"Lancer One to Reaper Wing. Permission to open fire has been granted.
Use long range missile fire to take down as may of those defence
fighters as possible. Show no mercy to these dogs before you."
Anya's voice came out over the comm of all the fighters in her wing
and presumably to the enemy fighters too. This one broadcast was made
on an open channel deliberately.
The six enemy squadrons moved in an organised and thought out response
to Anya's two squadrons entering the system and the broadcast. Only
two squadrons of Valkyries moved in to intercept Anya's Squadrons,
equal numbers. A less experienced group would have tried to rush them
en mass but in the close confines of a furball that tended to lead to
the numerically superior side taking casualties from friendly fire.
No, this group was smart and definitely experienced. Anya figured
these were the pilots from the Special Forces that had defected with
Colonel Vernier and a few experienced mercenaries that had been added
over time.
From far in the rear, likely beyond the enemy's detection range was
Reaper Wing's I-210 Amaterasu AWACS coordinating all the sensor and
positional data from all of Reaper Wing's craft into the PUPPETMASTER
control system which in turn programmed the weapons of the AX-02
Lancers and M-35A's.
The twelve AX-02 Lancers of Lancer Squadron fired off a volley of 4
Quantum B3 Missiles each which streaked towards the two approaching
squadrons of enemy Valkyries. A couple of seconds later the twelve
M-35A's of Windhover Squadron fired off a volley of 8 Type 9 (CF)
Verteron AAMs each. The 48 Quantum B3 Missiles streaked in towards
their intended targets relying on normal sensor locks on the two
squadrons of enemy Valkyries some missiles hit others didn't. The
real hammerblow fell upon the enemy when the 96 Type 9 (CF) Verteron
AAMs from the M-35A's arrived on guidance from Sun God the I-210
Amaterasu rather than active sensor locks meaning while the two
squadrons of Valkyrie's were busy dodging the initial volly they
didn't notice the devastating second volly which was already adjusted
for the in progress evasive manoeuvres. Even veteran pilots couldn't
avoid this onslaught of destruction in the nimble Valkyries this was
state of the art electronic warfare brought to the frontlines.
With the immediate threat dealt with, Lancer Squadron and Windhover
Squadron split and each bracketed two squadrons of Warhammers each.
Anya flipped her comms to Reaper Wing's encrypted channel. "You ready
Joe?"
"As I'll ever be Stormchild." Erassian Captain Joe Reynolds answered.
"On the count of 3, 2, 1...Mark!"
On that Anya and Joe altered their transponders to display their true
locations. 'Lancer One - Capt. Joe Reynolds - Stormforce' and
'Windhover One - Maj. Anya Xerxes - Stormchild'. Behind the control
stick of the heavily armed M35-A (AX-01 Broadsword) Anya grinned and
broadcasted over the comms to her Reaper Wing the signal for proper
combat to begin "Party Time, Everybody Dance!". She flew her M-35A
into a corkscrew attack pattern and pulled the trigger on the control
stick unleashing the vicious A1.3G Arclight Plasma Cannon...
