[USS Chimera] SD 240910.30 || BRAVO || Bridge JL || "Closing the door" ||

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC96899-C]

Walters entered the Bridge from the corridor.  "Leftenant Vaughn scan through all frequencies till you find a match with that of the detonator that the Security team set up.  Commander Levison load all torpedo tubes with Quantum Torpedoes just in case the explosives don't do the trick."

"It's going to take me a few minuets to get a signal match but even then no guarantees." Ian said moving his fingers as fast as they could move running through tons of frequencies trying to find the right one. The issue he was having that there was too many and it would take to long to write a program to find the right one.

The doors to the bridge hissed to the side and a very hurried looking Cropa Rojac strode up to the center seat. "Belay that order, Lieutenant Vaughn. Time is no longer on our side." He threw a finger to Commander Levison at tactical. "Commander, target all essential systems on that gate with our best stock, on the double."

"With pleasure, Captain," Levison nodded, his hands a flurry of motion, locking those weapons systems still available to him onto the enemy gate. He lined up volleys of phaser fire and salvos of torpedoes aimed at the most vital points on the dimensional gate in preparation for its destruction, patching in a feed from his console to Kilbain in the Tactical Centre to ensure his targeting formulae were correct.

"Mind if I ask why the timetable was moved up Captain?"  Walters asked although he had a fair suspicion why.  If the EAS Samson was 30 years in advance of current technology their sensors would be hellishly accurate...unless they had simply taken the precaution of dropping a probe behind them on their way through the gate.

"Something's coming through." Rojac replied, taking his seat and gripping the armrests. "And we need to close that door."

[Bridge - Central Core - EAS Samson]

The Erassian transporters had dropped them just down the hallway from where the Bridge was situated.  Nikolai led the way to the bridge.  He spoke without turning.  "So why did you volunteer to come along Major Xerxes?"

Anya replied immediately but in a relatively quiet voice "I've seen visions of the enemy time and again.  I think it's finally time I look death in the face...I want to see what the Karaf look like in the flesh."

"I said it was a Romulan Heavy War Cruiser coming through the gate." Nikolai said in return.

Anya allowed herself a smile.  "Your words said it was a Romulan Heavy War Cruiser.  Your eyes said otherwise.  I saw fear there and not just the type that prompts a shiver up your spine but real genuine fear." They entered the door to the Bridge and Anya announced loudly.  "Bring the Karaf ship up on screen, I want to see what we're up against."

The crew looked shocked at the sight of her but they responded "Yes, Colonel Xerxes!" and put the ship on screen.

Nikolai scowled slightly at his crew's obedience to her but he couldn't blame them.  Here was a genuine legend of the Alliance alive in the flesh after her death three years ago looking younger and fitter than he had ever seen her but still every bit the hardened war veteran and high level strategist.  Nikolai had to admit it was a bit like being a child again in her presence.  In a nostalgic thought he remembered having a crush on Anya in his youth.  Still business came first.  "Major Holtzman, bring Omega Reactor to full and deploy the main gun.  Let's give this Karaf bastard a reason to flinch."

"Aye Colonel" was the swift response from his XO.  In response the power levels were brought up exponentially and the forward half of the EAS Samson began to split apart.

[Bridge - Deck One - USS Chimera NCC96899-C]

From the Science station Mercedes called "Captain, picking up excessive omega radiation spike coming from the Samson.  Energy appears to be building up towards the forward part of the Samson."

"An Omega Reactor.  Bloody hell I never thought they would finish it. Thats one hell of a power source, even for a Fury Cannon of that size."  Walters said as the Samson's forward half locked into place and brilliant trails of  lightning like energy trailed between the four outer arms and the central spire glowing brighter and brighter.

Rojac watched as the gargantuan ship poured its arsenal of lethal energy in to the opening orifice in the center of the gate. The energy readings spiked on his readouts beyond the sensor instruments capacity so extreme was the massive pulse from Ivanov's vessel. Much more than needed to destroy one Romulan War Cruiser, he thought. One shot from that could likely erase an entire planet, it was hard to imagine nything being capable of surviving such brute force. Had the borg really evolved that much?

"Weapons locked, sir," Levison reported at last, the final corrections and adjustments made by his Tactical staff. He was still marginally stunned by the sheer firepower of the Samson, but was glad of its presence; Chimera did not have nearly enough punch on her own, particularly after the combat she'd been in.

"Fire!" Rojac ordered.

Levison fingered the firing toggle and a frenzied assault of energy and fire burst from the Chimera's every remaining weapons bank. Torpedoes flew from the ship's launchers, angry red and bright blue-white whilst the carving lashes of directed energy beams joined them in their quest to annihilate the structure before the starship.

"Captain!" Montesque, the French communications officer called. "I'm picking up the Rapier, she has arrived with Klingon reinforcements!"

"Well don't just stand there!" Rojac shouted over the commotion. His eyes flashed in agitation. "Tell Natalia to get her phasers on that damn gate, Lieutenant!"

"Aye sir!"

Ian was just keeping an eye on everything and was in awe of the power output of the EAS Samson thinking to himself what he could do with that amount of power. Looking around the bridge he hoped no one notice him drooling at the readings he was receiving.

The USS Rapier and her Klingon patrol contingent moved in on a circular pattern around the gate - phaser disruptors and torpedoes blaring from their launch points. Stress fractures appeared on the ring emitting the dimensional gate. Electricity sparked and fizzled into open space as large chunks floated away, severed from the station.

"The gate's structural integrity is at critical failure." Carpenter reported from science. "The gate is failing!"

"Dior," Rojac ordered, "Take us out of the blast radius."

"Aye sir!" She replied.

Chimera swiveled on it's axis, taking a course behind the Samson as the Romulan Gate crumbled beneath its own mass. The dimensional gate fizzled, sparked, an eventually disappeared as the upper arch collapsed and floated off into empty space. Stray figures could be seen floating amongst the debris.

Rojac took a deep breath as he surveyed the scene on the viewscreen before him. The mission was finally accomplished. The Romulan Gate was destroyed, though at a great cost. The USS Eagle had gone down with all hands, two of his marines were dead and his port impulse engine was destroyed. He had nearly lost his ship, and he would have had it not been for the arrival of Colonel Nikolai Ivanov and the EAS Samson. That arrival presented its own challenges as well. With the amount of technology and firepower on that ship, tensions between the Erassian and the Federation could increase. The technology possessed on the Samson would erase the 20 year gap between the two empires that the Federation had advantaged from for nearly a century.

"Major," Rojac said quietly, "stand down Red Alert. Dismiss Alpha and Beta shifts. Call delta and gamma to duty stations to begin salvage operations. We're done here."
