Tablet in hand Jade walked into the flight deck looking around being
this was her first time being on a flight deck a deck hand walked up,
"can I help you?" The deck hand asked.
"Yes I'm hereto see MCaptain Xerxes." Jade said hoping that she wasn't
busy knowing that she didn't even bother to send a message to her
asking if
she was busy or not.
"Let me take you to her office." The deck hand said turning and
leading a winding path through the rows of fighters and work benches
to the back of the flight deck where the offices were. The deck hand
walked up to the door and punched the chime and waited for the MCapt
to answer the chime.
"Enter" Anya called without moving her eye's from the report she was
reading on the progress that her little research team was making on
their current two projects. Upon finishing the report Anya looked up
and saw it wasn't one of her pilots as expected but instead another
one of Chimera's department heads. "Leftenant Reese, please come in
and take a seat. Help yourself to the replicator if you want anything
but I'd advise sticking to coffee, it seems to be the only thing that
can be classed as fit for consumption. I'm guessing that this isn't a
social call, so tell me what brings you down to the lower decks?"
Walking into the office Jade had three cups of coffee before even
coming down to see the Captain she took a seat, "well I wanted your
opinion on a side project that I've been working on with my Operations
team." Jade said.
"Well I'm always open to new ideas so I've no objections to hearing your
idea out. As for the advantages of side projects if you look out that
window those AX-02 Lancers started out life as little more than a hobby
project. So by all means fire away with your idea." Anya responded with
a smile. It was good that a new generation of Starfleet Officers were
willing to spend time pushing the boundaries that bit further like Kirk
and Picard before them. One of the biggest criticisms that the Erassian
Alliance made of the Federation was that they were always too fond of
the status quo.
Jade nodded, "will when I got aboard USS Chimera B the Captain had me
work on breaking the communication jamming field, but when we were
about to try out my idea was when we had to abandon ship." Jade said
handing over the tablet with all the ideas with the cons and negatives
on it.
Anya let out a small laugh "And you made sure to take your project off
the ship with you on a padd. I did much the same with my beloved Lancers
but as I recall I forced the padd into the then Commander Cropa's hands
and told him to make sure it got into the correct hands. So here lies
the jammer breaker I guess." She said as she looked at the padd.
"On the tablet is two ideas one of them will require either a fighter
or some sort of shuttle to make it work. Which means either we choose
someone who knows how to work the equipment and pilot the craft, but I
would prefer someone who has combat pilot training then someone who
wouldn't." Jade said not wanting to mention that she wasn't a big fan
of risking someone life to get this done until she hears what she has
to say.
"Looking at this I'd rule out shuttles immediately. They don't have
the power capacity to power the jammer breaker and they'd die in minutes
in a battle. My AX-02 Lancers I'd rule out as well. The equipment
would be too heavy and bulky. The jammer breaker would also drain too
much power not to mention the disadvantage of drawing every missile
lock in the sector. The same problems occur with the Z-105 Shadows, the
power drain would badly affect their cloaks and the signals would call
every missile in range. The only remotely viable option is the
I-210 Amaterasu, call sign Sun God. That's our Scout slash AWACS craft.
Though I do have reservations about using the Amaterasu though."
Jade nodded agreeing that a shuttle was big and clumsy and made a big
target for anyone shooting at us. Jade stood up and walked to the
window that she had that looked over the flight bay and took a look at
the Amaterasu, "those could work we would have to modify them a little
to have them do what we need them to do." Jade said.
Anya replied "The I-210 Amaterasu is the most expensive and most
irreplaceable craft in my department for a start. That's not to mention
that as what is essentially a Command and Control craft for both my
Lancer Squadron and Ghost Flight the idea of allowing it to attract
enemy attention more than it already does goes against the grain.
However I will consider the option under two conditions. One - If the
system is not used as a standard deployment but only as an Ace in The Hole
deployable only in major battles. Two - The final say in whether the
jammer breaker is installed on Sun God is bestowed upon it's Pilot and EWO
First Leftenants Narvel Tenoro and F'Rel."
"Understood." Jade said walking back to take a seat, "to be honest I
was hoping that you would have said no making my choice the other idea
I had." Jade said, "well I'll let you get back to work and I'll need
some time to work on the jamming program right now it's just been a
very rough idea now with a base of operations for this idea I can now
start fine tuning it." Jade said with a smile.
As her guest got up to leave Anya said "I don't need to remind you
Leftenant that an Officer has to walk the tightrope between the
three loyalties. Loyalty to obey your superiors, loyalty to protect
your comrades and subordinates and loyalty to completing the mission.
Looking to protect people is fine but people will die, its unavoidable.
Sooner or later you will have blood on your hands all you can do is
try and protect them as best you can but you can't insulate them from
the harsh realities of the world. If you can't accept that then you're
in the long line of work. Don't take this as a criticism but do accept
it as wisdom from someone who already has quite a bit of blood on
her hands."
