is needed right now. There is no time to confirm
orders and I am sure that the Brigadier won't be happy about
this. He will contact your superior officer right in the
morning"
Mumacik, true to his nature, just shook his head and
repeated his answer: "I am sorry, Corporal. Your orders are
correct, but since USS Titan left Star base UNITY three days
ago, we can not verify them at the moment. Until your orders
can be confirmed by CO of USS Titan, we can not transfer the
requested equipment" As he spoke, his fingers ran through
the PADD's controls and he said: "Corporal Mark Harrison,
you are not listed on Support Company Alpha's actual roster.
Can you please explain this?"
Mark shrugged: "I dunno, sir. I was transferred here with
the rest of Support Company Alpha, never checked the roster
actually". His face was a muster for innocence.
Cold Fish Mumacik reacted as expected: " Corporal Mark
Harrison, until your identity can be confirmed, I am forced
to arrest you and call MEF's Military Police to take you
into custody". The four guard coming along with Mumacik knew
their trade and started to move – to spread out in case of
trouble.
"Akhae denebhan'ahlh" [back off Denebian slime devil] said
the other marine as one of the security guards approached
him. "Hna'h!" [Go!] he called towards the other marine.
Corporal Mark Harrison – a disguised Romulan terrorist
pulled three small items out of his belt pocket. With high
speed he plugged them together and called: "Kholairlh-a
deleth mnevher" [Elements protect us!]
A loud explosion shook the entire deck.
