Start of Part 2
----------------------
Phil Yelland and Anita Morris materialised only a few yards
away from the scene of utter chaos that met their eyes.
They were prepared to treat a patient with the mysterious
illness and had come armed with Med cases and testing
equipment and were totally unprepared for the scenario in
which they found themselves.
There were two figures dressed in conventional safety gear,
a small group of civilians and a man with a gaping wound
in his chest who was surely dead.
One of the figures was yelling at the group to stay back
whilst the other, distracted by their arrival aimed a rifle
at them ready to fire.
Phil shouted " Medics, Medics" and the rifle swung back
towards the crowd.
One of them grabbed Phil's arm, rifle fire exploded in a
brilliant flash and Anita, half turned though keeping her
eyes on the group and moved towards the shelter of the
building backing up to the wall.
As she made to press her commbadge, she saw a second man hit
and Phil fall to the ground, fighting a civilian who was the
stronger.
But her call was never made for a bloodied hand though thin
and bony, gripped itself onto her shoulder and turning her
head, eyes wide in fear, Anita came faced a wild eyed
creature cut and bleeding by the broken glass surrounding
her head and shoulders.
"Switching to Auto mode!" Kilbain shouted and shot the
civilian attacking the male medic in the head with a quick burst on
auto fire turning what had been a human head into a unrecognisable
collection of blood, skull fragments and brain matter. He trained his
rifle on his next target and was about to squeeze the trigger when he
felt a blindingly sharp pain in his chest. He looked down and saw
what appeared to be a narrow black icicle made of black
glistening metal. The glistening made it look like it was moving...no wait it
was moving, it was a number of black metal like wires moving cohesively.
The wires were pulled back through his chest and Kilbain
dropped to the ground. He saw where the wires were originating from, it
was the first man he had shot still with the hole in his chest.
The man grabbed him by the rim of his helmet and lifted him off the
ground with almost superhuman strength and dangled him in mid-air.
Kilbain looked at the man's arms and saw black lines snaking along
towards him underneath the man's skin. Panting out of a mixture of
adrenaline and fear Kilbain scrabbled for his side arm.
Grasping the reassuring weight of the .50 cal Desert Eagle XV, Kilbain
brought the pistol up underneath the man's chin and pulled the trigger
blowing away half the man's face. Still though the man didn't drop
him and the black lines raced towards him. Kilbain managed a scream
before his life was ended as the black lines erupted out of the man's
skin as wires and piercing through Kilbain's eyes into his brain.
Kilbain's arms dropped and he was released dropping like a marionette
with its strings cut.
Phil Yelland had fallen to his knees clutching his hands to
his head. His vision was almost blanked out by dark red,
almost black wire like strands. He tried at first to brush
them away which was an impossibility.
He felt pain such as he had never experienced before and the
total fear that accompanied it and then... there was
nothing.
Anita Morriss' screams were short lived.
She had turned to face the bloodied woman who held her in a
grip that defied her expected capabilities.
As she tried to push Ann away, the dark lines on the woman's
arms had broken through the skin and seemed to grow fast,
aiming at Anita before she had time to realise what was
happening.
They made contact with her face in an instant of extreme
heat like white-hot needles.
Others, still erupting from Ann's chest, targeted Anita's
body and pierced through her biosuit as though it was tissue
paper. She didn't survive long.
Colbeck kept firing at the enemy until the magazine in his
AR30-USG Assault Rifle was empty. Without time to load a fresh
magazine he pulled his .50 cal Desert Eagle XV side-arm and fired until
the nine 50 cal rounds were spent. One of the two civilian females
sprang at him and black shiny wires erupted from under her skin and
pierced into Colbeck's right shoulder paralysing his right arm. He
roared with pain as the wires buried into him snaking their way in
towards his vital organs. Knowing his death or worse was imminent,
using his left hand he grabbed a plasma grenade out a utility pouch, pulled
the pin out with his thumb, pressed and held the trigger. White
light filled the world...
