[Port Boarding Ramp - Deck 10 - USS Chimera NCC 96899-C]

Captain Cropa Rojac watched with his hands held tight behind his back as the figure stepped up to the security checkpoint at the entrance to the Chimera. He was a stocky man, with broad shoulders and a weightlifter's physique. He had close cropped brown hair in the military style, was clean-shaven, and held himself as if he was chiseled from stone. His uniform was neatly pressed, and looked to be as starched as his statuesque appearance. He had the typical Erassian air of arrogance about him, the same air common to a lot of Starfleet Marines, but Walters' file backed his attitude up.

As the man passed through the checkpoint and received an all clear from the officer on duty, the Captain stepped forward to greet his new partner. "Major Walters, welcome aboard the USS Chimera."

"Happy to be here Captain, definitely much happier than I was to be in the last few places I've been.  For a Starfleet ship the Chimera-C is quite well equipped and definitely a lot better designed than her predecessor, it should be quite interesting to work aboard her.  Likewise I look forward to working with you Captain Rojac, after the battle of Charos VI General Ivanov described you as one of the three people in Starfleet worth a damn at commanding a ship.  High praise coming from him."  Scott replied as he held out his hand to shake.

"That means a lot coming from the General." Rojac said. "He is a hard man to impress. Were you at Charos VI, Major?"

Scott hesitated a moment before answering. "At...may not be the the exact term..."

"On or under would be more suited" Said a loud voice slightly down the boarding ramp.  Both men turned to see Alecto walking towards them.  "Captain Rojac I've come to inform you and I suppose the new XO about a change in the Fighter Ops Department that the Brass from both our superiors are forcing through.  You're losing the flight of Z-105 Shadows and getting them replaced by an Erassian squadron of M-35A's.  The upside is a huge increase in firepower, the downside is you lose a measure of stealth and Commodore Guzman will likely blow a fuse."  Alecto said largely ignoring Major Walters.

Rojac nodded. "My yeoman informed me of the change but I appreciate the personal visit, Ambassador. Has Major 'Stormchild' been informed?" He asked. "She can get cranky when changes are made to her department without notification." The Captain was thankful she wasn't aboard when the technician caused one of her new missiles to have a warpcore breach in main engineering.

"By none other than Admiral Janeway herself, two days ago at Joint Defense Command Headquarters.  She also told her the reason for the transfer of an Erassian Squadron aboard and I have a feeling it's something more than a simple goodwill gesture.  Naturally to ensure the smooth operation of an Erassian Squadron aboard Chimera Anya's reserve Erassian rank was stepped up to Major meaning that the new XO will have no grounds to countermand her orders...is that clear Major Walters?"  Alecto said.

"Perfectly Ambassador.  I have been made well aware of what little value I hold for the Alliance, mostly I'll assuming calculated by Colonel Westbridge."  Scott replied bitterly.

"Just be glad you're worth enough to get a second chance...and you're wrong Colonel Westbridge didn't want to ruin your career, she wanted you imprisoned.  Only General Ivanov's mediation saved you that fate.  Show your gratitude and perform well for our valued allies."  Alecto said icily.  Turning to Rojac she said.  "I'd best let you get on with your preparations then Captain.  The best of luck to you and your crew on your mission."  With that she turned and descended the ramp.

"Being hard to impress might
be a Hybrid trait."  Scott said  deep in his own thoughts.

"Possibly, but it's not an exclusive trait, Major." Rojac said, turning his gaze away from the shapely figure of the retreating ambassador. "But she did just increase your workload. I'll need you to coordinate the transfer of the fighters aboard, and to personally oversee the assignment of their quarters. Then you need to assist Mr. Kroitzer in the installation of the stealth shielding."

"Well it's better to dive straight in I suppose.  If I sink and drown I get a decent christian burial but if I float I'll get burned alive, I'd guess at those lighting the match but these days there's rather a few people queuing up.  Don't worry Captain I'll get it done."  Scott replied.

"Thank you, Major." Rojac nodded. "I now have a strategy meeting with Captain Chisulo. Good luck, Major Walters."

"Thank you Captain"  {I'll probably need it.}  Scott thought to himself after all as far as he knew nobody had actually announced his arrival and investiture as XO aboard Chimera.  Things were going to be unpredictable to say the least...
