[USS Chimera] SD 240912.18 || JL || MCapt Reese (COps) & Lt Dior (Conn) ||

[Room 301-B - the Grand Aenar Hotel - Andoria]

Lieutenant Rayna Dior dropped her duffel top the soft mattress of one of the double beds in her assigned quarters. She pulled out the file off clothes, smoothed out the wrinkles on the top garment, and carried them over to the chest of drawers for proper stowage. She was glad to be on Andoria and away from the stress of the conn station for a while. The flying she had been ordered to do during Operation Magna was stressful, to say the least. She has brushed with death quite a few times, and didn't mind leaning back and living for a while - even if that involved listenening to a few drab lectures.

Rayna was hanging up her parka in the closet when she heard the soft hiss of her door opening. Her room mate must have arrived.

"Hey, Captain." Rayna called over her shoulder.

"Lt." Jade said smiling to the Lieutenant glad that she was roomed with someone she knew noticing that she had the bed near the window Jade set her bag on the bed near the door. With that done she slipped her coat off and also laid it down on the bed, "so what conference are you here to attend?" Jade asked as she started unpacking.

"Ah!" She dropped a few files onto the bed an dug through them, pulling out one of particular interest and handing it to the marine captain. "A new ship class came out this year - the vesta class - that it outfitted with a slipstream warp drive."

Taking the PADD she skimmed through it, "it's a beautiful ship." Jade said she had read about slipstream but didn't know a whole lot about it. Expect for the crew of Voyager used it and it helped cut their travel time down but at that time it was still very experimental and dangerous.

"Where the century lass was a weapons development platform before Captain Rojac got a hold of it, the vesta class was designed as a test-bed for experimental propulsion technologies. As far as helm officers think, she's the holy grail." Dior allowed herself a smirk a she glance at the image of the sleek starfleet vessel on the padd.

"How long do you think it'll take SF to get the slipstream out of the experimental stage?" Jade asked thinking that it would be a useful technology for exploration and for defending the borders of the Federation.

"Well," Rayna began, taking a seat on the bed and gazing into the padd, "if the tests on the Vesta continue to go as well as they are going, they should have all testing done by this time next year." She looked up to the superior officer in the room. "It's really quite genius how they do it. Instead of projecting a warp bubble around the ship, they elongate it and project a tube-like structure in-front of the ship through the deflector dish. It's like an artificial slipstream tunnel." She sighed and leaned back into the pillows on the headboard. "The biggest problem so far is power consumption. It eats a lot of power. If we had a singularity drive similar to the Romulans it might be easier to use. But it would also be considerably more dangerous."

Jade nodded remembering reading about the singularity drive they were impressive by the amount of power then can have running through it but it did have it's issues. Jade then stood up, "care to join me for a drink down in the bar?" Jade asked seeing that they should relax a bit.

"That sounds great, Captain." Rayna stood and tossed the padd atop her duffel bag. She pulled down on her jacket, straightening it out, and gestured toward the door. "Shall we?"

The Marine Captain nodded, and the two women headed down to the bar.
