The Romulan's had pulled back and Athena had a chance to leave the Admiral's bridge.  Back in Viktor's quarters she fell into a chair and sat there more or less decompressing.  {What was I thinking .... when Cropa and Shane find out where she's been during the whole battle..... well those will be minutes... perhaps hours of my life that I won't get back.}  "Don't borrow trouble before it crosses your door step," Athena lectured herself.  She released her hair form the confines of the ponytail holder and let it fall around her shoulders.  She rubbed her temples, rolled her neck and then her shoulders.  Standing up she moved closer to the bed and took off the pants she was wearing.  {I'll never get used to these things} she thought as she shook the pants before throwing them to a corner.  Athena moved into the bathroom and washed her face wincing slightly as her arm brushed her side.  She lifted up the right side of the shirt and let it fall from her fingers as soon as she saw the bruising.

Viktor finally managed to get away from reading the initial damage reports and initial communications.  If he could grab one or two hours of sleep before the next lot he could live with that quite happily.  The down side was of course when he went back he would have to make a start on writing the notifications to the next of kin of those who had not survived the battle.  The guilt would come later, for the moment it was simply enough to be alive.  He walked into his quarters and winced slightly at the sight of the uniform trousers thrown into the corner and the shirt and jacket lying on the floor.  He had already lectured Athena on that once this trip and he wasn't particularly in the mood to do so again so this time he'd let it pass she was probably still shaken over what had happened to Chimera.  And then something else caught his eye..."Here let me look at that for you."

"It will..," She brushed his fingers away, "be all..."  She winced as he caught a particularly sensitive spot.  "Viktor," she started sternly, "stop it," she finished as she slapped at his fingers.  "It will be alright," she turned and met his gaze.

"Yeah and that's what Starfleet's policy towards the Romulans has been for the past thirty years.  I'd say today has been a particularly good example of how well that policy has worked so sit down on the bed and let me at least scan to make sure everything with your ribs is as you say 'going to be alright'.  The alternative to obedience is tickling...your choice."  Viktor stood clear of the bathroom door and held up an arm indicating the way to the bed.

She walked through the door, but went to pick up the uniform.  "Just let me take care of this," she said.  She wasn't as quick as she normally might have been but didn't show any outward signs of discomfort.

"Fair enough."  Viktor followed her out the door and stooped to pick up a medkit box from under his bed before sitting down on the bed.  He removed a scanner and a few items from the kit whilst waiting for her to sit down.  "So other than sore how are you feeling?  And before you automatically reply fine remember I too know it's been a long day and am fully aware of the cost."

She finished hanging up the uniform; turning around with fine practically on her lips; she stopped and hesitating at his last words.  "Tired and....," She took a few steps and then crawled up toward the middle of the bed, "a bit over loaded."  She looked him over and stated, "You must be tired as well.  And should be resting instead of fussing over me," she finished pinning him with an annoyed glare.

Viktor gave a tired smile "I was thinking of resting.  I was thinking that if I moved about in my sleep and bumped your ribs your yelling would wake me up...besides I don't mind fussing over you its pretty much the highlight of my day." He said as he stared at the readouts from the scanner.  "Okay no internal damage, no broken or fractured ribs just badly bruised."

Her look may have said, "told you so," but she refrained from saying it aloud.

Viktor finished raking in the medkit and pulled out a tube of cream.  "Put this on it should relieve the swelling and numb the area as well as speed its healing.  Whilst you're applying that I think there's something else in here which may help you feel a bit better."  He went back to looking in the kit.

With a sigh she began to apply the cream knowing that the sooner she did the sooner they both could rest.  "Don't you think this will be enough?"

"From your current standpoint yes from mine...well I'm not sure how to complete that sentence."  Viktor fished a small red box out of the medkit.  "This War isn't going to go away and it will get worse.  Many people will die on both sides before this is over and war being the unpredictable little madam she is may decide to call my number in at any time.  I don't know if after I leave here if I will live to see you again and before I go I want to ask what may come as an odd thing.  I know we haven't been together long and when we have it's been mostly turbulent but we have a good time even then.  You are unlike anyone else I've ever met and with you around me the world is a far brighter place."

Viktor slipped off the bed and got down on one knee opening the box to display the content "You are the sun in my sky and the centre of my universe.  Athena will you marry me?"

Athena dropped the tube on the bed instead of handing it back to Viktor.  She slide off the edge of the bed and into his lap and whispered, "Yes," against his lips.

Viktor kissed her happily taking care not to hurt her bruised ribs.  He took the ring from the box and lifted her left hand up so he could put the ring on the correct finger.

Her eyes were filled with happy surprised tears as Viktor placed the Sapphire engagement ring on the finger of her shaking hand.

Viktor smiled at her "I cant promise that we'll be able to get to the next one any time soon, it could be months it could be years but for now let's just be happy."

She nodded and kissed him.
