Anya led the First Flight of Lancer Squadron into an escort position for Ghost Flight who had decloaked once out of the range of the sensor station.  "Lancer One to Ghost One.  Find anything of interest out there today?"

The female voice of First Lieutenant Angelica Yueh replied quickly through the preassigned short range frequency. "Negative Lancer One, all we found were a few radiation traces possibly from Romulan Disruptor fire or discharges from an impulse engine on a warbird or possibly two at most.  To be honest with our sensor capabilities we couldn't really have found out much more even if it was there to find.  We weren't exactly built for scouting missions."

"I'm aware of the limitations in the sensors Ghost One, that was why we brought along Sun God as well.  Their readings seem to indicate much the same as yours, two warbirds and possibly some fighters as well.  The reason I sent you in was to see how they were behaving around the station itself.  The fact they were remaining cloaked even in close proximity to the station indicates that they are being cautious which more than likely that means an ambush but with only two warbirds...possibly a test." Anya mused.

Anya switched her frequency to that for the whole unit though the effective range on the transmission was still extremely short...all the better for avoiding being intercepted by a Romulan Listening Post.  "All fighters form up escort positions and RTB.  Upon return maintain active state of readiness and Ghost Flight I want you to switch payload to a B1 Loadout, Lancer Squadron stay with the A2 Loadout and Sun God set your systems for active data link control.  Make no mistakes people next time we're going into a direct combat situation and I won't class it as a success unless every single one of you makes it back alive and intact...the paperwork for a KIA is a bitch do you get me?"

There was a chorus of "Aye Captain" from the assorted fighters that made up her unit along with a round of chuckles that made Anya grin behind the visor of her helmet.  Whilst that may not have been the ultra formal discipline that the XO may have demanded at the senior staff briefing it was what suited Anya's command style best and especially an elite unit like the one she was in charge of, her pilots didn't need to be treated like unruly school children.  Whilst they spoke without much formality these weren't green rookies but battle hardened veterans who had high self discipline keeping both their fighters and bodies in top flight condition.

Anya took a look at the ETA counter which displayed their remaining time until the unit rendezvous with Chimera.  With little else to do whilst the auto pilot controlled the fighter whilst in warp flight Anya began to write up her report on the findings of the scouting mission to send to the Captain upon return.  She couldn't help the feeling that something wasn't quite right about this mission that it was something more than a simple Romulan ambush.
