[USS Chimera] SD240908.01 Joint Duty Log - Cmdr/MCapt CMO/COps Rangi Summers and Jade Reese - "Treating a Headache"

[Infirmary, SB UNITY]

Walking into sickbay on UNITY Jade needed was going to have
a post-op appointment to make sure all the radiation was
gone she felt fine expect for every once and awhile she
would get head splitting headaches. While she was waiting in
the waiting room she could feel one coming on deciding that
she needed to see a doctor now before it became worse she
stood up and walked up to the admitting window, "excuse I
really need to see a doctor." Jade said rubbing her temples
trying to slow down the headache.

The nurse eyed her specutively. It had been a long shift for
her and she was rather tired of patients demanding to be
seen immediately.
"If you take your place the doctor will see you as soon as
he's free." she replied sounding rather annoyed.

"Ma'am I'm not trying to be a pain but it feels like my head
is going to split into two." Jade said trying to remain calm
while her head continued to pound. "I really need to see a
doctor because I can barely concentrate to stay standing."
Jade said faintly while she put her hand out to balance
herself on the desk.

The nurse had heard the excuse before and was not inclined
to believe it, particularly as her own head was beginning to
ache, her shift had officially ended eight minutes ago and
there was no sign of her relief and all she wanted to do was
return to her room and sleep for a week.
She frowned at Jade and was about to repeat her request when
from the corner of her eye she saw another newcomer and
after giving her a quick glance, looked back at the patient
and said rather more loudly than necessary:
" Ofcourse. I'll find you a doctor immediately. "

She stepped from behind the desk which put her almost face
to face with the CMO and feigning surprise she said: " Oh.
Commander Summers!"

Rangi had not expected to be in the infirmary so long but
she had no hesitation in asking, for the Marine Captain
looked far from well.

" Umm..yes, the patient needs to see a doctor and I'm
just..."

" I can see her." Rangi interrupted and stepping towards
Jade said: " Follow me please." She glanced back over her
shoulder. " Which exam room is free?" she asked the nurse
and having been given a reply  turned to Jade and said:
" Its just along here."

"Thank you doctor." Jade said trying to give her smile but
even that slight motion made her headache worse Jade also
had her hand out along the wall just incase she felt faint
again. This is the worse she's felt even when she had that
rash entering the exam room Jade slid up onto the biobed
hoping that they could figure out what's going on.

They entered an examination room and Rangi asked Jade to lay
down on the biobed though she needed a steadying hand to do
so.
The screen above the bed activated immediately but Rangi
took little notice, instead taking a padd, soon finding and
opening Jades medical history.
" So whats the problem exactly?" she asked as she accessed
details

Wincing a little as she laid her head down on the biobed
Jade moved her head so she look at the doctor, "while on the
last mission my body reacted badly to the radiation and the
medical staff on the Chimera was able to treat it." Jade

said taking a minute to allow her headache to subside a

little, "but once we got back to UNITY I've been having
really bad headaches where I haven't been able to do
anything." Jade said looking at the doctor.

"  I see....and you have one now?"

Rangi glanced up at the screen, back to Jade and then back
to the padd in her hands.
The history showed no illness or injury of anykind until the
recent radiation episode.

"Yes and it subsides and then comes back even stronger."
Jade said raising her hands to rub her temples to see if
that'll relieve some of the pain while the doctor does her
examination.

" Can you describe it to me? Is it a dull ache?...a
stabbing pain?"

"I can feel the pain moving from the back of my head to the
front and it's like someone is constantly pounding on my
head." Jade said continuing to rub her temples.

" I can give you something for that in a moment. " Rangi
said. " I just need to do a couple of scans first. Try to
relax, it wont take long."

The medtricorder gave instant readings but they didnt make
sense.

" Ok. " Rangi said. " I need to take a blood sample."

The med trolley, fully equipped, stood near the end of the
biobed. Rangi selected the tool she needed and pressed it
against Jades arm, drawing off a few millilitres of blood.
She laid it back on the tray and lifted a hypo filled with a
painkiller and administered the dose.
" There, that will help. " she said.

"Thank you." Jade said glad that she might be feeling some
relief from the pain. She then waited to see what else the
doctor had to say hoping that the blood samples would tell
them what's going on.

Rangi had moved to the small work station at the far side of
the room and began testing the sample but what she saw made
her pause thoughtfully. After a few seconds she returned to
Jades side.

" I'm afraid I need a little more time. " she said. " But
theres a possibility that you wont be leaving
with Chimera."

Jade just nodded she would've preferred to join the Chimera
on the new mission but with these headaches she would be
more of a liability then being helpful. "I can live with
that." Jade said giving a weak smile, "would I need to stay
in sickbay?" Jade asked never enjoying spending a lot of
time in sickbay.

" For the time being yes...until we can get the headaches
under control. Don't worry.." she added with an
understanding smile. " It will only be for a day or so and
you needed be confined to bed, you can use the day rooms."

Nodding Jade was okay with spending a day or two in the infirmary to make sure these headaches are not so bad. "Thank you doctor for seeing me." Jade said glad that the pain killers are working and that she could finally get some rest.
