[USS Chimera] SD 240902.01 [SB Unity] Duty Log Part 1, Amb. Alecto Ayanami, EA Ambassador

Alecto stepped into the dim lighting of the bar allowing her clothes to
change colour from the brilliant white she had worn to the meeting to
jet black which made her feel more at ease in amongst the shadows
of the bar.  Somehow it also seemed more fitting to the smoky jazzy
that was filtered through the bar's sound system.

"So I see AdCam is still in fashion then…hard to believe that it was
originally created for the military and ended up amusing the nobles
who could display their mood swings on the outside without the aid
of bloodstains.  So what'll it be then Ambassador?"  Came the middle
aged masculine voice from the shadows behind the bar.

"The usual." Alecto replied as she perched upon one of the modernist
stools at the bar.  "Chilled vodka and information."

"Anything to eat?" He said indicating the menu in front of her as he
reached into a freezer cabinet and withdrew a bottle of vodka.  "The
Vodka should be no problem as we keep a large stock of it but information
is becoming hard to get.  With all the restricted areas on the station it
leaves large gaps in my awareness here and with Commodore Guzman
having cut all non-Starfleet shipping, information from the outside is
very limited.  Not to mention Starfleet doesn't always carry specialist
foods or drinks, I can name at least three dozen bars, restaurants and
shops apiece that are on the brink of folding and I don't think the rest
of them are far behind.  For any business to survive we need two
things…Supply and Demand.  We now have limited supplies and no
customers not to mention that the Commodore hasn't dropped the
rates on any of these leased holdings.  Perhaps something an attractive
Ambassador could bring up with him?" The last bit was asked hopefully
as he placed her drink in front of her.

"The truffle salad with the balsamic dressing.  You do realize that by
asking me to bring it up with Commodore Guzman you are probably
signing your own bar's death warrant.  Still I'll try and have a word
with him soon.  He ignores small problems long enough they'll turn
into big ones.  I do have one piece of information that you won't
have received yet though.  Less than twenty minutes ago, the
Task Force Intelligence Advisor, Commander Lernen Harbright was
assassinated."  Alecto said bluntly.

"Should I be expecting the arrival of an armed Security Unit,
Ambassador?"  The Barman asked hesitantly.

"I didn't kill the old man and there are a half a dozen witnesses
who can attest to that.  Given the undying affection that Task
Force Command has for both the Erassian Alliance in general and
Hybrids in particular I'd give it one in three odds they won't send
the troops out after me.  Oddly considering the fact it was one of
the Klingon Envoy's aides that did it I think they'll get away with a
few minor interviews.  So tell me what information do you have
concerning the Klingons because I know you guys would have
been poking around in that particular hornet's nest."  Alecto
fixed him with a stare.

"We have a couple of ships in the region monitoring Romulan
movements around an old abandoned Klingon mining complex
meaning some form of collaboration between the two empires
though the extent of this relationship is unclear.  Our information
about the Romulan facilities on the surface is sparse but as we
haven't seen any ore shipments going out I think we can safely
rule out mining facilities.  My guess would be a research
facility." He said.

"Why a research facility there inside Klingon territory?"  Alecto asked.

"Same reason the Romulans set up a Thelaron Research Station
within neutral space on the borders of Federation Space.  The
research itself is dangerous or distasteful and it's likely that the
Klingons probably aren't in command of all of the facts.  I might
even wager that keeping the research a secret from the Klingons
might be a lower priority than keeping it secret from their own
people.  Coincidentally there was a recent unlisted departure of
a Task Force runabout heading in the general direction of Klingon
space, initial tracking revealed it's destination to be Khitomer but
after that the trackers lost them."  The barman abruptly changed
from the low quiet voice he had been speaking in to a louder and
friendlier tone.  "Good Afternoon Ensign, not often we see uniformed
officers in here.  Care for a drink?  First one's on the house if you tell
your friends about us."
