It had been a gamble coming here but when he looked at his options it
was probably the best chance he had. Colonel Nikolai Ivanov stood
outside the door of his ostensible father's office. He took in the
rich wooden panelling and plush carpeting of his surrounds of the
Second Fleet's Headquarters on Erass Prime. His thoughts drifted back
to visiting this office as a child coming to see his father then too
but that was a different time and for all the similarities it was a
different place too, another universe in fact. His thoughts were
interrupted by the aide a male Captain who seemed familiar too
announcing he could go in. "The General will see you now Colonel."

Nikolai entered into the spacious office and was surprised there was
only two people there was just two people there. He had expected at
least two Special Forces guards there but there was only his 'father'
General Viktor Ivanov and an attractive looking woman who it took him
a moment to recognise her as Ambassador Alecto Ayanami. Two Hybrid
assassins in the room...no wonder there wasn't a need for guards.
"Colonel Nikolai Ivanov, Commanding Officer of the EAS Samson
reporting General." Nikolai said formally.

"The answer is no Colonel." Viktor said bluntly whilst Alecto leaned
back serenely on the wall behind Viktor.

"General?" Nikolai replied not really believing what had just been
said to him. Had his hopes of having his father to help him retain
his ship been foreseen and countered before he had even to say a word
in his own defence?

"You came here today looking to persuade me to let you keep your ship
probably through the bond of me supposedly being your father. The
sensors in the hallway definitely confirm your parentage but don't
expect any special treatment from me, as for why you came to me.
'Will he take my ship away from me?' was written all over your face
from the moment you set foot in this building. The answer is no
Colonel, I'm not going to take your ship away. Granted I'd probably
be more comfortable with someone I'm more familiar with taking control
of the most powerful ship in the galaxy possibly excepting the Borg
and Karaf, but my familiar wouldn't know the ship or it's capabilities
which could prove fatal or worse allow the ship to fall into enemy
hands." Viktor replied.

"That's a relief. Thank you General." Nikolai replied. "So what are
my orders General?"

"You and your ship will answer directly to myself, Prime Minister
Alexander and Premier Lephren in that order. That is your chain of
command. You will not be a part of the Second Fleet but a newly
created separate entity. Congratulations Colonel you are now the head
of the Special Investigations Unit. Ostensibly you are just another
intelligence based organisation weeding out enemy agents, seditionists
and other assort dirtbags but in reality I want you to be the front
line of Anti-Karaf and Anti-Legion aggression. I want you to weed out
all their little cells, fronts and units, you already have a ship with
stealth, weapons and defence capabilities far beyond their current
capabilities. The more we can avert their subversive and divisive
activities now the better we can defend when the Karaf finally make
their move. To that end I'm supplementing your crew with people I can
trust who in turn you can trust, unfortunately for Major Holtzman this
means a demotion from XO to 2XO but he will remain under your command.
Does this meet your approval Colonel?" Viktor asked.

"Yes General." Nikolai answered.

"Good." Was Viktor's simple response.
