Nanee rounded the corner into the CMO's Office. She had
gotten a message that he wanted to see her. Of course that
threw Nanee into a nervous wreck. She never liked
confrontation, so naturally she wasn't exactly a 'people'
person; which was funny for a doctor with her credentials.
Nanee just was too shy most of the time and never really
spontaneous.

Nanee set the chime on the door to go off. She heard a
voice that said something like come in, so she walked in.

"You wanted to see me, sir" Nanee put her hands behind
her back and rested them in the small of her back so she
wouldn't be tempted to fidget with her fingers.

Scott indicated the chair opposite his own, getting to his
feet as Nanee walked in.

"Take a seat." he said. " I'm going to get a coffee... Would
you like one?" He moved towards the replicator, glancing
back as he spoke.

"Yes, I think I will. Thank you," she replied timidly.

Scott ordered the drinks and whistled a few tunelss segments
of an unrecognisable tune beneath his breath as he waited
for them to materialize. Once they did, he returned to Nanee
and placed the mug down on the desk.

" There you go," he said and carrying his own mug, he moved
to his place, took a sip from the mug, set it down then sat
on his chair and scooted it forward.
"So..." he said giving Nanee a friendly smile. " Any
problems?"

"Not as of yet, sir. There really isn't much to report,"
Nanee smiled back. She felt awkward so she looked back up to
make eye contact so the atmosphere wouldn't feel so eery.

" Good. " Scott said. " That's the way we like it." He took
a drink from the mug.
"It's too much to hope that it'll stay that way though." he
added. "Tell me how you're settling in."

"I think I've adjusted well for the most part, sir," Nanee
thought that she needed to say something to create more
conversation. She didn't want to seem like a closet case to
her boss. "I'm not much part of the social scene".

"It's early days." Scott replied and no one's going to have
much social life for a while."
He smiled to her again, thinking that she seemed scared of
him somehow.
"I'm new to this job too." he said in an effort to put her
more at ease. "But I'm taking the same line as the previous
CMOs and asking that if anyone in the team has any concerns,
no matter how small and insignificant they might seem, I'm
always here... generally " he ended.

"Why thank you, sir. I'll keep that in mind," Nanee smiled
back. It was nice to know that there was one person in this
Sickbay that wasn't so standoffish. Nanee felt a little bit
more comfortable already.

"Good." Scott nodded, pleased that Nanee seemed more at
ease. " I have a task for you." he said lifting a padd from
an assorted pile beside him. " Ahh..no, not that one..." he
ran his finger down the stack then selected another, checked
the heading and handed it to her." I'd like you to check out
the Biospectral Scanner for me. There shouldn't be a problem
but I notice it hasn't been done lately. If you can give it
the 'once over' please?"

Nanee took her new assignment and nodded to the CMO, "Will
do. Not a problem, sir". Nanee stood to leave.

Scott got to his feet too. "Thanks.." he said "..just lay
the report on here when you have it." He indicated the mini
towers of padds as he spoke. As she exited the room, Scott
sat down again and began to make headway into his work.
