= Omega System - USS Chimera - Main Bridge =
Bren Ohmsford sat at the helm controls of the new Chimera and waited
patiently for Bragg to give them the all clear to depart. To his left
sat Lieutenant Reese at the Ops station, tapping at her console as she
double-checked all the ship's systems before the departed. Lieutenant
Kroitzer was in Engineering keeping an eye on the systems from there
to make sure everything went smoothly during their journey to Unity.
The warp flight test had been a success and all remaining issues had
been sorted out, which was a big relief to everyone. There were many
things that could go wrong with a new ship, especially one like the
Chimera which was rushed into post-production. She was previously
christened as the USS Millenium, a prototype ship for new experimental
tactical technologies. But the paint had hardly dried on the
Millenium's registry when the project was cut short and she was
rechristened to Chimera.
"Sir, Bragg reports we are clear to depart," Reese said, looking towards Bren.
"Brilliant," Bren said as he cracked his knuckles, took a deep breathe
and put his hands on the helm controls. "Sayonara, Bragg." The Century
class ship eased forward out of the drydock structure where it had
spent the last few months and moved away from the shipyard complex.
"Bringing her up to full impulse," he said as he gently increased the
speed of the Chimera. The ship responded beautifully as it did with
the warp flight test and Bren was glad it hadn't just been a fluke or
a stroke of engineer's luck.
"All systems are normal, sir," Reese reported.
"Good," Bren nodded before he tapped his commbadge. "Ohmsford to
Kroitzer. Standby to engage warp."
"Standing by, sir," came Gustav's reply.
"Unity, here we come," Bren muttered under his breath as he engaged
the warp drive. As the subspace bubble formed around the ship, she was
propelled forward and disappeared with a flash from the Omega System.
